Man I love that show. Doug was so cool, and still is. I wish nick would air it again.
Oh e oh. Bagin' on a trash can. The beet offs. Sketter Valintine, Patty Maynease (sp), Dang, am I loser for remembering some of that stuff. It was such a good show!

Maybe I'm just delusional, but was there an episode where everybody thought Doug's best friend was a vampire? For some reason, I remember this one time when Doug and his dog were watching TV, and the program airing was about a kid and his dog watching TV, and so on...
I loved how Doug always wrote in his journal. And that time when he thought his enemy stole it, and was going to read it out loud in public, and he thought Patty would get mad at him because he wrote about how strange her last name was.
Yeah. I'm a freakin' loser, too.

I loved this show when I was little.
Did anyone else love the little "theme" music? The "doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo" thing? Ah, just me, then.
Skeeter was the shit. His dad creeped me out, though.
I don't remember many things about the show, but I do recall the episode where the school was being renamed, and there was a debate on what it should be named. They showed a shot of the school with a rectangular cut-out that said "Paste School Name Here." Heh.
Oh yes, and who can forget the Beets, with their smash hits "I Need More Allowance" and "Killer Tofu"?

I never watched this show religiously. I liked the opening tune (Doo do do doo do) and I liked the way Doug and Patty were friends even though Doug liked her. I thought the way they made Roger rich was pretty stupid, though.
I read an interview in Disney Adventures long ago, when the creator said that in Jr. High, he had a crush on this girl named Patty and another on a girls whose last name was Mayo. Thus, the birth of Patty Mayonnaise. What was Doug's last name?
Oh yeah, and there was an episode where everyone thought Skeeter was a vampire, because he was feeding the bats in the school belfry. Doug asked his dad what he knew about vampires and his dad was all "Well, when a boy vampire and a girl vampire fall in love..."

Ooh-eee-ooo, killer tofu! I haven't thought about that in years, yet I can still remember the tune.
Doug's sister Judy cracked me up with all of her dramatic ways. Patty Mayonaise kind of got on my nerves though. I think it had something to do with her voice. And that damn ugly sweater she always wore.

Doug's last name is Funnie.
I also loved the beginning theme song.
I remember when they redid the school and it was shaped like BeBe's head.
Remember Chalkie? I think that was his name.. And the scitenist twins.
Killer tofu is an awsome song!

I didn't like Patty Mayonnaise either. Or that kid named Chalkie. That always bugged me that he was named Chalkie. What kind of parents name their kid after chalk? The funniest episode had to be one of the ones with Quailman "the only superhero who wears clean underwear over his pants" or the one where Doug was too scared to see the monster movie with "The Abnormal" and then it turned out that the Abnormal's zipper was showing. Lol. I thought Doug was really lame in sixth grade, when I watched it, but now looking back on it, it was pretty funny. The other two funny ones were the dancing one:
Dance Teacher: Now, Plie!
Doug: No thanks, I just went before class.
Or the one with "Durango Doug" and the song
Durango Doug
He's got a rock hard head and he eats stail bread
Durango Doug
He eats snails for lunch and drink unsweetened punch
He's the meanest, gruffiest, and all around dustiest durango

One of my favorite episodes was when they had the job of making book marks. And Doug was in charge, and he got this special key. And he gets stressed and runs from everybody.
He also saves the local ice cream factory and becomes mayor for a day or something like that.
Nematoads. ah ha ha
I love to watch Doug's first movie. It's just so good. And it's the only way I can see Doug
It's really weird, I remember like almost every single Doug episode.

Cleopatra Dirtbike: Judy wanted to give her the name of Cleopatra, and Doug wanted a dirtbike for Christmas. The parents, geniuses they are, thought Doug was actually suggesting a name, so they combined the two.
Cleopatra Dirtbike: "Gee, thanks mom and dad."

I never watched it after it left Nick, so I don't know anything of this Cleopatra Dirtbike.
I always remember the one episode (Doug's Lost Weekend I think it was called. How do I remember these things?!), where had to write that essay, and all he wrote was Silt is... before he got distracted. I had no idea what silt was. Then later I found out what it was, and wondered why he had to write an entire essay on a sedimentary material consisting of very fine particles intermediate in size between sand and clay.
I loved the episode Doug's Lucky Hat. It just made me happy.

