I love that Lisa made her partner cut off that dreadful ponytail. She said it made him look scary, which it did. I'm rooting for her and Drew. Although what happened to the REALLY good looking guy from 98 degrees?

I too am keeping my fingers crossed for Suxy2 with Maksim!! (Gah, what was I thinking before!)
I saw an ESPN commercial for DWTS with just the sports related stars Jerry, Stacy and Kenny, so I went to their website to look for it. Well, I hope I also found something that will provide lots of snark this season, Kenny Mayne's blog! Plus you know all of the ESPN reporters will be having a field day with this season both on tv and online.:)
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?...ame=mayne_kennyI didn't find the commercial but I did find a couple of preview videos in ESPN Motion. Look under Page 2 and scroll down. Just ignore the ads (hey it's free now), but you do have to have broadband.

In an interview with tvguide.com Lisa talked about her partners unfortunate old hairstyle:
I made him cut his hair. He had this severe, slicked-back hair with a ponytail that didn't go with his angular features and that serious look on his face. I said, "Louis, no wonder you got kicked off. You scare people! You're gonna have to cut your hair. You cannot have longer hair than me because it won't look right." So he cut it and he looks fabulous. No one will recognize him. You need a fresh start!
And Louis talked on the show's website that when they first met she screamed, not just because she was excited but also because of his awful hair!

I think Tia Carrere deserves about a thousand extra bonus points for having the guts to do this show weeks after giving birth. She's a knockout on her worst day, but to go on national TV with the prominent baby weight and post-birth jelly belly (when you're known largely for your beauty) takes backbone.

I think Stacy has crossover appeal. Most viewers will be stunned when they see just how long her legs are tonight. I've met Stacy and she is a sweet young lady and it will show through on camera.
At this point, she's also the favorite for the oddsmakers. PinnacleSports.com, an online betting site, has 2/1 odds on Stacy taking the crown, although I'm a bit worried that Lisa Rinna may get the same soap fan support that helped Kelly Monaco win last year. Below is a link to the odds on a couple of the contestants. Scroll down to the "Notes from All Over" section.
I don't know if Lisa will get the same soap opera support. She has a lot of fans who don't like her and never did.
Wrestling fans are crazy obsessive. Look at how many of them watched that Hulk Hogan reality show! The thing is, if Stacy becomes a breakout star as a result of this, she's not going back to the WWE. She seems to have bigger career aspirations than spending it as a WWE diva.

Yeah, I think it was a promo shot on Entertainment Tonight the other night where they interviewed her and showed some practice footage, and she said she gave birth 7 weeks before DWTS. She wears a lot of black which hides it somewhat, but you can tell she's self-conscious about it because she kept bringing it up.

SO very, very much snark. This show did not disappoint.
1. I didn't mean to laugh at the ESPN guy, but I just couldn't help it.
2. Ghetto ballroom. Wow.
3. Was that Bill of Kill Bill in the crowd?
4. Nick Lachey! I wonder if Leah was there too. I know she's a dancer so maybe she helped Drew.
5. They need to work on their camera work.
6. That football guy was good. He made me smile.
7. My money is on that gorgeous wrestler to win. Wow.
8. It's Lynn Echolls! They made her lips look better. Haaron Hamlin was really
9. George Hamilton laughs at himself. I like him, but he's trying to hard to be Hurley. His tan though- wow. I thought when he was behind Master P and Jerry Rice and sort of mocking them that they could really hurt him them.
10. Tatum is C-R-A-Z-Y! I really think she is on something.
11. I'm glad they told us Tia just had a baby becuase I was like woooow, she got fat.
12. I wonder what Lisa Canning thinks tonight. The new female host's arms are very muscular.

Who was directing this show?? Helen Keller? Cameramen scooting out of every other shot.. I could even see the shadow of the camera boom on the dance floor..
Stacy was robbed.. When did E DEE TA become eh da tuh? Wasn’t she ee dee at last year?
Master P - I’m revoking your Black card for a lack of rhythm violation. Even gangstas got rhythm. You could have at least put on some dancing shoes. You have a clothing line. You mean to tell me that was the best you could pull together. You didn’t even try. I though the diamond bedazzled baseball caps went out two years ago. I mean everybody acted afraid of him even his partner… scary. You mean to tell me Todd Bridges wasn’t available… oh yeah, he is skating on FOX. Hell I would rather watch Gary Coleman than endure Master P again.
ESPN Man- I am tempted to vote for you just for the comedic relief.
Jerry Rice- You are a sexy old man. Your hip actions gave me fever. I can tell you are great in bed
George is Mr Peterman Part Deaux
Nick’s Brother- I don’t care about you and I hate your partner
Loved all of the women except Tatum because I just can‘t stand her ever since I learned that she took Michael Jackson’s virginity when they were teens thus scarring him for life. Yeah you won an Oscar big WHOOP. Were the judges watching the same thing I was watching?
I think all of the women at least tried. Surprised that I like Stacy
Bruno is full of shit. I bet you are not even Italian. I bet you are from Long Island.

