I was just watching my Season One DVD (shut it everybody!), and I realized a few things.
Jess was such a good singer back then. She sounded great during the USO show. What happened? When did she add all that breathy crap?
Nick and Drew were so hot back then. They're hot now, but they were smokin' at granny's wedding.
Jessica looked gorgeous back then. She had the clean face/lip gloss look more often, which I think suits her best. These days it's just black rimmed eyes and pale lip. Yuck.
They weren't mean to eachother. They had more respect during their little spats.
Drew's wife used to act as silly as Jess. I think she's toned it down since then, but they were both pretty ditzy. Not annoying though.
Kentucky guy and wife were there in season one, but they weren't camera whores. I saw them in probably 2 shots, and that was by accident.
These were just some observations I made. I was a little sad that things have changed so much. I"m such a loser!

Jessica once again proves that all she needs is a big, shiny rock to be happy. I like emeralds, but that was too big and tacky.
Just caught this episode, that was the tackiest, ugliest looking thing I've ever seen, it would look good with Nick's gawdy watch.

Oh yeah. The wheels are coming off, the wings are on fire, the ship is sinking...
It's only a matter of time before this marriage is just smoldering wreckage.
Also, I may be a wanker, but Drew seems like a genuinely nice guy, not hung up on himself, smarter than his brother, way less of a poseur. His wife doesn't seem so bad either.

I agree...although I do think she was annoying in addition to being ditzy. I think she played it up for the cameras, figuring that people thought Jess was funny, so she would come off that way too. I always wondered why I read so many posts praising Leah, saying how cool she was, how lucky Drew was, and how Leah seemed to hate Jessica. Especially in the camping episode, Leah is just as lazy, selfish and annoying as Jessica. At one point the guys are putting up tents or something and Leah goes "We don't have to do anything!" She whines the whole time about helping load the car, putting the bikes on the back of the car, setting up, and just wanting to read Danielle Steel.
I definetly think Drew dislikes Jessica though - I wouldn't be suprised if he told Leah to quit the ditzy act and stop acting like her, b/c its just not funny.

WHY did Nick give Jessica the gigantic emerald? Do they just buy each other bling now for any old reason? "Honey, I saw that you picked up a used Kleenex and threw it in the trash like a good girl. Here's a 25-carat emerald!"
Yes, Jessica used to look so much better with the "clean" face look and some lipstick. She looked crazy at the New Year's Eve dinner with that bad hairdo that J. Lo did at the Grammys once and way too much eyeliner. And does anyone else think that the New Year's Eve dinner did not actually take place on NYE?
Although I'm sure I'll be pelted with rotten vegetables, I have to agree with the poster who said that Casee is looking really good now. She's actually quite beautiful in some shots this season. She seems to have lost just enough weight and I'm sure that from hanging with Jessica she has picked up some good advice from professional makeup people. Also, she probably has her hair done at an expensive salon now. It's all made a difference. But she's still Casee.

I like Cacee. I too think her looks are improving now that she has moved to L.A. Ironically, hanging around Jessica has made her more attractive, but Jessica herself is declining in her looks. I like Cacee because despite everything she has one quality that makes up for it all. The fact that she is going to very likely contribute greatly to Jessica's eventual downfall.
ETA:
Anyone else notice the looks Cacee was giving Jessica while they were getting their hair done and Jessica was going on and on about how early she has to get up and work?
By the way, I was fantasizing about Jessica being pushed into the pit with all the gators during their visit to the "gator farm." Anyone else have similar fantasizes during that time?
The scene where Nick keep trying to tickle Jessica and she wanted him off and even hit him, was very telling. So were his comments during that time. "I gave up trying to turn you on a long time ago." Hee!

I'm so glad I'm not the only person who thinks that the heavy eye/nude lip looks like crap. Jessica has been rockin' a "Trophy wife" look the last few episodes (especially NYE and Orange Bowl) - all big hair and bigger tits and tight clothes and fuck-me heels. It does NOT flatter her. She looks so much better more natural, and not all tarted up.
It occured to me the other day that, as much as I want to like Nick, he may be at least as shallow as Jessica. I think he feels about Jessica the same way Jessica feels about her LV bags - very pretty in a "look at me!" kind of way. A status symbol, but nothing of REAL substance...she gets bored with it and moves on to other stuff. All the rumors point to him doing basically the same thing... Anyone else? Or am I just over-tired?