Mar 31, 2005 @ 2:14 am
I loved Nickelodeon's Doug:
Super Pretendo - Defeat the Chipmunk Mother Ship!
Porkchop (he rocked, I wanted a dog like him)
Doug- Doug- D-d-d-doug- Doug- Doug Doug - That's me!
"Very expensive *guffaw*." [tm Mr. Dink]
"In other news, Mr. Bone wears pink underwear."
"I'm a SLUG."
"AHHH! Head for the hills! POT ROAST!"
One episode my sister and I loved was when Doug made up a "secret song" about Patti on his banjo. Skeeter finds out and Doug begs him to never tell anyone. The next day, Skeeter and Doug (and Porkchop too) are at the mall and they find this place where you can make your own music video. Doug decides to try it out but couldn't think of a song to sing. Skeeter suggests, "How 'bout your Patti song?" Doug, of course, refuses and gets ready in his private booth. As soon as the lights turned on, Doug suddenly gets nervous and gets the hiccups. The camera starts rolling and Doug panics while his hiccups get worse. He starts playing his banjo and couldn't think of any song - except for one:
Patti is the *hick* on my coleslaw
Patti is the *hick*-gar in my teeth
Patti is the *hick*-tard on my sandwhich
And Patti is the *hick*-naise for me
Woah woah *hick* woah *hick*
It was all captured on video tape. Skeeter and Porkchop immediately wanted to take it home to watch and laugh at it. Doug was pissed but let them have their fun while he sulked. As soon as they pressed Play they realized their tape was accidentely switched. They had Patti's tape (she was at the mall too) and then Doug panicked that she had her hands on his. What made things worse was Patti was going to a slumber party that night. Doug and Skeeter then try to break in at the party and get the tape back. But then they find out Patti's tape was a tape of Mr. Bone yodeling. Doug and Skeeter then realized Mr. Bone had their tape.
Yeah. I loved Doug.

Ah, Doug. . . I did indeed watch the Nick version religiously since it was on a billion times each day, then Disney ruined it like they ruin everything they get their hands on.
Random memories: Roger's cat being pregnant but he and Doug thought it was because of something she ate, Doug getting his first pimple, Mr. Bone constantly referring to "permanent records," Doug taking ballet lessons, and many more that I'm mixing up with each other.
I loathe the "Brand Spankin' New Doug" Disney crap mainly because it makes Bebe Bluff more deluded and self-absorbed than in the original episodes. Having a school shaped like her head and having it named after her is downright cruel. And Patti had a bad haircut.
silantro
Mar 31, 2005 @ 1:40 pm
Yeah, Patti had a bad haircut and Doug was suddenly wearing that weird three-quarter length shirt. Bleh.
I kinda like the movie, even if it the plot was ridiculous. I got a kick out of the songs that played with the credits. "Me, someone like me/ She wants someone like me..." That song was just too damn cute.

Well, Doug wanted to name it "Learning Is Educational" or LIE for short. That was bad, too.
This year at Christmas, I saw a Christmas Doug on Nick I'm sure I had never seen before (I thought I had seen them all, I love this show). Porkchop saved Bebe from the thin ice, but everyone thoguht he was vicious and they tried to lock him up for Christmas. It was sad.

I LOOOVED Doug. This show had the best music. From the theme, to The Beets songs... I still know all the words to "I need more allowance" and "Killer Tofu". And that other one... "You gotta shout yer lungs out. You gotta roll your window down, you gotta rock yours socks you gotta roll your soul burn ya vocal chords.... you gotta lose controll!! waaa!" hahah. And who can forget "Banging on a Trashcan"? Still know the whole thing by heart, including Bebe's Madonna segment.
The Disney version did suck though. Roger is rich? Bebe has her own school, Patti is home-schooled, Connie is a thin loud rocker chick... They jumped the shark on that one big time. Dont get me started on little Dirtbike.
Oh remember when Doug had that party and he wore that purple shirt and they were playing truth or dare in the basement, and Connie got that awful hair cut and Roger pulled off her hat and she punched him in the stomach... This show really needs to be on again.
And Doug as the hamburger boy, running away clutching his shorts?
Other random memories-
-Doug makes that cartoon about the cafeteria food.
-Doug and Skeeter miss the Beets concert, but see them at the Honker Burger and get Beets Jackets!
-Quailman (now a popular Haloween costume among kids my age)
-Doug's family goes on vacation but keeps stopping at those lame roadside attractions. Like Blythe Field and the Bug Rodeo.
-"Is it a date, or a group thing?"

