For E! celebrity interviewer Jules Asner, comedienne Lynne Koplitz, single mother and VH1 correspondent Cynthia Garrett, and entrepreneur Kimora Lee Simmons, life is always up for discussion. Drawing from their varied experiences, "Life and Style" reveals all the hottest trends and celebrity news, divulges relationship secrets and enlightens us about the relevant issues facing women today.
I found the first two episodes boring and awkward. Discuss.

I happened to turn by this and thought it was an infomercial. I watched for a while when I recognized a few faces I thought were all out of work. But it was a lttle slow so I turned away.

Kimora's sistahgirl face (usually preceeded by "honey" or "gurl" and finger waving) makes me want to slap her.
Actually, now that I think about it I always want to slap her.
I would have been so upset if I let that bubble neck pull me off the street to try on jeans and I got stuck with the pair of Baby Phats.

Did you guys see an interview w/ Kimora about this show? Talking about her fashions, and how girls want her life and she's giving them some of that bling. The interviewer reminds Kimora that her success came from her looks, and then marrying well, and shouldn't she be encouraging education and empowerment if, say, the modeling thing doesn't work out for 99.9% of the girls in the world. Kimora got huffy, saying that it was just fashion, and was supposed to be fun (because, girls, learning is not fun.)

Yes, I too would enjoy reading (or watching) this interview, lyz2814.
Against my better judgement, I've been watching/TiVo-ing this show the entire week. One thought: "Life and Style" ought to be renamed "Baloney and Bupkis," because that's essentially what it is. Poster upthread who thought it was an infomercial?
WORD. Not so much because they pimp products, but the overall feel of the production is so tacky and infomercial-y. And, may I ask ... what the eff is up with Jules Asner's hair? Is she channelling the '50s or something? Why is it always so poufy? Additionally, that Lynn chick, the one who tries to be funny, really needs to shut it. She is not, nor will she ever be, Joy Behar (who, coincidentally, is also un-funny the majority of the time, but at least forms a coherent thought occasionally).

It's not just you--I've noticed that as well. There is always a makeover segment with Kimora. There is always a medical procedure segment with Cynthia. There is always some sort of sex segment, i.e., some stupid sex toy. It's the same show every night.

I may be biased since I have burning irrational hate for Kimora, but who thought it was a good idea to have this stupid egotistical money hungry beard on a talk show? She has a voice like nails on a chalkboard, and she has a bit of a lisp. Okay for Baba Wawa, not so much for Miss Baby Phat.

I really enjoyed Jules on E! and always thought she was beautiful. However, I get really distracted on this show. Because every five seconds, I'm wondering if she's had some nips and tucks since then. Specifically her nose. Between that and the neck, I'm going to get whiplash watching this show.

This shit is still on? Word to everyone who mentioned the cheesy production values. I have vampiric sleeping habits and I caught an episode one night (it comes on at 3 am here). I half expected Ron Popeil to run out and yell, "set it and forget it!"
Seriously, it was really lame. The only reason I kept it on was because my girl Sandra "SLop" Lee was on making "sensual treats" or some shit and boy she didn't disappoint bringing the nasty. I don't know what was funnier, Kimora & friends gushing over it like it was the best thing ever or SLop desperately trying to act like she was BFF with them. I swear she was acting like she was auditioning to be on their crappy show...well she does want to be a "lifestyle guru". It was so pathetic.
For all the talk of Kimora being Russell Simmons' beard, why does she look like a drag queen? Did they get married in Massachusetts?

Man, I caught this slapped-together pile of mindless fluff when I had insomnia one night. It was like having a waking nightmare. Koplitz is as funny as a yeast infection, Asner and Garrett are tied for Mayor of Dullsville, and Kimora--just ugh! She makes my skin crawl. Loves herself a whole lot, though.
There's nothing on this show we've haven't seen and heard before, a zillion times and a zillion years ago. Lame fashion tips, predictable pop psychology, and the absolute bottom of the food-tips barrel: Semi-Ho Sandra Lee. Yawn.
I think Kimora's hubby bought her the show to keep her out of the penthouse. In fact, I read recently that he thinks she should be featured more prominently than the other gals, because she's the cutest and funniest. Bet that made for some lovely moments on set.
Gloworm
Oct 29, 2004 @ 7:09 pm
Koplitz's speech impediment or whatever is going on up there is rather distracting.
Or maybe it's the fact that she isn't funny.
If I went into this show not having read the FT thread on Kimora...I may find her somewhat agreeable.
I think Jules Asner is so purdy. (*ducks*)
Bur boring.
They aren't really bringing anything new to daytime TV.
And even if the topics are tired...the new hosts aren't to most viewers...but in this case, they're tired too.

