Now that the Minneapolis branch of Time Warner has finally fixed Nickelodeon's audio feed after four days of SNAFU, I got to watch Danny Phantom today.

Sharp dialog, in the joyful tradition of Fairly OddParents. Excellent voice casting. And pretty darn good effects for cell animation.

All in all, I am pleased.

Other opinions? And who voiced the principal? I want to say Ron Perlman, but I think I'm wrong.
timeonmyhands
I haven't watched it yet but I am pretty curious to see it since it was done by the same folks as those who did the Odd Parents. Does it measure up?
janellio
Does it measure up?
Yes. It is very funny. And this in no way is helping the blatant addiction to Nickelodeon.
slaughteredlamb
I've only seen one episode, but of what I saw, it was even better than Fairly Odd Parents. There were characters with I.Q.s. And rather than complain about everything that doesn't go his way (like Timmy), Danny actually tries to do things and then screws up. I think the older age for the characters also works a lot better than the youngesters on FOP. As does having Danny's friends be aware of his powers.

I'll watch the next time I find that it's on. I'm hoping it stays sharp and improves on itself.
DoctorNeon
I've been watching since it started. I found a little bit about it here, it's quite a good show. I think that it borrows elements from some very good comic books. Danny's costume is sort of like a "Fantastic Four" costume, and his Dad is a little bit of a "Reed Richards", if only in appearance. Not the bulk, mind you, but the hair. I like the fact that all his devices really work, but he can't know about it. And he thinks the daughter is the ghost, when it's Danny.
The little touches help, like Tucker's obsession with meat. The Gothic girl, Sam, needs a little work, she's too much like characters in other shows I've seen. Hopefully they'll sharpen this up more, like the "Fairly Oddparents" got better as time went on.
It airs on Friday nights at 8:30 pm E.S.T. according to my tv listings this week.
Comedian Dat Phan is doing voicework for this show. As "Qwan". Here's the rest of the cast list.

Yeah, but what's one little addiction between friends...and, y'know, anyone else on Earth with internet access.

Great show. There are similarities to Fairly Oddparents (keeping with the traditional style of totally insane parents), but I like that the main character is older. It works better than if they'd tried to make a kid superhero. And like slaughteredlamb said, characters with IQs! Can't wait to see more of it.
DoctorNeon
The quality is staying consistent, I'm really liking this a whole lot. When I saw little tidbits that it was going to premiere after the awards, I was going, "Meh!" , just another bland show.
It's nerdy goodness when Danny says: "It's time to go ghost!" and changes into his ghost form. The villains are excellent as well.
tabbystar7
And it's fun to see how some of the villains are actual villains, while others (like the Box Ghost) are just there for kicks.
timeonmyhands
Personally, I like Odd Parents better but that's just because I like Cosmo so much. This isn't a bad show, just not my favorite.
Ebongreen
I would be liking this show much better if my Nickelodeon feed weren't regularly fscked-up somehow - am I the only one on the planet getting no-or-bizzaro-audio from this stupid channel? I can't lip read cartoons, and I doubt closed-captioning is going to help...

I often find the captioning doesn't exactly match the dialogue. I have shockingly reliable cable service here in the Central Savannah River Area. Not so in South Bend, Indiana, now when a squirrel farted, it went out!

I love the Box Ghost. That voice actor always cracks me up.
tabbystar7
I love the Box Ghost.

