Of course, the Grey's Anatomy cast had jobs long before this show. There's Patrick Dempsey in Can't Buy Me Love, Ellen Pompeo in Old School, Sandra Oh in Sideways, for example. You know the drill: chat about any GA cast member, whether they're doctors, interns, patients or whomever in other roles here, whether they involve merlot, streaking or African Anteater rituals.

I find it interesting that SOh and Kate Walsh played lovers in Under the Tuscan Sun. Also, Kate and Ellen have both been in Frat Pack movies - Old School and Kicking & Screaming respectively.

Katherine Heigl is the girl from My Father, The Hero which is kind of creepy, IIRC.

I caught T.R Knight in a episode of Fraiser, it was very brief but I still squealed out loud when I saw him. He was wearing a leather jacket, he looked pretty hot.

The episode was a later one, Fraiser had decided to go into private practice and his patients kept running out on him.

I must admit that I watched the ABC Family movie Lucky 7 any number of times because of PD. And wondered how whatzername could be do dismissive of him, even when she thought all he did was run a bagel shop.
kariyaki
I remember Katherine Heigl as a little girl in That Night with Eliza Dushku and Juliette Lewis.
Nerg
Katherine Heigl was also on Roswell, where she played a character named...Isabel Evans. Just remember: Stevens= surgeon, Evans= alien.

You weren't the only one.

I was watching a rerun of Will and Grace the other day and was pleasantly surprised to see that Patrick Dempsey was playing Will’s sports loving boyfriend. He looked very dreamy.

KH has also been in such classics as Wish Upon A Star, and Romy and Michele: In The Beginning. Classy.

Personally, I will always remember Ellen Pompeo on two different episodes of Law and Order. Once she got her boyfriend, Chester, to kill her mother and make it look like a robbery. Then she showed up again a few years later as a different character who, with her boyfriend drugged, sexually molested and killed her younger sister and the sister's friend. So...yeah, I find her kind of creepy.

Katherine Heigl also made this ridiculous, we're out in the old west tv movie called Love Comes Softly with Dale Midkiff. And yes, I have seen it.

Ooh, and Patrick Dempsey was great as Lily's bipolar brother on Once and Again.

And didn't she also play a doctor in that movie as well? (I'm remembering the page at dinner she took, so maybe not... it just gave me that impression)

Recently saw PD in With Honors - liked his character in that one. Think that was around
'92 or so when that was made. He looked.... hot. (shock!)

Kate Walsh had about three lines in Bewitched remake.

Kate Burton was in Empire Falls and was in an episode of The West Wing. She also introduced Jane Kaczmarek to Brad Whitford, so I guess that would make her a matchmaker too.
flux
Kate Burton is also on Rescue Me playing the Chief's wife. And she has Alzheimer’s too.

Sandra Oh was in The Red Violin. Oh and of course Sideways. Good movies.
Enigma13
Katherine Heigl was also in Valentine, with David Boreanaz (from Angel) and Denise Richards.

Sandra Oh was in The Red Violin
Only briefly as a bidder at the auction. Interesting movie, nonetheless.

I think I saw her in another movie...I can't recall the title, though. I do remember one scene where she's walking in the middle of the road surrounded by abandoned cars. IIRC (keep in mind my memory suck), the scene was blue/grey with only her red dress/jacket as the only colour...checking IMDB, it may have been Last Night, but I'm not 100% sure.

Just recently saw Lone Star and Chandra Wilson was in it as an army grunt who is the only one out of 220 people tested positive for drugs and is trying to guard the country from illegal aliens. I think at least, I came into the movie kind of late.

Wilson looks totally different and much younger. However she rocks the role as the grunt and did not realize how short she was until Lone Star. In the show she is such a great character with such a forceful personality that she seems bigger and more bad ass. That after watching Lone Star I realized what a great actress she is and well she is a golden god. Also the movie if anyone watches it is pretty good movie about race realtions, perceptions of family and all this other stuff. Now I want to watch it again.

Oh my god! I knew I saw her somewhere. I love Lone Star.

It was Last Night. She was great in it. I think David Cronenburg played her husband.

PD was just phenomenal in this role (actually 4 different episodes over 3 seasons). His performance as the lead character’s institutionalized schizophrenic brother contains this constant tension and precarious emotional balance. He's damaged and vulnerable with flashes of tenderness and quirky humor shining through. It's heart wrenching to watch. And you thought last week's elevator scene with Bailey made you tear up.

His role in "Once and Again" was my most satisfying find in my obsessional summer film project where I watched and reviewed every single movie in PD's entire career and compiled ratings not just for acting and production, but also for PD's hairstyle and degree of nekkidness. Particularly recommended for their high "skin" ratings: "Bank Robber" and "The Escape."

