Okay, here's the deal. I'm in the process of writing my first ever fanfic (I think it might just about kill me before I'm through) and I'm feeling kind of anxious about it. Is there anyone who'd be willing to do a sort of taste-test for me? It wouldn't be for a full-on beta (I'll be back to ask for that once I'm done), and it would just be a portion of what I have so far. Basically I'm just looking for some encouragement/general feedback here, someone to let me know whether or not it's any good or what I should work on as I keep writing. I'm sometimes a little myopic and/or overly critical about my own writing, and I don't have anyone I actually know that I can show this to.
Eagerly awaiting any takers. Thanks!
Oh, FYI, I was an English major and am an editor by trade, so you won't need to worry about bad spelling, grammar, etc.

I'm always happy to take a look - and as her personal assistant, I can assure you sadie kate would give stellar feedback. (I don't mind volunteering you, boss!) Also, if you asked nicely, I'd bet LadyD would have excellent commentary as well... Really, everyone here is generally willing to help out. Feel free to start with me!

Great, thanks RedFlora! I'll start with you.
I'm totally new to the TWoP e-mail thing. I know how to e-mail you through your profile, but can I send attachments? Or do I just cut and paste into the message? What's the usual process here? This is me being totally clueless.
P.S. Anyone else up for a quick taste-test, let me know.
Babsonite
Jul 12, 2005 @ 11:53 pm
I'll look at it, but I probably won't be much help. Because even if I thought it was bad, I wouldn't tell you. I'm all about clouds and butterflies and happy comments...

Naw, Babs has a good eye (and ear, as it were) - it may be fluff, but it's QUALITY fluff.
I don't think you can do attachments (?) but it's usually worked well to just paste the text into the body of the message through TWoP. Then we can go to regular email for further correspondence.

Jul 13, 2005 @ 12:42 am
Okay, e-mail sent to RedFlora. *Eagerly awaiting feedback.*
Babs, I might take you up on that later.

Jul 13, 2005 @ 1:40 am
Babs, e-mail sent to you as well. I decided more than one opinion can't hurt.
LadyD, thanks for your offer. I was going to e-mail you as well (I don't mind a little negative/constructive feedback), but your account has your e-mail set up as private. You can e-mail me through my user page with your address if you're still interested.
Okay, taste-test officially closed. Back to your regularly scheduled programs.

Just finished reading skk's latest update- awesome! Can't believe you made it a cliffhanger! So rude. And delicious. Is there a way to leave feedback on the actual site? I don't want to get overly detailed here at TWoP.

JenJenL, if
skk doesn't get back to you you can email
fanfic@veronica-mars-investigates.com and I will forward it over to her.
The site is in progress. Hopefully I will have feedback, etc available in a few weeks.
Also, there is a
forum there. You are welcome to post feedback there. I will make sure that skk checks it.

I have to rec
A Practiced Gait by Jessie (alocalband). It's a Keith POV and really, really good.
I just wanted to belatedly second this recommendation. It's Logan and Keith stuck in a car together for several hours, and it's just as awkward as you'd expect. She really has both their voices down pat, so check it out.

I want to thank everybody who has said such wonderful things about my scripts. It’s your feedback that keeps me writing them. I especially want to thank those people who have sent me e-mails with detailed feedback on what works and what doesn’t work for them. That really helps me hone the scripts.
I’m sorry for the cliffhanger ending but it was either that or a 40-page manifesto with 3 MOTW. Too confusing for everybody - but especially for the poor writer. Unfortunately the next story is also going to have a cliffhanger, but not as dramatic as the one in “Friends in Low Places”
Another thing that really helps me is that I have two of the best betas in the game – InigoMontoya and Ethereal65. They are the one who take my incoherent ramblings and shape them into a story. For everyone who’s writing fanfic, I encourage you to get good betas.
But not mine.
Because they are TAKEN.
And they’re busy.
I've sent them the next script and if you bug them then they won't have time to review it. And we all have to wait until they are done to post the script. Trust me, you won't like it until my betas clean up the carnage.
Thanks everybody!

Just thought I'd mention that my entry in the first Veronica Mars Fanfic Utopia challenge is up:
Still That Same Girl.
Also, I know I've been slow in updating All That Remains, but I promise to get to the next chapter of All That Remains soon.
I also thought I'd mention,

Hello, etrnlscribbler. Welcome!
Everyone, I'm looking for a back-up beta for a second fic I wrote for the Loveathons pool challenge. It's silly, fluffy, and smutty and just under 6k words.
My beta has some important things to do with her time currently and might not be able to take a look at it, in which case, she'll let me know by tomorrow. It'd be great if someone would be willing to give it a read tomorrow if that happens, so I can still submit it for concideration to the challenge. Thanks!

(Sorry, couldn't help it.)
Send 'em over! My evenings are clear, I get off early on Fridays, and I love doing it - so don't worry about my beta-schedule. Besides, I'd MAKE the time for Babs & Crack! (OK, that totally sounds like some kind of Animaniacs-type cartoon.)

Thanks everyone who offered to fill-in as a beta, but my original was able to find the time. But ya' know... I'm always happy for more feedback. You can e-mail me through TWoP if you don't have LJ or would like your remarks kept private. The piece is up over at Loveathons. It's lyric-inspired by (and named for) the old children's song "

I finished my first fanfic and am looking for a beta. Someone who will really tell me how it is- I would rather look like an ass to one or two people rather than the whole 'net. (wouldn't it be nice if the whole net read VM fanfic?). My fic is about 5000 words and is all fluff and sex. No angst. Any takers? Especially someone who will try to be honest and helpful.

I rewatched Clash of the Tritons last night and got inspired to write
The Brothers Triton.
It's a Duncan one-shot set after his final initiation into the brotherhood; if you want to see the boy going through a little bit of self-torture at the start of what will be a hell of a hangover, here it is. :D Please review if you feel compelled to.