Beware!
Zumanity
I absolutely hate the theme song, but I'm on board with any show that can get Mathew St. Patrick to play a crazed collector of paranormal paraphenalia. Wow, that was alliteratory. Cool.
tabbystar7
At least the theme song provides some backstory. That way, they don't have to exposition so much in the actual episode, and new viewers understand what's going on. So that's good.
Haunting Lyric
Personally, I love the theme song. I wasn't expecting much from DP when I first saw the promos, but I'm impressed. The only thing that bothers me is that I'd prefer to watch DP over Friends.
DoctorNeon
Anybody see tonight's episode?
Danny learns that his father created a ghost-human hybrid back in college, his former college buddy, in fact. Shades of Reed Richards and Victor Von Doom, in my humble opinion. It felt that way. He wanted Danny's mom, and he still wants to steal her away from Mr. Fenton.
And, he's developed his ghost-powers quite a bit, a lot better than Danny. They tangled, and for awhile, Danny really got his ass handed to him. And the new arch-nemesis?
Well, he's the one who's been sending the ghosts that Danny fights. The episode was a little dark and edgy, based on the few episodes we've seen.
Very, very good episode.
Ebongreen
Not only that, but funny as heck. Lots of amusing Wisconsin propaganda - being an ex-Cheesehead myself, I laughed loudly and regularly. And Martin Mull voicing Danny's arch-nemesis? "Oh, Martin, you're soooooo villainous!". (snicker)
tabbystar7
I'd prefer to watch DP over Friends.

Well, yeah! Wouldn't everyone?
janellio
Lots of amusing Wisconsin propaganda
"Why don't you just buy the Packers?" "Because they're owned buy the city of Green Bay, and they wont sell them to me!" hEE! That is so true!
tabbystar7
Due to circumstances beyond my control, I missed the teaser for the May 7th episode. Can someone tell me what happened?
Nevermind. Got it. Thank you, reruns.
tabbystar7
Well, I thought Prisoners of Love was a good ep. And My Brother's Keeper was good as well. I liked the storyline in general, and that they had a reason for Danny not realizing Spectra was a ghost right away. I thought it was kind of sweet, too, with the brother/sister relationship. That delayed "Gross" reaction from Danny after Jazz kissed his head was totally something I could see my little brother doing.

(Does it count as a double post if nobody's posted in over a month? It's just, when you edit, the thread doesn't advance to the top, so nobody checks it, but if it does count as double posting I'll never do it ever again.)
DoctorNeon
(Does it count as a double post if nobody's posted in over a month?

I think if at least 24 hours has passed, it's probably okay.
Yes, I'm waiting for new episodes. It's too good. Damn that Nick, keeping me hooked on this kind of stuff!
savetheyak
It's tied with Fairly Oddparents. The jokes are funnier and a lot smarter, but there are less of them because you have to fit in action.

And word to whoever said they hated the theme song. I wish they just did an episode that explained everything, and we would get a normal theme song.
tabbystar7
I'm waiting for new episodes.

I actually had to check my TV listings to see if this week's episode was a new one before I agreed to go to my friend's birthday party. See, my VCR can't be set beforehand to record at a certain time for some reason, and the last time I tried to record on her VCR, it cut off the first part. Luckily for her, it's a rerun.
DoctorNeon

I'd ask "Reel Big Fish" to write it, a nice ska beat with almost no lyrics. It could happen.
It's tied with Fairly Oddparents.

I'd like a crossover episode, really.
savetheyak
Do you mean something like what they did with Jimmy Nuetron and Fairly Oddparents, having them switch places? They'll probably only do a crossover if that one was popular.
tabbystar7
If they did a crossover, it wouldn't be exactly like the Jimmy/Timmy one. Danny and Timmy show evidence of living in the same universe. Also, they probably couldn't pull off the big switch as easily, with the age difference.
tabbystar7
Did you hear that the new episode, Shades of Gray, was supposed to air on the 30th? I guess Nickelodeon messed up the schedule, so we're stuck with a rerun (again). Honestly.
tabbystar7
Does anyone ever post here? Anyway...4 new episodes are coming in September.

