I'm really thinking Camille. God, she was bad...
Najactor
May 15, 2004 @ 11:21 pm
I don't think Camile was THAT bad and certainly not the worst ever. Out of the finalists, Jim, A.J., Nikki, Corey, Carmen, Josh, Leah, Matt, John, and Jasmine are all worthy of the title. Maybe not Jasmine but we all hate her so much right now and some seem worse than they really are since they made it much farther than they should have.

You're probably right Najactor, maybe Camille shouldn't get the trophy for worst contestant ever but I swear that everytime I hear her name, the only song that goes into my head is her rendition of 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road'. That's likely why I put her there.
Maybe Keith (Like a Virgin guy) from season 1?

Top 10/12? AFAIC, it's a tie between Nikki, Jasmine and Carmen.

Carmen is bad in a "so bad it's good" way, so even though she could technically be the worst singer, she's still entertaining.
The worst constestant has not only a horrible, horrible singer, but also boring. AJ Gil and John Stevens fit this description quite nicely.

I've only seen season 3, and of the ones who made the final group, the worst by far were the Roman brothers and Lisa McBoobson, who seriously made my ears bleed.

I suppose worst contestant to me would be a combo of singing/performing/personality. I guess choosing from the top 10/12 would only be fair, since the auditions are filled with poor singers (and some really great ones that were inexplicably cut - grrrr).
I don't think Jasmine's the worst vocally, but when you bring in performance and definitely personality, she shoots to the top of the charts for me.
In my mind, it's a showdown between:
Corey "Craggle" Clark (for the great banshee imitation and constant sucking up to the judges),
Carmen Rasmusen (for "Call Me" - gah, and complete obliviousness to her own suckiness), and
Jasmine Trias (for her past few performances, as well as a personality that rivals some of the snottiest people I know).

Jim had a rail-thin voice, couldn't be on-key ever, used annoying sob stories, and dissed other contestants in interviews. He didn't really stick around long enough to provoke true rage, however.
Nikki had enormous pitch problems, but seemed like a genuine, sweet person, and was pretty fun overall.
Carmen was just befuddling.
It's probably a toss-up between Craggle, Jim, and Carmen for me.

My list would match yours Make It So. I would also add "Total lack of originality" for Jasmine too.
I think I hate Corey Clark the most out of the 3 though.

Oh, I so want to say Josh because I have irrational amounts of hatred for that squatty bastard, but he's probably not the worst. Shit, even Carmen and Crags probably aren't the worst.
So instead, I submit Jon Peter Lewis. He was at best an average singer who had no clue how to choose a song that actually suited his limited voice. He dances like some people seizure. He exhibited no ability to even pretend like he cared that he was there. And shit, he was the smuggest contestant this side of Jasmine.

Oh
really Queen B?. Is that what you
really think of JPL? ;).
Anyway, my vote for Worst. Contestant. Ever is Josh. I just hated everything about that dude, the way he slid in on patriotic fervor, his macho pretentions, his constipated facial expressions when he sang, the fact that he outlasted Trenyce which was just ridiculous. Just HATE HATE HATE.

May 16, 2004 @ 10:10 am
I'm with Queen B on this one. JPL was pretty bad, especially when he started spazzing on stage. I didn't know whether to boo or to call the paramedics. What made it worse was that his singing was bland, his tune was all over the place, yet the judges would praise him and he would be safe for weeks. I never got this one.
Queen B
May 16, 2004 @ 10:13 am
I'll qualify that, krunkyou - those things amounted to him being a bad fit for Idol, but I think there are other stages or forums that they'd work great in.

QueenB I gotta admit, that as much as I lurves me some JPL, he
was a bad fit for Idol in many ways. I don't think he's smug, and I liked his dancing, but yeah, his voice was definitely not the "Idol" voice--which is probably why I found him the most entertaining thing on there.
I suppose Josh was a good contestant in that he brought a good backstory. The whole army thing played really well, I'm assuming, in the red states. And since I'm a blue state kinda gal, his whole schtick totally turned me off.
Just think how polarizing a character he would have been if he were a contestant
this year.

May 16, 2004 @ 11:02 am
I don't necessarily consider Corporal Constipation the worst. Granted, he did have some pretty trainwrecking performances (Celebration, Baaaaad Bluuuuud come to mind), but he was usually a fair singer. I just think his bad points really shone when it was all widdled down to the real talent of Season Two, and he was still there among Clay, Kimberley and Ruben, while Trenyce was gone. Josh stuck out like a sore thumb full of baaad bluuud.

