Yes, as was expected.

But did someone catch what species that Nazi was?
Nahtanoj
What The Hell?!?
txhorns79
What the F*** just happened????
screamin
Oh, fercryinoutloud. Give me a fuckin' break.
nerdyduck
WTF just happened?
SmoothieX
Uhhh did anyone see that coming in their wildest dreams?!?!?

I can't believe I would ever say this, but Bermage rocks!!
Outside Food
No! Pleeeze. Tell us. Pleeeeeeeeze. Are we supposed to have recognised that alien?

Or, was that not a rhetorical question?

Long time reader, first time caller, blah blah etc., wits not quite collected after puzzling episode....
thingamajig
Ha! I laughed so hard at the end that I think I peed myself a little. Oh wait, that probably wasn't the effect they were going for, huh?

I have so much more to say about Archer's dumbassery, but I have to go get the kid in bed.
Becca501
Well. That was certainly very.... Quantum Leap-y. I hope someone explains it soon, cause for now, I'm just sitting here feeling dumb. I wasted 50 minutes being amazed at how far the show has come - it was all good and there was some pretty bad-ass action, and then, what the fuck? Are they in the 1940s now? Was that a reptilian Xindi in a Nazi uniform? Is WWII still going on in the 22nd century?
And, yes! KimberleeJean - you called it. That thing looked like a Cro-Mag from Sliders! Exactly.
Now I am pissed off. Just when they were doing so well. Evil Alien Nazis. God.
Gnosis
I. Hate. Time. Travel.

I actually liked most of the episode and was thrilled to have the Andorians back (I'm weird that way). I think they did a decent job of keeping the weapon destruction sort of suspenseful. The sphere plot wasn't as good, but it still had some moments. I may be getting sappy in my old age but I kinda liked the Trip/T'pol scene at the end. It was sort of sweet.

The alien might be a new species. Or a vampire. He kinda looked like the Master from Buffy. But I'd go with new species.

And how the hell did Enterprise get bumped back in time as well? Is anyone else wondering if the Aquatics are also trapped back there? Kinda sucks for them.
alexias
The Hell?

So, the Earth that the Xindi were trying to destroy couldn't have been earth in the 1940's because of the space station. So, somehow Archer, and in turn the Aquatics and Enterprise ended up in the past? Or did the Aquatics not end up in the past but Enterprise did? And if so how is that possible?? And what freakin species was that Nazi??

I DON'T GET IT! I've followed Trek since, well since TOS, loved TNG, DS9 and even Voyager, but never before have I been left so.....dumbfounded by the result of an episode.

Help anyone??
Phaedra
What the hell was that blue thing in the Nazi uniform and how did Archer make it back to Earth?
CableGuy
Goddammit, just when I thought I understood this show....
ilikerice
Did anyone catch what the 4th species in the federation formation? They had humans, vulcans, andorians, and something else.
cuiusquemodi
Ladies and gentlemen, I do believe the shark has just been jumped.
savant
Wow. Talk about your non-sequitor.

I can just hear the writers now.

Writer 1: They saved Earth, but there's no cliffhanger. We need a cliffhanger.
Writer 2: I know! Let's throw in Nazis! Everyone hates Nazis.
Writer 3: How about Evil Alien Nazis! That's even better!
Writer 1: Sounds like a plan! We'll take the last 5 minutes we planned for a logical, well written ending that will provide wonderful closure, and replace it with Evil Alien Nazis during World War II. That'll fit beautifully!

*sigh*.
Outside Food
Fourth species were Tellurites.

Are they the furry guys?
Aatrek
Maybe Quantum leaped into "The Killing Game."

Uh-oh.
beadgirl
Wow. What a way to ruin an otherwise decent episode.
Phaedra
At first, I thought they were going to actually keep Archer dead so that the timeline for us (with TOS, TNG, etc....) wouldn't include this oh so important Archer character that Daniels keeps coming back from the future to promote.

But then he's stuck on earth.

I love time travel, but they (writers) are really going to need to clean up the timeline at some point....
Dane
They're the pig-looking guys. I guess this means I'm not going to get the denouement/take-a-deep-breath-aftermath episode next season that I was hoping for, eh?