Is it possible to vote for Ashley, but not "P"? I feel sorry for her. Jackass was too cool to even TRY.
Also, who's in charge of that camera work?! They were either cutting away at the exact the "big" moment (dance-step wise), or cutting away right TO a shot of another camera man... OR BOTH!

You know, Master P, if you didn't want to be there, you didn't need to say "Yes".
I really like Tia Carrere and the Wrestler Girl. Both of them had style. I also liked Giselle Fernandez.
On the men's side, I thought Drew Lachey did really well, and I was pleasently surprised by Jerry Rice.
I also liked how all the men did one style and the woman another - it made it easy to compare everyone.

Oh. My. God. Kenny NEEDS to stay on. He just NEEDS to. It is imperative for my amusement. That was so, so awesomely bad. SO awesome. And he might dance quickstep! I simply can't miss out on that.
Ashley and Master P, on the other hand, were just... sad. Did he even dance? He was just shuffling around, while poor little Ashley danced her heart out around him. Even Evander danced more than him. I hope they get eliminated (even though I love Ashley) just to put the poor girl out of her misery. That was just plain bad.
Drew and his partner were awesome, they deserved top marks. I liked a lot of the middle-of-the-packers as well (Jerry the football player, Tia). Giselle and Tatum were good too, they just aren't my favourites. The wrestler girl had nice extension, but she is going to be this year's Rachel Hunter (a.k.a. Watch Me Pose... I mean "Dance")
God I hope one of the Oompa Loompa teams (Edyta/George or Louis/Lisa) get eliminated soon. I'd prefer Lisa, because seeing Louis get eliminated first again would be delicious, and I think they faltered a lot. I thought the routine he choreographed was far too difficult to start out with.

I've never watched before but came for Jerry Rice (die-hard Oakland fan here). Wasn't disappointed... the boy has moves and I want to dance with him now! Also, his partner is the hottest of the bunch in my opinion. Oh, and his preppy little outfit was adorable. I was doubting his potential but the second I saw him commit to it in practice I knew he could do it.
Tatum is just wierd. Has she become Bette Midler?
Master P may as well have been a pole for pole dancing. He shuffled while she danced around him. I've never watched this show before... do they really vote off the worst? Please tell me they do. He also looked like a thug. And he's dedicated his Jackson 5 Cha Cha Cha to hurricane victims and poor black kids in the ghetto everywhere? Wha-huh? That poor little girl.
I want to hug Kenny Mane... bless him, he was trying.
The wrestling girl is soooo pretty, I wish I had her body.
Drew was awesome. I'm surprised to find myself digging him and his less-than-pretty partner, they were a lot of fun to watch.
And my favorite couple to make fun of is officially the ones I now call Fish Lips and her Small Gay Man.

I came in rooting for Stacy Keibler, because (small voice) I follow wrestling (/small voice). I was impressed by her, and thought she did better than Tatum. I hope Tatum isn't this season's "Rachel" where everyone oozed about her and I could never figure out why.
I just wish I could can P (ugh! Boy! Wear the right shoes!) and Drew's partner and match up Ashly and Drew.
PS. George, you're no Peterman.
My votes are going to ESPN guy, because I want to ensure that he outlasts P one week.

I can't get into the wrestling chick because I don't have a clue who she is! And from the far shots, she looked like Paris Hilton!
George Hamilton is just old and creepy now (and incredibly puffy). He hasn't got any of the likability of O'Hurley.
I'll go with Drew Lachey, because I want to keep looking at Nick in the audience. Maybe we'll see him with a date one of these weeks.

Its a tribute to Harry Hamlin that whenever they cut to him in the audience I get creeped out because Aaron Echolls is out of jail.
Oh poor girl dancing with Master P. The shuffling man mass. Dear lord.
So, latin dances for the men, standard for teh women? I guess that makes it easier for them the first time out, but I kind of wanted to see the guys try and lead and fail, fail, fail. For leading ballroom is hard shit, and there's nothing to sooth the soul like watching celebs fail at something you're trying to attempt.
Nick Kosavich did an exhibition at the UConn college ballroom competition this year with his wife. They were quite good.
I thought there was a marked difference between Nick and that other dancer who said his strength was leading-Giselle's partner- and the other guys. Those two choreographed waltzes that looked more like waltzes, not like step-step-streeeeetch-lean-step-lean-stretch-spin!spin!spin! that everyone was doing. Nick is the only one there whose specialty is smooth/standard.
Its interesting watching this as a beginning competative college ballroom dancer, because I understand why they teach the celebs the way they do (it'd be damn boring watching bronze moves ten times over), but they really arne't learning lead/follow dancing since they're going right to choreography. Personally, the lead/follow part is what I like most about dancing.
I also liked Jerry Rice, he's a step ahead of most guys if he's figured out that hips move. Same goes for Drew, who has another definite advantage in knowing how to find the beat.

