Would anyone here be willing to give my fic a quick beta? It's only about a thousand words long, so it shouldn't be much trouble. If so, would you please email me at WhiteRabbitAlice0@hotmail.com?

ETA: Thanks for the rec, Kelmette16. Glad you liked it.

It appears that there is a new site for Veronica Mars fic: The Neptune Library. So far, only two fics, but they are ones that have been recced here before.
Kelmette16
At Neptune-High, I just read a great Logan/Veronica fic, "Tinkerbelle and I" by mswyrr. Very true and interesting - about Veronica confronting Logan's abuse
EnPassant
I highly recommend Wisteria's The View From the Cheap Seats (Part I) and The View from the Cheap Seats (Part II). It beautifully addresses the characters of Logan and Veronica. I am Bluesman99 on LiveJournal and you'll see by my comments there that Wisteria's word play has converted me (and incidentally, my wife) into a fan of this author's work. Wisteria also wrote a non fan fiction piece (A Love Letter to Veronica Mars) that is well worth the read. I believe she has written fan fiction for other shows. And while I have not read them, I know others highly regard her past efforts. We are lucky she now writes in the Veronica Mars venue.
InigoMontoya
I'm in the same boat as mswyrr, that is wondering if anyone would be willing to read my first ever piece of fanfiction. First ever piece of fiction, come to that. It's not complete though it's not short either and I don't know whether to carry on or not. Anyone willing to risk it, please email me (address in profile).
Kelmette16
Wee! fanfiction.net has it on! Let the sleepless nights return....
snoopypez
Ok, I'm hoping this is the right place to ask this. I thought about the Newbie Questions thread, but it's not really.. that. If this is the wrong place, I will gladly move it. :)

I've completely drawn a blank - what do Logan and Weevil usually refer to each other as? Last names, insulty nicknames? I can't remember! It's for a fic, of course. Heh.
Spacecow
As far as I can remember they never actually refered directly to each other by names (except for this one time is ep. 14 where Weevil called Logan "Opie" or something like that. I have no idea why).
When talking to other people they usually refer to each other by their normal names. When Logan was talking to the vice principal in ep. 7 he used the name "Weevil". When Weevil was talking to Veronica in ep. 14 he used the name "Logan".
However, when he was talking to Felix in ep. 7 they were talking about "the movie star's kid". Or maybe it was Felix that who that?...
I do remember that in ep. 10 Logan said something like: "give the pool boy his money".
Eh. I give up. Maybe you should take this to the Newbie's Thread. InigoMontoya and wykbbb will probably be able to help you.

There's some great Veronica Mars fanfic out there. Have any of you authors ever written your fanfic as a "Veronica Mars" episode script? I don't know the ins and outs of the t.v. business, but there must be a straightforward process for trying to get your script sold to the show. And I'm not sure how you become part of the regular writing staff, but I'm sure some of you do.

Since you're talented writers and have a great feel for the characters and the mood of the VM, why not try to get your ideas turned into a real episode? Then, your words wouldn't just be fanfic--they'd become some of the great lines we Ooh and Ahh about on the forums. Who knows? Maybe next season we'll have "Logan's Heroes" or "Veronica and Weevil Sittin' In a Tree." Hey, I never said I was a great fanfic writer.
alliterator
Topanga, sorry to say that it is a lot harder than that. Most shows don't accepted scripts without agents and generally, you have to work your way up in the business (first being a P.A. and then an assistance, finally getting an agent and setting a spec script out to people who are looking for new writers).

But I like "Logan's Heroes." Hee.
yofietofie
hey, mswyrr, I have a plan -- I'll beta your fic, and you can write my poly sci paper for me!

Actually, no, I'll beta. Warning though, I've only seen one episode and all my knowledge on the show is based on CB's recaps, fanfiction, and a few transcripts.

email me: JulieYohanna86@yahoo.com

I was afraid of that, alliterator.

Delurking to say that kieyra's Veronica/Weevil fic "The Enemy You Know" has been continued, and it's fantastic.

Book II: Days of the Phoenix
EnPassant
Carrielynn does not lie. It comes in two books, two chapters each, and is a smoking good read.
TrixieFirecracker
Thirding the rec for kieyra's "The Enemy You Know." It's one of the most well-crafted stories, in any fandom, that I've had the pleasure of reading.
kieyra
Thanks so much for the recs, carrielynn, EnPassant, and Trixie!

A caveat: If you intend to read the story and haven't yet, I'd like to request that you avoid the 'Speculation without spoilers' thread for now, because someone lifted my entire plot twist and posted it there this morning as their own theory--which would thus spoil you ahead of time. Sigh.
Spacecow

Yeah, I noticed that. I thought that maybe that person thought about that same theory him/herself.
I responded to that post and said I read the exact same theory in a fanfic, but didn't mention the name of your story so that people who haven't read it yet won't get spoiled.
Maybe you should ask that person to edit his/her post?
And the fic is wonderful, by the way.
kieyra
Yeah, I noticed that. I thought that maybe that person thought about that same theory him/herself.

