The Pez
A new animated show on comedy central - the official website here. Basically it is the first animated "reality tv" show. It's scripted, I believe, and it seems to be a satire of Real World. Comedy Central has been playing some promos for it and it sounds interesting.

It looks like they are playing all the stereotypes: lesbians, gays, jocks, drunks, etc. Also from the preview on the show there are a ton of songs - I don't know if I'm going to like this..but I'll probably watch it. I'm predicting it'll be as bad and addictive as real reality tv.
Lantern7
There is potential. A few of the gags last too long, and how many poor souls on reality TV parallel Toot? (Frankie, lookin' at you). And Spanky Ham needs to die, and soon. But the rest is aces...particularly Ling Ling, the understudy of Pikachu. I got a soft spot for Pokemon...especially those that curse in Japanese and go on killing sprees. Now, if only stand-ins for Yugi, Joey and/or Kaiba would pop up...

And kudos on the Disney musical number about girls sucking face.

Dude... you are oficially scaring me here. Too.much.obsession.

I wish Foxxy Lady was voiced better. Feels like a white girl's bad impersonation. Loved the killer smurfs though.

Got potential. Kinda funny. Keeping the place warm for the return of Reno 911!
JonW81
If it were as funny as it tried to be offensive, this would be awesome. They just couldn't do without their HI-larious date rape jokes, I guess. They also break the reality show format more than they follow it.
Shack
So much potential. So very, very, very awful.

Their decision to overemphasize and exaggerate the already ridiculous nature of reality shows on top of the parody of animation archetypes is just too, too much. Not enough focus. The jokes are simple and thoroughly predictable.

I rolled my eyes at just about everything but the song.
Pat Agonia
Three of the VAs were immediately distinguishable: Tara Strong (the Bubbles soundalike Toot, and also the Princess it turns out), Cree Summer (Foxxy Lady, who sounds just like Numbuh 5 from the KND) and Spanky Ham (Adam Carolla).

My friends, I think I have just seen the worst show in the history of television. Worse than even Homeboys in Outer Space. My eyeballs were melting from the atrociousness of it all.

Entertainment gave this show an F, but since they never liked Family Guy either I don't belive a word they say anyway. This was not very impressive, but since it's just the pilot I'll watch a few more episodes before I give up on it. Pilots are never all that good anyway. I never cared for the Veture Brothers' pilot either, but now I think it's one of the best shows on Adult Swim.

This show has potential, but it's just not all that believable as a fake reality series. They need to be more like Reno 911 with unscripted and improvised dialogue. As talented as the voice actors are on this show if they injected a few members of that show in here it would be that much better. Carlos Alzaraqui is no stranger to voice acting seeing as how he was Mr. Weed on Family Guy and Krocker on Fairly Odd Parents maybe they could bring him on.

Reality shows are all about putting blatantly stereotypical people in a house and recording all the inevitable problems that happen and this show has just that a pig, princess, sassy black chick, muscle head, ambiguously gay guy, and a bitch so Ling Ling and Wingbat are the only ones that don't fit although I suppose you could count Ling Ling as the foreinger. I think they put more into the mix of animated characters by choosing an internet cartoon (Spanky), superhero (Capt. Hero), Disney princess (Clara), 20's cartoon icon (Toot), Nickelodeon creation (Wingbat), video game adventurer (Xandir), anime figure (Ling Ling), and possibly underground blaxploitation vixen (Foxy). It's a good mix.

I'm not giving up on this show because I hate to prove the critics right.
ashanta
Well, I was amused. But then again, I'm easily amused. I see it as having a potential as well, and I'll be definitely watching next week. Though, does Cree Summers have to play every cartoon black girl in existance? They couldn't find anyone else? I wouldn't be so annoyed if her voice weren't so recognizable in every character she does.

At any rate, I really like the concept, considering I'm sure at one point I've watched all these types of cartoons. (Except for that damn Pig. Shudder.)

And my roommate and I did giggle for quite a bit at: "Aw...Mitsubichi!"

Edited because someone should probably be sleeping rather than typing.

