Storm Shadow
Hosted by one of America's most recognized and likeable television personalities, "The Tony Danza Show" is an entertaining one-hour talk show produced live daily from New York.

Guests will include actors, athletes, news-makers, and real people with interesting stories to tell. Tony will also highlight incredible kids, and get into the kitchen to cook some of his own favorite family recipes. This show will occasionally extend beyond the studio, as Tony gets up close and personal with people who are making a difference in our culture or just to have a little fun.

And he plays a guy named Tony.
Screamie
I heard that Erika "Apprentice" Vetrini will be the announcer. Bleh to all reality famewhores.

Wayne Brady 2: Electric Boogaloo

I was seriously hoping this was a joke. What station will be airing this nightmare?
iMissEthan
No. Just no.
GunnGrpee
My local ABC station has been running his show's promos non-stop. He comes across as trying way too hard to be "interesting energetic talk show guy". I may tape a few shows just to see if he starts off singing.

I wish he had stayed with doing the occassional Lifetime movie, and left me with my sweet memories of Tony from Taxi.
Irregardless
I want to throw things at my TV every time I see a promo for this. He's supposed to be any better than Wayne Brady?

I hope it doesn't last. Too bad he's not up against Ellen where I live, where he'd die a quick death.
dr gailey
I haven't seen a preview in my neck of the woods. Maybe we won't get him.
alex90028
The show is already doomed from the beginning, here in L.A., the 2nd biggest TV Market, it airs at 2.05 AM, how in the World can get this show any decent ratings?

On a positive note, only one more week until Ellen's 2 nd Season! Yeah!
O Wilde
He'll last about as long as Ryan Seacrest did - which was about 6 months.
ontheroof
Where I live, the promos are on all day long.

Although Tony tries to appear casual about it all, the whole thing just reeks of desperation and failure. The flop sweat is pouring off of him. It's comparable to the Matt LeBlanc situation, where he is hell bent on convincing us that he's all casual about the new show, yet he has this manic look in his eyes and it seems like he hasn't slept in six months.

On a positive note for Tony, at least the show is going to be live each day. I generally enjoy Ellen, but I don't watch her show because it's pre-taped and I can't stand her pretending it's a day that it isn't, or worse yet, all the winking that goes on about it. At least Tony will be able to talk about what's in the paper that day, or whatever -- which is the single thing that's interesting about other shows like Regis and Kelley or The View.

That is hilarious, so true about Tony and Matt.
TheCustomOfLife
It depressed me from the beginning, because from all the news stories I read, Wayne Brady was canceled with THE INTENT of replacing him with Tony Danza. My mom was like, "But no one likes Tony Danza."
Storm Shadow
I happened to catch a few minutes this morning and saw them playing Plinko. I actually kind of enjoyed it. I just kept hoping Tony wouldn't break out a song or start dancing.
SnowDog
My local station decided to replace Starting Over with the Tony Danza show. I hope it crashes and burns.
Toast8
This show is not too bad. I've been watching it as I get ready for work - hey my other choice is the Ali and Jack show. They need to can that Erika chick. She has a horrible voice.

He is no Wayne Brady though. I loved that show.

I haven't seen the show, but I have listened to it on the radio driving into work. It sucks, Tony sounds awkward and uncomfortable. The jokes fall flat, he has a major case of mush mouth and with the exception of Paris Hilton, so far he has only managed to book D-list celebs. Cancellation would be a kindness.
BibiBella
Tony sounds awkward and uncomfortable.

Mega-word. Even worse, he's a horrible interviewer - he talks so much that the person being interviewed can't get too much in. And he seems very nervous, hyper, too much manic energy and it seems all about him, not about his guests or anything else.

Ereka Ventrini (ex-Apprentice) looks bored as hell...she does the game board for their daily prize giveaway and then sits in a front row the rest of the show...occasionally Tony will call out to her, but that's it.
O Wilde
Mega-Mega-word!

And, gee, I wonder who he got (ie stole) the idea of dancing on his show from?? Getting mostly B-list celebrities is never a good sign. That's who Sharon Osbourne was getting. I never heard of two-thirds of the people she had on her show. That's one of the reasons her show tanked.

I am continually amazed by the people that are hired to do talk shows. The best ones - Letterman, Ellen, Jon Stewart, Conan, Carson, et al, have comedic backgrounds, usually in stand-up. Or comedy writing (Conan, of course, and Carson, who wrote material for Red Skelton). Or they come from a journalistic background - Barbara Walters, Oprah. The worst come from neither -- song-and-dance man Tony Danza, Sharon Osbourne, Pat Sajack, Magic Johnson, Gayle King (Oprah's friend), Candace Bergen, Florence Henderson, Cristina Ferrare, Cybill Shepherd, Donny & Marie, Leeza Gibbons, Laura Schlessinger, Queen Latifah, Richard Simmons, Ru Paul. Everyone of these had a talk show that failed. There are probably another 100 more I can't think of right now.

