A brand new season has started for my favorite show on the Style Network. Will Jung go mad with power? Was Mary Dann's child therapy degree the smartest decision for her chosen profession as wedding coordinator? I say "yes". Will Steve Kemble ever stop talking over his clients? And will Jim ever put air conditioning in his strip mall wedding chapel?
ElectricalStorm
God, I love this show.

And I just realize I missed it. Dammit.
Baby Fish Mouth
I can't believe how addicted I am to this show. I first discovered it during a marathon this summer, and it's worse than crack.

I suppose that if I had to choose one coordinator for my own wedding, it would be Mary Dann. Jung is just too cold and abrasive, although she gets shit done and that counts for a lot. I forget all their names, but the redhead coordinator who got married in Vegas is a little too spacey, and the debutante from Dallas...I don't know, I have no words for someone who throws away thousands of dollars on doggy patio parties.

Is Steve Kemble the blonde guy? He makes me really tired. Were I the bride, I would kill him within thirty seconds.
ElectricalStorm
My mother and I watch the show together and she promises me to fly Jung down to Maryland (where I live) to do my wedding :-/ Whatever Mom.

I agree with Baby FM, Jung's too cold. She's great at what she does but I'd want a planner who's loose and fun. That, and Steve Kembel's annoying as hell.

I'm very picky of all the planners. Kevin Covey and Mary Dann are the planners I'd most want for my wedding. Everyone else I'm just meh on. Kim Bradford doesn't seem too assertive and tough enough (i.e. the persian wedding), and I can't judge Kim Schlegel's work cause we haven't seen her do any weddings, but if she puts all that crap into a doggie party, then I don't want to imagine how nutty a regular wedding would be from her. And the new guy, Jeffrey, bugs me. And what was up with the other planner he was working with in the season premire? She looks like she should be trading stocks.

End of Rant...wait, one more thing:

I hope Jim Rich isn't featured on the show anymore. "Adorable weddings" my arse.
Baby Fish Mouth
Ah, thanks for refreshing my memory regarding the coordinators' names, Electrical Storm.

I'm really fascinated by Kim Schlegel because she comes from such a different world. What really amused me was the skinny blonde whose wedding Kim was planning...they must have gone to a dozen different places over the course of last season and the future groom was never there. I think they showed him for a very brief instant during the engagement party, but clearly that wedding was all about the bride and her mother.

I don't remember seeing any extremely bitchy brides, but there was one bride who completely freaked out at one of Jung's weddings because the videographer was standing in the wrong place or something. It was really funny watching Jung trying to calm her down.
Hairymango
I hope Jim Rich isn't featured on the show anymore. "Adorable weddings" my arse.

I would cry bitter bitter tears if my wedding were being held at his sweaty little strip mall hole in the wall. Any City Hall has got to be better than that.

Jung may be a bitch, but if I were in the middle of all that wedding chaos, I'd want that bitch on my side. I love her portfolio. I still feel sorry for that groom who was denied his car shaped wedding cake. Yeesh, it's probably the one thing the poor man asked for in the entire process. The bride should have gone to bat for him.

I love Mary Dann, cool, calm and competant. Nice combo. Her client list is high end, but she needs a better website.

Steve is nuts. But I wouldn't mind working with him. Well, maybe I would.
Missy173
I hope Jim Rich isn't featured on the show anymore. "Adorable weddings" my arse.

Aww, but then we wouldn't get to see how the other class lives.

Apparently Steve Kemble is really successful but I wouldn't know how, I haven't seen him do any work. Ohmigod I couldn't believe when he followed the one couple all the way up to the bridal suite. Jung gets too involved too. She was really pushy at her other friends wedding. I mean sure it could have been complete chaos but it might not have been too. She's really good at getting things done though. I luurve Kevin Covey. Him and his friend are so cute together. Its nice that they get to keep each other company. Mary Dann seems nice but she's not particularly entertaining. Gah, Kim Bradford is just weird, and Kim Schlegel is a horses ass.

I can't say much about any of the new planners, except that one who looked like she might practice S&M.
ElectricalStorm
I luurve Kevin Covey. Him and his friend are so cute together. Its nice that they get to keep each other company

Absolutely. I love Kevin and Gretchen. So much fun to watch. They both make sure everything's done right and the little wipes they have for stains was clever.