Oh, he was schizophrenic, not bipolar? Thanks for the correction. But anyway, yes, you're right, he was great, and his storyline (focusing on the daily struggle of dealing with his mental illness in several situations, including a romantic relationship) was excellent. Sniff. I miss that show.
Mrs. Whatsit
Chandra Wilson was also recently on Law and Order:SVU...the one where Olivia has the little girl on the phone for the whole show while everyone tries to find her. Chandra Wilson's character was FBI, I think, and on the computer trying to trace the call, etc. Mr. Whatsit and I both went "Hey, it's Dr. Bailey!" when she appeared.

I heart her.

Oh, Patrick Dempsey was ever so excellent in this role. Granted, at present I have only seen glimpses of "Grey's Anatomy", but I can't fathom PD ever eclipsing his performance during 'Once and Again". It was such a sensitive, mature and in no way maudling portrayal of mental illness. Seriously, it's extremely rare that a character to appear only four times in a sixty episode series run and evoke such pathos. I always looked forward to episodes where I knew Aaron would appear. I've never seen mental illness treated in the same respectful and realistic manner on television since. PD is awesome. It cannot ever be said enough.

Coma Girl I hate to nitpick, but the actress you (rightly) said had such outstanding chemistry with PD is Julia Whelan, not Jill.

I must say that I think Patrick Dempsey ruined Sweet Home Alabama for me. He was such the perfect guy that I couldn't comprehend why Reese Witherspoon was even debating leaving him for her ex-husband. He's PATRICK DEMPSEY. You don't let go of an opportunity like that.

I agree. Cheekbones like that don't come along very often. Heck, I like girls, but I seriously would have trouble turning Mr. Dempsey down. Oh, so pretty!

I watched the beginning of Sweet Home Alabama but stopped when a rerun of Buffy came on. That movie was dull, pretty, pretty PD notwithstanding.

Kat Heigl has my love forever thanks to Wish Upon a Star, which my sisters and I watched everytime it aired on the Disney Channel a few years back. I wish (upon a star) that they'd show it again for old times sake.

I just saw Philadelphia last month and saw that Chandra Wilson was one of Tom Hanks' friends. She was in it very briefly, but I still got excited when I recognized her.

I thought Aaron on Once and Again was bipolar not schizophrenic. My sister just asked me about that last week, and apparently I answered incorrectly.

I think that's the movie LookSee, one of the more understated world's going to end films in recent memory. I first saw Sandra Oh in The Diary of Evelyn Lau and I loved her in it.

I just caught Kate Walsh on an ep of Drew Carey and man I so forgot she played Nikki on that show. She's good at comedy. I liked the show at start but stopped watch once Kate and Drew got together. I have to say that Redhead or Blonde, Kate is a hottie. In the ep I saw her in tonight Kate had on make up that made her look fat.

According to my TiVo, an episode of Will and Grace, where Patrick Dempsey guest stars, is going to be on 11/5 at 12:30pm on Lifetime. (eastern)

Also, Can't Buy Me Love, starring McDreamy in his younger not-so-McDreamy days, will be on 11/12 at 2pm on ABC Family channel.

Enjoy!

I went to the Toronto International Film Festival and saw a movie called Sorry,Haters co-starring Sandra Oh as a program director at an MTV-like station. It was really, really weird.

I also saw Three Needles which also co-starred SOh (in the loosest possible sense, she really didn't have much of a role) as a nun on a mission in South Africa. That was a really good movie. It's about the spread of HIV/AIDS and tells three parallel stories, one in Montreal, one in Burma (?) and one in South Africa. The Montreal story didn't really work for me, but otherwise it was quite good.

Oh my God!! That's where I know her from?!? That's crazy, I totally never would have made the connection!

Just glanced at Daredevil, which was on FX last night. I saw Ellen Pompeo pouring coffee for Jon Favreau's character. Looked her up on IMDB and saw that she got the Karen Page role. Karen Page is the secretary for Matt Murdock(Daredevil) and Franklin Nelson(Favreau's character and Matt's partner in their law firm).

It was a pretty minor role in the movie but if you read the comics she actually has a greater role as Matt's first love. They were so close that she actually knew his secret identity. I would have venture to say that if the film were more popular they may have made her character more integral to the story in the sequels.

Who can forget Justin Chambers (Alex) as the adorable Mossimo in The Wedding Planner? Yes, I realize it had J-Lo in it, but hello, Matthew McConaughey is hot. In any event, how cute was Mossimo/JC extolling the virtues of macaroni & cheese?

Wow, who knew. It's been a while since I've seen that movie. And it remains the ONLY movie in which I liked MM, and without knowing, JC, who I really don't care for on GA.

I KNEW he looked familiar! And Justin was the best thing about that movie. They made J-Lo Italian? WTF?

Francois Chou from "Bring the Pain" played the doctor in the orientation film in the, um, "Orientation" episode of Lost, which was rerun last night.

Kate Burton is also on Rescue Me playing the Chief's wife. And she has Alzheimer’s too.
She is on "Rescue Me," but she plays Rose, the neighbor who takes care of Chief's wife, Jeannie, who has Alzheimer's. But since Chief put Jeannie in a home in the season finale, I don't think we'll see Rose again, unless they start shacking up together.

