I'm not ashamed to say I love her, and I'm not the only one. But bring on the snark. We can take it.
Babsonite
I love her. I don't get the Meh nickname.
JeS 47
Read through the old thread. People started calling her "Meh" because they thought she was boring. Those of us who love her use it because it's easier to type than Meredith.
ClaireV

I don't get the Meh nickname.
It comes from the premiere - people were "meh" about her, and it just stuck.

Aah! JeS 47, you're too quick for me. (Comes from being a beginner, I guess - slow poster.)
rekkidbraka
I heart Meh. But I heart DrunkMeh even more. In fact, I kind of wish DrunkMeh had her *own* thread. ;-)
tvjunkie2008
I love Meh when she's drunk. It's so hilarious.
bria

I heart Meh. But I heart DrunkMeh even more.
I'm beginning to question whether there really is such a being as non-drunk Meh. Inebriation is fast becoming her status quo.
Beffers
Wanna give a big shout out to all my fellow passengers on the Meh love train. God that sounded lame, even for me.

Its only been up and running an hour or so but is anyone else exhausted yet, from bouncing around a bazillion different topics/threads ? Damm, I need a nap....or a mojito to wake me up. Is the bar tender here yet ? I hear the tips are better in the Spoiler thread.
tvjunkie2008
But she's so much funnier when she's drunk. Though she can pull off the drama too. When Ellis was being admitted, Meh looked so vulnerable and like a scared little kid.
LingPetunia
Beffers, can you reserve me a window seat please? I am a woman and I love Meredith because she says things we are too ashamed to say ourselves. I love Meredith because she has no sense of pride anymore and speaks her mind. I do, however, love Inebriated Meredith slightly more than sober Meredith, and blonde more than brunette.
tvjunkie2008
I'm kind of liking the brunette look, though.
smoothcriminal
I think I was the first on to admit I love Meredith haha, I can handle the snark, I just find her character to be very likeable.

I co-sign for the love of drunk Meh, as I am a total narcissist too when I drink.
rekkidbraka
I nominate Ling as tonight's first-shift LoveTrain barback for upping DrunkMeh to "Inebriated Meredith." Hee.

Also with her on the blonde over brunette thing. Dye is your friend, Meh. Dye is your friend.
Beffers
On the whole blonde vs brown thing have ya noticed how blonde she is in the promo previews for upcoming ep(s) ? It's like they intentionally made her all brown and dowdy in Bring the Pain so that in next week ep she can go out and get one of those empowered I-just-got-dumped-but-I-am-gonna-go-out-and-get-me-a-fabulous-makeover-so-I-don't-look-like-I-got-dumped Makeovers that also have the added benefit of making the Dumper realise what a babe the chick he just dumped is. After 2 weeks of painfully honest, pitiful Meh..I'm all ready to see her bounce back and at least try to stick it to McD and make him realise what a stupid decison he made...in a very subtle female mind game kind of a way..that Addison pulls all the time but Meh never does..so we cut her some slack when she does it.

Does this make any sense whatsover ? My brains are fried from keeping up with all these topics.

I like McDrunky, personally. It sounds hilarious and just so cute at the same time.

I have to join the Meh love train, definitely. She's just a regular human being, trying to deal with a new job, a new boyfriend, a new boyfriend who works with her, a new boyfriend who works with her with a wife, a new boyfriend who works with her with a wife who works with her and a sick mother. I'd be hitting the bottle too. She deals with it pretty well, IMHO.
Joslynm
I heart DrunkMeh, especially b/c she seems to favor tequilla, a choice I totally support. Plus I think I love that she's not your typical plucky heroine. I just always feel like I want to give EP a hug.

Beffers, that would rawk, and I think highlights are a good start. I would love to see her really pulled together and him surprised that she's not devastated.

I believe there has been one episode where I liked Meh. I don't remember the episode title, but I do know it was 2x03. The rest of the time I'm either impartial to her or very, very annoyed. Sorry to burst your bubble and all, but there's something about the character that just doesn't appeal to me.
Sophia Bee
Okay, so most of the time I hate Meredith. She's whiney and annoying. Until she gets pissed off and chews out McDreamy. Then she's hilarious. And when she's drunk. I like her then too. The rest of the time she SUCKS.
whatthedeuce
Mostly she just gets on my nerves, but I don't hate the character. At least, not yet. Okay, so I already kinda do. I wish she'd stop moping over Derek because he really isn't even worth it. I would think I'd be amused by her when she's drunk, but I totally wasn't in the last episode. If anything, she was just more annoying than usual. However, I didn't hate her "pick me, love me" speech like some people did. It was kinda pathetic, but people get desperate sometimes, and I think that's understandable, esp. considering so many things in her life are going to shit.
jstar
Ech I hate Meredith. She's so neurotic and bitchy and self-centered and just....ugh.
CloudyGumdrops
How do I hate Meredith? Let me count the ways (but I don't feel like wasting the time).