I gotta say I loved EVERYTHING about this horrible wretched show.
Whether it was Xandir's meltdowns, or Toot's "Sometimes I cut to relieve the pain....teehee!" But the pig can just go away. He's just loud, rude, over the top, and shitty. I also loved the Princess and Foxxy Love song. "DAMN WHERE'D THIS BITCH GET HER EARRINGS? The superhero also had me laughing with the "Twelve year old and a donkey! Twelve year old on a donkey!.....damn"

I will watch this show for as long as it is on!

The previews for next week seem a little off, I mean the princess lifting up her dress and tentacles coming out? Ewww....
Brn Eyed Girl
I was amused, too. I'll definitely watch next week. At least there's something decent on between South Park and the Daily Show (you couldn't pay me to watch Crank Yankers, wasn't this the time slot it started in?).

The funniest bit was definitely the song. And I have to say I was a bit disappointed that it was ending with them fighting not making out, which they eventually did, but we didn't see. Which I think is even better because seeing their tongues was slightly distrubing.

Also, WORD on Toot being Frankie -- she was even sitting on the stairs cutting during one of the montages.
catndahat
I had hopes that this would be something different and even cool, but god- that was the longest 30 minutes of my life. I kept looking at the clock, mentally willing the Daily Show to come on faster.

I laughed at how incredibly bigoted the Princess was, but they drove that joke into the ground. The song was kinda funny, but all in all the pacing was just weird. As was said before, it doesn't know if it wants to be a reality show with parodies of cartoons, or a cartoon parody of reality show. So far it just looks like the kind of thing a bunch of guys with an eightball came up with on a sunday morning.

Toot was weird to me- I wish she had been more Betty Boop and less "girl who buys Betty Boop stuff at the Hot Topic".

Meh.

Though, does Cree Summers have to play every cartoon black girl in existance?

Yes. It's, like, a law or something.
silverdragon
Though, does Cree Summers have to play every cartoon black girl in existance? They couldn't find anyone else?

Cree Summer's is one of the WORST va in the business, IMO. I know about her credentials and all, but it doesn't take away that I can spot that woman voice a mile away. I thought most va can changed their voices fairly well for different characters, but Cree Summers is pretty lousy. Ands yes, why must she voice every black woman or kid?

Back on topic; The show tried too hard to be funny and that pig WAS useless and overplayed everything. Settle in between SP and the Daily Show most likely will make me watched, I supposed. Not sure if I'll remember if its even on next week. Or that I would even care.
BUFFYVOL
I "heh"d when I recognized "Frankie" and didn't know who the voice was for Foxxy.
I guess I'm not as clever as I thought. Oh well. I'll keep watching as long as MrV isn't home when it's on. I just don't wanna hear it.
bakaney
I only caught the tail end of this (the Disney musical montage of girl on girl smooching) and didn't know what to think one way or the other. But I caught the little Pokemon thingy and it amused me, so for now, I'll fall on the 'sort of like it' side. Unless, you know, I see the first part and it's so bad that it completely turns me off the show.

P.S. Was the Pokemon speaking in actual Japanese or was it made-up mumbling?
Dei
The previews for next week seem a little off, I mean the princess lifting up her dress and tentacles coming out? Ewww....

Well, the Disney princess she most resembles is the little mermaid, so I'm guessing that has something to do with the tentacles.

I'm not quite sure what I think of this show yet. It got some laughs out of me, but for the most part I didn't really care about it one way or another. Since I didn't flat out hate it (which wouldn't have necessarily have meant anything anyway, I hated the first week or two of Venture Brothers and now it's my favorite show) I'll give it another chance or two. Hopefully either the show'll get better, or I'll start liking one of the characters enough to want to follow what happens to them.
Invisible Green
The first episode of this was okay. It was mildly amusing, but I think they forgot to make it funny. Or make any of the characters particularly interesting. I might watch it again, it I have the time. It could improve a lot with some more development, I'm just not so sure that that'll happen.

But it didn't completely suck. It was at least somewhat amusing.

The thing that bugged me the most was the lack of coherent plot structure. Each scene was like "quick set-up, joke, cut to next scene," which gave the show an abrupt, jumpy feeling. Few of the scenes were thoroughly developed. And the jokes, in general, just weren't funny. But it was well-animated, and the voice-cast was decent.

