Let's file a complaint with the FCC like all the Clay Aiken fans. How did they think that we would be so stupid as to believe that her performance was flawless when she fell to her knees on the last turn?? *sigh*

I, who know nothing about dancing, saw the missteps and could have sworn that Alec basically dropped Kelly on her knees at the end.
I'm with you on that one Archer. She even knew she had screwed up big time. You could see it on her face.

Damn. And damn again, for good measure. Much as I admire anyone who comes from last place to first, I just don't get Kelly/Alec as the winners when John/Charlotte have been so consistent, superior and technically better. One triple 10 freestyle dance does not an overall winning pair make.
Also, as long as we're talking 10's here, did anyone count how many times Kelly waited for her mark...and for Alec to catch up with her? I got up to 3, and that doesn't include the flub on the next to last lift. Was I hallucinating or did I miss the perfection? This is not to say it wasn't a good dance, but I don't think it merited a perfect score from any of the judges.

Jul 6, 2005 @ 9:04 pm
I saw moments of Kelly pausing before starting a step because she wasn't sure. She was waiting for Alex. This was obvious to me as a viewer
I noticed that as well, it was so blatant which makes it even more obvious that something is wrong about the voting. The judges had to have seen those pauses, yet no mention of it.
Crap.
That was one fugly trophy!

I thought John and Char were robbed as well, but to be fair to Kelly and Alec's freestyle, I believe a lot of the "hesitation" on Kelly's part was actually part of the choreography. The performance was about him showing her how to dance -- he'd do the step, then she'd do it with him. J&C did a bit of the same thing in their freestyle. Unfortunately, Kelly's timing was just a bit off through the entire performance -- girlfriend tends to rush her steps -- so instead of coming off as intentional, it comes across as her starting late. Or at least, that's how I viewed it.

As the Duke fans say, "we beg to differ."
As soon as those 3 10s for that flawed "meh" dance went up, I knew it was all over. Please, Len, that was the performance of the show? Did you not see J/C's freestyle ten minutes before? Y'know, where the guy actually pointed his feet in the jive section?
I'm sorry, I'm with everyone who said they rewarded Kelly for getting better, not for being the best. I was watching Rachel and hell, Trista, in that final dance and my untrained eye thought they were both better.
John and Charlotte were robbed.

I guess I'm in the minority as well, too, because I thought Kelly and Alec's freestyle was great. And it didn't matter what the judges thought, because as mentioned earlier in the thread, since the viewer vote is the tiebreaker, the viewers only would decide the winner. And the viewers chose Kelly.
I can't explain it, but I am deliriously happy for Kelly Monaco. She was the underdog and she managed to win the whole thing. She improved so much and I think she deserved it.
For me at least, this show has been quite a surprise. Who would have thought I would get into a show about ballroom dancing? I have the lovely Rachel Hunter and the suxy Kelly Monaco to thank for that.

So pissed. So pissed!!! That was total BS!! John and Charlotta were the epitome of style and grace and everything else that ballroom dancing stands for. They were a joy to watch. And we were never in any danger of seeing Charlotta's naughty bits as was the case with Kelly.
In conclusion... that ending sucked!!

I agree with the judges that Kelly & Alec's freestyle was the best performance of the series BUT Charlotte & John were the most consistently great and still should have won. What I really want is for John & Kelly to replace Tom & Lisa as hosts next year! Both performers have tremendous personality while Tom's a tad dull and Lisa's a retard.

Angeepang, I'll join you in the minority. I was rooting for John & Charlotte to win up until their freestyle. I really hated that routine. It seemed way to simple to me and even with the hips at the beginning John looked completely stiff. I think it should gotten a lower score. That being said Kelly & Alex's freestyle should have gotten a lower score as well. Their routine was much more complicated but they messed up. I think they should have gotten a 27 at best while John & Charlotte should have gotten a 26. That would have put John and Charlotte in the lead but obviously Kelly and Alex won the audience vote so they would have won anyway.
By the way my suggestion for fixing the scoring next time - add the judges scores with the percentage each couple gets of the audience vote instead assigning ranked based on both.

Were the two occasions when Kelly clearly stumbled and nearly fell choreographed? Maybe their first few performances (which were awful) were also choreographed so as to hide all of her talents (which were revealed with a broken dress strap)?

This show was total and utter bullshit. The worst dancers in the whole competition (next to Evander) win? Rachel, Joey and John were far better dancers than Kelly. With the marked "improvement" to Kelly's judging and "dancing" by the 3rd show I knew they were going to win because they were the underdogs and let's face it, Kelly is ABC's bitch. (next to Trista). I call shenanigans and ABC you can go fuck yourself for thinking you were pulling any wool over anyones eyes on this one. Even Charlotte as she was standing there was rolling her eyes at the judging and the final annoucement because she knew or realised the amount of bull and shit wafting around the room.

When the three 10's came up I was so sure they were giving Kelly the "numbers win" as a sort of consolation prize because John and Charlotte had so clearly dominated the entire series.

masson!!! I was just coming to post that! My roommate and I rewound that part three times and laughed ourselves silly. I thought their freestyle was lame (terrible lifts) and their samba was worse (that sit and spin move has to go). Kelly doesn't transition well from one move to the next-- waaaay too much hesitation.
I'm really disappointed with the outcome, and DAMN would I have loved to see Joey and Ashly do a freestyle dance tonight.
Too bad we didn't get to vote on tonight's performances.

