Newbie here. I have been reading everything and am impressed! Thank you to Natalie who read the book and gave us a recap. I watch the show, but think that it is all about marketing and nothing more. I think that when you live with an old man who pays you for being there, its prostitution plain and simple!

She says that the girls had no confidentiality contract. Hef is displeased about the book, but didn't try to block its publication or anything.
This actually surprises me. I would think being such a control freak, Hef would have them sign paperwork out the wahzoo so they can't write a book like this. Who knows? Maybe he thinks it makes him look like a stud or something.

This is true...and I never thought of it that way. I just wonder why we never hear anything from any of the other exes. It just seems odd, unless they are embarrassed by the whole thing and just want to forget it ever happened and move on with their lives/careers.

Bridget used to be a stripper at the Spearomint Rhino and Kendra was also a stripper at Cheetah's I believe.
I too am shocked that there is no formal contract that the girls have to sign before they step into the Mansion. Hmm there has to be a lot of un-written rules and what not. I wonder how much Hef's salary is? It would be really funny to know that Christie holds the purse strings and gives dear old dad a set allowance so we doesn't waste her inheritence on the "Whores Nexxt Door!"

Well,I think up until the last few years the press has respected celebrity secrets-I am not sure girls before thought their side would be believed, or like you said they would embarassed to be known as basically hookers. Or Hugh was their sole means of post girlfriend support or their husbands objected. I would love to know why myself,if any former GF's are surfing here.

I would love a tell all book written by Barbi Benton. Now that is a book worth reading with all the history she witnessed. I especially enjoyed the episode where Barbi can back to the Mansion and started dissing Hef's new girls and Holly didn't look too happy that his old flame was back. That episode really showed how insecure Holly and Bridget are.
I wonder too why more of his "girlfriends" haven't come out of the closet and written books?

My first thought was that they were wearing school colors.
I think that Kendra's closing dialogue has to be the most we've ever heard of her "deep thoughts." However, as some have expressed earlier, I found some of the stuff about Hef saving her is a little uncomfortable.

I pick up amused tolerence when Holly discusses Kendra, but she is pretty dismissive about Bridget. I defintely don't think she feels either one is as intelligent as her or is really competition-this has been painfully clear this year.
I think the reason Holly tolerates Bridget, and especially Kendra, is
because she knows they're no competition for her. If either one of them were trying to be #1 Girlfriend I'm pretty sure Holly would manipulate things so that the competition would be kicked out of the harem.

In watching this episode for a second time last night, I have to say, that "cutoff mumu" as CrazyMacy called it, was not flattering at all. It made her look odd, and with those knee socks, I was like, WTF?
Anyway, the part about Hef trying to "steal" the videos was creepy. He saw them once, how many times do you really want to watch old (or not-so-old) home videos? Why would he want to take them from her family like that. It gave me the heebie-jeebies.
Holly was definitely getting snarky about Kendra. How many times did she mention that Kendra "wasn't really from the 'hood"? And she said it in a pretending-to-be-funny-yet-condescending way that I found really annoying.
I actually felt kind of bad for Kendra and her mom at the end. It was as if she couldn't do a good enough job raising her daughter so Hef had to "save" her. I thought it also appeared that Kendra was genuinely heartbroken to leave her family and friends to go back to the confines of the mansion. It seemed like she was almost doing this more out of necessity than anything else.
And word to the poster who commented on the gross-factor of Kendra's mom volunteering to be one of Hef's girlfriends.

Now it makes sense why Kendra likes to live with Hef. She didn't have a dad and Hef has given her structure in her life. Her mom was a single mother and probably was too tired or stressed out to really be there for Kendra. Her mother seemed very flaky not knowing how to do anything.
How did she get away with never cooking for her kids? It always amazes me that people who have kids don't know how to take care of them properly and keep on having more and more.
I hate those knee sox that Holly wears. It looks like she is trying to be 10 again.

The movie is called Showgirls...and there's no need to hang your head in shame; it's a classic. Striptease was the Demi Moore atrocity from the same time period, it's a diet coke version of Showgirls.
I think Hef secretly likes the tell all books that surface. What good is a legacy if there aren't salacious behind the scenes books to add fuel to the fire? Besides, I don't think she really says anything all that incriminating, and you don't have to be Dr. Ruth to figure out Hef is the visual type. Nothing she said struck me as out of the ordinary.

How did she get away with never cooking for her kids?
I have to come to Kendra's mom's defense. My Mom hated cooking. There were lots of convenience foods; Some-Kind-of-Animal Helper, Frozen tater tots, frozen pizza, hot dogs, Campbell's soup, canned veggies boiled to death, etc. (Oh my gosh -- and the horrible way she used to make grilled cheese! I actually tease her about that now!) Lucily Dad wasn't a picky eater. I actually had the same kind of food preferences Kendra has shown when I was as young and skinny; fried food, grease, etc. That's why I think our Moms were kind of similar. My Mom worked from the time I was a middle schooler - and I assume that Kendra's mom worked, too. By the time she went back to work, we kids were old enough to throw together dinner.
I, however, didn't let Chef Boyardee become an excuse to work a pole.

