By the way...do you watch the show Arrested Development?
I just saw that you used the phrase and wasn't sure if it was a shout-out of some sort to the show, or it was randomly there?

May 19, 2005 @ 11:47 am
Nope, I feel bad, but despite my Jason Bateman love, I've never been able to get into the show. I like the turn of phrase, though. My mom has often accused me of being a state of arrested development, particularly during my aforementioned vagabond writer days.

I am loving this whole story sadiekate and superappreciative that you have been so prolific. I also just read your post-finale W/V fic, which was hothothot, and yet so sad.

Thanks, Breezy Kaitlyn! And I have no idea where my sudden prolific-osity has come from, but I'm hoping to keep it up.

sadie kate, I'm really enjoying Prodigal Daughter.
Now to say something blasphemous. Keep chapter 3 aside. You could take that, change a name and the background situations then really run with it and have something that isn't fanfiction at all.
But don't stop adding to it, while you think about that suggestion.

Thank you! I was thinking the same thing. I may do that.
But don't worry - fanfic comes before my other writing career.

I'm working on chapter three of my story right now. I'm a little worried it might turn out a bit... I dunno... I know it's a necessary step on the way to the plot proper, but... anyhoo, just to let you know that it's in the works ;)

Girl, we may need to talk about this. Please don't tell me you should be standing in front of the room saying, "My name is sadie kate, and I am a fanfic writeraholic."
Oh the pain of co-dependency, I don't know whether to go into the room for fanfic-aholics or the friends of the fanfic-aholic writers...

Aww, you guys make me blush and get all giddy with your kind words.
thurbers, man, I just don't know what to say. I've been in this huge state of writer's block for like a year now, and about three weeks ago, I decided to give fanfic a try, because this awesome show spoke to me. Now, I'm writing up a storm, and I have other, non-fanfic, ideas. But The fanfic is the most fun right now.
I think the writer's block happened mostly because for the first time in my life, I've been really happy both personally and professionally. Now, with this show, I can tap into some angst without having to be angsty myself.

What a marvelous descripiton of why we watch. May I quote you regularly?
It's like I miss everything about the angst I used to feel, except actually feeling the angst. Does that make sense? And this vicarious angst fix is just so great.
Other shows have angst galore, but it's just so cheesy and fake. VM does it in an intelligent way.
That's much how I feel about posting at TWoP. There are lots of VM boards, but they generally feel shallow and cheesy to me. But here's a bunch of smart people talking about this show I love. How great is that?

By all means, quote away.
And yes, it makes perfect sense. I don't miss having a crappy job that I hated, and going out drinking to make me feel better after my crappy job. I don't miss my ex boyfriend who was a drunk and a cheater, and I don't miss having flings with guys to make him jealous. I do miss the frisson of doing something bad and self-destructive, but I don't miss the consequences. I like this show because it captures all the drama of being young and wild, but I can watch it from my house, while my boyfriend cooks me dinner.

I'm a great believe in vicarious angst. Make it vicarious whenever possible.
And I'll be looking forward to checking out the other stuff when you decide it is time, just let us in on it. Okay?
And I'll second the rec to look at SophiaBee's piece. Futurefic, but noir retro, very cool.

A while ago, I wrote my first Veronica Mars/Smallville crossover and got some mixed reviews here and off list. This caused me to think maybe I shouldn't write it at all--not the SV---I'm okay with that. But then I thought---this was my first attempt---and I didn't know the characters that well. So, instead of giving up---I continued and now, I know that LoVe will always be more popular out there but my muse goes the way she goes and I've found new friends because I didn't give up on my WeeVer. So, I thank those here and off that gave their candid reviews on it and say, you've helped me write better than I ever could. I gain a fair amount of inspiration from watching Weevil and Veronica on screen but you guys helped a lot too. Who said that negative didn't bring upon a positive is wrong---because sometimes it really does. Thank you so very much. And yes, I tried to do a LoVe but it sucked so I know where my strength lies now.

sadie kate, you are doing an excellent job with your story. Your insights into Veronica's personality and actions are perfect. I loved the scene with Weevil, the feeling of awkwardness when she first saw Duncan and the snarkiness of Logan. Keep up the good work, I can't wait to read more.

It's fun, kb. Once you get the one expository chapter out of the way, it unfolds pretty naturally. It's kind of fun setting up your own little universe and letting it unfold as it will. This was my first attempt, and it's been more well-received than I could have ever possibly hoped for.

Hey, you guys! Thought I'd post links to some of pieces that I've written here on the boards. My name is Keren, and I'll be your author for the post.

Veronica checks her car twice before she enters.Late at night after the finale, I experimented in unrhymed iambic pentameter (without actually being good at it). What's that? It's what Shakespeare wrote in. Deals with the aftermath of the finale.

On best friends. No spoilers beyond the Pilot.

sadiekate, I just wanted to say that I have really been enjoying "The Prodigal Daughter" series. You're obviously a fantastic writer. I'm very impressed with every aspect of the story, but particularly your dialogue, which is beautifully snappy and true-to-character. I particularly loved the very poignant chapter about Mark.

InigoMontoya, those two script-fics you linked to are GENIUS. Pure genius. Wonderful, could absolutely play on the show, and I'll easily get over the lack of Logan because...well go and read it ALL OF YOU, but it's really all about Logan. Wonderful work. I want to read the whole 'season'. (Can you be addicted to a show that's just written and actually made from a real show? With the same characters and plotlines and all? Because I'm reading this fic and feel myself asking, is it Tuesday yet?) Please link if they update!