Hmmm...interesting episode. I can't call it though. Sometimes they seem happy, sometimes they seem on the brink of disaster. I wasn't irritated tonight. I liked Jessica's hair, i liked her dress, Nick was kinda sweet, KCee was quiet... Something's wrong. And next week looks like it'll be even better. Maybe Asslee was right. Maybe getting your hair cut does change your life...

I still think Cacee is a total loser. Who would have thought that your life's ambition was to answer the phone and manage appointments for your childhood friend? If I were her, I'd always feel like a second class citizen.
I thought it was rather odd that Nick flies all the way to Baton Rouge, yet when he gets there he stays in the studio until after Jessica goes to sleep. I thought the whole point to go there was to see her.
Loved watching Nick and yet another do-it-yourself project. Too funny.

I may have missed something, but I don't get why anyone thinks KCeigh used to be poor. On the first episode of last season, where she made her first appearance, she was wearing expensive clothing and carrying a $800 Marc Jacobs bag. Plus, her attitude is very spoiled and entitled. Plus, I don't see the superficial Jessica having trailer park girls in her posse in high school. I wouldn't want to be stuck in some backwater like Waco, Texas, but being from there doesn't make you underprivileged.

I've never liked him, and that's why. He goes on about how she likes jewelry, but he was pretty happy when she bought him those big obnoxious hubcab rim things for his car. I don't see how that's less superficial than a diamond bracelet.
I thought it was sad last night how he seemed happy to see her for about two minutes, a little grab and tickle (so junior highish), and then he's totally distracted by whatever sporting event is on television.

Two quick thoughts on last night, neither of which have anything to do with the other:
1) The conversation between Nick and Jess on their computer cams was uncomfortably strained. I know it's tough to communicate with those means, but did anyone else thing it was bizarre and stilted.
2) I have a growing affection for Personal Trainer Mike. Totally cute, keeps his mouth closed, and seems to be more of an observer than a participant. More of him, please.

Didn't I read somewhere that CaCee actually worked for Sony and that's how she met Jessica? I could've sworn someone said she also worked for Beyonce and got a thank you in her solo album.
I don't mind Cacee as much this season and I think Nick totally wants to bone her...if they haven't already.

Yeah, but that wasn't the beginning of her being a personal assistant to Jessica.
Or to apparently other people because:
I could've sworn someone said she also worked for Beyonce and got a thank you in her solo album.
I just checked the thank yous on Beyonce's album and if her name is CaCee Cobb, then maybe she did work for her once upon a time. Maybe that all came about because she knew Jessica though, because its been my understanding that she and Jessica were friends back in Texas.

Part of me wants to say this episode shows that there marriage is good and they are happy...but it seemed so um, contrived??
As others have said, they are alternately mildly amused with, or very annoyed by and tired of eachother. Say what you will about sex being an important part of a relationship, but this bit of dialogue at the restaurant was very revealing:
After dinner, Nick comments on how nice Jess looks in her dress, "especially your chest!"
Then a moment later, he says (in that suggestive, you-know-what-I-mean voice): "Well, looks like it's time to go (with the smirk).
Jessica: "Looks like it's time to go to bed." (In that You-have-no-chance-of-getting-laid voice that all women learn)
Nick: "That what you alway say..."
He sounded so sad, I actually felt sorry for him. Then again, maybe part of the problem is that he announces it in front of the cameras, like "yeah, no pressure or anything, but could you please give the national television viewing audience some sort of outward indicator that you'll have sex with me when we get back to the house?

Word! And add to that Jessica's "wife" act. She obviously buys into the theory that all husbands want sex and all wives want to fake a headache and go to bed. Seriously. These two should have done premarital counseling of some sort. She has such a skewed view of marriage, and she "acts" it out. He has "conquered" the great Jessica, and now feels the need to show the world, thereby puffing up his ego.
It gives me a headache sometimes.

He might have stayed longer if she wasn’t such a frigid bitch and basically told him to fuck off.
Whatever crumb of doubt I had about success of this marriage was gone after watching this episode. These two lead completely separate lives and whatever sexual spark they once had is beyond gone.

