Meet the latest addition to the Adult Swim lineup. Robot Chicken is your basic stop-animation program, partially produced by Seth Green. If you've ever read "Twisted Toyfare Theater," you'll probably love this. In fact, if you have CNBC, tune in to the Late Night repeat at 7 pm. There, you'll see a clip with great one-sided fights. I laughed. Hard.

Robot Chicken debuts next Sunday after Family Guy. I predict greatness.
the fresh maker
The previews look awesome. Don't disappoint me, [AS].

The clip they showed on Conan was hilarious, and knowing Green, it'll be great.

Ha, that's what I thought when I saw the teaser. Mego Rules!
CommanderBeef
I've seen some of this stuff back on Sony Screenblast, I was sad when it was gone.
Most of the episodes are very short.
I'm hoping the Jesus "Kill Bill" bit makes the first episode.
Zerowing
The promos look hilarious. But we'll have to wait and see if they can sustain a high level of humor for a weekly series.

One thing does concern me. Since they are using those old Mego superhero action figures in "compromising positions", I hope they aren't setting themselves up for a lawsuit from Marvel and DC comics, since they are essentially having Marvel and DC heroes acting in bizarre and unflattering ways.

I am so excited about this show. I rea about it in Wizard and ToyFare a while back and I saw Seth on Conan the other night. I can't wait. I love "Twisted ToyFare Theatre." Seth's partner is actually one of the guys who used to do that for ToyFare. Some of the skethches he described in the magazines sound awesome. He did address the legal aspects of things, and it sounded like they had everything taken care of Zerowing. I am excited about all of the celebrity voices he has lined up. And Seth said they have been saving everything for when DVDs are released, he said Cartoon Network was "DVD happy."
glory85
This show is going to be awesome. I just know it. I mean, come on, Jesus vs. Santa Claus ala Kill Bill? And the one-sided fights clip that they played on Conan cracked me up.

Since DC is owned by Time-Warner, they're safe using those characters. As for Marvel, I'm not 100% certain. I'd imagine CN's standards and practices have it covered though.

There's no such thing as bad publicity.
Just look at Ashlee Simpson, sure, she sucks, but she's more famous than ever.

Oh Excellent, that's just what I was hoping. I recall Seth wrote an intro for Vol 2 of the Twisted Toyfare Theater compilation series. Well, this should be awesome. If we can't have "TTT -- The Movie," this should Do in the meantime. :)

I don't know how I missed hearing about this show long ago. The first I heard of it was seeing a promo last night. Next Sunday!

Hey, while catching up, I found a link to an episode guide for the first six episodes of the season, if you like to be spoiled. And here's an interview from the Wizard site. Sounds like the show will be as twisted as it oughtta be. :)

Will there be any occasional Marvel characters in this series? I don't recall noticing one last night. TTT uses Marvel all the time but no DC characters, which would double the scenarios. I guess RC will be the flipside then, having access to all the DCs but no Marvels. I'd love to see Spider-Man on Robot Chicken. Maybe they can work it out under their legal parody banner.
roosterboy
I've always found TTT to be kind of hit-or-miss, so this show didn't exactly grab me when I first heard about it.

But this...
Adm. James T. Kirk, Khan Noonian Singh and Kirk Cameron at work in a pizza joint in “Two Kirks, a Khan and a Pizza Place.”

...has sealed the deal for me! I will definitely be tuning in.
bossu
This could be the first [AS] original show I'm actually excited about. Even though I loved "Twisted Toyfare Theater", maybe I should torpedo my expectations, just to be on the safe side. I just hope it's damn funny.

From Marvel, I clearly saw Hulk and Falcon action figures in the promo. And I think I caught a quick glimpse of a Captain America action figure in the background.

From DC I saw Superman and Batman figures. I also saw some G.I. Joes, a He-Man and a Skelator. So apparently they are using just about every kind of action figure you can think of. I would so love to see a Six-Million-Dollar Man show up LOL.
phxchic
I set up a Season Pass on the TiVo just based on the clip from Conan. Those fights were awesome!
Yaypie
If it's anything like Action League! Now! from Kablaam, I'm gonna love it. Cause I loved that show.

Edited because I can spell when I'm not sober.
cal331
Yay, another Kablammer! I am really looking forward to this show. TTT is the best thing my comic-book (er, graphic novels) geek friend ever introduced me to.
jedshead
I saw a commercial for R.C. on Toon channel out of the corner of my eye. Thought I heard that Les Claypool (PRIMUS) was involved somehow. Anyone have confirm on this? I'm an instant fan if this is true! will have vcr set for sure :-)
JessKay
Wow. I'm adding "Retardacon" to my daily lexicon. And I barely got my head off my chest during the One-Sided Fights. Simply hilarious.
caffinated
Except for World's Most One Sided Fights, I wasn't overly impressed. Still, the concept has a lot of potential, and I have faith in Seth Green.
CommanderBeef
Just as good as the Sony Screenblast stuff. They go quick, so if something sucks, it goes away in a hurry.

