About the show: I want "The Tyra Banks Show" to be our place to kick back every day. Of course we're going to learn and grow and cry sometimes, but mostly, we're going to have fun. I'm talkin' laughin', screamin', dancin', catwalkin', fun! I'll be talking to some of our favorite celebrities - I promise I'll try to be professional, but I might get a little crazy with the really fun ones. And you know there will be makeovers, but I think we should all learn to appreciate our inner-beauty too. I want us to feel fierce the moment we wake up, before we throw on all that fabulous makeup and those hot clothes. I'll hook you up with the best experts who can help out with that, and I'll talk to real-women guests about the things that matter most - everything from self-esteem, to family, relationship and friendship issues. We can all learn a lot from these stories. And yes, I promise to fess up to all my own personal drama. I've been cheated on, lied to and heartbroken one too many times! It sounds like we have a lot to talk about, huh? So make sure you're tuned in and ready to go on a wild and crazy journey together.

I know this show isn't exactly aimed at my gender, but that's never stopped me from snarking on a show.

Clearly Tyra and I have different ideas of fun if "catwalkin" is in the list.
And yes, I promise to fess up to all my own personal drama.
Great. Just what I was hoping for.
I can't see this show lasting too long. Tyra's not exactly someone that most people can relate to.
Also, the shows executive producer has a spotty history: EP for Wayne Brady and Tony Danza. Not exactly blockbuster shows.

I like Tyra but I just don't see her as a talk show host. Everybody thinks they can do it, including myself, and the truth is, WE CAN'T.

I thought the WB was very successful. I mean it won an Emmy. Although I know that Emmy doesn't equal people watching. Everyone I knew was watching.

True about the Emmy, but the show only lasted for two seasons - there must have been ratings problems for the network to can it.
We should start a pool on how long TB Show will last.

Maybe they should just have her sit there in Victoria Secret underwear. It might get better ratings than anything that either lets her talk or has her mother on every other show.

At first I read this as "insecure." Tyra strikes me as the type to likes to be liked, but she doesn't do a good job of faking caring, though. I'll watch the show, though. If only in the hope that she screams at her guests the way she did with Tiffany (How DARE you! We were all ROOTING for you! TAKE SOME RESPONSIBILITY, WHEN MY MAMA . . . etc.). I also have a feeling that I'm going to have to create a drinking game for everytime she mentions her mama or says "fierce".

What would make this show fierce is if she had a RuPaul-esque sidekick. Hell, turn it into a big ol' gay guy and his galpal gabfest. I know I and my queer facilitator have some funny as hell conversations. But I don't think La Banks' ego could stand that.

I saw the part of the preview, too and it looked like a fun show. Tyra took two audience members and they all reappeared without their make up. Since the National Enquirer and Fox love to run stars without their make up stories and specials, I thought she was pretty honest but I think she's done it on ANTM before. She does the Ellen dancing thing but with more women and on the catwalk.

Tyra is a bitch. I met her in Las Vegas with some of the other victorias Secret girls. Hedi, Adrianna, and Alexandra were the picture of sweet women. Tyra turned down an autograph to a 10 year old boy right in front of me for no reason. His response? He stated he had driven all the way from Colorado with his parents to meet her. She just seemed so snub. This show will be awful. Tyra's daddy was a rich man when she was young. She grew up wealthy, then became a supermodel. I don't think it's too relatable to an audience. Now Oprah on the other hand...

I went to test group yesterday and show part of her new show. Most of the women liked the segments and she seems to be really natural in front of the audience. I saw:
a girl with an eating probelm and her mother,
three young women with an empty apartment get a house makeover from Dennis Brown,
what your shoes say about you,
Tyra gets a breast sonagram(under her robe) to disprove rumors that she has implants and
a couple go on free pass dates. The woman goes salsa dancing and gets a friendly good bye hug. The man goes rock climbing, wines and dines the new woman and buys her a pair of $6,000 diamond earrings. The boyfriend and new woman also spend the night at his place, him on the couch, her in the bed. Despite them dating for 2 and a half years, they broke up on camera. Tyra was good at telling the girlfriend to direct her anger and questions at the boyfriend and not the new date.

Did she have a heart to heart talk with her mother while curled up on a bed or was this a new weepy act? Though the idea of her pulling out the sonogram and yelling to the audience "respect the real boobies" has plenty of potential.

Not a good sign, there's already changes in the production team for the show. The executive producer, who was named to that position in June, has been replaced by a former producer for The Larry Elder Show, Sharon Osbourne, Change of Heart (I'd forgotten about that show!) and Jenny Jones

Tyra may not have Oprah's journalistic pedigree, but she is no less sincere than Miss Winfrey; They both can do fake "i'm Your Buddy, hon" very well...

I didn't think the show was on yet. Weird.
The more I hear about this show, the more I hate it. For example: The set will have a runway. Yes, a runway. Why? According to Tyra:
"The runway symbolizes something in society that's kind of intimidating, very intimidating to women," she says. Not on her show, though. The idea is to "not make it an intimidating thing but make it something that women can get on and have fun and feel empowered.
"If they do something or share something, or make a life change, they can get on there and kind of celebrate that. They have so much fun they don't want to get off."

