"For the World is Hollow..." because of its pompous (even by Trek's literary standards) title and McCoy nookie.

I voted for Elaan of Troyius, not because I've actually seen any of these, but because this was the summary on startrek.com: "Kirk is distracted while the Enterprise is threatened". Hee! Detailed much? It sounded positively snarkable.

Savage Curtain, definitely. Lincoln and Rainbow!Surak? I'm there.

I voted for Elaan because of how very much I'm betting keckler will hate it (Kirk thinks he's Petruchio).
However, if I could have a second choice, Gytha is absolutely right about Savage Curtain. Heck, any of them would be great.

You know, I recently did a study on voting systems in multi candidate races, and I must say, with this many candidates, I wouldn't count this poll much as a plurality vote. I personally would reccomend (my pathetic littleselfness) a system of approval voting, in which one is allowed to vote for one or more of the candidates and then the one with the most votes wins. But I doubt the feasbility of coming up with a whole new system of polling. Just the random musings of a Floridian.
I voted, by the way, for LTBYLBF just for the comparisons to Chosen Realm.

Voted for The Tholian Web, because, while it is eminently snarkable, I think it's one of the best of Season 3, and it's got some really good scenes when the rest of the crew think Kirk is dead.(Hmm...like Zero Hour...)

Jun 23, 2004 @ 9:48 am
Like cuiusquemodi, I voted for LTBYLB because of ENT's nearly identical Chosen Realm. However, with titles like For the World is Hollow & I Have Touched the Sky, The Mark of Gideon, Requiem for Methuselah and Is There in Truth No Beauty? you really can't go wrong.

Oh please dear goddess keckler, please do Omega Glory. I assure you that you will not regret it. It is one of the very worst--and not bad in a good way--of the entire 3 season run. The pompous Cold War allegory is filled with anvils. Actually, what's bigger than an anvil? Trust me, you will wet yourself with snark-worthy glee at the "mystery" behind the Yangs and the Comms. You will scream in delight at the opportunity to lampoon Shatner's extra Kirk-tastic delivery during the climactic scene. If ever an episode deserved the keckler treatment, it's this one. Please tell me your price. I will gladly bribe you for the opportunity to read your glorious recap of Omega Glory.

I voted for For the World Is Hollow..., mostly because I would love a rant on how many times keckler mis-typed 'xenopolycythemia.'

I voted "Patterns of Force," both because the Nazi planet angle might yield a great deal of snark, and well ... I gotta vote for anything with half-naked Spock.

My vote went to Bread and Circuses for a couple of reasons. One, it's not so terrible of an ep that keckler's sanity would be threatened by the close viewing required for recapping; two, it's got Gladiator!Spock versus Gladiator!McCoy; and, three, come on, the ep itself has meta-snark on popular culture, and TV in particular ("You bring this network's ratings down and we'll do a special on you!" Television without Pity, indeed.).
However, unlike most elections, we're guaranteed to be happy with any of the choices.

I went with "Omega Glory" for the same reason as belsum, but it was a tough call between that and "Savage Curtain". Both are delicious morsels of horrible.

I chose Is There in Truth No Beauty? 'cuz it's Spock-centric. I think. I hardly remember the titles any more. It's true though, Kekler really needs to recap Omega Glory somewhere along the line. It's thoroughly horrible AND snarkable!
Oh, and what's the one with the Trideskilions or whatever they're called? (Kirk hits on and/or is duped by some woman. They end up fighting with double-ended halberds in some sort of an arena.) Is that on the list? I'd love to hear what Kekler had to say about the music in that one.

I voted for "Requiem for Methuselah" because for years I would often utter the words "But you can't DIE" and no one would have any idea what I was talking about.

"Omega Glory" would be good... but does it involve Kirk threatening to give someone a spanking? No. Go with "Elaan."
'Course, with keckler involved, there's no way we're gonna lose...

Yeah...not really do-able on this website.
Just to warn y'all, IF I do "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield" it is doubtful I will compare it to "Chosen Realm" since I already compared "Chosen Realm" to "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield."

I voted for Patterns of Force because the Nazis will tie in to last season's finale and Keckler will see Spock's naked chest. But The Omega Glory is a good choice too. I'm a little disappointed A Piece of the Action isn't listed as an option, but any episode recap will be ripe and juicy snark goodness.

I voted for Spectre of the Gun, because it is just plain weird, but I hadn't realized Savage Curtain was the one with Lincoln. That one is delightful as well.
As far as episodes that are not on the list, that I would love to see recapped in some far distant future... Shore Leave. McCoy and the White Rabbit? Too funny.

I just saw Patterns of Force again today, and it occurred to me the Nazi guy (who ends up being a good guy in the end, sort of) looked surprisingly like the Nazi soldier they showed at the end of the season closer. If anyone gets an opportunity to compare, check it out - it's uncanny.
My vote goes for Patterns of Force or Omega Glory - both would be hilarious. And what's the one called where Spock gets spoored and is happy? That one would be fantastic as well.

This Side of Paradise.
I have always loved that one, for the Spock swinging upside down from a tree branch, and specifically for the line at the end when Spock says something like, "For once, I was truly happy."
Sniffle. Poor emotionless Spock.
I see The Tholian Web is in the lead for now. Which one is that again?

That's the one where they think Kirk is dead and haunting the ship but he's phase-shifted or some technobabble like that, right?

Jun 25, 2004 @ 1:25 pm
I think so. And there a little ship that makes like a spider, slowly enveloping Enterprise in a grid of light beams. Only it's not light -- it's probably "some form of energy we've never encountered before". (They seem to run into that a lot.)

Google and Yahoo! lead me only to Star Trek sites, and when I type, "For the world is hollow..." into Bartleby.com, the only hit I recognize, which has nothing to do with the title, is Eliot's "We are the hollow men, we are the stuffed men."
If there is a literary source for the title, it has eluded me. I can usually rely on Bartleby's to find any quote if I know at least five words, so I'm hard pressed to give an answer to this one. If, as I believe, it
does not have a literary source, that just makes its pompousity even more delicious and increases my wish to see it recapped.

Sorry, Harrison. I’ll admit to having sent you on a bit of a wild goose chase. As far as I can tell I had two quotes mixed up. ‘We shall find peace. We shall hear angels. We shall see the sky sparkling with diamonds’ by Chekov and a proverb my grandmother used to use that is remarkably like the title but can’t be translated verbatim. Anyway, back to the topic.

And not only was The Tholian Web recycled in those other series, it was mentioned in an ep of Mystery Science Theater 3000!
Concerning For the World Is Hollow blah blah blah Skycakes, the title is a quote from the script... but that's not what you're talking about, is it?[/monkey] But doesn't The Star Trek Compendium mention something about the source of the title? Wish I could find my copy.

So has Keckler decided which one she'll do? Last I checked the ratings, several were tied for the top votes. She could do all the top vote-getters if her stomach is up for it. Not to mention her liver. And Dr. Mathra's nerves.

I chose Let That Be Your Last Battlefield because when I was a kid, I thought it was such a serious look at the silliness of racism. But, when I watched it a few years ago, I thought it was absolutely ridiculous. Still, it still comes off better than later attempts to recycle the idea because there's something about reducing complexities to black and white. Or white and black.