So, hopefully the show'll get better, but I won't be sticking around to watch.

Overall, it seemed like it was trying too hard to make me laugh, and it wasn't working. For some reason, I did find the video game guy funny... his name escapes me all of a sudden. The whole "never-ending quest for my girlfriend" thing was on the amusing side.

The song was okay, but the only part of it that was actually funny was the line about the earrings.

The pig is dumb, and so is the.. Wingbat? He just seems pointless.

Something about Toot bothered me... I think it's just cause I have a soft spot for Betty Boop, but I think it would've been funnier if she'd been crazily perky like Betty, or maybe really oddly old-fashioned, and not this sad Frankie clone.

I don't know. I'll give it one more week, but if it continues to only slightly amuse me, I'm done with it.
MegaJ
Though, does Cree Summers have to play every cartoon black girl in existance? They couldn't find anyone else?

I can't think of anyone else besides Raven and Kyla Pratt who voice anything on the Disney Channel and whatever else Disney whores them out to.

I think Cree Summers is a great VA, she played Terry's friend in Batman Beyond.
theatremouse
Tuned in three seconds before the song and thought it was hilarious.
Also thought Link-clone was pretty funny, but it'll probably get old faster than I'd hope.

The pig is pointless and unfunny.

The pokemon sounded like gibberish to me, but then it could've just been garbled (or expletives I'm unfamiliar with).

Did not like Toot. Freaked me out, and not in a remotely close to being amusing kinda way.

I think the show has potential. Its goal is sound, just whether it's accomplished is incredibly up in the air.
CoyoteBlue
"Darabisi, Pig. Darabisi."

Love the Ling-Ling.

It's kinda Ren 'n' Stimpy-ish, and I find it amusing enough to keep watching since I don't expect it to have a plot and flow together well or anything.
Penfold
I think Cree Summers is a great VA...

She totally rocked as Elmyra on Tiny Toon Adventures.

I wanted to watch this, but balked after Entertainment Weekly gave it an F. Sounds like I didn't miss much. If people want to watch some cartoon parody, they can flip over to the far superior Harvey Birdman.
rianaMartin
P.S. Was the Pokemon speaking in actual Japanese or was it made-up mumbling?

If that was real Japanese, it was like no Japanese I've ever heard. I'm thinking it's just gibberish, since they're parodying Pokeman, and the Pokeman characters don't speak real Japanese either.
Paul2k
In defense of the show against the F rating in Entertainment Weekly, I think if Dalton Ross were still doing the What to Watch section of the mag, he would've given it a better review. I miss good ol' DR in that section; while Alynda Wheat is infinitely better than Jessica Shaw, I haven't found her bits to be as funny or as in tune with my tastes as Dalton's were. Drawn Together being reviewed by Alynda just seemed like a bad fit, you know; definitely more of a Dalton thing.

And for those of you on the fence about the show, the pilot was uneven, but it definitely gets a lot funnier with episode 2. And it pushes even more boundaries, so be forewarned if you get easily offended.
Le Cerf
I thought it was pretty good for a first episode, although it wasn't as funny as it could have been. I don't find pooping in canteloupes to be all that entertaining, so that might diminish my enjoyment of the show.

Am I a bad person if I can see the humor in secret cutting?
mtvcdm
This looks to me like a particularly tragic case of "Right Show, Wrong Network". You've got a good concept (animated reality show), something that, handled correctly, can really take off... and then it has the misfortune to get stuck on a network that has no clue how to use the concept correctly (Comedy Central). Forever Eden's the best other example of it.
Bungalow Joy
I thought there were some hi-LAR-ious moments. But it's still just a contrivance. If this is a lampoon of reality shows it would be much better to add one more dimension: Let it be known that each character was individually conceptualized by a separate team of writer/artist, and an episode was created using the "add the next paragraph to this story and pass it on" method of writing, letting the individual artists draw their own characters' reactions.

