Martha Stewart's "other" show, the daytime talk show, starts Sept. 12th.
Here's her first week lineup:
Monday - Marcia Cross
Tuesday - Poncho Day with David Spade
Wednesday - Jay Leno
Thursday - Diddy teaches Martha how to rap
Friday - Martha's Mother's 91st Birthday show
A diverse line up, I guess you could say. I'm kind of looking forward to watching a bit of it to see how Martha acts in interviews. She always seems really fake in her previous daytime show, so I'll be interested to see how she is without the script.

Canadian Tyler, what network is this on in Canada? I haven't seen it advertised on any main one's that I can tell.
Can't wait to see it, just so I can nurture my masochistic side, as watching Martha always makes me feel like crap.

Dear Martha,
On behalf of those of us that are either non-black or non-celebrities, we are counting on you for our television talkshow. Please be informative and entertaining. And may the only clams on your show be part of a prepared dish.

I know someone who went to a taping of this show earlier in the week. He said that the day's topic was "America's Worst Chefs" or something, and Martha was unable to read the teleprompter so she just said really awkward things and smiled a lot. Should be fun!

It just may be a hit. I'm looking forward to it.
Hey, she's paid her dues, let's give her a chance. I would like to see a day time talk show not almost totally focused on celebrities, like The View, or Ellen, or Tony Danza, or Regis & Kelly or..........That stuffcan rot your brain after awhile.
Poncho Day with David Spade? I see Martha is not above making fun of her stint in The Big House. Which is great.i think her commercials and opening credits make fun of that as well. I think that's the way to go - don't avoid it, but don't focus on it either.

What a lame lineup for the first week. I would think much better celebs would be falling all over themselves to get on her show.

I thought it was pretty good for the first show. Martha seems to have actually loosened up or is trying mightily to loosen up, so she came across as actually friendly and interested in other people, which bodes well for a talk show. .

Wow. Just wow.
It wasn't so bad, but Martha was really awkward, and at one point noticeably read from a cue card on the table.
She also kept cutting people off mid-sentence.
Her set is awesome. It seems like she tried hard to be personable.
I hope the show gets better!

Martha was on at 10 a.m. EST in my neighborhood. I must say that I enjoyed the first half hour or so (all I was "permitted" to watch because the husband is home). Marcia Cross was comical trying to make an olmette, but the little egg shells as serving containers for the eggs was a bit much. Also, it was refreshing and surprising to see the opening showing so much of Martha's life (including the trial/jail stuff).

It wasn't bad, but it wasn't really good, either. I hope she improves and settles into her comfort zone quickly. I like that there isn't a couch-that the guests will be actually doing stuff as they talk. It should be interesting.

Oh, god. After watching her put the butter in the egg bowl, I love Marcia Cross even more. Hysterical.
Plus, I am so folding my tee-shirts that way. Just as soon as I can figure it out without tangling myself in it.
In San Francisco, she's on at 3 pm on NBC.

In Cleveland, Ohio she's on at 10am, no major competition against her (Oprah or the View). I think the show has potential, but the egg cooking w/Marcia was booooring, and the segment with the two "meatball" ladies seemed to go on forever. I know Martha is tall, but the MB ladies must be really petite - you mainly saw their heads and a bit of their shoulders as they worked at the counter...they should have given them boxes to stand on! (since I am height challenged, I can say that!)....it just looked odd to see Martha from the waist up, and the other two were like floating heads.
I thought Martha's opening statements were sincere, and I hope this show does well. It's interesting to see her in a format that is more spontaneous than her old show, where there are no "re-takes" (at least in some segments), and she will have to let herself be seen in less than perfect form at times.

Great set--and I like how they showed a bit of it being put together.
I only got interested in Martha Stewart fairly recently, but I could see some flashes here and there of the critical, perfectionistic, difficult personality people mention (the "weeding" comments, somewhat overdoing the idea that Marcia Cross's character was based on her--funny at first, then not...a few other things. She seems very much a "iron fist in a velvet glove", but I think it works pretty well here).
I love the way she incorporates her experience into making small talk at dinner with the Italian family, "I know every card game. I got the book of Hoyle while I was in prison."
Maybe I'm weird, but I thought of all the otherwise boring things I could really make sound interesting just by adding "...while I was in prison."
She had a lot of variety in an hour, and everything is beautifully photographed (including the ladies' house and kitchen).
I even liked the GE oven commercial.

I really liked the show. Wish I hadn't missed the first 17-18 minutes, since it's aired here on the east coast at 6:00 pm , and I work until 6:00 pm.
Martha handled herself very well. She was warm, well spoken not too overly nervous. I adored those Italian sisters!
In truth, I really enjoy having Martha back in this new format. I'll be watching as much as I can. The set is fantastic, as well.
If the shows to come are as good as the first, I'll have to re-learn programming my ole' VCR so I won't miss the opening.

