Count me in the group who thought it was just plain cree pee for Bridget to do the strip tease in front of her stepdad. Didn't she aspire to be in Playboy from age five? From seeing her father's (stepfather's?) Playboys around the house? I am pretty certain my dad never had Playboys because he was a pretty big hippie, and a bit of a feminist, but if he did, geez! He wouldn't have left them where five-year-old Oiselle could find them! I think their household must have had strange sexual boundaries.

Holly also referenced her father's favorite playmate at one point in time. I don't even know what actress my father finds most attractive! And I will never ask! Is this normal dinner-time conversation I missed out on as a child?

At least the G'sND claim their love for Hef as their reason for playing the game. It makes the show a bit more tolerable for me.

I'm not a fan of the porn industry in general. However, I find it interesting that people are theorizing that because the father is proud of the daughter, he must have molested her himself. I'm not seeing the connection. For all we know, every woman in porn was molested as a child regardless of whether they're estranged from their families now. The level of support from the families to me do not indicate what happened to her sexually as a child. There will always be women in porn; I'd rather they have support from their families than be abandoned by them, thus leaving them dangerously looking for their sole emotional support in the porn industry.

I was repulsed by watching Sunny Lane and her parents. She lied, said she didn't turn tricks at the bunny Ranch, and acted like she was doing something so wonderful, and her parents just sat there thrilled that their daughter is nothing more than a fuck toy and a maturbatory fantasy. They probably make great bank off of her, and that's why they're so thrilled with her 'career'.
The GND at least have the excuse that they live with their boyfriend- not a huge difference, but it's something.

Those cooler-mobiles are awesome! At the World Series parade in October (Go Cards!) the company was there, and the coolers look really fun, not practical, but neat. I think they cost around $500.

I wasn't suggesting that her father molested her. That family dynamic/relationship is just weird.

The thing about Bridget's stepfather is that some posters (including me) felt he enjoyed watching her do a striptease. Someone mentioned him 'practically salivating.' It's possible it was the editing, or that he was reacting that way because he was nervous. But to lots of people it did look like he was getting off on her stripping for him. That's a huge difference between that, and "being supportive". Kendra's mother is the most supportive family member we've seen on the show, and no one has accused her of being abusive. The reason people raised possible molestation was partly because of her obsession with everything to do with childhood (like keeping baby dolls in cribs in her room).

I'm not sure what this other girl has to do with the GND, but there is a difference between pursuing a professional, paid career in the sex industry, and having a sugar daddy. They're famous for who they date rather than their professional lives. I'm not saying one is worse, or that either is bad, but I'm not sure it's possible to make a valid comparison.

Don't forget about that obnoxious baby voice. It's certainly not an exact science, but it's not uncommon for the two to be connected.

Its been awhile since I have seen the episode, but I remember thinking her stepdad didnt exactly know how to react. He didnt seem that comfortable with the cameras even before that scene. I wasnt thinking that he was some nasty perv, I was thinking he was trying to figure out exactly what he was supposed to do right then - stay or go. I just hate the thought of labeling someone as a child molester based on a few seconds of questionable editing.

But I do agree that Bridget has something shaky in her past. When Holly was in her room, they showed a shot of the giant pink armoire by the door to the bathroom(I think its the bathroom). On the floor was a tiny doll sized sofa with teddy bears on it. Between that and the crib, I really wonder what is going on with Bridget.

Two excellent points. I know friends who found their fathers' Playboys as well, even though the fathers thought the magazines were well-hidden. It's been a while since I saw the episode where Bridget talked about wanting to be in Playboy since she was five -- saw the women as beautiful and wanted to look like them, etc -- but IIRC she said the magazines were right out on the coffee table, they weren't hidden or anything.

That doesn't make her stepdad a perv, but it is a questionable decision as far as I'm concerned.

I do think something happened to Bridget to cause her to sexualize childhood the way she does so consistently -- for herself, not for present day children, to be fair -- but I'm not going to say that it was anything her stepdad did that made her that way. But I think someone somewhere did. IMHO. YMMV.

I think there are going to be two types of women who become Hefner girlfriends:

1) The ones with parents are eerily supportive of it all (Bridget's mother and step-father, Kendra's mother and grandmother.)
2) The ones whose parents abandoned and/or abused them, so they don't really care about parental approval (possibly Holly).

I doubt you'll find that many women who had healthy and close relationships with their parents, told their disapproving parents they planned to move in with Hef and then did so anyway.

I have way too much respect for my Dad than to strip tease for America in front of him....and he has too much respect for me to watch if I did. It's just CREEPY.

