Hi. You think IM is romantic? You should see "the freak."

Definitely liking this team......He's dead on when he says his wife resembles FloJo......
And from his convos, it sounds like they might be Frank/Margarita reversed.........Should do well

I like them too. I wonder how he will do with all the flying and not liking coach seats.

I'm going to guess that "Chip" is a nickname for Phillip, since one of their kids is Phillip III.
Aside from the fact that there was nothing from her in the quotes (does he do all the talking because he wants to? or maybe because she doesn't want to?) I like them.

I'm liking this team, too. And Kim is soooo pretty. I would have never guessed her to be mid 40's. More like mid 30s.

Based on bio alone, I think this is my favorite team going in. I hope they do really well...the only married couple (M/F anyway) to go far on TAR so far (that I can remember) was Teri & Ian and they were an insult to the institution of marriage. Having said that, I hope these two treat other as well as it appears they will from their bio.

We do all realize of course that since we all are rooting for this team to win, they're going to finish 2nd or 3rd, right?

No, they're fourth. Isn't the favorite TWoP team always fourth?

Love, love, love these guys! Bet they's be real cool to hang with. I hope they don't get the curse of fourth place.

No, an all-male team is always fourth.
Frats, Cha-Cha-Cha, Derek & Drew, Clowns.
Realistically, I say fifth - the way of JVJ.

You've forgotten the exquisite Davey and Margaretta of TAR1. If Chip and Kim are half as great, I'll love them.
ETA: My bad. I just read your post closer and realized you said the only married team to go far. In that case, you're definitely correct.
Dbrain2004
Jun 9, 2004 @ 12:33 pm
But Davey & Margaretta were eliminated fourth - that's not really going far in the race. Well, not to me, anyway.
But, if they ARE as half as classy as those two, they have my great respect.

Good: Persistant! Running a business together means they've probably worked out a lot of issues that can plague teams during the race. Says they're fans of the show.
Bad: Brand-name, and name, dropping. Stupid weakness the way he phrases it, though I can see that coming into play. Kim doesn't talk in interview.
Verdict: Pre-like.

Jun 9, 2004 @ 12:42 pm
From their bio:
Chip & Kim say they decided to apply for THE AMAZING RACE 5 because "several of our friends and family members have made calls to us to express their strong feelings as to why we should be on the show. That is why we started watching. Now, THE AMAZING RACE is our favorite show."
They've actually seen the show (or so they say)!
Pre-like, all the way.

Jun 9, 2004 @ 12:52 pm
Gotta pre-like them just because they own up to being huge fans of the show. Although that could definitely cause them to over-think their decisions, so I hope they can put what they've seen aside and just run their own Race.
lordofthemanor
Jun 9, 2004 @ 12:56 pm
My first thought is that ANYONE who applies to be on the show by this point (four seasons completed) must be a fan or at least watch it regularly. But from a number of comments many of the other TAR5 teams made in their bios, it appears that there are few clues among them about what really makes a difference in winning this race. So maybe this couple really will have an edge of some kind, knowing to expect the bunching, knowing how to wisely use the FF, recognizing the temporary nature of mutually beneficial alliances, etc.

I'm Pre-Loving them! Any woman who does The Freak in her Jordache jeans is a-ok in my books! And they're actually fans of the show? Love 'em already! (But, they spend 23 hours a day together? Damn! That would annoy the hell out of me.)

Chip is actually a nickname for anyone who is a second. So, yes, his name is most likely Phillip.

By design, Kim and I spend approximately 23 hours a day together.
That
and married for 25 years? Complete pre-like, extreme respect and utter awe. Being a team of mutually supportive people always wins out as the most necessary skill to have. Here's hoping they aren't doomed by all this pre-race lurve.

Jun 9, 2004 @ 2:03 pm
They don't have much foreign travel experience and they don't speak other languages. That could hurt them. Also, if small seats make Chip uncomfortable, imagine him sitting in a sweaty smelly train car through India for 20 hours. You got to be willing to get ass cramps to win this game.
I wonder if they have the hustle for this show. Jordache jeans and "the freak" aside, this ain't no party and this ain't no disco.

Pre-love (YAY!)
SteveR and I have three school-aged kids and run a business together out of our home. I'd say spending that kind of time together WILL give them an advantage. Hubby and I both know each other's strenghts and weaknesses without a second thought and what "roles" we play in any given situation, and hopefully we'll see that from this team. Yay! Hey, and we only have about one monthly chair-throwing fight where one of us calls the other a fucking crackhead. So that's good, right?
Should be an interesting team to watch. My favorites so far!
Eegah
Jun 9, 2004 @ 2:23 pm
I'm still pre-loving them, but does anyone else find Chip's methods of getting together with him kind of stalkerish? I doubt you'd want to say something bad about her in front of him.

I pre-love this team also. I think they could easily go all the way. They seem to have a very good team concept and sound like they will be very good racers. Probably the most physically fit of all the teams though they are somewhat older so that, I'm hoping will not be a super huge factor. How can you not like a team that says Amazing Race is their favorite show.!!!!!! Woohoo!!!!! Go Chip and Kim!!

A very strong team, on paper at least. No pre-love, but I'd be willing to put money on a top 3 finish.

Yes, the dreaded fourth place curse. It better not happen again, because I've looked over all the information about the teams, and no other team even comes close to how much pre-love I have for Chip & Kim.

I'm loving them also. The fact that they love this show proves they are smart and have great taste.
Chip reminds me slightly of Donald Faison (from Scrubs and the movie Clueless)

Pre-like bordering on pre-love. Not a good sign for them, I'm afraid. All my pre-love teams never even make it as far as fourth place.

Just chiming in with more pre-love. If these two, Karen and Linda and Colin and Christie were the final three teams, I could die a happy man.

Pre-like, they seem to have a sense of humor and anyone who is that devoted to their spouse earns complete respect from me. I love that. So far, they've said all the right things anyway, can't wait to watch them race!

They seem eminently likeable and competent. I'd want to say that I think they're going to win, but I think they've probably already been condemned to fourth place at this point... Because, you know, we're cursed like that. I think they're in it for the long haul in any case.

They live in Coto De Caza which is a very very nice development in Southern California. My sister in law and her husband (a very very successful bankruptcy attorney) live there. Now, there are all sorts of houses - not all of which are in the seven or eight figures.
That said, I had an instant pre-like for them in my quick perusal and primarily because they look like a happily married couple and I always root for the married couple (even Teri and Ian, as the race wore on)

Word! I was shocked - they are ten years older than I would have thought by their photos. They are a very attractive couple and seem to have a sense of humor. I hope I like them and they go far. They'll probably be fourth or fifth place.
I definitely think that spending so much time together and running a business together will work in their favor. I'm sure that one of the hard parts of the Race is having to be with your partner 24/7 and deal with high stress situations and it sounds like they've already done that. 25 years of marriage has that covered.

Yay! TAR racers that I really want to root for; definitely feeling the pre-like. These two seem like a great team, for all the reasons mentioned previously, and I just hope they do much better than that dreaded TWoP cursed 4th place. I would hate to see Allison and her dud win--pre-hate fo sure.