May 16, 2004 @ 11:03 am
Oh yeah, I'll admit it. As much of a big-old JPL fangirly as I am, I agree he was SO out-of-place on Idol. I didn't find him smug at all, and I
do believe he took the contest seriously. I just think he had no clue what AI was about. He's said himself that he never even watched it before. So I'll give him a pass there, but yeah, if I look at it
strictly in an AI-specific manner, yes, I believe he's among the "worst" contestants. But definitely not
the worst, IMO.
The whole army thing played really well, I'm assuming, in the red states.
omg krunkyou u bigg josh h8er he wuz in the marenes not teh army
I would put Josh in the "worst" group as well, and also Craggle. As much as I couldn't stand Carmen last year, I do think she gave it her best effort, and while her singing sucked and she did appear to be "smug", at least she tried with her ass-slapping to put on a good performance. So surprisingly, I'm not putting her in my "worst" group.
Camile, I have to put in there because she was just SO obviously scared shitless, and her performances really did suck. But I liked her, I thought she was cute and she seemed like a sweet, down-to-earth girl. So she doesn't get my vote for "worst" either. Likewise for JSIV (except change "girl" to "boy").
Which brings me to the Smug Puppy-Kickin' Bitch. She gets my vote for several reasons: 1) Her performances have been horrific. 2) She's a smug bitch. 3) She's in the effin' FINAL THREE! GAAAAHHHHHHHHH!

O God. I'm downloading AI1 semifinal MP3s. I forgot how goddamn annoying AJ Gil's voice was. He's the lost Roman brother. And he actually chose to sing an O-Town song for his performance! And he got voted in the same night as Justin and Kelly, over more talented performers like Alexis, Angela, Gil, Tenia, and Jazmin. And that was just that night. Okay, so he's a little too boring to be truly hated. But if he had made it to the top 3...

Heh. Me too. Don't think it will happen though. Even people who didn't like him usually admit he had at least some talent.
I'm probably going to get booed at, but I really didn't like Rickey Smith. His voice was annoying, his ducks were annoying, his falsetto voice was super annoying, and he was annoying. And and he cried. Super annoying. I have to say he probably wasn't the worst though, I just didn't like him.
And, yeah, JPL was pretty damn bad. I thought he was funny on the wildcard show but it got old really fast when you realised he couldn't sing to save his life.

Or at least this season anyway. Or this season minus George.
Worse ever would have to be Craggle or Camile. HORRIBLE voices that were NEVER on key. And then there's always dead-weight Leah. She couldn't even pull off the sympathy vote dudes, and Jim and AJ have to get some credit for that.

For me, it's a toss-up between KimberMe, for being Shouty Off-key Famewhore Barbie and ChiaMatt - just for the bubble bath because I will never, ever recover from that. He's one of the cheesiest people I've ever seen on TV.
Runners up would be Ejay, AJ and Jim, but ITA that they were too boring to be truly hated.
If we get to pick from top 30/32, than all I have to say is What About the Chirrun?

Clay Aiken is the worst contestant ever. His voice makes me want to slap someone, I can't stand looking at him, and his fans scare the shit out of me. Watching him on TV wasn't really a big deal, though, cause half way through the season I started switching channels when he came on.

I don't know who the worst contestant is. Juanita? Actually, I'll give the worst contestant to Frenchie Davis. Her singing literally hurts my ears. It's so loud, shouty, and overwhelming. On lack of talent alone, I still say Carmen Rasmusen. When this monster is in its 300th season, I will probably still say Carmen. I think as we've seen the fresh horrors of Season 3, it's been easy to forget the caterwauling, off-key, smugly clueless nightmare that was Carmen.
But I will never forget. Oh no.

Thank you. I thought I was one of the only people that

Anyways, I'll nominate Craggle for being the worst.

I'm going with Jasmine Trias. She has everything that makes good snark. Her smug attitude, her bad singing, and her oddly shaped head all make me want to vomit. At least Craggle and Camille left early.

Bob: Have you forgotten Crag's delightful "upper register"?
I might name Carmen, as the embodiment of 19's changing the rules midshow to suit its own purposes, but Leah was more obnoxious in personality. However, Jasmine's has been shown to equally obnoxious and her current final 3 status is simply unjustifiable, given her pitchy, imitative performances. She's takes my prize.

Oddly, the contestants that annoyed me the most have all been guys: Jim, AJ, the Romans. Not that there haven't been bad female contestants (Juanita), but they haven't irritated me as much.
Mmm... Free Goo
May 16, 2004 @ 9:11 pm
Craggle technically left in 9th place, but remember that he was disqualified. I shudder to think of how long he could have lasted and how many superior contestants he could've eliminated had he been allowed to continue. His shrieking "Against All Odds" didn't even get him booted, although maybe the irony of "You Can't Win" for a competitive song selection overpowered it.