The bloopers went on a little too long, but the Pokemon bit was the best.
Squirtle was saying "Kids, go read a book!" after getting frustrated with his lines.
Transformers was the best. They had a Gilligan's Island meets Survivor bit on the old website, I hope they show it.
Lantern7
Heh...Optimus died and turned into a coffin.

The blooper bit went on too long...but I laughed at the Cyclons, even though I never got into Battlestar Galactica.
the fresh maker
The best part of the Cylons? A lone Cylon fumbles down a hallway where a banana peel awaits. All of a sudden, before the Cylon can slip on the peel, a bowling ball comes along and knocks the Cylon out into space.

So dumb. So funny. I laughed loud and hard.
roosterboy
Okay, that was just stupid. If the rest of Adult Swim is so lame, I see that I'm not missing anything by not watching it. I know there was one scene where I laughed but damn if I can remember now what it was. And I had high hopes for this based on the articles I had read.
Vermicious Knid
I believe Les Claypool wrote the theme music.

Well that was funnier than the entire season of Tom Goes To the Mayor at least. The mad scientist in the opening credits was like a Rankin-Bass special gone horribly wrong. As a bitter former Phile, I appreciate the crack at the awfulnes of the post Mulder episodes.

While I was computerless last week I was flipping through channels and caught an interview with two of the creators on The Screen Savers. Rachel Lee Cook was the actual actress in those "This is your brain on drugs" PSAs and they had her do the voice for the parody. Since action figures aren't articulated well many of the dolls only use the head and arms while the bodies are made of cloth and wire to be poseable. Some of the animators have previously done miniature work on the Star Wars movies.
Pete
You gotta love that SG got Rachael Leigh Cook to reprise her role as Angry Girl With Frying Pan. The Cylons made me laugh out loud.
bossu
Good thing my expectations were nice and lowered or I'd be pretty bummed, right about now. That's not to say that nothing was funny. I did get a few "laugh-out-loud" moments with the Transformers bit, the beginning of the PSA and some of the bloppers. However, the rest of the show felt flat. Since the episode seems to focus on "shock humor", more than anything, a lot of the jokes just left me shaking my head. This kind of humor is hit-or-miss with me, but I'm willing to chalk it up to first-time jitters.

Optimus transforming into the coffin was a surprise because I was expecting him to lose his color and give up the matrix. Man, I think they missed an opportunity to snark the TF movie even more. I'd have loved for Ultra Magnus to show up, at Prime's deathbed, and literally fall apart or something.

Hopefully, the next episode will be a little more stronger.
designmerc
Finally had a chance to watch it and I thought it was all sorts of awesome. I was just sitting there with this huge grin on my face the entire time, punctuated by nearly falling out of my chair at times like the Star Trek blooper, Optimus transforming into a casket, and what looked like an Al Franken doll taking the lollipop and then punching the baby.
CommanderBeef
Nobody liked Captain Kirk getting his twig and berries caught in the door?
Guy eaten by a giant panda? It was good!! Good stuff.
Harrison Fjord
Loved it all. Every joke seemed to work for me. By the time the Cylons started falling apart I almost needed oxygen.
Arkham
I thought the Captain Kirk and panda jokes were boring and unimagnative. Most of the other jokes didn't work for me either. I thought it was cool that they used Rachel Lee Cook for the "brain on drugs" spoof, but the spoof itself didn't make me laugh.

I think that some of the jokes were funny, though, and some of the jokes that didn't make me laugh at least seemed like clever ideas. So I will check out another episode.
Yaypie
It was hit or miss for me too. The shock stuff won't be funny forever, so they better keep up stuff like the transformers and the frying pan stuff.

The only thing that worries me is the clip I see of Kill Bill Jesus slaughtering rabbis and dodging a razor Jewish star. That better fucking be a parody on Christians or I'm sooooooooo out of here. One holocaust is enough, thank you very much.
Harrison Fjord
That better fucking be a parody on Christians or I'm sooooooooo out of here.

Get a grip; no one who matters was watching this anyway. If it makes it funny to you, then it's a rip on Christians. If it doesn't, it's just sophomoric humor that sucks. But it's not going to launch a holocaust. I'm not complaining that my Savior was blasphemed, so it's a wash.
CommanderBeef
Tonight: A tribute to nut shots. Walt Disney is a spidery robot with a taste for Cuban boys. Plus, Harry Potter has a little accident with his broom.