My thoughts:
George Hamilton is trying too hard to be the new John O'hurley - age jokes, faux charm, etc. But I am happy that Edyta got a better partner this time around.
Louis looks so much better in the new hairstyle, and I am happy for him as well, that he got a partner who isn't stiff and frigid this time. I thought it was adorable the way Harry Hamlin was cheering for his wife, and I swear I heard him loudly boo when the judges were being so picky.
These two were lowballed by the judges, I thought.
Sportscaster guy tried, which is more than can be said for Master P. Why bother showing up if you are just going to stand there. Poor Ashly.
There was something weird about Tatum - it was uncomfortable the way she seemed so eager and needy. Stacy, the newscaster lady and Tia Carrere wanted to do well, too, but Tatum seemed especially desperate.
Jerry Rice is really trying, and he wasn't bad, but each time he commented that he and his partner had chemistry - she made such a face! I don't think she agrees.

However, I really tuned in for Kenny Mayne because 1) I couldn't believe he was actually doing this & 2) I knew it would be funny. Master P -- dude, why? Why even be on this show? To be honest, I sort of feel the same way about George Hamilton and his falling off the boat. The fifth time they told us that, I thought -- maybe you should have just cast someone who doesn't have broken ribs. He looked like he was dancing in a back brace.
Edyta was "ed-it-a" last year, too. They may have slipped up and called her "ed-ee-ta" at some point, but I remember the unusual pronunciation.
Drew Lachey and Jerry Rice were good. The women kind of blended together for me, except Tia and her cute (but not really sexy) Russian partner. I think there are too many couples on this show, or maybe 2 hours is just really pushing the concept.
Anyway -- bad music, bad costumes, bad dancing -- just what I was expecting! I'm glad it's just as campy as last season.

I wonder if he thought they didn't do enough traditional ballroom dancing. The choreography definitely seemed designed to take advantage of Stacy's long legs and extension, and I wonder if he didn't like that she was flaunting it. Yeah, I think part of the criticism there was "where was the waltz?" Stylized leg extensions to music in 3/4 time does not a waltz make, necessarily.

It seemed to me that Drew Lachey was the only "celebrity" who actually danced. All of the others were remembering their choreography, trying not to fall, emphasizing whatever their teacher-partners told them to -- posture, extension, etc. If you saw any of them on the dance floor at, say, a wedding, you'd have no idea what they were doing there. DL looked, at least, as though he heard the music and was there to, you know, dance.

First impressions:
*I was a little disappointed in Stacy not rocking a regular waltz, but she looked lovely and seemed to do well at what Tony was teaching her.
*Kenny Mayne? To quote the Partridge Family, I think I love you! You are so the Everyperson and won everyone over by being a big goof who freakin' tried. Major points for the Batusi and the wave-off!
*Tia and Giselle blew me away with how elegant they were.
*Drew? I think we have Joey Part Deux.
*Jerry Rice- can we keep him too? He's fun.
*Lisa, George,Tatum- good starts, but not thrilled.
*When I saw Louis I thought "Did they go out and find some dancer that looks like Harry?!" Then I got excited because it was Louis! Glad he has a better partner. Glad to hear a partisan spouse too!
*I think that was David Carradine just beyond the judges, but I could be wrong.
*We lose Canning, yet get another stupid-question-time-wasting-"cohost"? Good gravy! Couldn't they use the cash to pay for royalties or something?
I think we might have a great season ahead of us; too bad about Miss Ashley tho'. I was happy to see her!

Anyhow, I feel bad for Ashley. She looks good and she got stuck with a partner that didn't even make an effort. Luckily for her there were worse dancers tonight so she may survive.
Kenny cracked me up because, dude, at least try to take this seriously. I wouldn't be surprised if he's the first one booted off. Luckily he didn't fall off a boat so it's a toss up between him and George.
I was impressed by Tatum and I didn't think I would be. Scary.
Best of all tonight, we got a glimpse of one half of the Suxy. I missed seeing the hotness of Alec on my screen every week.

Big Word to this. I kept waiting and hoping his chest and hips would show up.
Tatum is one crazy woman. I think her partner may throw the competition after a while just so he won’t have to keep meeting with her during the week. It would get real old if you were trying to practice and your partner kept complaining of being sick and wanting to take breaks. Too much drama. As someone said up thread, she comes across as very needy but I have to say she did a good job dancing.

I can't believe I forgot to record the first part of this! I cleaned before going to ballet and probably got distracted. I remembered during stretches.
Did catch Giselle, Jerry Rice and Tatum, though and they all did pretty well, even Jerry. The men got the short shrift again this year starting out with latin, but I suppose the waltz needs a stronger partner. Jerry's partner made his look very nice, but I don't think he was as great as Bruno, Len, and Carrie-Ann said. I love Bruno and his pa-shun.
At least the co-host isn't as bad as Lisa Canning(?), but she's not great. Tom Bergeron's lap-puppy comments grew on me toward the end of last season so I don't mind him coming back.

Between that comment and his little cut-off shorts outfit my roommate and I were howling; Louis is a piece of work! And Lisa makes a good side-kick to him because she just rolls with it and enjoys it. They are a funny pair to watch.
I tried phoning in votes for Kenny, bless his soul, but my time zone was already shut down at 10:45... I forgot how little time there is to vote once the show has ended.
Whoever said Drew Lachey and Ashly would make a snappy couple, I say Amen! They'd be so cute and zippy!
