I was pleasantly surprised this week by Kelly she was very good in both dances and I think she did rather well. And like the judges said she showed A LOT of improvement particularly in the waltz because it never looked like Alec was dragging her around.
My favorite of the V. Waltz' was John and Charlotte for obvious reasons. But, what the hell was Charlotte wearing during the samba? Truly that was one of the ugliest dresses.

Thoughts....
Kelly actually impressed me this week. I thought she did a great job, and managed to hold her composure and remember her steps, even as her dress strap broke. (That said, the same costume came popping out from under her Viennese Waltz dress in the last number. I guess it was bound and determined to be the star of the show tonight.)
Joey, I thought, was wonderful. He DID move his hips, and their routine had a lot of complexity to it, for something just thrown together. I did not, however, see the issue with the waltz. Of course, that's primarily because the freakin' coverage didn't show us anyone but the featured couple. It seems to me that the male judges are just bound and determined to hate him no matter what he does.
John, while always entertaining, was definitely the weakest male on the samba. His hips did move a bit, but it just lacked something to me. Their waltz, however, was graceful and gorgeous.
Rachel. So long, flexible posing lady. The samba, I agree, was actually boring at points. It just seemed to lack something. She has grace, but she really seems to lack the flair and flash needed for a dance like this. Their waltz was also extremely boring. She seemed very stiff. I was honestly glad to see her go.

Plus, her partner brought the pretty, more than Joey ever did. I *heart* Jonathan.
Semi-word on that. I heart Joey more (duh) but I hear you on Jonathan being tasty as well. Trista's partner (what's his name) showed up during the explanation of the samba, so we may see him again.

I know I'm a known Joey lover, but COME THE FUCK ON. Joey and Ashly were not bad as all of that.
Maybe Joey and Ashly would have done better with the judges if they started the competition out sucking. Maybe.
Speaking of, I think Kelly and Jon improved, not to the tune of a 26, but they were better. And she did an admirable job with her top that ripped. That said, I find it oddly ironic that one of her costumes that contained the most cloth was the one to rip. Hee.
I'm not sad/happy about Rachel. But she seemed very sweet at the end there. Aw.
Still love John and Charlotte, but the footwork was quite sloppy on his part a few times.

Sorry guys. I think that was the right outcome.. However, I rooted against Rachel because the judges had their noses so far up her butt, it was embarrassing!
Love John and Charlotte and Kelly deserves to stay if, for no other reason, the fact that she kept her top on in the samba! That was hilar, scary and wonderful all at the same time! Not big Joey fan but was glad to see Rachel go....sorry.
That chick host is the WORST! Did she call him John O'Brien???? Yes, I think she did! She needed to go before anyone else!

I for one was glad to see Rachel go. Once again, she posed her way through the entire dance, and still got high marks for it.
Kelly's wardrobe malfunction was too funny, but maybe it wasn't her fault. Didn't I read somewhere that they don't get to pick their own costumes?

I'm glad Rachel and Jonathon were the ones to be booted tonight. While I think overall she's a better dancer than Kelly, tonight Kelly really brought her A game. To my untrained eye it looked like Rachel was mostly posing, which is what Kelly was ripped apart for just a few weeks ago. To have Rachel get the second highest score from the judges didn't make sense to me. Of course, the judging leaves me shaking my head most of the time anyway. The British judge just seemed way to hard on Joey and way to high on Rachel. If I were ranking tonight's couples I probably would have gone Kelly, Joey, John, and then Rachel. She has a lot grace, but there didn't seem to be anything there to me.

So I actually let out a "Yessss!" with an fist pump in the air when they announced Joey and Ashly were safe tonight. This was the exact moment I realized I am way too into this show. That and when I squealed at their kicks during the waltz. They are too cute.
Sorry to see Rachel go over Kelly, who always looks to me like a fish flopping around on land. She needs to stop grabbing her twins, too. Yuck. I'll take pointy posing Rachel over that floundering mess of hair and boobs any day.
AwNutz baby pickles Not that I want to defend Kelly, but she was grabbing the twins because the strap holding the top half of her dress broke about two seconds into the dance number. It was the only way to keep them from popping out and through our screens.
It was a nice save, as I hardly even noticed during the dance, but it went on and on until after the judges gave their scores. She could have been a teensy bit more discreet about it. She wasn't even pulling up the top ... just pushing her boobs. I just don't like her at all. Her dancing looks frantic to me, and she seems like a pill.