Seriously? I didn't realize that was Justin. Although I would probably never extoll the virtues of any J-Lo movie, because of that Mossimo character and the father character, I absolutely hate that movie. I could never figure out if those two characters were actually meant to be "developmentally challenged" and, since it was never really made clear, found the characterization of "Italian = retarded" pretty insulting.
whatthedeuce
Mossimo was the only thing I liekd about The Wedding Planner. He was so adorable with his dumb Italian accent!
kariyaki
Same here. In fact, I don't know why I initially watched the movie since I dislike both J-Lo and Matthew McConna-however-you-spell-his-last-name but I found myself watching it, wondering how they thought J-Lo could be believed as Italian and loving Massimo. BIG ole crush on him.

That was Justin Chambers? I had no idea it was him, although looking back I can see the resemblence between the two.

I was re-watching my Friends Season 10 DVD last night and was shocked to find Ellen Pompeo guest-starring in "The One Where The Stripper Cries" as the girl who Ross and Chandler both used to fancy.

Was she in the original version of that movie? I've only seen the directers cut version, and the commentary made it sound like the storyline with her in it was cut out.

I when I saw that scene on FX she served him a cup of coffee, talked to Franklin Nelson about the case and pointed out how he may have been reading a note he got from Matt Murdock upside down. It's been a while since I saw the film in it's entirety but she was in that scene. Her storyline may have been cut back in the original film, but I doubt that FX would be playing the director's cut.
Warden
On IMDb, I think it says her part was cut in the original release but FX has been airing "DVD" versions of some movies so that part may be added in now.
MelMelW
This is totally going to show how lame I am, but Sandra Oh also played the principal of Anne Hathaway's school in the Princess Diaries. It was a small part, but pretty funny - especially the scene where Julie Andrews - the Queen - comes to the school.

Ah, that's where I've seen him before, thanks. I must have also seen him in Once and Again; I have more respect for PD's acting ability now.

To add to the listing of Other Roles: I've seen Kate Burton two times on Broadway: several years ago in Hedda Gabler, and last spring in The Constant Wife, a very funny drawing room comedy. Kate was o.k. as Hedda but quite excellent as the perfect wife who finds out her husband is cheating on her and creatively turns the tables. She said in an interview that she has "grown into her face", which I thought was an interesting way to describe how her face really has changed from traditionally pretty to "interesting"; you can see her father's features there now.

Which reminds me, Kate Burton was in a very good L&O episode, second season, in which she played a nun and sparred with Logan.

I have the CSI series on dvd [ yeah, I'm a CSI geek] and TRK appeared in CSI's season 4 playing a mentally challenged man whose life is ruined because he had a dipshit brother.
micaela
Kate Burton is on my screen now in Big Trouble in Little China; she has red hair and plays Kim Cattrell's friend. Both women were so girly looking then.
Angelgal
I spotted Kate Walsh in an episode of CSI from last season (the one with the gender reassignment surgeries being performed in a storage locker, yuck). She played the best friend of the main murder victim.

Katherine Heigl also made this ridiculous, we're out in the old west tv movie called Love Comes Softly with Dale Midkiff. And yes, I have seen it.
You aren't the only one. Not only have I seen that, I have seen its sequel, Love's Enduring Promise. What? They showed them back-to-back on the Hallmark channel one boring afternoon...

TRK appeared in CSI's season 4
I saw him on that!! He was really, really good, with his little puppy dog eyes...so heartbreaking.

Justin Chambers (Alex) as the adorable Mossimo in The Wedding Planner
Dangit! I actually signed up for these forums so I could be the first to post that fun fact (sad, I know, but whatevs). As soon as I saw him in that first episode, I squealed "Mossimo!" and all of my friends didn't believe me that it was really him- but it WAS.

Also, on Broadway:
"Grey's Anatomy's Sandra Oh will star in the Public Theater world premiere of Diana Son's Satellites . The show, directed by Michael Greif, is scheduled to begin previews on May 23."
It's about an interracial couple who move to a new, racist, rocks-thrown-through-their-windows neighbourhood. Wouldn't it be AWESOME if her onstage husband was Isaiah Washington? Burketina LIVE ONSTAGE!!

Lastly, Ellen Pompeo was in Catch Me If you Can. She's the first stewardess girl that Leo sleeps with.
ghetto hood rat
I'm pretty sure I've seen Chandra Wilson on Strangers With Candy with Amy Sedaris and Stephen Colbert. I can't remember the character exactly. And Katherine Heigl was in Bride of Chucky, which is actually campy fun, so much so that I bought the DVD.
LeleAnne
I was watching Under the Tuscan Sun last night and not only was Sandrah Oh in it (which I am sure we all knew) but the character that plays Addison Shephard was her girlfriend! It took me awhile to recognize her but once I did, it was for SURE her.