Mary Dann seems nice but she's not particularly entertaining.

I like her too, but you're right. She's very boring to watch.

Anyone know what went down on last weeks episode? I missed it and want details. Thanks.
Hairymango
The last episode focused on two new wedding planners. There was one Black wedding planner from Baltimore who had to deal with some annoying limo drivers who threatened to leave immediately if they weren't paid for overtime. There was also an Atlanta wedding planner who had to deal with a mildly taste challenged mother-of-the-bride who insisted on draping tulle over a lovely old fort that had lots of character and didn't need tulle. She also insisted on puttting mirrored plates with candles on every table despite the fact that the reception was being held outdoors with large fans that would blow out all the candles on the tables. In addition, she wanted candles in all the missing pieces of brick in the walls of the fort, which probably would look great at night but seemed like a major fire hazard to me. I kept imaging some guest leaning against a wall and going up like a tinderbox. But, I guess that didn't happen. Also, the wedding planner had to go to Alabama to get sparklers because it's illegal to sell them in Georgia. When she went to the store, she was looking at one set of fireworks and called them the "hillbilly" special, which I thought was somewhat rude until the camera panned to a sign which actually read "hillbilly special".

I liked both of the wedding planners, they seemed logical and capable, but the Atlanta one needs to reconsider what she should say about her clients while the cameras are rolling if she wants to keep her business going.
ElectricalStorm
Thanks hairymango. I live in Maryland and it's cool to have a planner working out of Baltimore.

I wish Style. would update their website. They still have all the old planners from last year up.

I saw caught previews for this Tuesday's episode during commercials. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Kevin will still be featured. :::crosses fingers:::

Am I the only one who watched Lisa and thought she was in the WRONG profession? She just seemed incredibly unhappy with her job, as though her mom was making her do it to earn money over the summer. Sure, Jung never smiles, but Jung enjoys fussing with the little details. This girl clearly didn't.

I heart Steve Kemble, but I agree with Baby Fish Mouth: watching him makes me tired. :)

ETA: After watching this week's episode, I'm pretty well convinced Lisa should not be a wedding planner. She seems nice enough, but she looks like she's headed for a root canal whenever she talks about an upcoming work-related task.
Junage
I'm excited to see other people who enjoy this show. I watched the first season all spring and summer. But then I moved north for school and comcast where I am now doesn't have Style! Sadness...

I too like Mary Dann. She seemed the most sane and together of all of them yet really nice too. Jung would be a great organizer but I'd be a littler scared of her.

I thought Jim's Adorable Weddings chapel was awesome! Not that I'd ever want to be married at a strip mall, but it was kind of sweet and touching to see how hard he worked at making sure the place looked good and how the brides and grooms really thought it was so wonderful. Plus, it's a stark contrast when one couple talks about spending $2000 on their wedding at Adorable Weddings and worries that it's too much versus Jung planning weddings that run into the six-digits and the cake costs $1000.

And I LOVED the donkeys! I thought they were great. The Iranian couple were really cool.

How is the 2nd season? Are any of the planners from the first season back?
Hairymango
Am I the only one who watched Lisa and thought she was in the WRONG profession?

I think Lisa is new to wedding planning. I also think she is lacking a staff so she needs Jung and Steve's ability to grab a client and say, "We're going to do this. You don't want to do that" and make them think it was their idea.

So far this season we've seen Mary Dann (I think) and the other redheaded LA planner from last season. There was a southern wedding planner from Arkansas (?) on last episode, whom I think we have before. No sign of Jim's not-so-adorable chapel (thank you, producers)! Inexpensive is one thing, cheap, sweaty and tasteless is another.
Baby Fish Mouth
One of the last episodes featured Lisa planning her first Indian wedding, and she admitted that she has little experience with multicultural weddings. I think she just needs to learn more patience and realize that it's not the end of the world if things don't happen exactly according to schedule. Although I really empathized with her when she was trying to get through the rehearsal and all the guys in the wedding party were talking on their cell phones.

I think the most entertaining mother of the bride ever was the one from L.A. whose daughter had the really expensive wedding...joking about getting drunk and taking her pants off...now there's a fun mother of the bride.
Hairymango
That L.A. wedding with the potentially pantsless mother was well into the six figures because it was held at the Skirball Center. I'm just wondering what they get for their money.
jmsteve
I think Lisa is new to wedding planning.