Based soley on this week's performance, I don't mind seeing Rachel go. But adding in the past weeks, I would have perfered Kelly to go.
Judges were much to harsh on Joey and Ashly. And I am not a NKOTB fan girl - I was barely walking during their peek.

I thought Rachel did really well last week but stunk this week. All of the women's Samba costumes were bad, but Rachel's - was that a tattoo on her low back or was it something else that made it look like her crack was the size of the Grand Canyon?
I thought Rachel deserved to go, but it was still sad! She was so disappointed. Her goodbyes to the hosts, judges, and co-competitors made for a very classy exit.

Gosh, I felt bad for Rachel at the end--she seemed so sad.
Joey & Ashly: I thought they were pretty good. I enjoyed the energy of their performance. Man, now I sound like one of the judges.
Rachel & Jonathan: I thought they were good too. Maybe it was just me, but I thought it was really slow for a samba. I thought they were really behind the beat of the music. But still, it was nice and she looked really good. He's quite pretty, I must admit.
John & Charlotte: Not their best outing, but she looked excellent. She has incredible legs. I'm jealous.
Kelly & Alec: He looked awful, but they were quite good. She really stepped up her dancing and their routine did seem to be more intricate. But I do not believe they deserved those marks. Maybe 8s. Not 9s.
I was hoping Kelly would go, but I sort of figured Rachel was toast. I honestly believe Bruno's fawning over Rachel was not doing her any favours. I don't think he was being impartial when judging her--he's just lusting after her.
Really loved the Viennese Waltz. I thought J/C were the most elegant. I love Waltzes!

I can't figure out the judges--Carrie Ann gave them all the same mark? (or at least 3 of them). I guess I'm expecting old school figure skating, where you judge based on some sort of "X was better than Y" standard.
That said, the women are getting consistently overmarked, in my view. Joey did much better and had a great line but it's all "Rachel the love goddess" and "Kelly so hot"--yeah, whatever. I saw a lot of posing and not much dancing. The guys have to work harder (I'm sorry, I still liked John and Charlotte's unison on the footwork).
And the waltz would have been better if y'know, hey, Blue Danube? Not like America wouldn't know it. When even your freakin' host is making jokes about the crappy pop songs, it's time to get rid of them.

As much as I like Joey and Ashly I really thought they were going to be eliminated tonight. I'm sorry to see Rachel go, but at this point, I'm pretty much rooting for everyone (except maybe Kelly) so it's going to suck no matter who leaves.
And Rachel was so sad. I think she wanted to be there more than anyone. It was nice to see her call the others up onto the stage too. It showed a lot of class, as did Charlotte smiling in the background about Kelly's scores.

I am soooo glad Rachel's gone. I noticed at least 4 mistakes in her dance, and I don't even know that much about samba/ballroom. Yet the judges kept giving tongue bath after tongue bath. Rachel's very sweet, and I know she wanted it, but I was really sick of the judges fawning all over her and picking apart people who made lesser mistakes.
Kelly really has improved, and did an excellent job preventing a wardrobe malfuction.
I don't care if Joey's style is loose - he's adorable!

I think John and Charlotte are the class of this bunch. I hope they're not Bo-Biced. Even when they have an off night I think they're better than the others.
I thought Rachel and Jonathan were really good this week, too bad it was too late. Rachel really has seemed to put all she had into it.
Joey/Ashly - okay. Good enough to last - though I think Kelly/Alec and John/Charlotte will be the last team standings.
If anyone's dress had to slip I would prefer it to be Kelly Monaco's (so said the shallow hetero male) and I give kudos to her for the quick recovery. But strangely enough for such a beautiful woman - she's the female left (counting Rachel as well) that exudes the least sex appeal. Maybe its the dresses she's picking? They just don't look good on her (at least to me) or maybe because everytime I see the pre-dance promos I say to myself, "Kelly seems nice and intelligent, why the heck is she working on crap like GH". I think my General Hospital biases are affecting my opinion.