ETA: And I was so sure that Shran's ship had beamed him at the last second.
savant
Tellerites are the pig looking guys that first appeared in the TOS Journey to Babel. They've been in a couple Enterprise episodes as well. The one that leaps to mind was the one where the Tellerite captured Archer to turn him in to the Klingons for a bounty.
Outside Food
They're the pig-looking guys.

Right. I was visualising furry pigs in silver jumpsuits....

The episode shortcircuited my ability to write intelligent commentary, though. I think I'll go crawl into an episode of Law & Order for a while to recover.
wombathefool
"Nazi, schmatzie, says Werner von Braun." Now all we need is a killer Rabbit!
RiverThames
Maybe Quantum leaped into "The Killing Game."

Uh-oh.

Makes sense. That guy looked as much Hirogen as anything else.

Seriously-- huh? I mean, I don't think it's bad-- I'll reserve judgment until later. But, Ricky? You got some 'splaining to do.
RiverThames
Double post.
Outside Food
Edited because of double-posting, but I think the doubling-up was the forum having a bad attack of hiccoughs after watching the episode
cuiusquemodi
More to the point, what were the Nazis doing in San Fransisco?
cuiusquemodi
Edited to avoid the Wrath of Keckler (I accidentally clicked twice. Oops.)
jcin617
Uh.... buh?

OK, the only possible thing I can think of is that Daniels pulled Archer into the past to save his ass, then pulled the Enterprise back to pick him up. Strange Evil Alien Nazi just happens to be there too as some other Temporal Cold War baddie.

Gah.
Nahtanoj
Now that I have gathered my thoughts a bit..........What the F*** is going on?

But I did like the episode, though does archer is a dumbass. The Sphere plot wasn't that great, but it was needed and it adds a lot to continuity as it explains why we never here about the expanse.

On the time travel. Okay how did the Xindi drop off Enterprise and then they have suddenly travled back in time? I'm betting we see either the influence from the guardians or, more likely, the Suliban. And I thought they were going to wrap it all up.

However I love the suprise of it all. I was expecting to see them destroy the weapon and go back to earth and nothing big would happen. I'm glad I was wrong.
ilikerice
Was anyone else waiting for Archer to look up at the Nazis and say "oh god." It would have been funny as hell! We don't call him Quantum for nothing!

It was San Fran, you could see the bridge
KimberleeJean
What's not to love? We have an alternate history Earth (obviously someone flung the Reptilians back in time), Nazis....although I think the uglee Nazi looks more like one of the Cro-Mags from Sliders, personally.

I love me my alternate universes.

Otherwise, cool episode. Hoshi totally held it together.
AD35
After seeing the final scene, all I can think of is WTF!!!!!!! I may have more to say later on.
Jamraza
Well the nazi's weren't in San Fran, those looked like P51 Mustangs coming up the meet the shuttle. Archer could be anywhere. But seriously, what a massive WTF moment. I really liked the episode tho (especially the explosive charge on Dollin, niiiice) lets just hope they actually do something interesting with the conclusion to this episode that actually tells us what's going on with the Temporal Cold War doo-hickey.
RiverThames
More to the point, what were the Nazis doing in San Fransisco?

I know. The Guardians sent someone back in time to save Edith Keeler!
Phaedra
OK, the only possible thing I can think of is that Daniels pulled Archer into the past to save his ass, then pulled the Enterprise back to pick him up. Strange Evil Alien Nazi just happens to be there too as some other Temporal Cold War baddie.

Thank you! That works for me. At least it will HAVE to work for me util next season....
Nahtanoj
Well that alien sure wasn't a reptillian. Looked like a Chiss from Star Wars, they have red eyes and blue skin, though they have a smoother face.

I hope it's the Temporal Cold War, and not some other random half-assed storyline.
cuiusquemodi
...I think the uglee Nazi looks more like one of the Cro-Mags

I agree and now thusly redouble my declaration of shark jumping.
Semblance
They haven't necessarily gone back in time.
JesterDel
I was *so* expecting Captain Quantum to say "Oh boy."

While everyone was distracted by the Xindi, did Shower Guy succeed in changing the timeline and help the Nazis to win WWII? Should I even *try* to make sense of this? I'll refrain from any other speculations, as they'd likely belong in the Speculations thread. :)

I'll admit, it was certainly an...interesting way to end the season.
immaf
I was totally faked out. Weapon destroyed, and we don't know if Quantum made it off or not. Endless commercials. Clearly, the show was done. I had turned off the television, when I realized that it was only 8:45.