I'd give them the benefit of the doubt were it not for the timing and the part about the dress. It's all way, way too much of a coincidence.

I'd ask CB to just delete the whole conversation there but I have a feeling he's not going to want to get involved in something this tawdry.

Also: Thanks!
InigoMontoya
kieyra, just adding to the praise of your story. It seemed so like what could happen on this show that I swear I had palpitations.
Spacecow

Maybe, but it's worth a try.

Also: You're welcome! :)
Breezy Kaitlyn
kieyra I, for one, am grateful for the discussion in that thread, because without, I never would have found your story! [Way OT] I love your stories: Take Whatever You Can Get is one of my all time favorite GG stories and I also LOVE that S/S story that you did that's set during/post TJ on The OC [/end OT]

ANYWAY, I've stayed away from most of the VM fanfic because I'm not the biggest V/L fan (I mean I like him and all, but I can't really see the two of them together). But once I heard that YOU had jumped into the fanfic waters, I decided to go check it out, and I am not sorry. What a fantastic story... well-plotted, interesting, (and the aforementioned theory is amazubg and leaves me sad for all parties, while also being realistic), and most importantly, all the characters are spot-on, which is something I've come to appreciate in all of your stories. So thanks!
kieyra
Wow, thanks for all the kind words and support! I really appreciate it and I'm glad some of you have enjoyed the story. I enjoyed writing it. VM is a surprisingly fun universe to play around in. I would totally encourage any lurking authors to give it a shot.

Breezy Kaitlyn, thanks for pointing out the silver lining. Heh. It's also nice to see someone from old GG days again. :) Glad you liked the story.
carrielynn

"The Definition of Intelligence"! I love that fic too. [/OT]

I was actually surprised that other than "The Enemy You Know", there is very little Veronica/Weevil in the fandom. I'm not surprised that Logan/Veronica is the popular pairing, but I just assumed there would be more balance (considering Kristen Bell has chemistry with every single male on the show). I'd love to see more V/Weevil fic.

Another VM fic that I've read recently and really enjoyed: 60 Minutes at the Edge of the World by wisteria. One hour of one day from Veronica, Weevil, Wallace, Duncan, and Logan's POV. An excellent look into each of the characters' minds.

edited to make this post somewhat on-topic

kieyra, you're brilliant.
WynterWolf
Must rec a lovely short fic by addictedtojoy. Part 1 of 2. Very much looking forward to part 2.
Kelmette16
Just read an amazing fic! Absolutely perfect in its words and the characters and their minds. No real romance in it, but definitely, completely worth the read: Inertia Creeping. The fic twists and loops around a timeline, but it's not hard to catch on. Excellent Duncan characterization as well!

ETA: Much later, because it's probably a good idea to get the spelling of the title right! Seriously - y'all will LOVE this fic!
Spacecow
I read that fic too. Loved it. Highly recommended.
Pixigal
I agree with WynterWolf about the fic by addictedtojoy. Very well done.
jacedes
I also agree about addicted's fic. That was so beautiful and understated. Can't wait for the second part.
marnilynne
The second part of addicted's fic has been posted. You won't be disappointed.
jacedes
I loved the second part even more, if that's possible :-)

Reedited because I am an idiot when I PMS. A slightly edited version is now up on the Veronica Mars Fanfic LJ. Many thanks to mswyrr for giving great advice that caused little changes that I think make it a more polished story and to my best friend Raye, who in spite of her stubborn decision to never watch VM because it would make me far too happy, read VM fanfic to help assure me that mine was primed for reposting.
kunju
Hi all. I just wrote my first VM fic. I swear I wasn't planning on it - I haven't been unhappy about any of the directions the show has gone in, which is usually why I write fanfic (or in the case of Firefly, what we never got to see). But then I had a dream in which Veronica had to be Logan's jailer every night, and it kept coming back until I started to write. Here it is.
depudor
kunju, I loved that. Congratulations on having such a great dream. Once upon a time in another fandom, one of my favorite fics was a dream fic. But yours was so vivid, I could really feel it. I've only had one VM dream that I remember, in which I learned that Aaron Echolls was my father, and he came over and made a mess out of my apartment, which pissed me off because I didn't have a maid.
Spacecow

LOL. Now, that's a vivid dream! :)
I had only one VM dream, but I can't remember it... :(

kunju, your fic is beautiful! it's beautifully writted and very real. Kudos!
kunju
Kisses to depudor and Spacecow. Thanks!

depudor, since you asked, I remembered most of the dream, but not the order of the jail-walks. And there were a lot more characters in my dream, but I figured a dream-fic would be confusing enough on its own, so I whittled away until it's just Veronica and Logan (and Backup). I didn't realize, though, unti I wrote it out, that Veronica doesn't speak. I hope the fic makes clear that the last bit can either be friendship or relationship; I was actually really frustrated with my dream for not definitively choosing one or the other. Stupid brain!