Here's something that's always bothered me about Doug - In a town full of purple, green, and blue people, Doug and Judy were the only ones with a skin color that could be found in the real world. I could understand it if the whole family was done that way, but the parents were orange and pink!
The older I got, the more I enjoyed Judy, with her oh so tragically-hip-beatnik routine. (It was all about "beets" in this show, wasn't it?) "Oh brave new world with such people in it!" was my first introduction to The Tempest.

Oh, Doug. I heart Doug.
Disney annihilated this show, but I pay the later episodes no mind.
Oh, word, love Judy. The ep where she performed at Doug's school was great. I liked the daydream sequence where he pictured Judy reading a poem about feeling like a washing machine, or something. Brilliance. Or when she told Doug to "be" the liver and onions in order to like their taste, instructing him to lie on the ground and sizzle. Hee.
I don't have a true favorite episode (they were all great, pretty much) but the one ep I cannot watch is the Christmas special. I don't care if it has a happy ending. I just can't do it.

One of my favorites was where Porkchop and a raccoon run through paint, then over the back of Doug's canvas during an art contest. For no reason that I could ever figure out, he flips the painting around and walks away, leading to his being proclaimed an artistic genius by the pretentious judges. The writer of that one threw modern art to the floor and kicked it while it was down, all deliciously.

They just don't make them like they used to. I used to love Doug and all it's theme-songy goodness. I seem to kind of remember that they had several slightly different beginnings. Sometimes they would walk out of a door or switch on a light. Something like that.
Word to all the ABC Doug hate. My sister and I used to call that version of it "Foug." I had some younger cousins who only knew that version of Doug and it annoyed the crap out of me whenever they watched it around me.
Going over the descriptions of episodes you guys posted on here made me relive some dear memories. Seriously. Killer Tofu? The one episode with all parade and all the floats? Judy learning to drive? All classics. In my book anyways.
They need to be showing some of this semi-old school goodness.

Ah, Doug yet another Nickelodeon show I wasted way to much time during my childhood watching.
Heh Judy the beatnik was amusing. I think one of my favorite eps was when Roger got his crush on her. So he tried to impress her with Shakespeare. My favorite part is when he got a ladder and started to reenact the famous balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet substituting Judy for Juliet. I know he started with "But soft what light through yonder window breaks..." Of course not only was Judy not home but Roger got the house of their next door neighbors. The wife of their next door neighbor comes to the window with hair in curlers and face cream on and says something along the lines of "sorry Romeo but you're about twenty years to late."
Anybody else remember how Doug had to catch a nematode in the first ep? Dork that I am it amused me to learn in zoology last year that their probably were nematodes in the swamp.

Ahh! Doug was so awesome. I love this thread! This cartoon (along with Rocko's Modern Life and the Original Rugrats) were my constant companions ten or so years ago. A lot of the humor and the subject matter was handled really well for this type of show, making it all the more wiser than anything else I can remember from those days. Sigh.
I loved Judy and Roger Klutz and Pricipal BONE (ha!) and Skeeter Valentine (everyone had such crazy names).
Porkchop? Best. Dog. Ever.
I really really want to get my hands on the original Nick episodes but amazon is very unhelpful.

Okay, so, one of the Doug moments that I ALWAYS laugh at when I remember, for some reason, is the time when Porkchop answered the telephone. He was, like, "Hewwo?" and it cracked my shit up even when I was nine. However, when I mention this to my friends, they insist that Porkchop had frequent speaking parts in episodes, though he never had actual dialogue with another character. Can anyone remember Porkchop talking besides the time he answered the phone?

He often took part in the dialogue, but I don't remember him ever having any actual "words." It was usually clear what he meant, but...they weren't words. If that makes sense. Your friend might be right, though, it's been so long since I've seen Doug, but I definitely don't remember that.

For some reason, I didn't totally hate BSNDoug, but that's because I think I might have been high when it came on. Maybe. So we didn't have to deal with them kissing in the halls, thank dog.

Wow, this thread's been dead nearly a year. Sad.
I just had to share that, while heating spaghetti sauce and eating a banana, I was reminded of the episode where Doug and Roger accidentally created "banana pizza," and the closing shot of the ep showing Doug writing in his journal while dipping a banana in tomato sauce and eating it.

I remember after I watched that banana pizza episode for the first time (I was probably seven or eight then) that I totally wanted to try the banana and tomato sauce thing. So the next time we had spaghetti for dinner I got a banana and dipped it into the remaining sauce on my plate. It was awesome. So I continued to do that for years afterward. It's been a while though. I actually forgot all about it. Thanks for reminding me McKay!
