I got that impression also. If we picked up on that I think Kristin would have too, so I can't see how Taylor's interest and Kristin's interest would have a causal relationship. Taylor doesn't seem at all interested in Talan anymore and Kristin is still as into him as she ever was.



I'm not saying that this is definitely untrue, but Jeff has gone to school with these girls for four years. He's not a new character, he's someone they've known for quite some time. They (Jessica and Kristin) have an established relationship with him that we know nothing about. I don't know, and I doubt the actual episode will be all that revealing with the circumstances. If it is as simple as it seems (Jessica likes Jeff followed by Kristin hooks up with Jeff) then it is kinda crappy.

Plus, it could be a situation where they all thought he was cute and Kristin is the only one who had the opportunity to follow up on that.

Regarding the question of friendships. In LC's MTV bio she says she has lots of best friends but names Dieter as her best friend.

Stephen's bio says he doesn't have just one best friend but he has known Trey and Dieter the longest.

I don't understand the feeling by some that LC should completely abandon her friendship with Stephen because their romantic relationship didn't work out. They have been friends since childhood. Romantic relationships usually fizzle but friendships can last forever (for eva eva for eva eva? Sorry, I just had to do that:)


Speaking of Casey, I got the sense she was genuinely shocked when Alex said she didn't forgive people. That's the first time I could see Casey's religious tendencies coming through. I think her naivety was somewhat shattered. Poor thing, it must be hard to learn there aren't really unicorns and leprechauns with pots of gold at the end of rainbows.

Who said LC should completely cut off their friendship? I just think that if it were me, I'd cool things off a little, just until I liked him a little less. If you can't already tell, my pride is my best friend since childhood.

That seems like the most likely scenario to me. But we shall see.

I remember what she actually said, but if that were me, I would think nothing of 1) being Alex and saying that I was her best friend in front of another friend that wasn't a "best" friend, but just a good friend or 2) being Jessica if I really didn't consider myself to be Kristen's "best" friend.

Point in case. My husband has a bunch of very close friends - they are all out at the bar all the time, some of them come over for dinner occasionally, they're all invited without needing an invitation whenever anything is going on, but hubby has ONE best friend (well, out of the guys, of course) and they all know it. So, I guess my point to that was that I don't know if it was a slip like Alex meant, "Oh, I forgot Jess is here. I don't want to make her feel bad. I mean WE," or if it was just a legitimate slip of the tongue. (I can't believe I'm putting this much thought into this show - that no one knows I watch........).

That's not really what anyone was debating, though. We were discussing whether or not other girls want what Kristin has -- not who Jeff "belonged" to.

As for the "Don't go after your friend's crush" rule -- well, that's the just the High School Girl Code. Haha. Granted, there are very specific rules to this -- in order to make Kristin the bitch in this situation, Jessica must have told Kristin that she liked Jeff beforehand. However, it's pretty much understood by every high school girl that I've ever met that you don't go after a guy that you know your friend likes, and if you do, it's a signal that you don't care very much about the friendship. I wouldn't be surprised if Seventeen magazine has done whole articles on this subject.

If it comes out that the guy likes the girl that didn't "call him" -- then, if the girls are very mature, they'll sit down and girl #1 will give girl #2 "permission" to pursue him. Or, if they're not very mature, then no permission will be given and everybody will have to be miserable. Or girl #2 will make out with the boy anyway and girl #1 and girl #2 will get into a gigantic catfight, which is where I kind of hope this episode is heading.

The same rules that apply for crushes also apply to ex-boyfriends.

I'm surprised that so many people are surprised by this, though! I thought everybody knew about the High School Girl Code. It must have been mentioned in some horribly cheesy teenage romantic comedy, recently. If nothing else, Mean Girls must have made some sort of reference to it!

I'm assuming that Kristin didn't know Jessica liked Jeff, or Jessica would have been much more upset about it than she appears to be in the promos when talking to Alex H.

There was a song on last night's episode called Catch My Disease. Don't you think that's a fitting song for this show, with the "incestuous" circle of hookups that the Laguna kids have? I would love to see a flow chart of all the hookups.

Back to Laguna Beach... Chestica. That kicks ass. The girl has some serious jugs. I know Jason is an all-around despicable dude from the looks of things, but I just can't help admitting... he's hot. Real hot.

From last night's show, I laughed out loud when Catch My Disease came on as Kristin and Stephen were walking around. I love the song, but I certainly wouldn't want it playing over visual images of me with a boyfriend.

Is that a slick reference to Alex's "disease"?

