Well that sorta sucked. I was bored throughout most of the episode.
The only storyline that interests me is the dude in the basement of the Applewhite's house. So he's an abuser. Seems worthy of some sort of punishment. Lockdown and drugging? Not so sure. But these women are all nutzo so what are you gonna do??
I thought Betty was lying about the abuse just to get the sleeping pills.
Ding! This never even crossed my mind but that makes total sense. I totally bought her abuse line. That's how good Alfre Woodard is.
Susan shut up. That is all. Julie is 10x smarter than her mother.
Edie looked a hot mess in the red suit.
Gabrielle and Carlos were more fun when he was out of prison.
Lynette. Sneaky bitch. Tom needed a reality check but since when is simple communciation outdated. She harped, she bitched, she moaned, she abused him, and then she tricked him. Poor GayMatt. His wife sucks.
KimberBree's smackdown was hilarious. Rude as ever, but still funny.

I, too, am particularly enjoying Lynette (and Tom). The stories flow (VERY slowly in the case of Gabby and Susan), but I'm having a hard time caring...am I alone in this? The housewives seemed a lot closer in the first season, and that was part of the charm of the show, I think.

Ugh, thanks to CTV for missing one segment of the show and playing the last segment twice.
So that's what happened. I was wondering why the show ended at 9.50 for some reason. Idiots, first last year with that whole Juno's fiasco now this. Susan is just so tiresome, that it's hard to care about anything she does or she's involved with. But while she goes off the tracks of enjoyability the other three turn it out. For the first time in a while I liked Lynette today, even though her plan could have unleashed the Hanta virus on her house or something. Bree was fantastic, loved her slapping in mother in law, way to show your emotions.

OK. My comments on tonight’s ep. Thought it was better than last week’s (not that that’s saying much).
My favorite lines (both Bree, of course):
“For God’s sake Phyllis, don’t you ever worry about dehydration??”
“Phyllis, you’re going to have to stop that.”
You can just see how much she hates being around MamaRex. And why is she still hanging around??
The long-awaited (well, for us spoiled ones) slap. That was great. And Lynette’s face afterward, priceless.
What was up with the breeze when Mike came over to get his pants?? Susan looked like she was in a commercial for perfume or something with her hair blowing in the wind like that.
Oh, when I saw George’s license plate (I do this all the time, don’t know why, though), it was HGP ### (can’t remember the numbers). Immediately, I thought “Homicidal, Goofy Pharmacist.” It was between Goofy and Gay – since he’s pursuing Bree so much, I’m kinda leaning against (can you do that??) gay.
And who the hell did Edie piss off to become the Suzanne Summers of Wisteria Lane?? And roller skates?? In 2005??
Loved Lynette and the rat. I know, I know. She still manages to interfere with everything that Tom does, but seriously, I need something like that for my hubby.

Letting a rat loose in your house is one whacked-out way to make a point, Lynette! And then you "didn't see that one coming" in that Tom would take a shovel & kill said rat??!!
And did anyone else expect the rat to jump out of the trash can when Lynette was talking to it?
Note to the Continuity Folks with DH: Please be consistent about Lynette & Tom's vehicles. Last season, you had Lynette driving a Buick Rendevous in some episodes, a Chevy Venture minivan in others, but there was no consistency between episodes. Tom drove a Cadillac CTS. Tonight, we see the Chevy minivan in the driveway and Lynette pulls up in either a Nissan Maxima or an Infiniti (I couldn't tell for sure). Continuity Folks, we notice these things!!!
Loved Bree bitchslapping Phyllis in the restaurant. I just wondered what took her so long to do it.
And during one of Phyllis' whining jags, she referred to Rex as her "firstborn" which to me indicates she has other children. Where were they at Rex's funeral, and more importantly, why isn't Phyllis with them or, better yet, at her own damn house?? Bree, you why haven't you sent Phyllis packing?
Is Gabrielle ever going to start showing her pregnancy?
And what kind of insurance agent actually does investigation work on his own? I can't picture my agent stalking his clients at night with a camera.

