I thought Louis' rolled-up pants looked like lederhosen.
BeingNicer
Those were his pant legs rolled up so that Lisa could see his knees and how his legs were moving, much the same way Cheryl did it to Drew later on in the show.
I thought they did it to be funny, silly me.
Svenska Flicka
Okay, I get the explanation about his pants legs being rolled up...but if they'd been rolled up much higher, Louis would be singing Soprano for the rest of his life.

I think Maksim seems quite intriguing. And I like Jonathan Roberts a lot. But my favorite so far is definitely Nick Kosovich.

I rewatched the video so many times of him dancing with Charlotte during last season's Danceoff that I actually got more than a little bewitched, bothered and bewildered during last week's show when hearing him, gasp, blush, speak for the first time.

I thought the choreography of the dance he had done with Charlotte was so incredible, so beautiful. And I think he is doing a great job with Tatum.

I also like this regular guy quality that he seems to have. I can easily picture him sitting around with his friends and talking sports or throwing a football around in the back yard. And then being able to achieve such artistry on the dance floor. Wow!
dreamist
They talked to Kenny and the judges and Bruno was saying that Master Pathetic was the worst.

Funny. I don't recall the judges giving Master P the "worst" score.
DPONGRACZ
Funny. I don't recall the judges giving Master P the "worst" score.

Didn't they? I thought that they (deservedly) were in last place before the audience vote.
MDKNIGHT
I'm pretty sure that Mr P got a score of 12 and that WAS the lowest judge score.
legaleagle44
It was the lowest score, which is why everyone (including Master Pathetic himself) was so shocked to see him advance and Kenny get the boot. It was expected that Master Pathetic would go, and that it would more than likely be Kenny's turn this week (although something tells me that Kenny might have brought more of an "A" game with the Quickstep this week--I just had that sense that he would have taken the judges' comments to heart, and worked his ass off to improve this week.)
ziglettospal
It was the viewer's votes who saved Master P. Or maybe they were saving Ashly -- someone told me about a "Save Ashly" campaign going on over on another board. I know I sound horrible but I'm actually looking forward to the Master P Quickstep Meltdown Extravaganza. The weird thing is that there's also a tiny part of me that is hoping that somehow he sees the light and shows us some clean simple basics that show that he was actually trying. But I'm still mostly leaning toward d-i-s-a-s-t-e-r. I think I'd better vote this time -- I don't want Tia getting kicked out just yet.
I think Maksim seems quite intriguing.

Here's a bit of trivia: Tony Dovliani (that's Stacy's Pro, right?) is now dancing in pro competitions with Max's ex-partner.
But my favorite so far is definitely Nick Kosovich.

Nick is sooooo talented. He and his wife Lena also have a women's costume design business, and reportedly did the men's tailoring for DwtS1. Also (I think I mentioned this before) way back when he was still living in Australia his dance partner was the woman who went on to play "Tina Sparkle" in "Strictly Ballroom."

It's a small world!
barkley
While I think Ashly is as cute as a button, if P doesn't improve or even try, they shouldn't go any further in the competition.

Even Kelly, who had the worst score in the first week came back and at least showed that she cared about being there and greatly improved her dancing from week to week.
Hisurfer
Ashly seemed to go so easy on Master P. I don't get understand why. All the other pro's were pushing their celebrity hard. She - and everyone else - let him off so easy. He scored a four from each judge for standing there. He deserved a score of one. If that.
Dandesun
I think my favorite pros are definitely Nick, Anna and Louis. I don't much care for Tatum but I'll suffer through her to get more Nick. I think Louis and Lisa are the cutest girlfriends ever (and still love Harry's enthusiasm in the audience.) And, yes -- straight girl talking here -- I just want to see Anna shake her moneymaker (and put Jerry Rice, famed for his work ethic in football, through the wringer. I like Jerry but I get a kick out of watching Anna put him through his paces. Part of me kind of hopes she'll make him cry) in her skimpy skimpy outfits.

And I look forward to seeing Cheryl and Drew. I think I've rewatched their cha-cha-cha about thirty times. So much fun!
katisha66
I saw a tiny bit of the show The View last night and they featured a few clips from the first episode of DWTS. Gotta agree with the majority of you in saying HOW the hell did Master P survive this week? He made some of our own shockers on the Australian version of the show seem like Fred Astaire by comparison! And I'm loving the campness of George Hamilton.