Didn't Lisa say she'd been doing it for three years? Granted, that's not a long time and it sucks not to have a staff, but I look at it this way. Assuming business is slow and she only does one wedding a month, that's still 24-36 weddings under her belt. She still seems pretty uncomfortable/tense, even at the end of the night, when there's nothing left to worry about. Maybe that's her happy face, but for right now, I want to put her out of her misery.
Baby Fish Mouth
I hope someone else saw this week's episode in which the Atlanta couple ended up calling off the wedding four days before it was supposed to take place. They fought the whole time and there seemed to be a lot of mutual hatred and disgust, but I was still surprised when they called it off.

The Baltimore wedding planner kicks ASS. No way would I want to be late to one of her weddings.
jmsteve
I didn't see the whole episode. Every time I flipped to it, though, the Atlanta chick was ripping into her fiance. She was such a raging bitch. Did he fight back at all? Still, I was surprised, too, when they called it off. I wonder if we'll see more of them in a future episode.
Baby Fish Mouth
The Atlanta bitch's fiance did fight back a little. When she complained about his lack of dance floor coordination, he pointed out that he doesn't have 16 years of dance training like her. When she bitched about his tux, he said he didn't think the tux really mattered. But basically you could tell this is a guy who has pretty much let his girlfriend walk all over him most of the time. I hope he was the one who snapped out of it and dumped her.
kae71463
I wanted some sort of update about the bitchy ATL bride. I could just here "ding dong the withc is dead" being sung in the planners heads...jeez...I felt so sorry for her fiance, but at least he was smart enough to get out of it, twice. I wonder how much money was lost over the whole thing, weddings are such a scam!
Hairymango
Holy Crap! I can't believe I missed this. A cancelled wedding. That's so rare. Most people just go through with it, even as disaster looms.
ByrdGal
I'm so glad to find a thread for this show! I'm such an addict. I got hooked during the marathon a few weeks ago.

In the previews when they talked about how her daughter was a princess, I fully expected to hate them. But no. Her Mom was a hoot. If I had a Mom like that I would be my more flaming gay male friends best hag for life.

And I kind of miss Jim too. If not for the Persian and Indian couples the brides from the other planners brides were all blondes who wore strapless dresses. He had couples who wed for the same traditional reason that many people I know have also wed for. Because she's pregnant.
Hairymango
I miss scary ass Jung.
abwass
There's a thread for this show! I've never watched it (though it sounds addictive) -- next week's episode will cover a wedding I was at last summer (or at least it's supposed to). It'll be very interesting to see how they edit it...the wedding was very cool, a Hindu-Jewish interfaith ceremony.
Hairymango
Yay, they showed scary ass Jung. This is the first time we hear about her having a kid. I wonder if this happened between tapings? I don't know how much time elapsed in between the seasons.

I can't imagine being brained by a makeshift chupa. I wonder if the designer carries insurance for that possibility.
abwass
Wow, Jung is SCARY. I've gotta start watching this show regularly.

So, I had no idea the Chuppah collapsed right before the wedding...though I was a bit disappointed that they didn't show the massive thunderstorm that hit approximately 2 minutes after everyone went inside for the reception (there were a lot of worried faces during the ceremony)...or the fact that they played the Ohio State fight song for the recessional (yeah, I loved that, I'm a dork). That said, I thought Jeffrey was very nice (and snarky!) in person.
jmsteve
I think we've seen baby Jung before. In the episode where she and Mr. Jung go to Puerto Rico for her friend's wedding.

I missed the episode. Would someone mind filling me in on Jung's latest scary exploits? :)
texaslynn
The marathon of this show was on today and it was great! Atlanta self-proclaimed princess BITCH was the worst!! I was so glad when they canceled the wedding. Wasn't it canceled just FOUR DAYS before the wedding date or did I see it wrong? You surely wouldn't get back much of your money that close to the date.

I also liked the African-Am. wedding planner. I couldn't believe that one wedding where there were twenty-five bridesmaids and groomsmen. That would look ridiculous for royalty, and the bride and groom were just school teachers (like me). Also, with that many people up front, you can't even see the bride and groom. However, I think the planner did a good job with staging it.