Surreal World meets South Park.
LoveMeSomeTV
I loved it. I love animation, cartoons, Disney, anime all of it and I love reality TV and its such a send up of all those things. Are the jokes kinda predictable, yeah especially with the gay character who bugs. But I love the pikachu, and the disney duet, I dont know. Just made me laugh.
Le Cerf
I think that "She flip-flops more than the shoes of the same name" will be my new catchphrase. Let's hope opponents of John Kerry don't catch wind of that before the election.

My friend and I now refer to men we believe to be closeted homosexuals by saying "he's on a never-ending quest to save his girlfriend."
Danaide
I'm giving this show two more chances. I did NOT think the cutting was funny (until someone who watched the real world put it in context) because it hit too close to home, and I thought 90% of Spanky Ham's bits were revolting. The 'defecating into a canteloupe' bit was so much funnier in the previews without the nasty sound effects. Not that it was super funny before, but still. I also thought that a lot of jokes were ruined because the pacing was off.

However, I love Xandir and Ling-Ling and Foxxy. Clara has promise, but they've run the bigot thing into the ground. I also love some of the jokes that aren't directly character driven, like when Captain Hero said in the confessional that all Xandir ever said was "I'm on a never-ending quest to save my girlfriend." It really cracked me up that they then showed a montage of Xandir saying things like "where are the paper towels?" and "grapes are fun!" and Captain Hero responded with "dicks!" and stormed off. Awesome.

And at the end of the day, I like the concept, although i think it needs to be more focused. And the carnage when Ling-Ling attacked Toot - a little much. I think they need to figure out whether they're more interested in making is laugh or grossing us out/offending us. That whole thing would've been much funnier, IMHO, if they'd cut to the next scene right after Ling-Ling leapt onto Toot, they could even black out the screen with her blood. The bit with the cheese wiz, and the slicing and mutilating lasting so long...not necessary. Bones in Ling-Ling's teeth was a funny-ish callback.

So it's earned another two chances. I guess not all shows can be bebop-awesome-from-the-start.
Lantern7
In the preview, I saw Ling-Ling go up against a three-headed dragon. A homeage/ripoff of YGO's Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon? Here's hopin'.

Spanky = Oolong from "Dragonball" fame? He was a perverted pig as well.
Skip Intro
I kind of liked the first episode, but this one was much better. Loved the M.C. Escher room, Foxxy misinterpreting Clara’s interpretive dance, and the early ’70s Hanna-Barbera–style song break. Overall the pacing was greatly improved, and the show was more consistent with the logic and behavior of cartoons like Looney Tunes, such as the “Do Not Disturb” sign being so effective in repelling the attackers. Even the Bachelor parody was pretty good, too, especially Octopussoir getting its (her?) own confessional. And is it telling that the two heroes were both afraid of Clara’s giggy?

“Hmm. This vagina sure could use a woman’s touch.” This has got to become a t-shirt.
MegaJ
This show is completely awful.
Lantern7
Bleh. I mean, the Escher room was funny, as was Clara's cluelessness, the live sex demostration and the "Bachelor" riff...but it's basically "Look! We got tentacles coming out of her hoo-hah! Isn't cable motherfuckin' great or what?!??" It wasn't that bad, but a letdown from last week. Or maybe I'm more drawn towards Xandir's budding gayness.

Neat touch from last week: Xandir calling a whirlwind to go away, just like Link. We all did that back in the day, right?
Vulpes82
I'm sorry, but I love this show!!! The Escher room and the old running in and out of doors routine and the "Threepio!" and Ling-Ling and... I could just go on! I think they sometimes try a little too hard to shock, but overall I just think it's hilarious and a lot smarter than it looks on the surface. Gotta love the "Josie and the Pussycats"-esque musical number!!!
MrX
I liked it a lot more than last week. I wouldn't mind seeing what they do with this show.
Danaide
I thought this episode was MILES better than the last one. The last one had enough parts that were funny/offensive and not just offensive that i decided to give it a few more chances. Like when the editors screwed over Captain Hero's confessional? Awesome.