Hi everyone,
i have been reading the boards for quite some time but just now registered to post.
I am wondering, apparently the girls dont get much of an allowance ($4000 a month is it?) to be able to save for after leaving BUT
does anyone know if they were paid for some of the other things they are doing now as a result of their popularity from being stars of their own televeision show:
such as:
- their 2 playboy covers?
- the capt. morgan promo ad
- bridgetts stint guesting on that playboy tv show
i just wonder if they are saving a little for after they leave the mansion. I do think that Bridget and Kendra will be ok when they leave because Bridget has a college education and Kendra has a massage license so she can be an high class erotic masseuse and make ALOT of money, but i dont know what Holly would have to fall back on.
I am just curious if anyone knows if these girls are getting rich as a result of this show and if so why do they even need to live at the mansion still?

I think it depends on who the girls' agent is. If Playboy Inc. is acting as the girls' representative, then the girls probably don't receive much of a bonus for their outside work. Certainly they can be considered employees of Playboy and covers and television shows within the Playboy empire aren't going to merit as much for a Whore Next Door as the would for a nonattached whore.

I'm delurking to say that Cheetah's was actually a real club in Las Vegas (I've a native) until a few years ago. The owner, Mike Galardi, was busted for paying off county commissioners and bribing them with girls to have sex with at the club. It was huge story for a few years, and it was dubbed as "Operation G-Sting" by the press. He also owned the Cheetah's San Diego club where Kendra danced. It doesn't surprise me that she worked at such a shady club. I'm sure there was lots of drugs and prostitution going on behind the scenes.

Its been established Hef's daughter runs the company and holds the pursestrings, Hef is probably on an allowance (albiet a generous one, I can't see him living like poor Brooke Astor or anything.)
Kendra was a druggie until Hef saved her from her life of stripping and drugging and hanging out with the wrong crowd.
Figured as much. Which is sad, because she'll return to that life after her time in the spotlight is over (or maybe even during.) Depending on someone else to "save" you and make sure you don't go down the wrong path is a recipe for disaster, especially when said savior is a borderline-pedophile pornographer with a notorious reputation for trading in for a younger model(s).

On the show you see a lot of male celebrities at the parties, mostly athletes/actors. I assume it's OK for male celebrities to be there for the notariety, but not "average Joe" guys to come as dates of the invited girls.
That being said, it is obvious that there are WAY more girls there than guys. I guess Hugh wants to keep the girl : guy ratio high to keep up the Playboy illusion.
I wonder how much money E is paying the girls to do TGND or is Hef getting most of it?
This is a great question! I would assume that each of the girls would get a certain amount, maybe Holly gets more since she's the "#1", and Hef probably gets a certain amount, and Playboy Enterprises probably gets some too, since a lot of the show deals with the magazine. escapetochg, that is an excellent website. Thanks!
I would really like to read Barbi Benton's book is she were to write one. It seems like she would've done so by now, but I'll bet she has some great stories. I think she was one of Hef's big loves, and I enjoyed her visit last season. Remember the snarky comment she made about the pool table getting "a lot of action." I was quite amused at the bitchy horror on Holly's face.
I think Bridget is probably 32 and it not lying about her age. I have known many women who looked much older than their years, and it was usually due to sun damage. I have a good friend who is 40 and continues to go to tan beds and her skin is fried, although she is a very pretty woman. I've been nagging her for years to quit tanning. I grew up in Alaska and saw very little sun, and I think the upside of that is I've heard for years that I look younger than I am (although I've also been told I'm "pale" and "should get some sun," so pick your poison). In fact, I have a friend who is only 25 and she had her first Botox injection at 24, mainly because of sun damage.
Was it my imagination or was Kendra's mom's laugh almost as stupid as Kendra's? Did anyone else notice?
I am ashamed to admit that I am seriously considering surfing ebay for Bunny Tales. Maybe someone has already read it and is ready to sell. This is what I have become.
About the baby oil: hasn't Hef ever heard of KY? They make that stuff to prevent the yeast infections that other junk might cause. Helllooooooooooo Hef! You'd think he'd know this by now. The man obviously has a Viagra supplier.

ITA with cedar7... given how Hef/Playboy have made their money by exploiting women (like $4k for a photo shoot that nets the company hundreds of thousands (I have no actual idea of the numbers so please correct me)), do we really think that the girls would be allowed any significant money for this?
What a catch-22: they can only make money independently, but as soon as they leave the mansion, their worth drops to zero in the sea of (prettier and talented) women in LA.