Okay, so apparently I can only write VM fanfic after a particularly good episode has aired. Because this happened just like the last time. Right after VM aired, I thought of a really good first line and then I wrote a short fanfic to it. And here it is:

A Choking Gall
Summary: Lianne smokes to forget. Spoilers up to "Betty and Veronica."
Nachel08
Here's a good fic about Veronica going to Logan after she discovers her mom after the dance called Thin Air. Fear by Julle T is also a realy good future Logan and veronica fic.
PMD
Hey Guys:

You would be so proud of my muse, lately. I did a piece with Logan in it for Kane and Abel and now I'm doing a revenge piece where Veronica might have feelings---actually muse is leaning towards has feelings for both now--- for Logan and Weevil both. My muse and I are starting to loosen up in regards to Logan because he was so mature last week. However, since she is a WeeVer (a friend of mine came up with that one) first and formost, she wants to give equal time with Weevil too. :) But in the future, I might try more Logan/Veronica. Just depends on how much my muse gives me time away from Chlex. So, this makes sense, right? :)
PMD
Well, unless I get major help from my muse or a good friend I have out there, I think my experiment of writing Logan/Veronica as anything but friends is a failure for lack of a better word. :: sigh :: Course, my muse has always taken the road less travelled with pairings in fanfic (except Lex/Chloe in Smallville)---explains why I'm having problems with this. Maybe she just has a thing for bald guys? <g> Ah well, guess I tried---now back to trying to figure out if Weevil can actually dance or just step on Veronica's toes. :: ouch ::
PinkBlondie
I have a theory that well-written shows don't inspire as many fanfics as lesser shows (like Smallville, which has an amazing fanfiction collection).

I'm gonna say that I agree with this. For the simple fact that Fan Fiction usually comes about when people aren't happy with the quality of writing and/or the direction that the show is taking. Although, in some cases, it can come about because people want to take it in directions the show will probably go to anyway, but quicker and with their own twist. It can also come about when someone, like me, just can't get the show or characters off of her/his mind. I freely admit that I probably suck, though.

This totally cracked me up. Thanks for the giggle!

And I also agree that well written shows often have difficulty supporting stellar fanfic. Buffy is an example for me of a show I could never get into fanfic for, just because it could never better the show. But for my major fandom, Roswell, where the writing eventually sucked, the fanfiction world has taken on a life of its own. I think that the former is probably true of VM for me. Nothing I have read so far matches the show in the slightest.
Kelmette16
Fanfiction.net just got a huge influx of LoVe stories. I like "Momentary Thing" and especially "The Wallace Inquisition" (Don't worry, it's L/V). "The Snail and the Jackhammer" is a pretty realistic thought fic.

ETA: "Innate" is also very very nice.
para
Roswell's fanfiction was occasionally amazing. VM's fic community is very small and as a rule of thumb - the smaller the selection of fic the smaller the amount of good fic.

I think VM fanfic could be interesting since it could attempt to nail the show from a point of view that isn't Veronica's and if that's well done, it could be awesome.
depudor
Fan Fiction usually comes about when people aren't happy with the quality of writing and/or the direction that the show is taking.

Or if the show dies young and the fans are left to continue it on their own, like Young Americans, my favorite ficdom. That show aired only eight episodes -- five years ago -- and people are still ficcing it, and 80% of the fic is better than the actual show.
Nothing I have read so far matches the show in the slightest.

muffinkath7, have you read Five Things That Don't Suprise Veronica Mars? It's a short piece (by my standards) but I think the quality if the writing measures up to the show.

Thanks for the recommendation. It was quite good. A little too much "language" for me, but I then I like my fic to reflect what I can be shown on my TV screen. That's just a personal preference. I thought the caracterizations were very good.

Just for the record, I've read some fic since Tuesday, and there is some good stuff out there. Mostly short, but good character pieces. The interesting thing about fic in this fandom, I've noticed, being as it's the first show I've been interested enough to seek out fic since Roswell, is that it is a lot more character driven than a lot of Rosfic. Because Roswell had the alien angle, plot often overwhelms character in fic (just as it did on the show). The really superior Rosfic balanced both well, as do the really superior episodes of the show.

Veronica fic doesn't seem to have that problem. Character pieces are definately strong. Does anyone know of any good plot driven pieces though? I'd like something meaty that balances both.
Kelmette16
The Veronica/Weevil fic, I think it's called "The Enemy You Know", is very good with both plot and character (especially in part 2). It's R, though, so you've been warned, but I'm usually pure Vegan and I like this one very much.
VeronicasSecret
I highly recommend "Subterfuge" ...It's one of my favorites!
InigoMontoya
"Subterfuge" is easier to read here because it's all in one place.
VeronicasSecret
Dude... You're "picklepocket", aren't you? ...I couldn't find them on the LJ because they were hiding under the transcripts ...Thanks for all the work you've put into them, love them all!