Jun 22, 2005 @ 9:31 pm
I feel a bit conflicted about the results. I definitely wanted Rachel to go, but I can't decide if I'm being fair about that. I haven't loved any of her performances except the tango and was extremely annoyed at the Bruno love fest week after week (particularly week 1 and this week). She clearly does work hard and has, in my opinion, the best lines and extensions of any of the celebs, but I never feel anything from either her or her partner. So I don't know if my ambivalence towards her is deserved or if it is more due to annoyance at the judges. Either way though, I do like the other three couples better, so I was hoping she would go. Which I guess is the bottom line.
As for the dances tonight:
Can it be that Kelly is actually my favorite now? I would never have guessed that earlier in the competition. She seems to be listening to the judges and really trying to bring her level of dancing up--and clearly, I think she has. I like her attitude and her admission that even a woman who's largely viewed as beautiful and sexy can at times feel like a stump. I think she's really charming and I hope they stick around until the final two.
Joey and Ashley--I actually liked their Samba second best. Clearly the judges and I are looking at different things. I felt like of all the stars, only he and Kelly had good smooth hip movement. His dancing appears to be getting much crisper to me as the weeks go by and he did (as at least Bruno pointed out) have a good latin stance.
John and Charlotte--Not my favorite performance of theirs. Clearly it suited neither of their strong points. They're classy and smooth, not sassy and rhythmic, and that to me showed tonight. Still, I do think they have the best chemistry and the feeling I get that they are having fun allows me to enjoy what they're doing no matter what.
Jonathan and Rachel--I liked their samba the least. To be fair, they were saddled with the absolute worst music. Austin Powers music? Seriously, TPTB, you can't do better than Austin Powers? Yoy. They to me had the most obvious fumbles, it was kind of dull and overall somewhat brittle. I don't know. I know a lot of people on this board love Jonathan, but I actually think my problem with Rachel isn't her so much as him. He kind of seems to have this kind of patronizing aura about him all the time.
I can't really judge the waltz because we didn't see them traveling very much, only doing their spotlight routine. From what I saw, I liked J&C best, then K&A, with R&J and J&A tied for third. I liked John's lift of Charlotte in the spotlight anyway. And Kelly seems a thousand times more smooth than a few weeks ago.

I was pretty sure that John and Charlotte were going to be the next to go, which depressed me enormously, as I enjoy them more than any other team. But I was surprised at how disappointed I was to see Rachel and Jonathan go. And did you notice that no one bothered with even a pretense of a 'last dance'? They all just gathered around to hug Rachel and Jonathan...
I enjoy Joey and Ashly and think he puts a lot of effort and energy into his dances, but there seems to be an odd disconnect between them on the floor, and also between their moves and the actual dance they were supposed to be doing.
I think Kelly has improved, and is clearly working hard, but I don't think she's very good. She just doesn't seem to have a certain something that goes into being a 'dancer'. I'm not anti-Kelly - I used to really like her on Port Charles, and I think she's pretty and appealing when she isn't being used as a human blow-up doll on GH - but I'm amazed that she's still in the competition.
I thought John and Charlotte were best at the waltz and Rachel and Jonathan were best at the samba. And I do not understand how Rachel and Jonathan, who went into this week with the #1 position in the judges' voting, could be voted out tonight. I thought I understood the voting system. I thought I understood ballroom dancing...

I think what happens is that the fan voting from last week is combined with the judges scoring from this week. So last week when Rachel was #1, that counted to keep her in last week. This week, she was #2 in judges scoring. And she got 3 points. Joey was last among the judges, so he gets 1 point. Kelly got 4 points. Peterman got 2 points.
So..... assuming internet voting.... if Rachel got the least votes (for one point), then Joey needed to be second in voting (for 3 points). Since ties are broken by viewers vote. Really? I can't see how Joey could finish second in voting.

I guess seeing Rachel go is the price I pay with having a celebrity contest yank Trista Reyn at the start. I guess I can live with it. Still sorry to see her go over Kelly or Joey. Joey seems charming, but neither do much for me as dancers. joey should be on Cheerleading with the Stars and i might be on board. Kelly just looks like a bitch even when she is smiling. So I just want her gone.
I knew that when it came down to Rachel versus John, John was staying. No way john was losing on fan votes. I hope this popularity combined with judges favor enables them to outlast the gooey votes no doubt coming from the same type of people that cheer the music when it starts to play. I keep looking to see if Elvis suddenly popped up on stage when they start dancing and the audience just goes into raptures when a Enrique Iglesias tune performed by the stylings of the Fabtones starts to play.

