Or, they can both be gay and just do each other.[/quote]
*gulp* Seriously, this show could stand to up the HoYay quotient just a tad.
I could buy Joe being gay. None of the Drs. really make sense at this point. Unless Izzie's major romance is with a chick. Ooh, with Olivia. How cute!

how about that male nurse, I think his name is Tyler? could he be the one who is gay? the one who made Xtina go back to her room when she was up and about...
he was mentioned in the nurse's blog a couple entries back.

Seriously. House is kicking it's butt in the medical-drama-hoyay-department.
I can see people thinking Alex is gay. He makes a lot of "I'm a man!" comments, and yes George does it too, but he does it to prove he's not one of the ladies. Making the male nurse gay would be a bit stereotypical.
Olivia and Izzie would be oh so very fun, but for some reason, I'm thinking it's probably a guy that's gay.

Yay someone else thought of Tyler! That's who I was leaning towards most but then Olivia got thrown in and I think that's too good. Maybe he's Izzie's new romance? Or is that going to be a completely new character? Wouldn't it be good if it WAS him and Izzie, cuz..haha macho-Alex, you got passed over for a nurse.

I don't know, I think there is definately some Hoyay going around. Alex and George and their constant :
"I hate YOU!"
"No I hate you MORE!"
"You didn't KISS her and she shaved her legs!"
"STFU all you did is plug a hole with your finger!"
And best of all:
"YOU GAVE ME SYPHALLIS!"
I've also gotten some vibes between Burke and Derek every now and again.

And for the sentimental of hearts, there was the infamous "hug." But this isn't the HoYay! thread so yeah.
I really think it's a toss up between Joe and Tyler if it's a guy. I can't see it being an intern.

Nov 1, 2005 @ 11:43 pm
Alex did say he was down with the rainbow last year when he thought George was gay..
But no. I think Alex is just being a (loving) jerk when he says all that, and I think George is just trying to seem macho. I can't see either of them having a gay storyline. Didn't a patient hit on George last year? One of the Chief's friends?
And wow, would gay Burke and gay McDreamy make for good TV or what?
But again, not happening.

here's another wild theory about who the gay character is...Chief Webber?
Yes, he's married and had a fling with Mamma Grey, but the affair was 20 some years ago and he hardly sees his wife now. Doesn't even go on vacations with her.
Well I'm only guessing that because there doesn't seem to be anything new for him storywise now that the Ellis storyline & his surgery story is over.
But seriously.. [Seriously!]..my money's on Joe.

Does the Chief know about Burke+Christina yet?
Remember he told McDreamy that it was a really bad idea to be involved with Meredith? That was at least partly because she's an intern and he's an attending, not completely about the whole McSatan thing, right? Does anything happen when he finds out old reliable Preston who doesn't have a life is sleeping with an intern too? Next couple that's not supossed to date because of the hospital hierarchy? Please let is be Bailey and George. (In my dreams I can imagine she's not married)

Oh my, I really hope that McSatan doesn't spawn.
I agree that it would make sense to have Joe be the gay person referred to in spoilers. None of the other recurring characters would make sense, and nobody would really care about a non-recurring character.

If it is Joe that is revealed to be gay, I applaud the writers, because that guy is the last one on the show I would expect to be gay. As much as I love Burke and used to love McD, they are both pretty effeminate, moreso than Joe.
Does anyone have any guesses on who the it is that doesn't complete their internship? I am going to go out on a limb and say Christina, just because she is the least plausible.

Nov 2, 2005 @ 5:43 am
Yeah, but they could also go the other way and ditch Alex, because he failed that test (I can't remember it's name...). OR Izzie; that would be totally unexpected too. I doubt it would be Cristina, just because she's got a huge fan base and whatnot. And it's obviously not going to be Meredith. After all, her name does appear somewhere in the title.
ETA: I really hope Bailey isn't pregnant, and I think the gay character is either Olivia or Joe, probably not the (Tyler?) male nurse.

Y'know...*sigh*...they'll probably just have Izzy lock tongues with a hot female (and maybe dying, just for kicks) guest star (who will never be referenced again) during sweeps, to knock out her romance storyline and the gay angle in one fell, stupid swoop.
Pregnant Bailey? Comedy Gold.

Wasn't McDreamy "gay" on Will & Grace as Will's love interest???? Of course, I personally do not think it is him as the "gay" character; however, all this discussion has caused me to recall that funny W&G episode with Jack measuring McDreamy's inseam while working at Banana Republic.

Someone's not finishing their internship? Damn. Do we know if it's by choice or not? If I had to pick my money's on Izzie. I just can't see the show without any of them. Or maybe they'll be cheap and introduce another intern for like 2 episodes then make them leave.