Stand-up comedians or comedy writers are usually successful at talk shows because they have a natural wit, something a talk show host will fail without.

Six billion people on the planet and Tony Danza is the best one they can find? It's confuzzling. Next up - Tyra Banks and Brooke Shields - I'm not kidding, both have talk show plans in the works. Dig two more graves for the Talkshow Graveyard. Better make that three - Tony Danza's gonna need one too.

Poor Tony! He is someone I really like. I liked "Who's the Boss" (oh hush!).. Tony needs to take some Valium and calm way down. I had to change the channel when he was interviewing Alfred Molina. Tony wouldn't shut up or sit still.
Puds38
Did anyone see when he had Liza Minelli on? Again, only listening to it, but Liza sounded horrible and Tony can't interview to save his life. Somebody page Dr. Kervoiken, cause this show needs to be put down.
Geneva
I've watched this show a few times. It's terrible and I don't see it lasting longer than a couple more months. Extravadanza!!! @@
mbridgii
It must be noted that Gayle King does have a journalistic background. I think Leeza Gibbons might also (though I'm only aware of "ET").

Being a likable person does not make someone a good talk show host. I don't have a problem so much with bringing on B, C, or D-list celebs, because they have less to risk and can be more real and funny. The key is that host has to be able to converse with them as though he is aware of them and is really interested in knowing more about them. Otherwise, the audience is just bored.

I mean, there isn't anything about Dean Cain that makes me particularly care to find out what time Danza comes on, but if you can pull something out of him, and I happen to turn past, you could hook me. That's what had me up til 2am watching Bob Costas on "Later".

I can't believe they thought Danza would get higher ratings than Wayne Brady. Is this the same company would replaced Vicki Lawrence with Marilu Henner though?
Decormaven
Haven't seen the show, but they've promo'd the hell out of it here. And while I'm an advocate for looking one's age, Tony's hair almost looks too gray-tinged. Almost like they wanted to cast him as Kindly Older Father Figure You'd Want to Come Hang in Your Living Room and Chat dude. Folks, it's not working.
Jazper
I caught a snippet of an episode where the ever vile and disgusting Paris Hilton was the guest. He did seem to talk a lot about himself, rambling with some nervous sort of energy, but Paris was just a ridiculous guest; she clearly has zero personality and was "too cool" to say more than a few barely audible words at a time. She could prove to be any talks show host's worst possible guest, so I couldn't tell if the Tonster was all that good or all that bad. Guess if I ever find out, it will be by accident, because I have no plans or desires to check the show out again any time soon.

Poor Tony does deserve perhaps a *grain* of salt's worth of credit. Paris is an INCREDIBLY bad interview. I saw her on the Today show with Matt and he could barely get a word of her. One syllable is about all she's worth -- speechwise.

Tony D does suck though. I don't think even A-list celebs could make him look good. He's just flat out terrible.

Glad to see there are some Wayne Brady fans out there. I thought I was the only person watching.
Helter Skelter
I completely agree, skn--someone deserves to get credit for some aspect of "The Tony Danza Show." I'd give this award to the person who is clearly the hardest working schmuck in all of LaLa Land: Tony Danza's agent. I mean, it can't be easy trying to drudge up work for this fool. I do wonder if his knees still ache from all the favors he had to call in. Whatta champ.

Is it wrong that I was hoping that Tony would bust his head open on the pavement during the intro segment? (Today he was on stilts for those who missed it.) I feel like I'll go to hell for that one.

Don't forget Gabrielle Carteris (90210) and Chevy Chase.

Talk show Graveyard. TalkShowGraveyard.com. What an interesting concept, and history as well. I may look into that!

I haven't seen Tony's show, I haven't seen it promo'd at all. I don't think it's even bothered being shown here. Nor do I care to look it up to see if it is.

What bothers me about Tony is a few years ago, someone, mabye Jay Leno did a bit at an awards show (Emmy's or something similar) and had one of his Generic Peoples getting the stars to come over and talk or something. It was all a big joke, but when they got to Tony, he acted so frickin pompous and stuck up and wouldn't even acknowledge the "nobody" calling to him. That totally shut me off of ever possibly liking his sorry ass ever again.

That and seeing many shows up and bomb named "The Tony Show", "The Tony Danza Show", "Danza", "Tony", "The Tony Hour" and whatever else you could get with those names. Guess what they were about? A rough New Yorker from the Brooklyn who tap dances and sings! Wahoo!
tv eagle
I have to agree with every poster on this thread that this show is not going to last. Does someone inject Tony with high quanties of caffeine before every show because he seems anxious up there on stage. Actually, I have noticed that about him in every show he has ever done.