Katisha66, check out the clips from the various and sundry websites such as this one, and you'll really be even more amazed that the viewers gave him a pass over Kenny Mayne (although the prevailing theory is that we felt sorry for Master Pathetic's pro partner, Ashly DelGrasso, and the votes were really for her sake, not his.) Dicko would have kicked Master Pathetic's ass--right after tearing him a new one just for his poor attitude!
katisha66
legaleagle44, thanks for the tip. I can't access the clips from the site you linked to - is there one that's more WMP-friendly?

And as for what our judges would have said to Master P(athetic), I think Todd would have given him 1 point out of 10, for sure. If body language counts for anything, he looked like he did not want to be there, at all.
BeingNicer

How hard could she push him he only showed up for ONE practice.?
Andreanne
Besides, he threatened to break her fingers!
barkley
Even Bruno and Len would have given P much lower numbers if this had been the British version. I saw one of the episodes online (the first of that particular season) and some of those guys were miles above what P did and I saw scores of 2, and with MUCH harsher criticism.
MsDeacon
This article from Celebrity Spider via Sirlinksalot makes me give Master P another chance. Maybe he filled in figuring he'd be the first to go, so it wasn't a priority. His Katrina talk doesn't seem to be just talk as mentioned below.

And he's only 38?

Rapper Master P is astounded he's still in the running to win US TV dance contest Dancing With the Stars after having just three days to prepare for his first performance.

While ballroom rivals including George Hamilton and Tatum O'Neal had a whole month to practice for the show's debut on Thursday night (05JAN06), the rap mogul - real name Percy Miller - was called in at the last moment after his injured son Lil' Romeo was forced to pull out.

His poor cha cha cha performance earned the 38-year-old the lowest marks from the show's judges, but Miller believes his efforts in helping the victims of Hurricane Katrina in his native New Orleans, Louisiana, paid off.

The rapper has dedicated his turn on the reality show to those who lost their lives in the August (05) storm.

He says, "I think all the Hurricane Katrina victims got phones and computers and they must have called in and faxed in for me."

And now the rapper, who is currently taking care of 2,000 homeless families through his Team Rescue One charity organization, is keen to get serious about his dancing efforts.

He adds, "I want to do my part. Sometime I'm like I don't know what I'm doing out here."

I think he could have had more than 3 days if he'd have showed up for the other practices. Still. Let's see him quickstep.

Edited after reading upthread. I believe Louis is the gayest gay that every gayed, making Trista's concerns even sillier. I believe this came up on a dancesport DWTs message board where they know all the pros and don't know the celebrities. IIRC Louis is also famous for going through partners like confetti - he's got the "something better coming through the door" syndrome. I loved the shorts get-up. Go him.
ziglettospal
I believe that one of Louis' ex-partners, Julie Fryer (with whom he won a world championship), is currently on the Dutch version of "Dancing with the Stars." He's had at least four other dance partners between 1999 and 2003. Here's a list of them, and if you click on each couple's name, you might find some pictures of them dancing.

I mentioned something about Max upthread, so here's similar information on him. And a picture of DwtS2's Tony posing and dancing with his current partner Elena Grinenko, who is one of Max's old partners.

(Edited to add linkage.)
Lisetta
Interesting spin in that Celebrity Spider article, MsDeacon. I don't know why we can't seem to get a straight set of facts about P and his practice for this show, though. At least it will be easy to see if he's just talk. If he really makes an obvious effort this week, I bet most people will give him another chance. If not, I expect he'll be (rightly) gone on Friday.
bornonce
I originally thought that Stacy would have the best chance, but after seeig her pro partner I know have my doubts. He may be a Rhythm champion, but his Smooth choreography and style was only marginal, and he is not a good match for Stacy, who really needed to be paired with Nick.

I haven't seen Nick's Latin yet, but whoever he partner's with in Smooth or Ballroom is likely to win those dances. (Tatum must have been born under a lucky star). Maybe if Nick's Latin or Rhythm really suck (thus, so will Tatum's) that can be an equalizer. Otherwise, Tatum might win this by default.

Drew has a lot of potential, and if he listens and works hard he might surprize a lot of people. I really don't see any current female pro with the knowledge, experience, and teaching skills of Charlotte, however.
MDKNIGHT
After rewatching I like Lisa Rinna's waltz even more than I did before. First go round I was distracted giggling at Miss Collagen dancing to You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman. Second go round I could appreciate that it really was beautiful especially that spin move. I hope both she and Tia stick around for a while.

ETA I just saw the dance exhibition part that I missed when I was late for the results show on Raphael's site. Am I right in thinking that Jonathan, the loveable female KGB agent and everybody else dancing to Mack the Knife were doing the quickstep while Louis Ashley and everybody else who danced first were doing the Rhumba? That's my guess from watching last season but that is the sum total of my exposure to ballroom.