Dammit, I want the Kill Bill/Jesus bit from the promos!
Lantern7
Not as good as last week, because I can barely recall any of the bits. Did like the tribute to the nut shot, though.

ETA: Forgot about Voltron. Been there and done that with South Park...but there was the lion-humping action and the little mouse going "daaaaaaaaymn!" That was good.
davidmello
Anyone notice that Sarah Michelle Gellar was one of the guest voices this week? She was the female lion in the "Secrets of the Animal Kingdom" section, talking about the hyena. Frankly, "Voltron being served" was almost as strange as seeing Walt Disney and an evil spider.
Vermicious Knid
The dance off went on too long, and the Disney sketch didn't really seem to have a point. What was with the closeup on "I hate Jews" in the obituary? Although I have heard that Walt really was a prejudiced little bastard. The short, random, out-of-left-field bits were funnier. But, this does give me an excuse to bring up the little known fact that lemmings do not committ mass suicide; in reality the Disney filmakers deliberately stampeded the lemmings off a cliff for dramatic effect.
Hasbro
It's a long running rumor that Walt was anti-semetic, the Simpsons have mentioned it too.

I liked the nature specials for the title The Heiyna Nature's Asshole and the voice of Kurtwood "Robocop" Smith as the sexualy adventurous lemming.

Voltron went on too long, but maybe that was a tribute to the drawn out fight scenes that always ended with the blazing sword. They NEVER went to the sword first. I hated the lion Voltron anyway, I liked the vehicle Voltron.
CommanderBeef
It's still better than "Mission Hill" or the "Oblongs", though.
The "Oblongs" especially make me want to get sick, with all the good shows pitched and never green-lighted.
At least we'll get the Boondocks© later on this year. I can't wait.
GoingGonzo
Robot Chicken is good. Don't player hate!

[AS] needs good new comedy material. Anime is ASS!

And anybody who feels threatened by a 15 minute cartoon show? Please! Save the sword rattling for another day.

It is definitely a wash.
StickyKeys
I like Robot Chicken, and I love the fact that it's only 10 minutes. Any longer would be in direct violation of ADDtv.

I love the Oblongs, but Mission Hill sucks, and the Venture Bros just don't do it for me. Can't wait till the Boondocks either.
RabidChipmnk
Having seen 2 eps now, I think the verdict is still out on this one. Sometimes it takes a show awhile to find its stride. It's funny, but it's not incredibly great.

Oblongs really don't do it for me. Mission Hill is slightly better, Home Movies is better than that, VB is hilaaaarious, especially the Monarch and the whole ep Are You There God, It's Me Dean.
Hasbro
There's no way it could ever be the worst Adult Swim show when Ripping Friends is in the argument.

I am the only one who loves Mission Hill?

For me RC isn't the funniest or particularly groundbreaking, but decent enough jokes and seeing all my old toys should keep me interested.
StickyKeys
The Voltron Got Served segment cracked me up even though it lasted half the frickin' show. It was too cute to me.
jedshead
Must agree StickeyKeys.
Something about the Voltron bit, & transformers from last week's episode hit me as nostalgic. Growing up watching those shows, & now seeing them this way cracks my stuff up! :-) Still haven't decided Yay or Nay yet though. Need to View another 2 weeks worth I think...
the fresh maker
Two words:

"Voltron, REPRESENT!"
StickyKeys
Heh!
Albino Girl
Very hit or miss but hitting just enough to keep me watching so far. At least until the Kill Bill parody airs, anyway. I, too, am glad that it's only 10 minutes long because on the days that it's off, then it's over quickly and on the days that it's on, it leaves me wanting more... Actually, I tend to feel that way about most of the Adult Swim programs that I watch.
cerealboxkiller
I am the only one who loves Mission Hill?

No, you're not. ;P And I agree; Ripping Friends was awful.

No one mentioned my favorite part of this week's show. The part where the lemming said he didn't need a condom and the word "RETARD" appeared over his face was hilarious.
the fresh maker
The mythological creatures during the Flood was hi-larious.

Noah: God hates freaks.
Giraffe: That doesn't sound like God!

That 00's Show was kinda funny until the PSA.

Third grader PlayDoh? Not so much.

The highlight was definitely the race in the style of that Hanna Barbara cartoon. Batman and Robin in a low-rider. Kit featuring a "poop" button. Speed Racer with cheesy anime background suggesting movement and dead body in the trunk. The Ghostbusters, the Duke's of Hazard, Dom and Burt. Super Mario Kart including Wario. Really, they had me at Wario.