I honestly don't know if it's the character or the actress that I don't like. EP annoyed me in Old School as well. When I saw previews for the show I thought I'd probably end up liking the character, but that didn't happen.
flux
I'm on the Meh Love train! Tequila for all!
Anki
I love Meredith; she's vulnerable and tough all at the same time, and she's funny.

I don't care how many posters come in here to tell us how horrible they think she is, they're not going to change my opinion of her.
whatthedeuce
I don't mean to change anyone's opinion of her because I can see why others would like her. I'm just saying that I don't particularly dig the character, but she's not the worst character in the world, by any means.
BostonsKrissy
She's still Meh, but I feel like with each episode she's growing on me.

Now, what I really want to know, is how she keeps her hair to keep intact like that. Does anybody know what i'm talking about? Its that strand of "bang" that is like superglued to her forehead. It never moves, even when she's walking.
LingPetunia
rekkidbraka, I would be honored to tend the bar on the Meredith love train. I will however be honoring Meredith's spirit and be drunk while I am working. Since you also like Meredith, I assume you share her taste for tequila. Margaritas on the rocks or frozen? (I prefer on the rocks.)
terryyaki
I say it before and i say it again and again,i love Meh,i even love her more when she's with her friend Jose Cuervo.I just hope she can find somebody else ,now that McDreamy is with McSatan...
minnie mouse
Eck...I hate Meh. It didn't turn into hate until her "choose me" speech to her confused and married lover. However, I do love tequila.
kieyra

I honestly don't know if it's the character or the actress that I don't like.
Why can't it be both? I'm increasingly thinking that's the case for me, anyway. Most of what grates on me about EP is physical, though, and you can't really hold that against an actress. But god, the annoying voiceovers in her annoying voice.

The show would be so much better if Izzie or Christina were the lead. So sick of every story being some labored metaphor for poor Meh's little life.
whatthedeuce
The annoying things about EP to me (her lisp mainly and her mousy appearance) are generally physical so I definitely don't hold that against her or the character of Meredith. I also know that she's the lead character so it makes sense for the show to revolve mainly around her, but I don't like them drawing a parallel between her being heartbroken by Derek's decision with a young woman that died after being impaled in a train wreck. It's not anywhere near the same thing and shouldn't be hinted at as if it were.

I think for me it is the actress. I just want her to open her eyes all the way and stop with the lispy voice. Also, she definitely needs to eat a burger. I don't mind the character of Meredith so much.
SoIAmGlad

Amen. I cannot stand Meh, but I love the rest of the cast, so I don't quite know what to think. Do the writers want us to hate her? When she admitted to Izzie that she was vapid and horrible, that didn't make it better. And really? You want us to see Meh as an aspiring surgeon who, when confronted with an emergency like a trainwreck forgets all about the injured? Why? Boy, you're working hard to maintain my level of hate for her.

Meh's near-total self-absorption makes sense insofar as her personal life is a huge plotline, but it makes trying to find a single redeeming thing about the character hard. I don't "love to hate" Meh. I'd love it if they showed us a more professional side of her, the ambitious surgeon side. Instead of the mooning drunk girl who's sad about her boyfriend. Meh just doesn't earn my respect the same way that George, Izzie and Xtina do--even the Fratboy gets a chance at redemption. But Meh's still stuck mooning around for McDreamy. Fine, she's vulnerable. Great. Can she also have a spine?

Hell, Addison's supposed to be the villian, but she gets way better scenes.
The Phantom Men
Give the lady a chance! She only got dumped outright in the last episode.

I'm kind of fascinated by the actress. Her face is attractive and just a bit odd. I'm not sure what it is about her, except maybe those giant eyebrows over beady little eyes. Imagine the children if she and Peter Gallagher were to mate.

Her picture on the cover of next week's TV guide - horrible!
alyrae
I'm coming around on Meh. She's like that friend who annoyingly always makes everything about her, but every once in a while you go out and have a ton of fun, and so you stay friends with her.
whatthedeuce
alyrae, not that it matters, but you sound like your describing my sister's friend, Cristina, who is nothing like Meredith.