OK -- who has seen this?
I have. The fact that the sucker started minutes late and ended minutes early is not a good sign; they seem to be having trouble selling enough commercials in it. The show began with a typical long, boring, self-aggrandizing Tyrant monologue. I think I saw about three men in the audience. Typrah showed a few before and after montages of familiar Tyra shots from ANTM, and the difference in amount of flesh present was predictably shocking.
After the TyMom segment, Typrah moved on to that daytime staple, makeovers. She performed the usual "spontaneous" walk-in on a woman who just happened to have a camera crew in the house at the time. The woman had unfortunate Bugs Bunny teeth that made Kahlen from ANTM S4's look good, but the rest of her was conveniently thin, shapely, and tall. All the better to make you over with, my dear. Typrah decided that this woman also had to have lasik surgery, although her glasses really weren't ugly or unflattering and lasik complications can be permanent. Her After teeth bore a marked resemblance to Shannon from ANTM S1's giant choppers, and naturally the dentist got an extended product placement plug. The whole creepy segment had more than a little bit of
The Swan in it.
Next up was another highly staged segment at the DMV, showing women how to pose better for their pictures. Nothing helps that DMV line move along like Typrah directing a photo shoot and demanding multiple takes per woman. Typrah is so secure with herself that only her driver's license shot had her weight--but not her height--blurred out along with the address information; the other women's licenses had unblurred heights and weights.
The removing-the-makeup segment was last and lasted about a minute, broken up by another commercial break. It was overhyped at best.
Typrah is taking herself very seriously and failing to sense the high level of cheese and phoniness in everything she does, as always. About the closest she came to honesty was admitting that her music "career" was a flop. I don't think Oprah's sweating any bullets over this show.

I watched this yesterday and ITA with this. So many of the faces they cut too had major WTF looks on them. Most of them didn't look like they believed anything that came out of Tyra's mouth.
I have to admit that I want to like this show. But all the crying and Oprah moments seem almost fake or forced. Tyra cries at the drop of a hat and it just doesn't seem real. I'm willing to give it a shot because she does seem to play up the whole self esteem is important for young girls thing.
I hate the runway thing though.

But she still has a hair weave! And an eyelash weave. And the technician can be paid off.
Look, being a "full-figured" gal myself, her boobs are probably be real, but the attitude ain't. I've seen parts of the show and I see it going two seasons because she'll pull young and that's what the advertisers want and there is not a lot of product out there which is why they're giving shows away to anyone that comes along or has a blog or column read by 50 people.
I had no idea that she grew up wealthy, but this greatly disturbs me if she's perpetuating a fake "ghetto baby" story because, well, don't all black people grow up poor and live in raggedy houses? What would happen if a black entertainer actually grew up middle class from 1950 until current? How would the world survive this horrid reality?
I'm being sarcastic in my delivery, but not in my point: stop pimping and romanticizing race and poverty. There's nothing any of us can do about our childhood. We're stuck with whatever we get. But your adulthood is a different matter and Tyra ain't po' now. Like I'm supposed to watch a show regularly just because the host was "poor and strugglin'" and "pulled themselves up"?

But Tyra had a bad sibling rivalry as described on the Oprah show.
Devon is Tyra's older brother. When they were kids, Devon tormented Tyra because she was "daddy's little girl" and could do no wrong. His mission was to belittle her and make her cry. Devon would eat her food at the dinner table, make her do his chores, and called her names like "Jughead" and "Bag of Bones." This lasted for years, and got so vicious that Tyra was afraid to be home alone with her brother.
As adults, their rivalry came to a head on a family trip. Devon demeaned Tyra in front of their family. As they were both yelling, crying, and feeling hurt, Devon finally realized that he was treating Tyra like the little girl she once was, and not the independent woman that she is today. They talked about their problems, realized why they fought, and worked on their friendship. They are now so happy and proud to call each other brother and sister.
Tyra and Devon want to encourage other siblings who are fighting to become friends. If you are at odds with members of your family, try to imagine your life without them. Tyra and Devon are certain you'll realize how important it is not to let your rivalries come between you.

Typrah's got to do something to pretend to be relatable to ordinary people. Today was the body image/eating disorders episode, and it wasn't terribly convincing to have Typrah, whose body image struggles revolve around whether she's better looking than 99.999% of women this week or only 99.99%, giving a pep talk about "You're beautiful, girl!" The audience again looked bored, as was I.
The best part today came at the end of the show, when Typrah was blinking repeatedly and looking old and tired--in her second episode!--as she gazed into the camera, all in a manner amusingly reminiscent of Sandra Lee's outdoor episodes. Again this hour show was more like 57 minutes, with local commercials before and after taking up the slack time that Typrah's producers evidently can't sell.

My favorite part in yesterday's show was when she had a teenager on who thought she was fat even though she really wasn't. Tyra wanted to prove to her that even though this girl wanted to be like Tyra that she wasn't all that skinny herself. Tyra lifts up her shirt to expose her "belly". Except I didn't really see any belly. Yeah, there was a teeny bit of excess there but it was still a pretty nice midsection. Just what exactly did this prove?
The craziest thing with the story of that teenager was how concerned her mom was for her and how her mom couldn't understand why her daughter was fat...until it's revealed that her mom "jokingly" tells her daughter all the time that she's fat and ugly and has bad teeth. *sigh*