I think Betty was lying as well. It's too easy, and too soon in the season for such a revelation. Quite frankly, I still don't know what to think of her or her "son".
I was really hoping that Tom would get in there and do the job that Lynette said was "oh, so difficult" with flying colors. But noooo. How pathetic - to put a towel over baby spittle and act like nothing is wrong. Who does that? Principal, my ass. Get a clean sheet already! Heck, grow a pair, hire a freaking cleaning woman and get yourself some kind of work-at-home job, you wuss.

Count me among those who figured Betty was lying (though there may be a kernel of truth in her story; there usually is..), and who thought Bree was GREAT! The slap and the Italian line (and I AM Italian!) were too funny! Too bad she's going to have to pay for them, apparently. Lynette was good this time around, and I kinda feel for Susan, even if she is being sillly. Great show!

Yea, I am pretty sure she just wanted the sleeping pills from the doctor, so she came up with that bogus story to make him feel sorry for her.
Also, I loved Lynette and Tom's pillow fight. Bree and George...gross and boring. I love Bree, please don't make this season be alll about George and legal issues.

Lynette... I'm on the fence here. On one hand, obviously it's frustrating to come home after a long day of work to a dirty house. On the other, she has zero respect for her husband, she just wants him to be another child. And besides, how long has it been? Can't he have a couple of weeks to get into the swing of things?
Gabby and Carlos, worth each other, funny to watch.
Julie looks great with the new wavy hair!
I'm officially intrigued by the Applewhite mystery.
Poor Bree. But honestly... standing beside a man and touching his arm is now proof of a relationship? What the hell? And Rex's mother, she has no manners whatsoever does she? Milking her son's death for every ounce of attention and spotlight she can get and then she has the nerve to accuse Bree of not caring? Wish Andrew would run her over.
P.S. I'm in Canada and something weird happened... episode ended early and then the station switched back to the Betty at the psychiatrist's scene. What the...?

Doesn't Bree also have siblings. In the episode when she tells Zana about her mom getting run over while singing Christmas carols, she mentions that her family left her behind because she was too young to go to the hospital. So I thought she had other brothers and/or sisters. Where are they?

I LOVED Bree bitch-slapping Phyllis the MIL-from-Hell. In fact I love everything about Bree. Strange since I'm so different from Bree, but Marcia Cross is beyond awesome. She makes this cold uptight character by far the most endearing Housewife of the show. And I love her scenes with George the pharmacist -- how her face softens, and you see how beautiful she is and how maybe one day she could be happy.
I have to admit the Gabrielle storyline cracked me up tonight. Especially her conversation with the very well-endowed girlfriend.
Edie? So annoying. She really doesn't belong on the show and her boning Susan's ex seems like a contrived storyline to give Nicolette some facetime.
Lynette's conversation with the rat might give her another Emmy.
And I think Betty's lying about the abuse because the prisoner's rattling and banging is keeping her up at night. But I'm really curious about this storyline.

I may be the only one, but I found the rat story gross. You have a small child (6 mos.? 9 mos.?) and big kids and you set a mouse/rat loose in your home. What if it got into the crib while the baby was sleeping? Or ran across the kids food? Sorry, that just wasn't smart or funny to me. Like someone said, there are better ways to communicate.
Susan drains me.
Loving Betty, but lusting after Matt. Damn, that boy is fine! I loved her nonchalant answer to his question, "Why does he keep banging?" Betty: "Because he knows it's annoying."
Don't care about Edie or Susan's ex. Loved Bree and I'm so happy she slapped the mom. Too bad she's going to pay for that.
Gabby? I usually find her funny and cute, but allowing you husband to be beat up is not cute or funny. It's selfish and she is annoying me now.

I agree - I really don't want this to be an entire season of me screaming at the TV for Susan to knee that smarmy douchebag asshole Karl in the 'nads every time they have a scene together with her being too dumb to see how he is constantly just jerking her around (which is a distinct possibility since Richard Burgi is now in the opening credits). I don't know which of those two I wanted to slap more by the end of this episode.

A couple of weeks to get the hang of putting dishes in the dishwasher? I think Lynnette could have handled toy clutter or an overflowing laundry basket, but dirty, sticky dishes all over the kitchen, no way. The rat was over the top, but was funny. Tom was having no part of reasonable expectations.
I also thought the rat was going to jump out of the garbage can.