Could someone tell me who the lady is that plays the piano.
Cress
Bumping this up.
Canadian Tyler
Tony's show has been renewed for another season, announcement was made a couple weeks ago.
Someone in the other thread created for this show (which I'm assuming will be merged with this one) asked about the show's ratings, it's currently pulling in about a 1.4, which to put it in perspective is right between Jane Pauley and Ambush Makeover.
NeonJungle
Thanks for bumping this. I searched both pages for a topic on the Tony Danza show before starting the other thread, and didn't see one.

Naomi Judd is on today -- blech. I don't know why, but I've just never warmed up to her.
TV_Buffy
I just saw on Keith Olberman's show that Tony flipped his mini-racecar on the show recently. Did anyone see it? Was he okay?
Canadian Tyler
Changes at Danza's show
The good news is that Ereka is gone, there's also a rumour that Tony might be replaced by Gloria Estefan. I'm assuming it would be a whole new show then...cuz "The Tony Danza Show with Gloria Estefan" just doesn't sound right.
Musicalsahoy
I heard that too Canadian. I HOPE that is true because Tony Danza's show is so terrible! It's all about him and his family and blah blah blah. He isn't funny either. The only time he was funny was on "Who's the Boss". I LOVE Gloria Estefan and am curious to see what she would do with a talk show!
tisha
Gloria Estefan subbed for Rosie O'Donnell a few years ago (after Rosie's infected finger incidnt) and it Was. Not. Pretty.

If Tony's canned in favor of Ol' Gloria, it's going to be frying pan to fire time for this show.
Geneva
I have seen a commercial for Tony's 2nd season. It looks like they are moving the show to CA from NY.
I HOPE that is true because Tony Danza's show is so terrible! It's all about him and his family and blah blah blah.

That gets old! All he talks about is becoming a grandpa and being Italian. Geez.
SeeeTeee
Before today, I never saw the show before. And even today, I could only handle like a minute. Does he always sing at the end? WTF?
ekkostar
Yeah, Jane Pauley and Tony Danza are still kicking around in local syndication.
I only watch Tony Danza's show when Bryan Cranston is on, which seems like twice a season.

By the way, what was up with changing the music in the second half of the season, or did they count the Winter/Spring half as a second season? I'm confused.
niklj
What's up with this show? It hasn't been on for me in a few days. Is it canceled or am I waiting for a new season?
vitaminc
Hardly ever watch TD. Tuned in today tho. I couldn't believe that Tony didn't even mention Ereka by name. Just said "We used to have someone else here, we miss her and wish her the best." Damn!

Lotsa Grandpa moments with the announcement of baby Nicholas.

I only watch this show when Maury is something I am not interested in. Wow. What does that say about me? I am not sure at this point.
Expatriate
Never watch this show, but I happened to catch a few minutes this morning while the Maury "Man or Woman?" show that my girlfriend was watching was on commercial break. Tony had "fitness guru" Jack LaLanne on for a cooking segment where they were making potato pancakes.

Jack looks pretty amazing for being 91 years old -- that's good DNA for you! -- but it's pretty obvious that he's deteriorating mentally. He basically forgot the details of his own recipe and then forgot how to work his own juicing machine. His wife Elaine kept shouting reminders from the audience; Tony finally had to have her come on stage to help out. Ah, the magic of live television!
Milanne
I happened to catch a few minutes of Tony's show today, and when the subject of Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes pregnancy came up, he suggested that the first thing he'd do is send them over to the Maury Show to find out who's the baby daddy. Hilarious.
wounded
Was today's Jennifer Love Hewitt appearance a repeat? I was a-waiting for Jennifer Weiner. Grrr.
shakenbake
I happened to tune in to Tony's show today for the first time while delaying my ironing -- caught Maria Menounos coming on as the guest. YIKES!! This woman is so full of herself I was gasping out loud at her it's-all-about-me-and-aren't-I beautiful-attitude. Even Tony seemed to realize her egomania and could barely conceal his dismay. Maria - you may think you're oh-so-talented as a host, actress, director and potential sitcom star but good gawd woman you need to get your head out of that mirror and realize you ain't all that. You made ironing more appealing than evah!
ubi
Did anyone catch Wal-Martha Stewart's appearance on Friday?
kelkon
Did someone say this show has been renewed?

Gah!

this.show.is.bad. And we know this because freakin' CHARO was a guest!!!!! CHARO! Talking about her "maracas"!

I only saw this because I was flipping channels. I need to haver those five minutes erased from my memory....
Surfboarder
What makes this show is one thing, and one thing only:

Tony Danza's sincerity.

If he gets better at all those things that have been discussed upthread (comes with practice, I would think), then he could rather easily be the next rosie o'donnell.
MaddenMustLose
With no audience and a canned laugh track, today's show reminded me so much of Kramer's version of The Merv Griffin Show on Seinfeld.