And speaking of Charlotte does anybody know how she's doing? I was a big fan of her work and hope she's OK not being on this season.
parsleysage
I know I sound horrible but I'm actually looking forward to the Master P Quickstep Meltdown Extravaganza.
Oy Vay, the dreaded M.P.Q.M.E. Shouldn't there be a vaccination available for that syndrome??
And speaking of Charlotte does anybody know how she's doing?
If you rent Mad Hot Ballroom (which anyone on this thread automatically should) she is one of the grade school kid's judges at the end of the movie. So is Ann Reinking, Fosse's muse. Fortunately, Charlotte doesn't hang adoringly off any of the kid's arms.
FormerOlympian
I'm not surprised Kelly declined to be co-host. After her treatment last year, I hope she told them what they could do with their offer.

Is it just me, or does Jonathan's head seem a bit large for his body? Also, I'm hoping we get more footage this week of Anna berating Jerry in practice. I still laugh over her "cookie" comment.
BeingNicer

I think his hair is too big for his head.

Yes, they did exhibitions for both of next week's dances.

I know I sound horrible but I'm actually looking forward to the Master P Quickstep Meltdown Extravaganza.

Even though I feel guilty about Ashly, I'm a fellow horrible. It will be epic.

I'm not surprised Kelly declined to be co-host. After her treatment last year, I hope she told them what they could do with their offer.

Her hearing problems would also make co-hosting a live show pretty stressful for her.

I think it's the Frankenstein haircut.
Svenska Flicka
I think I'd better vote this time

Me, too!

Yes, Jonathan's haircut is NOT a great look for him, IMO. It isn't a good cut on many people, for that matter. Much too harsh.

After rewatching I like Lisa Rinna's waltz even more than I did before. First go round I was distracted giggling at Miss Collagen dancing to You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman.

BWAH!!! I never even noticed that. It's pretty funny, even though it seems that I'm one of the few who don't think she's had any work done (not on her lips, anyway) because I remember watching her on a soap many years ago & her lips looked exactly the same way! I don't even remember what soap it was, but I think she became possessed? And, no, I don't mean in a 'bondage' way! Heh.

Can't wait for the show tonight!
And all I can say is that if Tia or Jerry (or anyone else, for that matter) goes home before MasterPathetic, it will be a travesty. A travesty, I tell ya!
MysteriousKitty
The shows on tonight? I thought it was on Thursday nights.
AwNutz
Svenska Flicka She was on Days of Our Lives.
lulee
Isn't it on ABC? It can't be on tonight. Tonight is a 1 hour recap Lost, then a new Lost, then Invasion. It has to be on Thursday.
MysteriousKitty
Yes it's on ABC. I thought it was on Thursday as well.
legaleagle44
Relax, peeps; the show airs on Thursday nights, with the results show on Fridays.

Oh, and to answer MDKNIGHT's question, Charlotte is doing just fine. She's currently busy serving as one of the judges for a rather prestigious dancesport competition in NYC, and she and John O'Hurley just did an instructional-dance DVD which is supposed to be coming out next month. John, of course, is now busy getting ready to play Billy on Broadway in "Chicago"--how cool is that?
DuchessKitty
And all I can say is that if Tia or Jerry (or anyone else, for that matter) goes home before MasterPathetic, it will be a travesty.
ITA. Even if P shows improvement in both attitude and style, he doesn't deserve to be there over any of the other contestants.

And I don't care what anyone says - I still love me some Johnathan and his big square hair.
BeingNicer
I still love me some Johnathan and his big square hair.
Now I'm going to giggle all day, square hair, what a hoot.
Livia52001
Even Ashly's diehard fans will find it hard to justify voting for her and "P" if he doesn't shape up a little. Plus, I think that keeping him in would so piss off the other celebs early in the season if they all do better than him. Ashly is a sweet girl, but she really has to discipline her partners. She was a bit lax on Joey last season too.
Svenska Flicka
Sorry to cause a panic, folks! I really thought the show was on tonight. I'm actually glad to hear that I'm wrong, because tomorrow night's a better night for me to leave work early & vegetate on the couch watching this!

Anyway, I think that the pro dancers have to have someone who is WILLING to shape up, or all their efforts won't amount to much regardless of what they do/don't do. I seriously doubt that it would matter who MasterPathetic's coach/partner was here, he'd cling to his unwillingness to put any effort in.