Clara was great this episode, and I like devious Toot (as opposed to needy/mutilatey Toot). The whole front end of the show was hilarious, but the second half went on too long about the tentacles. the bachelorette spoof was pretty cool, but i think the 'lifting' of the curse should've been to just switch the tentacles to prince charming and have clara be normal. then when the prince is all "where is my penis?! this is not charming!" clara could've offered to train them for him, and sing a song about their life together, complete with montages of clara and the prince and the happily ever after. And then, when that's over, there could be a pause, and then he'd blow his head off anyway.

Finally, hooraaaaay for Foxxy and hooooray for the toned-down pig. ooh, and double hooray for Ling-Ling, as he's clearly the most well-adjusted of the housemates. and super-precious.

sorry if that post was a little incoherent, my sleeping pill kicked in about 20 minutes ago.
zapmonkey
So far, I am cautious, but I have to admit I loved the Escher room, the tentacles playing patty-cake and the rose announcement by the pig. Still at the level of clever teenager, but I felt the same about South Park and it has grown over the years. As both a cartoon and reality show geek, and as long as it's the lead-in to The Daily Show, I'll- watch again.
Jeffurry
I still think this show is hilarious. One thing that got me was that when Foxxy was explaining the peepee and the giggy, the two figures looked just like the ones in the books "Where Did I Come From?" and "What's Happening to Me?" that my parents gave my brother and me when we were kids.

Also...I loved seeing the only logical conclusion for Shrek: Fiona shooting herself in the head.

I love those '70s cartoon songs; am I the only one who breaks into

This show needs to calm. The fuck. Down.

Lalalala Labia

That song won't leave my head. Arrrg!
marlaas
I'm in the minority here, but I thought this episode was worse than the first one. (and, in all honesty, I wasn't thinking the first was exactly Emmy-worthy). ITA with those who claim that there's just too much going on. An animated parody of a reality show would be great, as would a parody of animation/Fairy Tale cliches, but they're trying to attempt both and, IMO, the result is a manic, incoherent mess.
erzulie
Marlaas, I'm right there in the minority with you. The first episode made me laugh a few times...this one did not. It was just trying way too hard; the labia song summed it up perfectly for me - just referencing vaginas because you can doesn't make it funny.
This reminded me of Family Guy with the really broad, scattershot humor and smug attitude toward its own naughtiness. But lots of people love that Family Guy, so maybe this show will be around forever undeservedly, too.

eta - I did like the live sex demonstration, though.
joanne3482
This was the 1st episode I watched. I liked the beginning of the episode. I loved the little pikachu thing all pissed off about having to do all the dishes. I liked snarky Toot. By the end I thought, ok gone too far. I hate vomit humor and the tentacles just got to be too much.
Danaide
I agree - I do think they're trying to do too much, they need to focus more, and I also agree with the above post in that the first half was much funnier. I was watching it and some of my suitemates came in, and I told them it was better than last week. Unfortunately, they came in at roughly the halfway point, so I ended up getting to do the whole superlame "..um, it was funny earlier, I swear..." thing. If the rest of the series is like the first half of this last one, I'll watch. I mean, it does lead in to the Daily Show.
pablito
I liked this week's episode much better than last week's. Pacing made it work more than the first one. I agree that the first half was a lot better than the second, but at least we know that there is an intention to be a parody of reality shows even if it is an afterthought.

Two things I loved, the Escher room, and then this week's song and dance number. I was afraid that last week's song was a one time deal and they wrote the entire episode just to lead up to that one gem. This week's song wasn't great, but I loved how their singing suddenly faded away even though they were all lip-synching at full force.
ashanta
I really liked this episode too, but then again, I liked the last one. I agree that some of the jokes seem a little too long and they try to cram in too many jokes at once, but overall it doesn't bug me too much. And since I'm fastly growing to like Xandir, I think I'll like next week's episode as well.

(Nice to see some equal opportunity HoYay; first Clara and Foxxy, and now Clara's rejected suitors.)
ciscokidinsf
Yeah, finally caught the episode yesterday, and yes, not an improvement, and too damn scattered. The whole monster vagina (Octopussey) was stretched to the limit. I actually wanted Foxxy to say, ew! I ain't going down on her!

At least they toned down the pig, 'cause he was too damn much on the first episode.

I'll try another couple of episodes, but it better improve soon.