Yes my girl Kelly is still here. I am really proud of her. She did those spins like nobody's business even though I know she wanted to throw up afterwards cause of the nausea. Great cover of the wardrobe malfunction.
I really didn't care that the other contestants finally got chewed out cause the judges had been using Kelly as their personal punching bag. Like I said earlier if they are going to be brutal to Kelly they should spread that shit around.
Soap fans are keeping her in it but don't be fooled into thinking they are the only ones. Kelly has fans from her Playboy days, Howard Stern talks about her alot and she is getting great media coverage. She has a chance to seriously be in the final 2.

One of the posters on here said they DO NOT pick their own costumes. I hope the producers change that for the next season, as I find the costumes really ugly.

From my math (which, frankly, could be very wrong) this is how I think the voting went (this is based on the fact that Joey and Ashley were in the top two and Rachel and Jonathan were voted out)
Couple: Judges Ranking Points + Voting points = total
Kelly and Alec: 4 (1st) + 4(1st) = 8
Joey and Ashley: 1 (4th) + 3(2nd) = 4
John and Charlotte: 2 (3rd) + 2(3rd) = 4
Rachel and Jonathan: 3 (2nd) + 1 (4th) = 4
Although Joey, John and Rachel under this would be tied for total score, Joey is kept from the bottom two because he has the higher # of viewer votes. Likewise, John was safe because he also received more votes than Rachel. It's possible that Joey received the most votes as it wouldn't change John and Rachel's position in the bottom two, but based on Kelly's never having been in the bottom two, I'm guessing that she's been the vote leader all along.

I honestly don't know if I will watch next week. Rachel was robbed!
Me either, I enjoyed watching Rachel's desire to learn and how serious she was taking it. The way they score seems unfair. I would like to see them find a way to improve upon if there is a next season.
I think Ashly's crush on Joey has reached a fever pitch. When he took her home to meet his family, and then later on he called her the boss, I told Mr. helloearth that they are so totally going to have babies.

Kelly did a fantastic job covering the wardrobe malfunction and she's really improved her dancing since the first week. The fangirl in me cheered like crazy when she got her scores. Well done Kelly.
I thought John was terrific, but I guess that's why I don't judge ballroom.
Now that Kelly has brought up her dancing level the judges have decided that Joey is their new punching bag. Those two are so cute together.
I agree with Carrie Ann - Rachel was boring. She was too fluid on a dance that needed to be crisper. Her ballet training hurt her on the samba.
Somehow I think Kelly is going to insist on double stitching on her costumes from now on.

I though Rachel looked beautiful and elegant and sexy. She's always looked the closest to professional of all the "stars" to me. But tonight, she should have brought a little more energy to her samba. It's one thing to project grace and serenity in a waltz, but it seems like the latin dances really need something more. I'll miss her though. She was a pleasure to watch.
I totally caught her "lifting" Kelly too. Very cute.

Although I felt that Kelly should have gone home based on previous dances, I must say that I was rather pleased that she survived tonight. She has been stung by the judges criticism, but also seems to have attempted to make use of it. I know many have complained about her "bitchface" over the first couple of weeks, but I don't know if I would be able to maintain the placid expression of a quiet gentleman after hearing such harsh words when I have worked so hard. I am also inclined to give Kelly credit for working with the potential wardrobe malfunction. She did the majority of their routine while dealing with it and still turned in what I felt was a pretty solid performance. I imagine that her new fan Barbara Walters will talk about her on "The View" again tomorrow as she did last week (although that could lead to Kelly losing the "lactivists" vote).
I believe that John and Charlotte were a bit sloppy on their footwork this week, but I still can't let go of the love.
Edited to ask were Rachel and Jonathan trying to kiss up to Carrie Ann with the music selection since it has been reported this week that she was "Fook Y(o)u" in Austin Powers?