I mean you have to give Kelly credit where credit is due. The woman does GH from morning till night, and in between she is learning dances for this show. I also thought that their free style was a lot more difficult because they had more of the "stunts" going on.

I kind of got the feeling that the judges knew that Kelly and Alec were going to win the fan vote, so they decided not to force the tie. I would think it would be harder to win the judges vote and lose the competition to the fan vote. I think it's what really crushed Rachel before. The judges knew, and decided, "Why fight it?"
The biggest mistake I saw with Kelly and Alec was when he really did seem to drop her after the one lift. She kind of tumbled down to the floor and damn near sat down for a moment. It was very, very awkward.
I thought that John and Charlotte were the best couple, but didn't have the massive support of the soap fans to back up their amazing performances. At least he doesn't have to have that God-awful, fugly "trophy" in his home for all time. I did want to hug him very badly. John just looked so disappointed.
Did anyone else see Rachel say something along the lines of, "It should have been you.", or was it just me?

Jul 6, 2005 @ 9:12 pm
Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiixed!
If Kelly and Alec's flawed performance was a perfect 10, John and Charlotta were about a 15. K&A were entertaining and very good, but FAR from a perfect 10. Those lifts were not smooth at all, the last one, you saw Kelly hit the floor way too hard and almost lose control, which messed her up enough that she wasn't in time to the music for the final position. It's not that it was bad, it was great, and a huge improvement for her. But it was not a 10 by any stretch of the imagination.

That was actually my other problem with the show - some of the celebrities competing had an advantage because they had training as dancers before. John, Rachel, and Joey all had training as dancers before this show and I think that gave them an unfair advantage to start out with. Rachel I could let pass because it was ballet lessons when she was younger but it always bugged me how both John and Joey had some professional training as adults.
As for the soap fans argument I just don't agree with that. On a good day GH has about 4 million viewers (in fact its ratings have been dropping like a lead balloon in the last two months) while this show has over 16 million viewers. I would think New Kids on the Block Fans would be a much stronger force to be reckoned with and they certainly didn't affect the outcome so I just don't believe soap fans did either.

Agreed, and glad you didn't include Evander in that list. I had to
look away because it was painful and embarassing. He was making some weird faces at the end of the show, too... don't know what was up with that, or Joey's jerky neck spasm.
The post-reveal moment was poorly planned, I should add, with the camera just panning around aimlessly while confetti floated down into Kelly's bosom.
I think Rachel Hunter was whispering to John that he should have won, or something along those lines at the end, so that cheered me up a little.

I don't believe it was fixed. Trista's show was on ABC and she was the first one voted off (though it may have been that people can't stand her). And John O'Hurley has an ABC hook up too. He was on the soap Loving (I think he played two roles actually). I mean, I believe Kelly had the viewer votes through out the show -- never underestimate the power of the soap fans -- but I really don't think the show was rigged.

I've taken it off my Season Pass, I don't care how many more seasons they do. Kelly forgot her steps at least twice. The lift landings were none of them smooth and the last one he dropped her. It was a crock and ABC should be embarrassed. If it's scripted, then don't pretend it's a competition. They never did reveal vote totals for any week, so we have no idea what the real voting patterns were. But if it were soap fans, then Kelly wouldn't have been at risk in earlier weeks when she was even more awful.

Lifts in a pool, Patrick Swayze guest cameo...I didn't know this was Dirty Dancing night!

I don't think it's fully fair to blame Kelly's soap fans for her win. I've never watched General Hospital, and I didn't know her from Adam when this show started. But after Rachel got eliminated, I voted for Kelly diligently, because I enjoyed her performances and her improvement.
I voted 5 times from my home phone, 5 times from my cell phone, and 5 times from my wife's cell phone. AND I voted on the internet.
If there are other people like me, then Kelly does have some support beyond her GH fans.

John was robbed. Kelly has improved a lot, but I don't think she deserved to win. I definitely don't think she deserved three 10s.
I agree that Joey and Ashly would have kicked ass in the freestyle.
Trista's rhumba was horrible. And did anyone else notice her partner mouthing the words of the song to her? I thought that was weird.
I still think the voting needs to be changed. I like the idea posted above about using percentages and actual scores instead of rankings. I also like the idea of using cumulative scores.

If the whole thing was fixed, Kelly wouldn't have gotten such slams and low scores the first two weeks. She doesn't play a popular character on GH, she isn't one of their most popular actresses. There was no reason to believe that she'd get the fan support to keep her in those first weeks.
But to each their own. While I love John O'Hurley, I never cared at all for Charlotta. That whole plastic Stepford smile and jewelry-box-ballerina fakey head tilt she does may be "ballroom," but it ruined almost every one of their dances for me. John's mugging also got old, though I love his humor in the behind the scenes spots.
I wouldn't have been upset if he'd won. I'm not upset that Kelly did, either. She's the only one who came into this with a full time job, plus no dance training, plus that whole blown-out eardrum thing, and she and her partner overcame it all. I liked her, and apparently a good portion of the audience did as well.