I guess all along I should have clarified that there is a marked difference between acknowleged support with a general sense of having your parents accept and love you no matter what vs. an out-loud approval and encouragement. I think in about %99.9 of career choices, both sides of the coin would be greatly applauded and appreciated. Again, I'm also wanting to distinguish the difference I see between a naked airbrushed stint in a rather vanilla publication and a out-and-out videotaped orgy for sale. Please know that I'm not advocating parental abandonment when their children make poor choices (crime, occupation, drugs, etc.) and it wasn't my intention in any previous post. But as far as the generality of being a Hefner girlfriend goes.... I just don't get why anybody would choose to share their spouse/significant other. Regardless of Hef/Holly being the 'primary' relationship, it's still strange to me. Different strokes for different folks indeed. Sharing the affections and attention from someone with other people most likely makes the jealousy pot boil over--just no way it doesn't. Yes, they're all consenting adults and acquiesce to the demands of being a 'girlfriend' and are obviously willing partners but come on, I would hope that if the girls had a choice, they would certainly choose an alternate scenario. But, in the end, they're all getting something they want/need from the arrangement and it makes one hell of a show!

Personal story about 'dirty' magazines--I don't remember exactly what year this was but it was when Madonna was in Penthouse--back in her uber-trashy Boy Toy era. (Don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE Madonna fan--always have been. Finally saw her tour this summer and holy shit it was amazing!!!) So, I was with my Dad at a local mini-mart and we were standing at the checkout counter. Dad was paying and casually asks for a copy of the magazine. I guess he assumed that a) I didn't hear him or b) that I didn't know the contents of said magazine. Being a kid, I was mortified and embarrassed as, at that age, everything your parents even THINK about is humiliating. I'm pretty sure I remarked about his purchase immediately and even went running to Mom to tell her what Dad had bought. She didn't think much of it but the thought of my Dad looking at one of my idols naked was mortifying.

As a mother, I'd love to know what was going through your mother's head when you excitedly shared this bit of gossip with her. LOL Nothin' about those conversations in the baby books. Having been on the 'omigod! I can't believe my kid just asked me that!' end of such conversations, it's the first thing that tickled me about your story. My little boy used to come home and excitedly share with me dirty jokes he'd heard on the playground, and I used to pray that at some point he'd feel weird telling dirty jokes to his mother.

And I agree, parents supporting their children no matter what their choices of lifestyle might be is not the same as actively encouraging your child to become a stripper or porn star. I think it was Dave Chappelle who said a father's entire job is about keeping his daughter off the pole. If he's able to do that, then he's done good. LOL

Some people are polyamorous... however, those relationships generally contain more respect than the one between Hef and the GND.

I lurk this thread, and I was going to make that point. I don't understand how that works exactly, but I've seen some poly relationships work better that non.

However, I don't think Hef is polyamorous, nor are the women. Hefner kept up monogamy pretty well during his marital years. I Holly wants him to herself, Bridget and Kendra aren't in it for the long run.

I don't think the Hef/girlfriends relationship fits within any other paradigm out there. It's too wrapped up in the Playboy label and lifestyle, publicity shots, etc. It is a law unto itself. I just wish the 'girls' had a more adult position within their joint relationship. Her stint at Hooters and as a Hawaiian Tropic model were both in LA. She left Alaska when she was in her early teens, anyway.

I think when there were 7 or 8 GF's, there was DEFINITELY major jealousy among the girls, as most of us have read, but this just may be a mix where there isn't. There's no way Kendra has any sexual feelings for Hef, and outside of her anal duties, I think she just enjoys what living in the PB mansion has to offer. Whether or not Bridget feels real lust and love for Hef, is hard to gauge, but I think she's completely under Holly's rule, and would never do anything to mess that up. Holly is his one and only in this pack, and she made sure it stays that way, hence why there's only 2 other girls, neither of which is any threat to her relationship with Puffin'.

I have no idea whether Hef's brother works but this reminded me: My mother-in-law went to highschool (in the Chicago area) with both Hef and his brother. Hef was a few years older than her but she did once go on a double-date with Hef's brother. Crazy, huh?

I thought the real story was that her friend got her on the list, and then her friend who was a girlfriend had to cry and beg and tell Hef that Holly was homeless to get her moved in. I don't think Hef had any infatuation with her whatsoever in the beginning. There are also stories, in Izabella's book and elsewhere, of him constantly criticizing Holly's hair and make-up choices back in the day.

To the poster upthread, agreed- Holly's laugh sounds really forced especially at the restaurant scene. She kind of titters with a forced smile. I hate that. It's more convincing and charming just to do nothing. IMO it's poised and composed rather than insincere.
In the interviews/commentary for the girls you can tell when they're prompted or false because they (especially Kendra) will look to the side before speaking then back at the camera.
Hef was cute on the scooter. Mary (his personal secretary) was exaperated with him, "You or the girls can use it or not!" turns away. They're like an old married couple a bit.