So I tuned back in. (Caught the end of the endless commercials.) And spent the next 10 minutes WTF'ing.

I'm guessing that they haven't actually gone back in time. I'm guessing that something happened to alter the timeline, so that they are in a reality in which the Germans won the war. And space technology never developed. But then there's no explaining the alien Nazi. Ah, crumbs!

Nope, I got nothin'.
Jamraza
Freaky speculation of the evening. According to some eagle eyed viewers, the alien at the end looked like the Remans from Nemesis... Which adds to the wtf factor, but does mean there's a chance for hot Romulan action next season
jen
So is next season going to be all Wonder Woman-ey? Cause I'm thinking Quantum in satin tights could be a big ratings booster.
The episode was just fantastic until the ending--really odd, just makes no sense. On the upside, loved T'Pol, Phlox was awesome (his will had me cackling hysterically), and Quantum blew up Mr. Snake Eyes. Loved Shran flying in to the rescue, and T'Pol's conversation with Porthos, well, hee.
But alien Nazis?!! WTF?
Outside Food
OK, the only possible thing I can think of is that Daniels pulled Archer into the past to save his ass, then pulled the Enterprise back to pick him up.

You may have just saved my sanity. I can go with that theory; at least, it should keep my brain from melting. But I'm tired of time travel stories. I love time travel stories with an unhealthy passion. But, darnit, I'd like to be watching Enterprise to learn about the time period the show is ostensibly set during -- that whole "how did we get from here to there" arc. Blah blah Nazis yah yah restore the timeline whatever.

Hmm... wouldn't Enterprise, scanning all frequencies to communicate, have picked up some of those weird radio transmissions the Trek Classic Enterprise always managed to pick up on Uhura's earpiece when accidentally stumbling into the past or onto parallel Earths? Brain still not totally recovered, I can't tell whether or not I'm making any sense.

I was rather hoping the episode would end with the Enterprise returning to Earth orbit, captainless, the fate of Archer unknown. We viewers, who know the series has been renewed, would know Archer will be back next season, and would have an entire summer to wonder how that would be managed. That would have been sufficient cliffhanger. I had shuddery Galactica 1980 flashbacks at the end of this episode.

(Note to self: Stop trying to make up for being a new forum member by posting a billion times about one episode.)
cuiusquemodi
Nazi. There was only the one.

Maybe, in an incredible plot device, the Temporal Shower Man sent some of his other minions back in time to help the Nazis, and Enterprise was protected by the change in the timeline in the vortex. But this change would have occured all over the timeline...

My brain.
prolixiii
Not that I have any idea, but . . . random thoughts.

I'll bet their explanation comes from the line "the expanse has returned to normal space." Maybe when the expanse was partly in trans-d space it was shifted, maybe, and when it, uh, shifted back it, um, was actually like 150 years in the past. Which wouldn't explain why QUANTUM was 150 years in the past, or how he might have made it to earth -- unless the weapon was also somehow shifted.

(But how the heck did he survive re-entry? "Badly burned" indeed.)

I have to say, I hate time travel. It's always confusing and never gets done right. How disappointing.

I really thought Hoshi was going to die. I wouldn't have minded if Quantum had died. I didn't want Reed to die, but I could have accepted it. I think I just want one of the main characters to die. Is that so wrong?
KBear
After 55 minutes of really good TV, what the hell was that last 5 minutes? That doesn't even begin to make sense. I am curious so I'll tune in next season to find out. I guess that's what they want me to do. It better be good though because they are on a short leash with me.
jah1986
Okay, I thought it was pretty good and the ending had my jaw dropping. But what if they are not in the past? What if this is earth now or you know their time, maybe they did something more far reaching than they realized when they knocked out the spheres, weren't they temporal thingies?

I know I'm not making any sense but I can't just assume it's the past.
Becca501
See, everything Jen said, right here?

This is what I was loving (especially Shran and his expressive antenna), and looking forward to processing and thinking about and then I forgot all about all of it. Because of the Fucking Ridiculous Evil Alien Nazis.

And, seriously, RiverThames - your theory re: Edith Keeler is kind of awesome and definitely makes more sense than anything we've got any right to expect from Bermaga.