I missed some of the one with the wedding on the beach. I saw the first part where the bride and groom seemed really laid-back and pretty much everything the planner showed them was fine with them. Not stuck-up at all. I saw a preview for the last 15 min. of the episode and the planner was telling them that only 10 people showed up for their wedding. I was taping it and the tape stopped there! Did anyone see what happened next? Did just 10 people show up?
Hairymango
I missed the cancelled wedding, again!!! Damn!
jmsteve
More people showed up, texaslynn. I think there was just a traffic problem, but they had a full house by the time the bride walked down the aisle.

I finally saw the one with the falling huppah. I kept waiting for it to fall ON the bride and groom during the ceremony. Is it wrong that I was a little bummed it didn't? :)

I'm not enjoying the Baltimore wedding planner for some reason. I couldn't tell you why though.
Hairymango
I like her too. It's her-take-no-guff attitude. I'd kind of like to see her and Jung face off and then team up to fight crime.
KaKa
I caught this show for the first time yesterday, thank god I found this thread! I can't tell you how many times I screamed "What a Bitch!" at my tv screen yesterday! Me thinks Sarah (wasn't that cancelled wedding bitch's name) doesn't really mean princess but means big, fat, obnoxious bitch instead. Could she have insulted her fiance any more? Saying that he looked like he belonged in a circus in his tuxedo. UGH! Hate! I hope he was the one who called off that charade of a relationship and ran for the hills. She needs to take a good hard look in the mirror. I hope that show embarrassed her, she should be ashamed of herself!
texaslynn
Thank you jmsteve for the update. I liked that particular couple and was hoping it turned out fine for them.

KaKa, total agreement! My husband walked by when Sarah was on and he said, "Who's the COW?" She was just the most obnoxious person I have seen on reality TV in a long time. Why would a man tolerate her mean criticism, constant nagging, and way over-inflated ego for even a moment?? Didn't he have friends that would take him aside and slap him into reality about her? I was relieved when it was canceled, not just for the poor groom's sake, but I kept thinking about them having kids together in the future and what a terrible mother she would be. Unfortunately, seeing herself on the show will probably not change her at all. Women like that think it is so cute to play the "I deserve the world" diva act and the attitude probably works to her advantage at times, thereby reinforcing it.

I liked how the planners poured some wine and toasted when they heard the wedding was canceled. They came off as very gracious about the couple- "Let's hope they end up together later on" but you KNOW they had choice things to say after the cameras were off.
Kristi1972
I am disturbingly excited that this show has a thread! It's totally addictive. I think I probably saw all of the first season episodes, but I keep missing the new ones. I did manage to see the one they aired Friday with Jung and the giant Hungarian (?) model/bride and the new planner with the sweaty couple who got married outside in Atlanta in August. I guess I missed a marathon the day after Christmas, but that's probably a good thing, as it was my son's 5th birthday, and he would have resented my being glued to the TV all day!

I am way late to this party, but I only started watching it! I usually can only watch it on my days off (when the reruns show at 4 pm), but now I'm home in the evenings to catch new ones!

or the fact that they played the Ohio State fight song for the recessional

When did this happen? Were these old people? Young people? From Ohio? I was in the band and this is a pretty common thing. I just wonder if I knew them. Because Ohio State is such a small school! (kidding.)

I have only seen two new episodes (reruns are mostly season 1, I guess--I didn't even know there were multiple seasons). I used to love all the planners, but then I decided that they are really time obsessed. I've never planned a wedding, so I don't know how crucial it would be to start right on time (besides annoyed guests who were probably late anyway--I'm thinking of Kimberly Bradford's Persian Wedding), and then have to make up time in the appetizer hour? For a reception that went on until the wee hours of the morning anyway?

I hope this thread comes back to life! I think this show is hilarious and I want to talk about it!
WedsAddams
I recently planned my own wedding, and yes, timing is essential. In a typical wedding day, you have to get everyone dressed and ready (ever gotten 5-8 women organized, dressed, and ready without a major catfight?), take photos, have a ceremony, cocktail hour, take more photos, arrival of the wedding party, meal, first dance, cake cutting, etc. If one thing falls behind, everything else does as well. In our case, we had to move everyone to the buffet to eat so the food wouldn't get soggy and cold. Just for my tiny, informal, 60-person wedding, we had a two-page schedule breaking the day into 15-minute increments.