I can't fault her for being heartbroken, but I really do wish they wouldn't make her seem so wrapped up in her own romantic woes when there are seriously injured/dying people all around her at work. Hell, I wish all the damn characters could try to separate their personal and professional lives, but I guess it wouldn't be TV if they did, now would it?
Gracelessly
Who calls her McDrunky? She's Meh.
flux
I think AB changed it for sake of clarity and the newbies. Oh well, at least we get our own Meh thread.
AB Chao
I changed it for clarity, but also because I hate that nickname, and I am mean.

And now, back to the topic at hand!
kieyra

Fine, she's vulnerable. Great. Can she also have a spine?
Amen. I think my annoyance at Meh turned to actual hatred when she totally caved and went back to chasing McD instead of holding fast to her earlier resolve.

Do people do that kind of thing in real life? All the damn time. It doesn't make it entertaining to watch on my television screen. I'm fine with a lead character being flawed, even heavily flawed, but it's nice if they have some compelling strengths, and so far Meh doesn't seem to have any...unless you count the to ability tolerate an insane amount of alcohol in a 90-pound body.
tvjunkie2008
The only thing that I really hate is she always seems to be hungover at work. It's unprofessional and annoying.
NafooPal
I'm with everyone else who loves Meredith, and I'm also with everyone who says that drunk Meredith is awesome.
bookgirl71
Well, I like her. And I don't want her to have an alcohol problem because she's already got a ton of problems.
whatthedeuce
I used to kinda like her last season when she was trying to avoid McD knowing that he was her boss and her career would be on the line. Then, she caved (not that I can totally blame her because he's hot even if he's an ass), and now she's all mopey over him. If they made her just stand up to him and mean it for more than 5 minutes, I might like her more.
tvjunkie2008
I'm with whatthedeuce on that one as well. She needs to get a spine.
simplyperson
I like both mcdrunky and meh.
One thing about her physical appearance that doesn't bother me is that she looks tired. Exhausted, like I'd imagine interns would look, working all those long hours.
So, I'm pretending it's a choice or a something--ya know, to make the character more real.
jstar

That's exactly how I feel. It doesn't help that she looks suspiciously like the Cheshire Cat to me...with her squinty eyes and big mouth....
whatthedeuce
I don't mind that she looks tired all the time what with all the work she does (well, when she's not mping over Derek) and all the current personal problems she's got going on, but I wish she'd cut her hair. It's just too long. I actually don't hate her new darker color, but the length is what needs to be attended to. Other than that, I don't mind EP's looks too much though she is pretty much a dead ringer for Renee Zellweger though that's not necessarily a bad thing, IMO.
Beffers
Huh, Meh has no spine ? I thought her make your mind up/you can't keep jerking both of us around here ultimatum to McD showed she had plenty spine. OK, her choice and tone of words coulda' been snarkier, but she still stood up, took a stand and made McD make a decison and that took plenty of balls and spine,IMHO.

I also think her decison to follow her heart and embark on a relationship with McD in the first place ( and just let the chips fall where they may careerwise ) showed she had balls a plenty...as did her telling Bailey to butt the hell outa her personal life. She may not have the in your face/don't mess with me spunkines that Xtina posseses in spades, but she DOES posess a certain kind of strength that's plenty there when she needs it, methinks. Right now she is finding it with the help of Senor Cuervo but I don't think it is ever very far away.

It bothers me when peeps dog on her voice/lisp too, thats nothing that EP can help. Its just how she is.
kieyra

I'm generally with you on the not dissing actors for physical traits they can't control, so I'll just say I wish the show's producers hadn't cast someone with an annoying voice if they planned to do all these pseudo-profound voiceovers, and I wish they hadn't cast someone who looks like she might break in a strong breeze if they planned to have her be a total boozehound.

ETA: I've just had an epiphany. I think part of the reason I hate Meh as much as I do is that everything about her takes me out of the show and my suspension of disbelief. And I really like the other characters. So I'm basically annoyed at the character for screwing up the show for me. With a better-written lead character, or possibly with a different actress in the role--I mean, she's no Mischa Barton or Kristin Kreuk but she obviously grates on a lot of people--I could very well be a total fangirl for this show.

Ellen Pompeo, appearing to weigh less than the damn purse she was sporting. Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. Sunset Boulevard. Hell-Ay. Maybe there's a shortage of food on the Grey's Anatomy set. Ya think? So, E.P. had on her big fat Nicole Richie sunglasses, the high heels and the matted "I'm too cool to brush my hair" ponytail. I hope she got a big fat latte.