We seem to have quite a few dancers on this thread and I was wondering what they thought of Kelly holding her boob through the dance. What would a professional dancer do? So..... assuming internet voting.... if Rachel got the least votes (for one point), then Joey needed to be second in voting (for 3 points). Since ties are broken by viewers vote. Really? I can't see how Joey could finish second in voting.
I can. Last week, he and Ashly closed the show with an energetic 'theme' dance *and* they finished second last. Combine a crowd-pleasing performance (if you have no knowledge of dance - which I'm betting most viewers don't - it stood out most and was fun to watch) with the sensation of 'vote for them or they're gone'. I'm betting he won the audience vote from last week.
I also suspect Rachel's had the lowest (or second lowest) audience votes every week - and this was the first week the judges weren't able to prop her up enough to keep her in the competition. At Trista's elimination, Rachel was second last despite having the second highest judges' scores (and behind Kelly who had the lowest judges' scores). She may have had more votes than Trista but, mathematically, I don't think she could have had more than anyone else.

Upon TiVo review, Kelly's strap wasn't fastened on her costume from the second she started the dance. I don't think she noticed until the split move when the strap came all the way off and started hanging there.
Also, it could have been tonight that John and Charlotte, Ashly and Joey and Rachel and Jonathan might have all ended up with the exact same overall score (4), but in that scenario, Joey and Ashly were safe because they had the highest viewer vote.

I was actually quite impressed with Kelly this week. Her footing seemed much more sure, and her moves in general were much less sloppy and more tight.
But, I am very sad that Kelly's vast improvement contributed to the booting of Rachel. I loved Rachel and Jonathan's tango last week. Now I wish I had used my one precious vote for Rachel instead of Joey.
I do love Joey and Ashly's energy, but they still need to tighten things up. I guess I am regretting my Joey vote instead of Rachel mainly b/c I don't know if Joey and Ashly have it in them to get much better whereas I would have loved to see Rachel's development continue.
I thought John and Charlotte's samba was the worst tonight. Their strengths really lie in the standard dances as opposed to any dance that requires John to shake his ass.
Despite Kelly's great performance tonight, I would have preferred to see them booted tonight based on everyone's cumulative performances through the weeks.

I was very glad to see Rachel go tonight. Yes, she really seemed to want to do well, but even tonight -- in a dance which didn't provide many opportunities for posing -- there was very little partner dancing. The whole thing was structured so she and her partner were never facing each other, close up, and moving across the floor. Every other couple did that, every week. Rachel? No.
I like Kelly (despite the fact that this does not come naturally to her), but I was really impressed with how she kept her dress up while remembering and executing her choreography. I don't think it was going to come down, but she obviously felt it might and had to improvise.
And I liked their routine, despite the Aquaman costume.
I actually scored Joey and Ashley's dance second best. It was a fun routine and there was hip action. Plus, I thought Joey had stopped flailing around as much. I thought the judges were unfair, especially comparing their reactions to Rachel.
I got my parents to watch tonight, as I'm visiting them, and they loved the cheese. "Why are they using this terrible music?" my mother asked. And when "I've Got You Babe" started for the waltz, my father cracked up and didn't stop laughing till the end of the show. I was muting during the elimination part to explain something and my mother waved me off -- she wanted to hear the results! Heh. Another pair hooked.

Its becoming extremely clear that John struggles on the faster, more dynamic dances. John seems to struggle to move fast enough to both keep up with the dance and get all the steps in crisp. On the dances where he's not trying to play catch-up, such as his waltz, he's very smooth and looks great.
Also, does anyone else think that the steps Joey does seem totally inappropriate for the dance? And not just a single dance, but every dance. Even the waltz they stuck out with that jumpy thing, which seemed way looser than what the other teams tried.
Is that just me no knowing what I'm talking about?

Also, does anyone else think that the steps Joey does seem totally inappropriate for the dance? And not just a single dance, but every dance. Even the waltz they stuck out with that jumpy thing, which seemed way looser than what the other teams tried
No, I can kind of see what you are saying. The thing they did tonight in the waltz reminded me of ice dancing rather than ballroom. I think Joey might want to put more showmanship in and he kind of runs roughshod over Ashly. Ashly is the least experienced pro out there and I don't think she's strict enough with Joey.

Methinks Joey would enjoy a little "Strict Mistress Ashly" as well.
Meeeow!
Sorry. I'm stuck in 7th grade boy mode tonight. Can't. Get. Out.