I always find it funny that the wedding couple is so unconcerned about time. Though I imagine that's why the planner is there, to go crazy over details.

What I love about that show is how many planners wear white suits to weddings. First of all, it's not very practical because white gets dirty. Second, who on earth wears all white to a wedding? Tacky tacky to upstage the bride like that, especially when you're there to work.
dcnative
I love this show as well. Does anyone know if they are going to be showing any new episodes? Watching this show is making me want to get into the buisness.
Phenobarbara
Does anyone know if they are going to be showing any new episodes?

I sure hope so! I love this show. I have no interest in having a wedding, so this show fascinates me in a weird way.
lovelinus
Fans of Steve Kemble (there's gotta be one somewhere, right?) will be glad to know he's going to be on TLC's new show Sheer Dallas. He was the Dallas planner with the over-the-top wardrobe who tried to spend the night with one newlywed couple.
buckeyegirl
Today's show was the one where Kimberly Bradford got married. Have they just always been calling her by her married name? Or is her last name Bradford and her fiance's name Bradford also? Never mind. I just saw the Albrecht/Bradford wedding thing. Anyway, I loved how she was talking about Karl's bachelor party at a stripper joint and she just says as perky as can be, "And he got a hummer!" Cut to scene of him getting into a Humvee stretch. Ha! I was a little surprised to see that Kimberly smokes, though. That probably won't help the teeth whitening job she just got.

And Kim Schlegel just screams Charlotte York to me.
brownSugar
Kim Schlegel got married in Dallas on April 2, which is probably she isn't heavily featured in the past season. D Magazine had a huge spread on it. You can find it here: http://www.dmagazine.com/article.asp?articleid=871

The new season starts tonight at 10 p.m. central! :)
LurkerNoMore
I think there was a marathon on over the Memorial Day holiday, and I totally missed it!!! Caught maybe 10 minutes of the last episode. Drat.

Just set TiVo to record this. Now that the 'regular/traditional' TV season is over, I need something else to obsess over.
Missy173
I noticed a new format in the beginning of the show with the panel of info on the planner. I'm happy to see the new season has started. I really enjoy watching all the drama. This has to be the best episode of this season. I can't believe the bride Jenna wouldn't show up to her appointments. What is wrong with her. First she skips the cake tasting (who does that!) and then she's two hours late to her dress fitting. I'm surprised Ivy didn't start scheduling everything two hours late and give her fake time. I glad she pulled it off without Jenna. I really disliked the other planner Veesa. Admittedly it does suck that she had to pay all the expenses the day-of, but she was the most unhelpful planner thus far. Instead of actually helping the bride Jessica, she made things worse. Has she never heard of the signature frame. I really don't think she was listening to Jessica who picked up on that right away. Poor Jessica on top of a crappy planner her dress didn't fit very well. I guess that's why you don't spend $7000 on a dress. Hmm I wonder if she felt she got the bathtime look she was going for.
Baby Fish Mouth
That perpetually-late bride from North Carolina was unbelievable. She seemed like a nice enough person, but people who are always that late (2 or more hours) seem to believe that other people's time isn't as valuable as their own. Thank god she managed to show up at the wedding on time.

I liked New York planner Visse a lot, and I was shocked at how much money she spent on that wedding. She was totally right when she said that she saved their wedding day. I know she has vendors that she can't screw over, but I have a feeling she might have to take legal action to get her money back. That groom obviously has serious financial problems, and he acted like it was no big deal at all. What a jerk. I wonder if his wife has any idea what she's gotten herself into.
dcnative
A new episode!!!!! With drama, and some actual REALITY!!! I only got bits a pieces thanks to the phone, but I can't believe that the bride had no clue that her future husband couldn't pay their bills, what does that predict for the marriage?

I wish we could have seen them 30 days later when the bills started rolling in.

I wonder if the original planners will be making appearances. I'd like to know if Lisa C. is even still in business.
tastykakes_00
I'd like to know if Lisa C. is even still in business.

I highly doubt it if any of the brides/families she worked with on the show saw what she had to say about them.

I wonder if any of the planners from the past seasons are going to come back.