I am really not into this Bree plot with them investigating her. I think because we already KNOW who did it it is annoying. I dont care how they figure out the George the crazy stalker did it. It doesnt interest me.
I cant stand when shows use plots where the audience already knows what the characters do not.
I would be more interested in seeing her reactions, and how she is coping.
A storyline for Lynette NOT about the kids. Wow. Boring though.
Gaby has grown up since last season.
Susan just needs to go away. She is so selfish and self centered. Although her comeback to Edie should have been "really, he was the worst sex I ever had"

Anyone else reminded of I, Claudius? After Claudius' mother realizes what a psycho evil bitch her daughter is, she locks the girl in her room where she starves to death. Oh good. I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that Betty and her "son" seem a little closer than normal. Although it could just be a single mother/mama's boy kind of thing, something is just a bit off about that situation (other than the obvious).
I *LOVED* Bree's bitchslap. I wanted to hit Phyllis from the day she walked through the door.
The way Lynette dealt with that situation was ridiculous, but so was her husband's actions. I understand having to get back into the swing of rearing four children, but not changing the sheets after the baby puked all over them? That's just pure laziness right there.
I still hate Gabrielle and her gold-digging Armani self.
I saw Susan running over Edie a mile coming.

Here's my theory. There is a grain of truth in Betty's story to the doctor. She did have a son, in addition to Matthew, and she did have a husband who was an abuser. The son is the one locked up in the basement. He suffered brain damage trying to protect Betty from her abusive husband, and he probably killed the father in the process. Betty didn't report it because she didn't want her brain-damaged son subjected to a trial/imprisonment/mental institution. This is why Betty willingly suffers the punishment of listening to her son torment her from his basement lair; she feels guilty because she didn't get out of the marriage or stop her husband from abusing both her and her children. And that's why Matthew has some tender feelings toward the person locked up, although he is too brain-damaged to appreciate it.
So endeth my speculation. :)

The boy who plays Matthew is 24 in real life and boy can you tell in his voice.
Bree's Pimp Slap on her Mother in law was the highlight of tonight's episode.

I can't believe I liked Lynnette in this episode. Maybe it was just that she annoyed me less this week than anyone else. Yes, the rat was a little lame, but I loved her reactions during the restaurant scene with Bree and Sniffyllis.
Speaking of Bree, I normally love her, but I thought she was quite insensitive. Yes, Phyllis' reactions were annoying, but I don't think the slap was warranted. The two women grieve (or don't grieve) in different ways.
And Susan. I honestly do not understand any of her actions. And I'm okay with that. I only wish I could have that breeze flowing through my hair all the time.
I totally thought the paperboy was going to chase Susan around, yelling, "TWO DOLLARS!"

I liked Lynette's story line and I usually don't. Sure the rat was over the top, but I could see where she would get frustrated. It's not like that was the first thing she did. She tried to talk to Tom and he was convinced his system was fine.
I like Gabby's storyline. I think she and Carlos have good chemistry. I'm thinking of the
"Why are all rich men jerks?"
"The same reason all beautiful women are bitches." scene here. The storyline itself wasn't too compelling, but they have funny moments and I enjoy the characters.
Loved Bree. But I agree with whoever said before that her touching George isn't exactly proof of a relationship. I hate the MIL and just want her to be gone. She's annoying and prevents us from seeing anything Bree is feeling about Rex's death.
I HATE Susan. She is so aggravating. Her storylines are boring and she's so petty. Julie is a much better character and I enjoy her scenes.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that, but it made me think of a feminine hygeine commercial instead.
Those photographs the insurance agent snapped aren't really all that incriminating. She had her hand on his arm. Big wow.
I had briefly hoped that Phylis had accepted Bree's apology because it had made her feel that she was actually grieving in her own way too, but that was naive of me.
The alcoholic neighbour from last week showed up again! Thank you, continuity fairy! You've dropped the ball on so many things that it's refreshing to see a common thread. But was I the only one to think that the paperboy looked kinda like her?