Sorry about the multiple posting, but no one knows that there's new stuff in here if you just edit; the thread doesn't go to the top. And it's been a while since anyone else was in here.
DoctorNeon
I'm still a little heartbroken without a daily dose of Candace Bailey, but I'll tune in.
slaughteredlamb

Finally. It seems like every other time I try to watch, it's the same two episodes.
tabbystar7
Yeah. I can't wait till Shades of Gray. I want to see the way Jazz reacts to knowing about Danny's secret. Is she going to cover for him at times, or just keep things business as usual?
tabbystar7
Oh, damn. Nickelodeon is screwing with the schedule yet again. Because they're stupid, and feel the need to rearrange the schedule every five minutes, only one new episode. Shades of Gray will be airing on the 24th. *sigh* Honestly...
tabbystar7
Anyone else happen to see Shades of Gray? It was finally aired, the 24th. I thought it was really good. Vlad had a couple of quick appearances, and we had a Sam/Danny fake-out-make-out, as well as a strange twist on the old "a boy and his dog" theme (not to mention the stupid 'Who Let the Dogs Out' joke). Jazz did not make an appearance, so no reaction thus far to her knowing about Danny's secret. All in all, though, I thought it was a good episode.
LittleSable
It's amazing that a cartoon fourteen-year-old boy is what turns me into a squee-ing fangirl. I can't help it- I love Danny. And if he were real, and a little older, I'd be all over him.

So, the episode with Jaz's ghost boyfriend was new, right? It was pretty good. Lots of good gags with the parents. "Aw, but I wanted to use the bat."
tabbystar7
Oh my god, someone else replied to this thread? Where was I? Anyway...wow with the new episodes, huh? It's what, one or two per century? I can't stick with a show that only plays reruns, Nickelodeon, come on, here. But when they do play them, they're cool.
LittleSable
Man, this thread needs revived. There have been a ton of new episodes and there's another this Friday.

I'm not digging the new logo on Danny's costume. However the episode it was introduced in was funny- I loved Paulina's line after seeing the pinked-out Sam: "She gave up her individuality for a boy! I'm so proud of her!"

I hope they bring back Captain Youngblood for another go 'round. But I still can't figure out where the writers are going with the ghosts: some seem to by the spirits of dead people, while others are just monsters.
anybodysfool07
I just started to get into this show, but the showings of it are really erratic. Does anyone know when it is regularly on?

However the episode it was introduced in was funny- I loved Paulina's line after seeing the pinked-out Sam: "She gave up her individuality for a boy! I'm so proud of her!"

Somehow, I have to make that my new catchphrase.
LittleSable
The special, "Reign Storm" was pretty good. Vlad Masters is a good villian; I love Martin Mull's voice work there, even though I'm always thinking "Colonel Mustard" in the back of my head.

As the series goes on, I love Maddie more and more. Such a kick-ass mom.
tabbystar7
I'm always thinking "Colonel Mustard" in the back of my head.

Oh, good, I'm not the only one.

I'm not too much of a fan of the new logo, either, but it looks like it's here to stay being as it's become a part of the opening credits.

Reign Storm was cool; it was nice to see all the old villains, like Ember. (Though who'd have guessed that every villain Danny's ever defeated would be traveling in a group together? Maybe they formed a club or something?) Vlad's constantly bringing a touch of humor to his evil plots, as well, which is great.
MegaJ
I'm starting to get into this show as well. The action is pretty good, and the characters are pretty rounded. The "love square" between Danny, Sam, Valerie, and Paulina is the most interesting part. And "Reign Storm" rocked.
DumbBrunette
Count me in as another who's starting to get into the show. Any show with Ron Perlman means my viewership, although I officially love Butch Hartman. Both this and The Fairly Oddparents rock far too much for me to deny it any longer.
DumbBrunette
It's been more than twenty-four hours so. . .

Nick.com has a trailer for the new mini-movie, "The Ultimate Enemy" that's a bit more revealing about the movie. Kinda spoilery, especially the summary which pretty much ruins the secret of who the ultimate enemy is, so beware if you want to be surprised.

Also beware on-screen TV Guides, which ruined it for me. I'm very curious as to what reason they'll give for Danny's becoming evil.
GirlieZot
The Movie was cute, I just wished they had shown more future people. I thought it was funny that Clockwork keep cycling through different ages. Hope they have another mini movie.
Jilly Copper
I liked the movie. Especially Danny's reaction to finding out who BoxLunch was the daughter of.