I have not seen this show, but I just came here for the snark. I can also attest to the bitchiness that is Kimora. Several years ago I worked for a health care company, and we took care of Kimora when she was pregnant. She would not sign for herself or allow another family member to do so even though we were required by law to get her signature. The nurses that took care of her pretty much said that she would not even speak directly to them. She would speak with one of her underlings and they would convey what she was saying, even though the nurse would be standing right there. All any of them could say was that she was a complete bitch.

I went to a taping of this show. I went in feeling about Kimora much how the rest of the board feels and came out liking her the best with Lynn (although I can't say I loved any of them). When they weren't taping Kimora and Lynn were always talking to the audience, going up into the audience, making jokes and compliments, Cynthia also did this often too. Jules would sit on stage in her chair and never addressed the audience when they weren't taping and didn't talk to the other girls when they weren't taping and always had her hair and makeup fixed. Maybe she was having a bad day.... Kimora and Jules argued the most (friendly) over lines and Kimora messed up the most, I don't think she got through a single line with one take. They also filmed multiple show segments out of order and split it across various days. It was a long day, I got there in the morning and didn't leave until 5... This was two months ago, though, and a friend has gone since and said they are much better (quicker) at taping now.

I saw that the FT boards are shut down but I'm dying to snark on Kimora's profile in the April Vanity Fair. If anyone can lead me to the refugee camp, I'd be much obliged. You can e-mail me if you don't want to post it.
Anyway, Russell thinks that the show is bad for business and over-extends her.
She came off soooo bad. Hee! She kept constantly saying that she'll "beat a bitch's ass" who trys to flirt with Russell and she doesn't like those disrespectful hos. She talks sbout how Russell had cheated on her in the past.
She remarks on how many milions she makes through Baby Phat, and how she's an independent business woman, blah, blah, blah.
She's working on a line of Kimora Barbie dolls- don't ask.
She said that a half-million dollar emerald ring, bracelet and necklace set was "very reasonable" and she looked over a $150k (Hermes?) carry-on bag but decided not to buy it.
Russell is Mr. Yoga/Vegan whatever and I'm surprised the marriage is lasting so long.
I wish they would have added some of her old "muse of Chanel" photos but it was the typical "look at me, my kids, and our mansion" photos that she always does. One thing I have to give her- she does dress the 5 yr. old very little girl-ish in little pink short-sleeved dresses. She doesn't put them in jr. skankwear.

Yeah, I can imagine what they'll look like...remember when you had a Barbie Doll as a kid and you took the head of and put it back on...but the head went too far down the neck and it looked like a squishy sausage neck? Yes, it will be like that.

I laughed when the little girl said she wouldn't play with a Barbie, even a free Kimora Barbie since girls seem to like Bratz much better now.

I've never seen the show, but I just read the VF profile yesterday. My sister read it before me and said it just depressed her. I had a similar reaction. She's a rather pathetic person, really. And shrill. I've never seen someone come off so loud and shrill IN PRINT, for Jeebus' sake.

Mar 22, 2005 @ 11:25 am
Shrill is definitely the word. It's like she's mentally still that 17-yr. old model she was when she met Russell, but because of enormous wealth she comes off as successful and together. There seems to be little going on besides designing trashy clothes and spending money. It's just the worst kind of nouveau riche vapidity.

Did anybody watch the show today? Of course not!
Anyways, how rude were they to the lady whose husband is gay? The proper way that legit talk show hosts address guests is not "Oh My God...I can scream right now!!"
Even Sally Jesse has more tact than these girls.
Jules looks embarassed to be on this show.
Kimora doesn't listen. Example:
"She rented this skirt for $35. If she bought it, she would have paid $1000"
Kimora:"Hear that, ladies? $1000 for that skirt!! How much was it to rent it?"
No words.

The show has mercifully been cancelled. If you check 3/28's PageSix, it has some delicious inside gossip concerning the heinous antics of one Kimora Lee Simmons. Apparently, she steals from the set, licks entire deliveries of donuts so that no one else can eat any, and has a nosy, pushy, and demanding husband. It's a super-good (and copyrighted) article. Check it out.

My friend and I are apparently the only ones that LOVE this show! Naturally, it gets cancelled. I won't pretend that it's even remotely good, as the studio audience always looks bored as hell until they notice the camera is on them and Jules Asner is way too professional to be interviewing stuck-up celebrity chefs. That said, I like Lynn and think her stand-up is really funny, but that on this show she seems like the odd woman out because she's the least made up.

It came on where I live at like 10am on channel 11. I was home one day and noticed that it wasn't listed. I wondered if it had been cancelled. Apparently so.
I didn't particularly like the show and I didn't particularly not like it either. It was there. I would watch if they had something interesting on.