Mrs. Applewhite: You know we don't talk to him. That's part of his punishment.
Matthew: How can you just sit here, hour after hour, and listen to that?
Mrs. Applewhite: Well, that's part of mine.
I was more than just reminded of "I, Claudius", Eegah. That whole exchange was a direct lift from the scene where Claudius is talking to his mother about his sister, Lavilla. Phyllis the MIL-from-Hell
She is that. Still, I'm kind of hoping she'll turn out to be the instrument of Ninetoes destruction. As far as the rest of the eppy:
The Applewhites - Just, what. the. Hell?
Geez, Squeaky died for Lynette's sins. Though, I figured it'd turn out that way, or, he'd wind up as a beloved pet.
I've never really believed Susan was over the ex-husband (in a good or bad way). Unpopular opinion: I actually think there's more of an onscreen spark between Hatcher and Burgi than Hatcher and Denton. That said, I never had anything against Susan and Mike, but they never quite worked for me. I guess if I have to put up with Susan, I think I'd find a storyline focusing on her and the jerk-ex more interesting than than this back and forth thing with her and Mike.
Edie's skate-o-rama garb - Just, what. the. Hell?
Carlos and Gabs - Wow, could anything make this compelling love story even more...wait...next week, Miguel's Back!
As much as I'm enjoying Shirley Knight as Rex's mom, can't say I didn't laugh at the smack. To quote a really old guy, "Someone had to do it."
The prospect of Bree taking the fall for Rex's death has me torn between having sympathy for her, yet not exacting hating the idea of the chance to see a Bree in The Big Birdhouse storyline.

Phyllis deserved that slap. Can Andrew run her over, please?
Loving the firey chemistry with Gabby/Carlos even more. Someone needs to give Ricardo an Emmy nod or something. He's doing so much with what little material he's given. Speaking of which, did they give him a raise? Of all the male cast members, his name comes up before the others.
Karl may be a jerk but I think he's got a nice bod.
Lynette whacking Tom with a pillow amused me. That lady looks gorgeous. The bit with the rat was cruel, but crafty.
I'm glad we heard more about Betty's story. Mechad's not a bad actor or anything, but way too old to be sixteen.
Susan is more interesting with Edie than with Mike. I love how those two girls catfight.

Richard Burgi is quite good-looking, has anyone mentioned that? But Karl has no purpose, whatsoever, so yeah. He does, however, entertain me more than Roger Bart.

That poor rat but really, learn to clean a damn house you aren't 20 years old living with your frat brothers anymore. The insurance thing really angers me, because I know three insurances agents, two are good friends of mine. They have people who are professionals that investigate a false claim or something and guess what when that happens the police are usually notified. The doctor showing the note, thinking faul play and Phylis thinking that Bree is with Ninetoes because they hugged. Really WTF? Don't think about checking the medican, don't contact the police and what do you mean it has been so hard to settle the insurance, the man was having health problems it wasn't like without warning Rex just had a heart attack. I thought Lynette was quite tame when she communicated with GayMatt. He already feels insecure because she was the more successful executive amongst the two prior to the kids. Lynette's an alpha female who can obviously outperform her own husband. So for her to start criticizing his housework duties would be another salt to his wounds, it's like saying he'll never do anything nearly as good as her. Therefore simple communication would not have worked because GayMatt would always feel a chip on his shoulder. In that respect I thought her scheme was funny and harmless; and he discovered he could be a better housekeeper.

There comes a time, regardless of how perfect you try to be, that you just let things slide occasionally. It's one of the truths of being a working mother... Kudos to Shirley Knight. I know people like Phyllis, and she is absolutely nailing it.
Marcia Cross: They should start engraving your name on the Emmy now.
Several people have commented on the insurance guy. I got the impression that he was a claims adjuster, not an agent. I think when Phyllis called his office, he even answered the phone w/ "Claims."
Love Edie. I was really thinking that Karl was going to guilt Susan into looking after her while she recovers. I hope Karl and Edie stay together, and Julie forms a bond with Edie. THAT should really freak out Susan.
Still no Paul Young. I would think by now the writers would realize he has been painted into a corner. I really don't know what more they could do with the character.