I think so and hope so. But I would have loved MTV if they had played that song when Taylor/Casey/bitchCedric were talking about Alex's "problem." I just would have loved MTV.

To resolve the "beachfront college" question:

Last week in the high school picture post that was linked here, someone on Oh No They Didn't posted that Kristin is taking classes at Loyola Marymount along with mAlex.

She didn't want to lie. She didn't want Kristin to lie.

I was in a similar situation back in high school where I told a lie to protect a friend and I ended up catching all sorts of crap for it all the way around. I'm a firm believer that real friends don't expect you to lie for them.

Talan is Alex H.'s friend, too. I know I hate to be put in the situation where you're sacrificing one friend's feelings for another. It's an awful position and the best thing to do is to tell the truth. It's not like Alex was all anxious to blurt it out...Talan asked her a direct question.

What is the world coming to? This episode made Stephen seem endearing, Talan seem smart, and Alex seem comparatively sane.

First, Stephen planned a very nice weekend (I kinda expected them to go to restaurants and mumble at each other for two days, as usual), explained his feelings to Kristin articulately, acknowledged that he's still too affectionate sometimes, and was actually very cute and mature about the whole thing. Kristin just seemed kind of sullen, so I really, really enjoyed Stephen making her give him back his sweatshirt and throw out the trash from his truck at the end of the night. She seemed so surprised, but, hey, she didn't want it to be romantic . . . hee hee.

As for Talan - usually I think he's got the one lonely brain cell bouncing around up there, but I completely misjudged him. He can cook an impressive meal AND see through Kristin's BS. Smart kid.

Finally, Casey's stomping around angrily demanding forgiveness was even funnier than Alex stomping around angrily demanding apologies last week. Casey was in the wrong here, but I'm still glad someone, anyone, is not cowering before Alex's temper.

That's true, but I still feel like details matter. Was it a lifelong crush? Was it a longing in her heart? Or was it a passing interest? Maybe just a phase? It all adds up differently.


My impression of LC is that she gets her hopes up and spends time with Stephen crossing her fingers that he's finally realized she's the one. If she truly is just friends with Stephen, that's great, but it's not the impression I get. When I say I want LC and Stephen to be done, I just want LC to stop setting herself up for disappointment, because it's kind of sad.

This situation was just weird all the way around. How can Casey expect Alex to forgive her for spreading that rumor? And Casey demanding forgiveness was just weird. Casey seemed to really like Alex and Taylor, and they seemed to really like her. I wonder why Casey would do this?

I can't wait to see Alex's breakdown!

Just because Alex and Taylor really seemed to like Casey, doesn't mean that Casey really liked either of them.

Honestly, Alex M. seemed more impressed by Casey's house than by Casey.

I think the best way to handle it when you get caught spreading a rumor is to take responsibility for it like Casey then, but then go one step further. Say something like, "I didn't start the rumor, but I'll do what I can to stop it."

I'm thinking the only thing Alex is going to break is a chair.

Yeah, I was going off on a tangent based on the statement about Kristin not "having" this kid. I appreciate your explanation of the High School Girl Code, though. It's been a while since I was in high school and on top of that, you know, my good friend, Stubborn Pride, shielded me from a lot. ;)

I still haven't caught the episode, but I'm dying to! :) I agree with those who don't think Alex M.'s "hygiene problem" is a yeast infection. A yeast infection is not perceived as a hygiene problem. It's more of medical problem because most women contract it because of medication side effects (especially antibiotics) or environment (condoms, clothing, etc.). Even if she had a bacterial infection down there, I still don't see it as a "hygiene problem".
Unless "hygiene problem" is a euphemism for STD, I'm going more with Alex M. having some odor problems somewhere. Although, I'd die laughing if it turned out to be smelly feet or something!


I may have to give Kristin a pass on this one. I was a nice person in high school (for the most part-heh), but I never handled turning someone down well. I would feel so bad and awkward the situation and then tried to mask it, only to leave my self looking like a dismissive bitch. So it could be that Kristin just genuinely felt so badly that she didn't handle herself well. Or, it could very well be she was just being a dismissive bitch. :)

I'm still trying to figure out why Alex M is popular. Nothing about her personality seems like enough to overcome her relatively plain appearance, huge size and frightful temper. Did she threaten to kick the ass of anyone who didn't befriend her or what? I really wanted to see the aftermath of Jason's convo with Alex--maybe Jason and Cedric laughing about it as they mused about her stank cooch or something.