"Ew!"
MegaJ
This series is really, really good. The Ultimate Enemy special was great.
fatneck
So how many ultimate evil is this show gonna face? I mean seriously, isn't it a little too early in this series to be having all these so-called 'epic' battles of good vs. evil?
Is Tucker and Sam gonna be the next two Ultimate Enemy? Because if Danny WAS the Ultimate Enemy than won't anything afterwords, NOT be the Ultimate Enemy?
lrdmordain
Ok, am I the only one who enjoyed it but at the same time wonderd about the various plot holes in the story?

1. What causes danny to go evil originally? It was shown that him cheating on the test causes lancer tocall the family to Nasty burger. But right there it stops making sense. Nasty burger only blows up because of Danny's fight with box-lunch, who adorable by the way, which caused one of the heating units to hit the sauce tank and eventually overheat the exploding sauce. He only fights with box-lunch because Clockwork send her after him. Clockwork sends her at the request of the overseers. The Overseers only do this because of future evil danny. Which brings us back to how did it all begin? There has to be an original event chain that dosnt invovle clockwork or else Evil danny couldnt have existed to begin with since he loses at the end of the movie and danny dosnt become evil, mostly thanks to clockwork.

2. How does removing danny's ghost half equate to removing danny's emotion and pain? For that matter why does the ghost half attack vlad? is it naturally evil and danny's goodness keeps it in check? Why does it merge with Vlad's ghost anyway. And how, if it blew up vlad's place and killed danny in the process, does vlad survive if he was in the same room?

3. Evil danny said he gains the wail power 10 years in the future, where when he gains it he uses it to destory the future city. This conflicts with what ember says. Given her...size, it must have taken awhile for her to grow to that level, so why would evil danny have used his new power to destory her vocal chords and then wait months before attacking the city, it dosnt make sense.

4. Last one I promse. Clockwork despoists Danny back at the end of the test at the end of the movie just as his evil self was about to hand in the test. We see jazz just make it to the door just like she did before when she was stopped by evil danny. This means that everything that happend up to that point, still happend. That means that there is still another good dany stuck in the future in the ghost zone and will be free'd just like he was before. So are there now going to be two dannys? What about the nasty burger? is it still going to explode? I'm so confused.
DumbBrunette

I'm not saying I buy the explanation, and I really don't (why couldn't Danny simply have given in to Vlad and been corrupted by power? The story would have been so much better) but my theory is that the ghost half can't survive by itself. So the nearest source was either Vlad's ghost half or human half, and he chose ghost.
This conflicts with what ember says. Given her...size, it must have taken awhile for her to grow to that level, so why would evil danny have used his new power to destory her vocal chords and then wait months before attacking the city, it dosnt make sense.

And how is it even possible that she could've bulked up anyway? She's a ghost, she doesn't eat. And as cute as Box Lunch was, I don't particularly buy ghosts being able to do the nasty.
It boggles the mind, doesn't it? I assume something else happened for the Nasty Burger to blow up, but the special seemed to suggest that the same thing happened in the first timeline.

I love time travel. I really, really do. But I hate the paradoxes it creates in shows.

I was a little disappointed, but I did love it. Much better than "Reign Storm".
InvaderNorbert
So how many ultimate evil is this show gonna face? I mean seriously, isn't it a little too early in this series to be having all these so-called 'epic' battles of good vs. evil?

Probably because Butch Hartman & the staff are smart. Most Nick animated shows end in one of 2 ways:

1) some get all the milk sucked out of it for marketing and such for years and years until it overstays its welcome, then the cow is slaughtered to make burgers, then the remains are recycled so the process starts again on another show. (good examples: Rugrats, any of Klasky-Csupo's other "Shows", Spongebob)

2) the ones that fans find "great" and "brilliant" don't usally last longer than 2 years, and the ones that do get rid of what made it awesome in the first place. (good examples: Doug, Ren & Stimpy, Rocko's modern Life, Angry Beavers, Invader Zim, and I'm not so keen on investing on the future of Catscratch, the newest show I actually like besides Danny Phantom)

Either way, I haven't had a chance to see Ultimate Enemy yet, but I'm hearing good things from you guys.