Okay, here's a theory that hadn't occured to me. A friend of ours (who is black) commented that he thought MasterP was being overly proud, perhaps, and unwilling to be seen as "dancing for whitey". He thought that if this was an event with music/style of dance more akin to what MasterPathetic was accustomed, and sponsored by blacks he had relationships with & didn't feel he had to Alpha to, that perhaps things would be different. But in this situation, his pride just won't allow him to do anything other than what we've seen.

So, anyway...not my theory, but it's an interesting one. And I thought I'd toss it out there for digestion/discussion!
BeingNicer
Ashly is a sweet girl, but she really has to discipline her partners.

How do you disipline someone who showed up for ONE practice? Seriously?

From the Salt Lake Tribune as posted on the ABC site.

But it's professional dancer Delgrosso who may have the most difficult time with her partner, hip-hop producer and singer Master P, who was a last-minute replacement when his son, rapper Romeo, bowed out.
"I can't lie about that. I am worried. But I also have a lot of faith," Delgrosso said about her partner missing most practices two weeks before the show's live premiere. "A lot of [other dancers] started before Thanksgiving, and they're done with their first piece and on to their second and possibly third piece. I'm not even halfway with the cha cha [the show's first dance] yet."
After the two met, Delgrosso said she practiced only once with the music performer, who has been busy producing music and making a film.
"It has been an adventure for me and a learning experience," she said with a laugh. "It's teaching me patience. It's teaching me that I can't really force someone to practice if they don't want to."
MsDeacon
Well, if Master P doesn't want to dance in this kind of show, why did he even volunteer to do it? It seems weird to volunteer yourself, then opt out.
bmtwkoutwithme
Last season being the first, there was no loyalty to any of the pros, but I'm worried that this season people will begin voting as much for the pro's dance as the star's. Which is probably exactly what happened last week. I almost wish that each week the stars had to draw a name of one of the pros, and that's who they would dance with. That way none of the stars would be eliminated, just some weeks they wouldn't be dancing. I think you would get a true sense of the star's talent and adaptability.

Interesting theory, but I don't think he's likely to get quickstep music that would be "more akin to what MasterPathetic was accustomed [to]." I'm guessing that Nat King Cole doesn't count?

Maybe if he makes it to the samba.
Livia52001
Point well taken about P making only one rehearsal. I still think Ashly has a tendency to be too nice. The fact is, Romeo dropping out was a bad break for her.

On another note, I am glad that the Friday results show is going to be some sort of variety show, with showcasing the pros and inviting old time musicians to perform. Barry Manilow is scheduled for Feb. 3rd.
claire22

I read on the ABC site that Jonathan first became interested in dance after watching Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman. The tango scene. Apparently the theatre was also making some kind of an offer where the movie stub could then be redeemed for one free dance lesson. Jonathan took advantage of it and I guess never looked back.

How can you not love a guy like that?

I wonder if Robert Duvall watches this show. I bet he does. Maybe he'll be interested in checking out the pro-dancers' credentials on the official site, become aware of this story and end up seeking out and becoming friends with Jonathan. That would be so cool if they ended up doing projects together and it could be helpful to Jonathan's career.

Nick is sooooo talented.

I know. I feel supremely privileged watching Nick dance.

Barry Manilow? I am SO there.

IIRC, the 3rd week was Jive and Tango right?

As a matter of fact, Copacabana makes both a good (albeit slow) Samba and an even better Merengue.

I also love the fact that we're going to be seeing the pros evidently doing exhibitions of the following week's dances, which means that we'll get to see who brings the suxy with the Tango and the perky with the Jive on Friday. My money is on Nick for the suxy and Ashly for the perky.
TheMadOptimist
I just wanted to state how much I loved the fact that they have the pro exihibitions this year. Loved last year, but the pro dances help and are great to watch while they show off.

Ashly... I was surprised with how sexy she and Louis were in their dance. She deserved better, but I fully expect her to be eliminated.

I like all of the contestants this year and appreciate their enthusiasm (except P who embarassed me to no end!).
DuchessKitty

Ah! It makes much more sense to me that Romeo was the original choice - young, a dancer (albeit hip-hop) etc.
P doesn't seem to want to be there at all, so maybe there was some kind of contractual obligation or something?

Add me to the list of those that love the pro exhibition dancing on the Friday show. And this is one "Fanilow" that is SUPER excited about Barry performing in a few weeks. Whee!
MysteriousKitty
Barry Mannilow is giong to be on the show!! YAHOO!! I love him and can't wait for this.
clancy25
The hurricane Katrina victims are certainly a worthy cause, but it felt like a cheap ploy for votes when Master P had to mention it in every sentence, especially since it seemed like a substitute for actually trying to compete. Have a fundraising concert, don't join a talent competition you have no intention of taking seriously.