I fully admit to getting up, finding a T-shirt, and practiced that until I got it right and now I have more room in my closet.
The show was not bad. The second 1/2 dragged quite a bit and there was some bad cue card reading, but seeing celebs trying to do something they're not used to is always good for a chuckle. Plus, prison anecdotes!

Martha is on against The View in the Chicago area. When I saw a commercial for Martha on opposite The View I promptly took The View off my DVR and replaced it with Martha. The only problem is my DVR missed most of the opening...at least 5 mins.
Anyway I thought it was ok. Not because Martha was smooth or even that she seemed comfortable but despite those things.
How refreshing it was compared to The View. I almost feel as I did when I quit smoking...LOL I just hope I don't do a year of lapsing back into a bad habit like I did with the smokes.
I think she'll get better as she get episodes under her belt.
Loved that she wanted to weed Jerri or Gina's garden. Would have been an insult coming from anyone else.

Due to complications with my converting EST to PST I missed the first half hour of Martha (fortunately for future reference we get it 3 times a day, 4 if you have digital).
I enjoyed the format. She seemed to be having fun for a change. Loved the new studio.
Hopefully I will never again have to listen to the consumate wedding editor Darcy Miller go on, and on, and on and on again about obsessive details of the pins in the bouquet ribbons and how many layers of tissue paper one can insert in the hand drawn wedding invitation. The old Martha show seemed to have an edless supply of sycophant young editors with nasal New York accents who lived to paint rocks and glue on pipe cleaner legs.
Please let this be a show where she connects to her audience. There is something calming about watching her. Sort of like watching Naaarm (Norm) Abrams in the Yankee Workshop. You just know that if you too had a workshop the size of a barn with state of the art tools and built in dust removal system you'd be banging out hand made cabinetry in no time. This is fantasy (or porn) and just what I need after a long day of battling my imaginary foes that live in my computer. Lord I hope they are imaginary. Perhaps I should reread my Asimov.
Anywey, to keep on topic. It was a good first effort and I hope she can keep up the momentum.

Awww...c'mon! I've always liked Martha, but no one is going to snark on anything? Not even those gold platform clogs she was wearing? Or that she kept calling Marcia Cross "Bree Vandercamp"? Or that when she was introducing the segment with the Italian sisters that a little boy in the audience was mimicking her? Those were my favorite parts.
Otherwise, I agree that the show was fun and it's nice to see Martha flub the lines and have things not go as planned. Not to mention that those precious moments, as several of you mentioned, where she's just a *little* snooty (You use POWDERED garlic?!?) are a refreshing change from the ass-kissing guestfest most other daytime shows have become.

I really liked this show! Yayy!!!
I was looking forward to it a lot, being a huge Martha fan, and I am going to be tuning into this show every day.
Some parts were boring, and there were times where she seemed at a loss for words (searching... squinting... where is the prompter? Out there? Somewhere?) But overall it was really fun and cute. I liked Marcia Cross, I liked the italian ladies. It was fun to see them so excited when Martha was in their house.
I am curious to know what Martha contributed to the relief efforts, she said something about revealing it later in the week.

Hee. I really like Martha but she seemed a bit ill at ease with such a flowing/not all scripted format. Parts of it made me cringe as a result. Still, overall, it was enjoyable, and I'm sure she'll grow into it. It's really too bad it's airing at 10 am and 3 pm in my market so I won't be able to watch it.

I missed yesterday's show, but caught Poncho Day. Any show that gives me Mark Burnett in a poncho is a good thing. And Francesca had "Elmo" cracking up. I've always thought Martha had a great laugh and it's nice to hear it and see her in a more relaxed setting. It does seem that prison was good for her. I'll watch again.

I was struggling most of the morning trying to create the folded tee shirts that was on the show yesterday. Martha is on at 11:00am here, and thankfully she recreated how to fold the tee shirt. Now I can be a Gap employee and fold tee shirts professionally. I will stress that I won't be folding tee shirts with a poncho on though. ;)
I also won't be recreating her prison food recipes from today's show. Thanks anyway Martha.

OK, first off, I want to live in that mammoth set. I mean, c'mon, they're not using it at night. Just leave the leftovers from the show in the product-placed refrigerator in Kitchen Wing. I'll do the dishes, sleep in the Craft Wing, and be off to work in the morning. You won't even know I'm there!
I used to watch Martha because I found her calming (and, yes, educational). And her show was beautifully filmed. This talk show format? Not so much. I'll certainly give them a few months to microplane the rough edges off, readjust the lighting and get used to their new format, but, producers, I beg you, put some Ritalin in the audience's goodie bags and lose the cheerleader guy -- yes, I saw him -- who gooses them at the end of commercial breaks. And stop showing them so much. I want to watch Martha and her guests, not the audience. Less is more, please.
That said, I would totally scream my head off in the stands for a How-to-fold-a-t-shirt t-shirt.
Edited because small words are as important as big ones.