I take it you've never read ther Frenchie Davis thread, eh?
Have you forgotten Crag's delightful "upper register"?
Heh. While I wouldn't go so far as calling it "delightful", I've always thought Craggle was much more on key when he started his high-pitched shrieking, banshee-like though it was. It was the rest of his singing that warbled all over the scale. I think he very well could've lasted a while - the only judge that criticised him was Simon, IIRC.
I do think he was the worst of Season Two's finalists, though. Poor Vanessa and Charlie fell victim to his hypnotic spin-moves on the judges.

May 16, 2004 @ 10:35 pm
If you take the overall package and not just performing ability, among Top 10/12 finalists, my vote goes to Jim Verraros, with Craggle not far behind. Carmen is down there too. Leah LaBelle maybe, but she elevated herself in my eyes by conducting herself with class the night she was voted off.
Jasmine is not even close to the bottom (geez, here I go, defending her again). Once this season is over and a little time passes, I believe that will become obvious. Camile doesn't belong in that group either.

I agree with this so much. The only decent performance I thought he gave was "Let's Groove" on Disco Night. But usually, just the
sight of him irritated me.
I would have to say that my least favorite contestant was Nikki McKibbin. Maybe it's because she was on in the first season, back when I actually cared a little about the outcome of this show. I was livid that she wasn't booted after her wretched Motown performance. I admit, she gave some good performances, but she outlasted way too many people who were better than her. I would hate AJ Gil for beating out Angela, Alexis, Tenia, Jazmin, and even Alexandra, but he's entirely too boring to hate.

Worst fit ever? John Stevens and JPL
Back on Topic. Worst EVER?
-Carmen. Yeah, I appreciated her effort and all, but. NO.
-Craggle. Paula clearly was on drugs for any and all of her praise of his lovely "upper register". The guy's singing was also the definition of "pitchy".
-John Stevens (and I even voted for the guy in the very beginning. Does have talent. But not yet...still a pretty-voiced choir boy). Trainwreck.
I think Josh's very early performances saved him from being on my worst list. I *gasp* even liked him. And I don't blame him alone for the whole military thing. The guy was being tugged on both sides by TPTB and the military on the other. No wonder he looked so strained, constipated and pissy by the end. I totally give him a pass. Not for sucking, but for everything else.

I say Carmen too, because of the lack of talent, and her utter cluelessness at thinking she could still win when up against Ruben, Kim, and Voldemort. Second prize in that category goes to Jasmine, who moves into first if she makes it past this week.

Great thread I'd like to say first of all. Second of all, worst AI contestant in the top 10/12 for me would be Charles. Why? Because he had a lot of talent, but had no clue what to do with it. So many folks on this board love him, but lest we forget "You Can't Win" and its ugly twin "You Can't Win: The Results Show Return." Both were awful and out of tune. I don't care if he was a charmer, he was so not good.at.all. in the finals. What in the world happened to him between his 32 performance and the finals? He was truly out of his domain on the show and frankly, I would have left if he started singing on the speakers in my local grocery store.
Make It So
May 17, 2004 @ 6:13 am
I think Charles was something like Camile. He probably sounded great in the supermarket store aisles, but fell flat in front of all the TV cameras. He did hit quite a few flat notes - I don't know if I feel he's the worst, though.

Gosh, so many candidates.
I vote for Crags too. For all the reasons stated above, plus the horror that was the Mesh Shirt.
Runners up for me: Carmen, based solely on her turning "Call Me" into a cheerleader cock tease. Jasmine, who couldn't find the pitch if Pedro Martinez threw it. And while I liked both JPL and JSIV, neither of them belonged on AI. Bad fits, and neither of them has done "My Girl" any favors lately.
ChiaMatt, whose rendition of "Hard To Handle" must've been the cheesiest thing I've ever seen, gets redeemed by his singout to Simon.

EJaw- JUst for his fashion and well Jaw and that rendition of My Girl he did in some Medly. Let's talk about over using melisma.
Ryan Starr- I think for like 3 weeks she tried to suck to get voted out. Plus her name change was pointless.
Aloha Killme is my winner though. She ruined big band night. Even Nikki tried to fit the theme. NIKKI!
Disclaimer- Did not watch season 2. Wish same happened with season 3.

Jim. No question in my mind. He just can't sing. My wrath also goes to him for trading in on his parents' disability. I'm a sign interpreter and often see the loser offspring of deaf parents use their status as "coin" in the world. It is incredibly irritating. Plus the rubber lips. Just gross.

Wow, everytime someone mentions Craggle I become more and more convinced that boy was the skeeviest, creepiest, slimiest, most untalented bottom feeder that has ever graced my television screen.
Leah was deadweight, and all she had to offer in the way of snark material was her name change, Bulgarian stage mom, and fashion sense. She was a waste of space and didn't even deserve the hate piled on her. But if she had been replaced by Suzy or Lisa then Jennifer would have made a very VERY quick exit, I think, so we all owe Leah something.
