Peep is a cartoon for kids that subtlely teaches science lessons to preschoolers.

Peep is a newly hatched chick, and he hangs out with Quack the duck and Chirp the robin. Narrated by Joan Cusack. Sometimes I can't get the theme song out of my head!

Currently it airs 8am on TLC and 8:30 am & 11:30 am on Discovery Kids. Also airs daily on TVO.

I'm ashamed to say it, but I've seen this show and loved it. It's so hilarious and not condescending to kids' intelligence.

I think that the thing that's the shame, is that this topic only seems to be discussed once a year, as Peep is an excellent cartoon. It is hilarious, I absolutely LOVE Quack (Oh, there's nothing like a duck, you could try, but you won't have any luck...), and Joan Cusack as narrator is just wonderful. I think that I got young Patella watching this show, as opposed to him getting me to watch it! It's just too funny!

I agree! Maybe by posting and bumping Peep up another TWoP-er or two will catch the show. My three year old and I both crack up at Quack. The actors/voices are perfect. And what's better than finding an old show that's new to you? (no repeats!) Have they stopped making new episodes? I'm scared to put "peep" in google.

Seriously- only five of us watch the show with our kiddos?

It's by far one of the better shows out there for kids. And ditto to NovacScott- the theme song is catchy - love it! I only wish there were some new episodes out.

Between this & Jack's Music Show, I can actually enjoy watching tv with my toddler.

We love this show too. Actually my 3 year old loves the website and the games more than the TV show. HOSE! (anyone who has played the paint mixing game will know this reference!)

nevermind.

I didn't see a thread for this, so I thought I'd start one. Woke up this morning and there was nothing on except The Today Show, and this was on after Blue's Clues (major dorkcrush on Steve) and just, WOW. This show is wonderful! The animation is charming and the characters are so incredibly snarky, it's hilarious to watch. After checking the site, I'm pretty sure that this show was made by parents to mock other kids' shows. Just look at this exchange:

Narrator: "And they waited for days. and days. and days, and-"
Quack: "A long time! Yeah, we get it."

Quack cracks my shit up. He is totally the Gregory House for kids.

Quack: "The first thing you need to know is that ducks are the greatest animal of all."

And this quote hits me in the right places as senior in college (what the hell AM I doing watch kids' shows?) and struggling through emotional puberty.

"Oh, every bird should have a home. And every home a bird. If you build yourself a home. You can fly, I heard. Honestly I didn't hear it. I just made it up. But it makes sense. I need a place to live and act grown up."

Has anyone else seen this show? Discuss.

I don't think Quack is anything close to a House like character. Snarky and full of himself to be sure, but more of an an idiot daydreaming schemer. Very rarely does he save the day, he's more of an instigator. There's actually an epsiode where he spends the whole time standing in one place because there's a rock in his path and he refuses to walk around it. He's more Arthur Spooner (King of Queens) than Gregory House.

There's another funny bit I rememember where the Narrator starts an ep (Joan Cusack by the way) saying "One spring morning, Peep, Quack and Chirp were all standing on a branch, having a marvelous time."
Quack "I am so bored!"
Narrator "Okay, so Peep and Chirp were having a marvelous time. Quack was -"
Quack "Bored!"

It's a really intelligently written show, especially considering it's target age group is pre-preschooler through kindergarten. There aren't a whole lot of episodes, maybe just a season's worth... like 30 or so, but Discovery plays it every morning, so I've seen it like a bajillion times getting ready for work in the morning as I have a 5 yr old and 3 yr old, and they love this show. It's fairly educational-ish (kind of encourages investigating and examining nature in a fairly intelligent manner) and non-pandering to little kids. The dialogue is so crisp, too, so that while little ones like the characters and their shenanigans and probably like that the words are grown up sounding, the show's writing is so tight that the humor in it is really almost funnier for adults.

New episodes! Wheeee! I am more excited about this than my 3-year-old is, I'm sure. I just love this show. I work at a veterinary clinic and lately we've had a duck who's been in for some exams and every time I see this duck, I just want to start singing some of Quack's songs (Oh, I wish I were a duck--Hey! Look I already am! What a stroke of luck! Glad I'm not a purple ham!).

Hello there! Actually there is a thread started for "Peep" already, would the mods be able to knit this one to the other?

I flove this show and will watch it even when I'm home alone...

"All I want to do is wear my hat and sit in my puddle."

Quack is awesome.

Flipping through the channels the other morning, and my son and I came across this show. I loved it! He didnt get into it as much as I did (he is only 1 year old) but I couldnt turn it off! and Joan Cusak as narrator is perfect! We are definatly going to starting TiVo'ing this and adding it to our collection!

Glad to see I am not the only one who has been enjoying this, and I agree with whoever above that said its nice to find new (old) shows, since I can only take so much of the other things we see in heavy rotation!

We love Peep. Although evil champaignboy has got 3 year old champaignchild referring to it as the Peep show. As in "Mama, can I watch a Peep show this morning?" We've already filled in the day care teachers what he's referring to so as to avoid a visit from DCFS.

My 2 year old and I discovered Peep by accident about a month ago. The TV had been left on TLC the night before and we caught the tail end when we turned it on in the morning. I immediately set our DVR to record any and all showings. I am absolutely dumbfounded that this show is not more popular. It is by far the funniest, cleverest and most intelligent preschool oriented show out there. All of my preschool age nieces and nephews are getting Peep DVDs for Christmas. I love that it doesn't talk down to kids. Peep Chirp and Quack are learning the science concepts right along with the kids which I think makes it more engaging. Plus.. It's funny enough (Okay, mostly Quack) that it's entertaining for mom and dad too. How can we get more people watching this show??

We love Peep too! Anyone know if they are going to make any new episodes soon?!
kwim
Our whole family loves watching!
tortiegirl
Super late to this party, but on, I love me some Peep...and Chirp...and Quack!
Of course, we can't seem to stop tortiechild (three and a half year old son) from bending over, pointing his bottom at us and saying "I'm spraying stink at you. WHATEVER!!" -- a direct shout-out to the Quack-meets-a-skunk episode. Very little sounds as wonderful to me as the belly laugh of a very young child and for sure, Peep and crew evoke this time and time again.

We were on the web site a little while ago playing the games and lo and behold it says new episodes are coming in January 2010 on PBS! :D