It occurred to me last night that Stephen may be the most articulate person on the show, in between the "dudes" he can string a good thought together. If Kristin is serious about acting she really needs to get a speech coach because I can't understand what she is saying much of the time. Time is rapidly winding down on the show and I'm still waiting for two brains cells to converge to create something resembling a deep thought from Jason. I think he maybe camera-shy.

Glad you brought this up because I have a theory. I think she's popular because she's intimidating and unafraid of confrontation. There are always those girls in high school (mine had several) who are in the popular groups even though they're not that attractive and not very nice. I think that's exactly the point. They've got big personalities among other things and they're willing to say all the mean things that others aren't. And because it's high school, other girls gravitate towards that. Also, as LC said, you want to stay on her good side because it would suck to get on her bad one. It seems like Taylor sees through Alex, at least based on some of her mousey squeaks to Alex's statements, but she's still friends with her and supported her when Casey got the smack down. I think that Taylor is afraid of The Wrath of Alex. Not that I blame her. I would be too.

I don't really see how she was treating him badly. She was direct and firm, but she was cautious of his feelings, I feel like.



For some reason I always get the sense that Taylor is the popular one, and Alex is her best friend. It seems to me like Taylor is in control of their friendship, and Alex is a little afraid of Taylor outgrowing her. All of this is wild speculation based on people I know in real life.

I think it may just be that Kristin likes cute, outgoing guys. Since these are desirable qualities in boys it is almost inevitable that there will be other girls who have interest in the same boys. Given that Laguna Beach seems to be a fairly small petri dish, it is likely that Kristin will know the girls that have that interest.

I don't think Kristin could possibly owe Jessica to not make out with Jeff, just because Jessica thinks he's cute. After all, it's not like Jessica has some long unrequited love for this guy. She's been obsessing about Jason forever, so I doubt any crush she has on Jeff has gone beyond noticing he's hot.

Also, Kristin has said that her senior year is all about being single and having fun, and that's what I've seen. Not all the guys she's flirted with have been guys her friends/acquaintances/frenemies have been into. I've also seen her flirting with one of the ski shop boys and Sam.

Two things I noticed on my second viewing of last night's episode:

When AlexM, Cedric & Taylor are at the beach, Taylor asks "how did this whole Casey thing start? Alex replies, "She made up a story". Taylor says "That wasn't true?" Then Cedric jumps in and starts to explain. Alex cuts him off with "she said I had, like, a bad hygiene problem". Taylor wrinkles up her nose like she's smelling something bad and says "...and she made that up?" Hilarious. Seems like Taylor could've been the one who started the rumor that Casey merely repeated.

Also, Kristin & Talan were so drinking beer with the dinner he cooked. Although he put it in what looked to be champagne flutes, the foam was quite telling.

In the latest Rolling Stone, there's a pretty good sized article on Kristin. It's part of their "Hot List 2005." However, she has a VERY revealing photo in it. DAMN.

Basically the story is all about how Kristin pretends to be a bitch on TV, but isn't one IRL. And how she doesn't know words with very long syllables. Other tidbits of note:
- She's rooming with Alex (her bff) at college. However, she's only taking one class while she pursues her celebrity career.
- She and Stephen still hang out. He is taking acting classes now.
- Talan dated Lindsay Lohan, and apparently Kristin slept in his bed during that time and Lindsay freaked. But of course Lindsay's reps say it never happened.

This has been bugging me since I watched it last night. I live a block away from the hotel Kristen stayed at (its at Bush and Powell for those who know SF)... This is about as far as Stephen's dorm as you can get. I wonder why she didnt stay closer to his school. I am guessing because its close to Chinatown and Fishermans Wharf and TPTB wanted them out and about, not sitting in a dorm room her whole visit... Shrug.
Oh... and the seagull that landed next to her. She got lucky.. usually they will take the food right out of your hands. I have seen those birds attack people!

This is exactly what I tried to say earlier, but you stated it much more eloquently:) I don't hate LC or think she's an idiot or anything like that - I actually feel for her b/c its very hard having feelings for a friend when they don't return them. I know she and Stephen have been friends since they were little kids, but her feelings are obviously getting in the way of that. At this point I think she likes him too much to just keep the friendship going -- personally I think it would be best for her to "move on" and distance herself a little from Stephen, at least until she falls for someone else.

I definetly think when they are together, she is giving off more than a friend vibe. She is pining for him big-time, and it shows. Its one thing if she honestly just wanted to be friends, but I think its apparent that she isn't happy with that.