I liked this show too. Loved that they complained about the hot eggs in the plastic "pastry" bag..."whose idea was this?"
Martha was a bit stiff during the opening segment, but she seemed to loosen up once she had something to do. I think she'll get better once she gets her bearings.
It's also nice to see the slebs doing something rather than just sitting there talking about nothing. I do wish Marcia Cross's forehead wasn't so smooth, shiny and immobile. It's a bit distracting.
Martha's on Letterman next Monday. I always enjoy her interactions with Dave. Should be good.

Word to your entire post, AllAboutMBTV.
I am a huge Martha fan, and I am soooooo disappointed in this show.
I watch Martha because I want to learn from her and other experts how to do things, or see segments that teach me about something I don't know about. I don't need her interviewing inept celebrities who are only there to plug their latest projects. Or seeing her in wacky stunts like dropping in on random people and causing a spectacle in their kitchens. No matter what she says, it's just another mediocre talk show, with a hooting audience screaming about gift bags.
Martha has so much more to give than this.

Awww...c'mon! I've always liked Martha, but no one is going to snark on anything?
I was laughing practically the instant she opened her mouth, when she took care to offhandedly introduce this as the
première episode of her new show, complete with snooty accent.
I can't look away, dammit; Martha fascinates me, always has. I can never decide whether she's utterly out-of-touch with reality, genuinely aghast at people who use garlic powder or can't fold a t-shirt into the dimensions of a sheet of typing paper...or whether she's fooling us all with a hilarious scam. I keep thinking that she's got a demented, subtle sense of humor, and has committed herself to creating the most surreal talk show in history. I mean, come on--rappin' and wrappin', with P. Diddy? She's got to
mean that to be subversive and side-splitting, right? I truly want this new endeavor to be like Letterman, with crafts.
I hope, and think, that prison has softened her edges a bit, or let more of that bizarre wit come out. I also think that her visible discomfort with the live format is an ultimate good; realizing that a Martha project might not come out so perfectly without a squadron of assistants and multiple takes is comforting. It gives things a nice sort of Julia Child quality: hey, hot eggs will burn your hand. You can mess up. It's okay.
Totally Tivo-ing "Poncho Day" as we speak. Would also happily let Martha recoil at my housekeeping abilities on national television in exchange for a t-shirt-folding t-shirt.

God help me, I thought the David Spade segments were hilarious. I loved the Scarface paprika thing, and what he said about waiting a week on his new show, and then "go in for the kill" about Martha. And I have mastered the t-shirt folding thing, so I'm already learning from her! I was amazed she didn't know anything about microwave cookery, but cracked up at her anal retentive nachos.
Plus, if she brings Paw Paw everyday, I'd watch, because he's too damn cute.

I think that since this is her first experience with live stuff, I'm going to give her time to settle in before I totally make up my mind. I mean, I saw a few of Mario Batali's first shows and they were so hideous, I can't believe he ever made it as a Food Network chef.

I'm kind of enjoying that she sucks at this. It makes her more human or something. I like seeing her have a huge fault.
I also loved it when David Spade was talking about tator tots doing a whole schtick about how he can cook frozen foods and she was like "What's in a tator tot?" totally not getting that it was a joke. I love knowing that there are people on this planet that have never encountered a tator tot.
I get the feeling that she's trying too hard to seem human. I think I'd like it better if Martha bitched out occasionally and threatened someone with a cheese grater because it's obvious that she's uncomfortable. As adorable as Elmo was, you could tell she had no idea how to deal with the puppet.

Well, then! We just need to hook Martha up with the Duggar clan and do a whole week of shows on how to run a household with 16 kids Martha-style . She can show them how to quickly and neatly fold those plaid sacks they wear, and the best way to iron and starch those countenance-enhancing bibs. The centerpiece of the whole week will be when the daughters teach Martha how to make the famous Duggar Tater-Tot Casserole, which Martha will enliven with a festive parsley garnish.
Of course, Martha being the mom she is, she might just come up with a day's worth of contraceptive tips.

Could David Spade have been any less interested in what Martha was doing? Her stories from Alderson would have been a lot more engaging if she didn't also have to pimp random celebrities who are only there to pimp their own shows, or deal with the raving audience. I hate having to watch my beloved Martha in this format.