Cacee was always on Newlyweds. Way back when in Season One. She was about fifty pounds heavier. I am talking about as far back as the episode where they went to the Bahamas. But back then she was seen and not heard. She was also in the episode about Jessica's 23rd birthday. At that time she was the road manager. Again. Seen. Not Heard. She got camera time in the first part of Season Two and then her speaking role in the second half of Season Two. This is around the time Pa was pushing for her spin-off show. (Maybe they were joking about that.)
In the Elle article they referred to Cacee as a walking Jessica Simpson infomercial. Apparently she credits Jessica for her transformation into whatever the hell she is today. And in Vanity Fair it mentioned that she was from Texas and worked at Columbia Records. I think someone mentioned that her father worked for them and that is how she got her job. I think that is the connection. I do not believe that these two were friends from childhood. Ashlee's assistant was mentioned as being a childhood friend. I peeped her wedding party photos and Cacee was not in it. Ashlee's assistant, Drew's wife, and Kentucky Fried Tony's wife were among the recognized faces.
IMO her entire look is a bunch of Jessica's cast off merchandise. I don't believe she would have access to any of it if she wasn't in the Simpson cypher.
She always seems like the 3rd wheel. And when they are all coupled up pick any odd number. Pa leaked some info to Us about her dating the USC QB but I don't think that went too far. She is about 28 and that kid is about 21 or 22.

So maybe once the dust has settled on the collapse of his marriage, impending divorce, and boink-a-thon with all the little starlets he can get his hands on, there's a DIY home improvement show in the cards for Nick and Drew. Her father being a record executive and using his pull to get her a job makes more sense to me than the other story. Like I said, she just seems privileged and has a sense of entitlement. If her father's a record exec, I'm not sure why you would assume Jessica provides her with stuff instead of her dad. Of course, she could pick up a lot of stuff of the floor at Jessica's house, and she'd never even miss is.
So were these articles you're referring to about Jessica with a side mention of KayC, or was she actually featured?

The articles were about Jessica. Elle was a cover and Vanity Fair was a feature. I believe the Reagans were on the cover. I don't know where you would find it online. But it was from last year.
I never got the privileged and entitled attitude from seeing her on the show. When Nick took her to look for apartments it didn't look like they were looking in an upscale neighborhood. It didn't look bad either. It looked regular. I could have sworn she was driving a Honda. (My car of choice.)
She is either getting her food, carrying her dog, carrying her luggage, filling out her dental forms, carrying her shopping bags or telling Jessica how great she is. She may pull rank among the other minions. But outside of the minion circle? Not so much.

That's the way I remember it. Most of those apartments were about 500 times better than where I lived when I was her age.
I don't think her willingness to carry luggage somehow makes her down-to-earth. She certainly doesn't act like an employee. Wasn't there a time when she ordered Nick to make her a sandwich? I know she was just flirting with him, but still. For a person who had experience working for a record company, CaySee doesn't seem very involved in anything substantial. Ashlee's assistant seems contribute so much more. She seems to be involved in every aspect of her career. CaySee just seems to mostly hang out and go shopping with Jessica and eat their food.
I guess I thought everyone who wants to break into Hollywood does time being a personal assistant before they move on to other things, and that's what she's doing. Her father will probably get her a high-level job at the record company before too long after she puts in her time as a PA. (Of course, as a disclaimer, I know nothing about personal assistants first hand; everything I know I learned from Andy Dick's show, where a bunch of college-educated, kids competed to carry Andy's bucket of puke for a chance to break into Hollywood.)

Oh, I agree with that completely. I never meant to imply she was serious about her career. I think she's just using daddy's connections to play at a career until she finds a rich guy to pay her way. That's another reason I assumed she's from a well-off family.

I get the impression she really doesn't want a "career." I know she went to college, but who knows whether she graduated or not. She doesn't seem too ambitious, since she first worked for daddy before working with for Jessica. I think she's just working until she becomes some athlete's wife. She will probably stop working then.
I also think they met through the industry when Cacee worked for Columbia Records. Cacee just may be from Texas, hence, the "friend from Texas" title. Wish they would just clarify that to the media so they would stop calling Cacee a "childhood friend." Unless of course there is more to the story.
That's another reason I assumed she's from a well-off family.
Actually, her lack of ambition was what surprised me because of the fact that she comes from a upper class family. I've known many a well-off family, and that fact at times just added the pressure for the kids to have a career of there own. They may use their family's connections alot, but they still want a name for themselves. Many would consider my family well-off, but that just made it even more important for me to have my own career. It would be an embarrassment for them if I was following Jessica Simpson around holding her coat.