I think that supposition comes from the exposition in the first series episode where Bailey goes through the numbers with them. Specifically, she says that 8 of them would move to an easier discipline, 5 would crack under the pressure, and 2 would leave of their own devices. Therefore, there are supposed to be at least 16 of them, if only one advances from the program. According to national statistics, the attrition rates for Surgical Residencies has hovered around 22-25% since 1998. This is higher than it was previously due to the lowering reimbursement rates for surgery and the years spent in various programs. While attrition rates do vary from program to program, if we use the highest rate of 25% here, and there are scheduled to be 15 dropouts, then it would indicate that the program started with 60 interns. Please note that the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine, started 2005 with the largest Surgical Internship pool at 333 interns. The smallest of the top 24 programs had 60 interns this year. So that number is believable.
In the pilot episode, there were more interns than the 5 we've come to know (Meh, Xtina, George, Izzie, & Alex), so there is additional cannon fodder for this game. Though it would be nice if they at least acknowledged the existence of those other interens and/or their departure from the program.

I think all of Bailey's interns will finish their residency at Grace. I know Shonda said that she already knows who wouldn't finish, but I'm speculating she's going to introduce some reaccuring interns, who we'll later see dropping out to different fields, or quitting all together.
But if it is one of the interns we know, I can't see it being Cristina, in this non-obvious-obvious way. Because if she didn't it would be a big shock, but also, something, completly obvious writers would do to give a twist. I'm sure if anyone doesn't finish, it'd be an exciting twist, and great Series finale to see Meredith has decided she doesn't want to be a surgeon anymore. But right now, the obvious choice is Alex. After all, he did fail the last part of his boards, and George seems to be on the right path considering Burke seems to see potential in him.

I agree, Guppy Girl!! That would rock. I sincerely heart Bailey.
As for the mystery gay person, I really hope it's not Izzy...I initially hated the matchup with Alex but they are sort of growing on me a little because I think both of them have a little bit of the spoiled-bratness (maybe because they're so pretty?) combined with the underdog vibe. Makes for a winning combo, character-wise, IMHO.
I would further spec that the "interns who don't make it" are conveniently out of our circle of friends. There were others in that initial crowd when Bailey made her big speech. So, several of them are outta there, I would say.

I like this. Cuz we're seeing how overwhelmed she is by it all and how she can't handle personal life/professional (though its understandably difficult since she doesn't really have any friends outside of work). And didn't she say in one of her openings about having a million reasons to not be a surgeon? Of all the interns we know, I gotta say she seems like she wants it the least. It'll take years to happen (hopefully!) but I could see that as a good ending to it all.
I had to tape last week's episode and the tape ran out at the end..what's going on next week?

Did they say the gay character will be someone we see regularly or can it be a patient? Remember that guy who was hitting on George? "you have beautiful eyelashes" or something.
Though I dont see why hed be brought into the storyline even if I thought he was hilarious.

How can Bailey be pregnant? She wasn't even able to finish her "lobster", wink wink wink.
As for the intern who won't make it:
I think Izzie will transfer from surgical to OB/GYN. Izzie is much more soft and doesn't have the edge and drive the other interns have.

Well, Meh is the title character. And usually title characters get want they want. If she does crack and move to another department, how would the stories tie in with her? I see Alex as the obvious choice to fail. He's cocky, not intelligent cocky mind you. He has made how many mistakes now? All he does is steal surgeries (and Xtina too) and although he might be an FBB with a heart of gold, he's the weakest one out of all the interns.
Unless some magical evolution happens to Xtina, I see her as the second choice to quit. She's so determined and over-achieving that sometimes you wish she does fail.
George is not 007 anymore and everyone is rooting for Izzie. I mean how often do you see an ex-lingerie model become a surgeon? Okay, I'm starting to ramble so I'll stop now.

Well, that's why I said series finale. It wont happen until the end that she decides to switch specialties, or quit all together. The protagonist doesn't always have to get what they want. It's a great twist and shock if Meredith decides she just wasn't to go through with it anymore. I'm not saying she'll switch right away.
As for Izzie, I think she is one of the most dedicated interns. She just isn't as agressive as the others. As for Alex, he is deffinatly the weakest, and he has potential to be better, but he just doesnt have what it takes. Surprisingly out of all of them, I see George making it through and becoming a great surgeon.

Here are my thoughts on the future...
Izzie will move on to OB where she will find out some dirt on Addison - which will lead to McD and her breaking up for good. She'll tell Meredith AFTER she's already moved on and found someone else (airport guy?). Alex will eventually break down and go to Izzie for help on his test - where they will eventually hook up.
Again, just my thoughts.
Any way we can get an overview of GA Spoilers from the previous thread moved over there without the bars? I wasn't about to get all of them over there. Thanks.

Chandra Wilson has just had a baby which would make Bailey the sho in for the pregnancy storyline I would think.