I've know my share of well-off people too, and I find some to be exactly as you described and others to be just like KaeCeigh. When I was in college, there were a lot of rich girls from Long Island. They all studied liberal arts and had boyfriends in medical school. Once I heard this girl going on and on to her friend about how her boyfriend thought she was superficial, and she totally wasn't because if she was, she wouldn't be dating a guy in dental school, she'd be totally looking for a guy in med school.
She always gave me a privileged vibe, and finding out she's working her dad's connections and looking to date rich makes sense, rather than, as others were speculating, the Simpsons somehow saved her from a life of poverty in Waco. I never meant to imply that all well-off girls were like her.
It would be an embarrassment for them if I was following Jessica Simpson around holding her coat.
I always wondered who these people are who aspire to a life of being a personal lackey. I'm from a working class background, and the majority of kids I grew up with aspired to do better than their parents and make something of themselves. It would also be an embarrassement to follow Jessica around and hold her coat. Many of us had immigrant grandparents who worked in menial jobs, and it would be an insult to their sacrifices to not aspire to something better. So I don't get who these people are.

Yes!!! Screw the "Nick Lachey Project" or whatever that show is going to be called. My favorite episodes of Newlyweds are when Nick and Drew are trying to do something themselves. It shows how REAL people deal with trying to do home improvements themselves, as opposed to professional carpenters. Perhaps the editors are so used to altering reality at this point, they have trouble keeping everything straight. You know, like when you tell a lie, then tell another one to cover it, after a while, you just lose your mind. Picture them: Bleary, bloodshot eyes, faces lit only by the glow of banks of monitors reflecting looped footage of semi-nude Jessica (powder still on the end of her nose) slamming the door to her Dukes trailer in the face of the cameraman, Johnny Knoxville just visible in the background, clad only in boxers and a trucker hat, smoking a cigarette, scratching his sack. The dry erase board on the wall only has two lines on it:
Nick and Jessica: Love eachother.
Ashlee: super talented, fans really supportive.
Give those editors a break, dammit. They don't have much to work with.

I think you're talking about Jeff. He's working on a solo career of his own (maybe an appearance on Newlyweds would help him). I thought I remembered hearing there were some issues between him and the rest of the band (or maybe just Nick) when they broke up, but I don't know any details. Cacee couldn't be any happier though. She
looks better with her hair straight and blond.
So, Jessica got herself
another assistant, at least for that day. Yes, that makes Jessica
much happier.
ETA:
Jessica's face is looking gross lately. I don't know why people think she looks hot!

Oh Baylor, you make me miss Fame Tracker even more. *sigh* You always pull through with the BEST pictures!
I would agree CaCee looks very pretty with straight hair. I would venture to say Jess may be the poor man's CaCee.
One trend I will never understand is the stirup pants (I knew they would be back eventually) and tall boots. They make everyone look hippy and much bigger than they are. Bad trend, very bad trend.

The conversation between Nick and Jess on their computer cams was uncomfortably strained. I know it's tough to communicate with those means, but did anyone else thing it was bizarre and stilted.
Totally. And the content of the conversation: “You having fun
in Baton Rouge?” "We’re apart so much I thought this way we could keep in touch.” (Those aren't close to actual quotes, but you get my drift.) Is all that exposition really needed for them to have a conversation with each other, or was the whole thing just grossly over-staged? I could easily get onboard with a theory that the whole thing was faked.
Nick came off as a complete lecherous pig to me in this episode. Mauling Jessica in the kitchen in front of anybody unfortunate enough to walk through, stroking his own boob during the video conversation, leering at her in a way that, to me, was so not cute in the restaurant. If my husband acted like that, I'd be completely turned off come bedtime, too. God, did I just defend Jessica? Must go boil self to hopefully feel clean again.

I can say, as a guy who has learned to, in Jessica's words: "caress instead of grope", that he approached her in the kitchen like an 18 year old hornball. Maybe it's his own fault he doesn't get laid more. Check my previous post on the restaurant conversation, and you begin to come down more on her side of things. I also will now purify myself with vinegar and rubbing alcohol.
You know what? Fuck you Nick. She was a dumb ass bitch when you married her, and you were just thinking with your dick. It's your own fault. *SIGH*

Ick. Her "new assistant" looks like that girl Kimmy, that was Anna Nicole's so-called assistant.

THAT has been bugging me since last night...I don't get it?? Was he staying at Drew's house? Was he at his other wifes house? Does he sleep in the guest room now?
I have no idea where Nick was (I figured that was part of the studio room), but they were definitely in different houses -- that was the kitchen of the Baton Rouge house. It just looks a whole hell of a lot like their kitchen at home.
