Heh. Excellent point, DrCher.
I missed the last ep (although I'm sure it will be on 20 times this weekend). Why was she wearing a brown wig? Was it for The Dukes of Hazzard? How did she look with brown hair?

deelight, I believe they put the dark wig on her for The Dukes of Hazzard. And you know,
she looked a whole lot like Ashley, nose and all, in a side shot. But when she put the cowboy hat on and looked into the mirror, she actually looked pretty cute (until she opens her mouth, that is).
It kills me that she's so awful to Nick. That man should be cherished! The latest episode of Nick and his buddies goofin' in Cabo .... LOVE! He's adorable! When's he going to realize he deserves so much more than what Jessucka unwillingly gives him? And I swear, I almost cried when she bitched continuously about the stupid couch, instead of praising him for the beautiful new recording room. Her parents should be ashamed of themselves!

Picture it:
Nick, Bobby Brown, Ja-Rule, Vanilla Ice, The re-animated corpse of Rick James (Bitch!), and Kevin Federline (since he's a has-been before he's even started), all doing a remake of "Hangin' tough", but with more rapping, more bling, and more desperation. Can you say "EXXXTRAVAGANZA"? Maybe it will be on Telemundo. The kicker? An Iced out, G'd up MC Papa Simpson, shirtless, arm in arm with Ja, screaming out "Hollaa!"

Jessica may be using coke but it doesn't mean she's an addict - yet. There are a lot of recreational drug users and she might be in the "just getting started" phase. A brand new or occasional cokehead acts very different than someone severly addicted and sniffing all day every day. Who knows if she used coke or not, but I wouldn't say that she definetly can't be just because we don't see her struggling on tv.
The waiter at that football dinner was rude!! I think Nick was well within his rights to break. THe man spilled and didn't even apologize.

Dude, I have heard countless stories of kids on Spring Break getting arrested for no reason so the cops can extort a bribe down in New Orleans during Mardis Gras ! They do that stuff down there all the time. According to friends of mine who have had other friends arrested, don't even look cross-eyed at a cop in New Orleans (including jumping the street barriers, parking in the wrong spots, and being caught drunk in public), as they are so corrupt they will take you in on general principles.

MTV is footing the bill for all of that shit. At least that is the impression I got. Nick didn't act like he cared too much about the 10K.
As for the recording studio, I figured that MTV footed the bill on that one too. Aren't they selling this house after the show is over?

Really? Is that because MTV owns the house or because Jess & Nick are more famous than they used to be and need to step up their lifestyle? I'm actually rather curious about what MTV does and doesn't pay for.

I wasn't under the impression that MTV pays for anything and everything that Nick and Jessica do. They already pay them a large amount of money to agree to even do the show and have the cameras follow their every move. Why would MTV pay for all of their dinners, Jessica's shopping, Nick's Miami trip, Cabo, etc.? It seems to me that Nick and Jessica should use their own money for that.
I don't think MTV owns the house.
Nick and Jessica own their house. I think I remember reading about it in the LA Times Real Estate section when they bought it. They both had condominiums in the same building in the prestige Wilshire Corridor which they sold.

I feel the opposite. If MTV wants to make it into an episode on their network and sell it to advertisers and then put it out on DVD. Let them foot the bill.
If N&J managers have not negotiated that into their contracts they are idiots.

This weeks Parade magazine says that Jessica made $4 million in 2004. Now I could definitely deal with making that kind of money, but it seems to be on the low side with all that she did last year. She had her album, variety specials, this show, her dessert stuff. Besides that, wouldn't she have signed a contract to do Dukes Of Hazzard last year? I don't know how those things work, but wouldn't she have been paid for it in 2004?

Borrower(s): LACHEY, NICHOLAS S, Married Man as his sole and separate property
Nick re-financed the house in 9/03 with a loan of $1.45 million with an Adjustable rate mortgage. I don't know what sole and separate property means with California law, but above is how it is listed in public records.
eta: Above appears to be a refinance. He purchased as single or unmarried in 06/02 with a loan of $1.1 million on a 30 fix note. I think sale price was $1.685 million. Again, all public records.

As I said before over on this side of the Atlantic we are only after getting this season of the Newlyweds and right now we are seeing Jessica in Baton Rouge for her movie. I'm amazed that this is the first time I've ever seen this girl/ woman do anything for herself and anything vaugely adult and that was picking up after her dog went to the toilet on the carpet in the spare bedroom of the house.

If Nick bought the house and he and Jessica moved in after they were married, then Nick must have been the one with more money and acting in the traditional role of providing for his wife. Having things flip financially can be quite an adjustment in a marriage, but I think I would be able to live with it if the bottom line was that we were fuckin rich, separately and together. Nick seems to have accepted this aspect of their marriage and enjoying the money. I don't understand why the house is still only in his name though since her income is probably paying for it.

Plus there was the Pizza Hut promotion, DVD sales, some other promotion with Ashlee that I can't remember, and I think she has a book out about weddings or something. $4 million definitely sounds low. I thought advertising deals paid big money, but maybe I'm wrong.
I'm actually rather curious about what MTV does and doesn't pay for.
I guess MTV would have to have something to do with the trips especially, since a lot of them looked staged and only existing for the purpose of the show.

That $4M figure for her income sounds like it was taken from
here. And that is from the end of 2003.
I want to see what Forbes has to say about her income from last year.
I think I said this before but I read that these two do not have a pre-nup. Do you think Pa has tried to get her to have Nick to sign a post-nup? Wouldn't Nick be in fat city without a pre-nup? He could be making out better than her pimp Daddy without the leg work. I wonder if this grates on Pa's nerves considering he was dead set against the marriage.

Must have been Jessica and Ashlee. He is quite the pimp. I wonder what percentage he gets of their income. Is there a standard percentage that managers get? He probably actually makes more off of Newlyweds than Jess and Nick since he's an executive producer. You really can't fault his business sense, that's why MTV and record companies kiss his ass.

God only knows what that figure represents . . . my suspicion is that it's a figure from her 2004 tax return that represents taxable or adjusted gross income. Her total receipts would only have been officially available in the past six weeks.
And that's just personal income. Jessica is incorporated in some way (remember the stalker episode when she wanted her cell phone to start being listed and billed to her "company"?). A lot of her promotional proceeds and royalties are probably reportable on her business' return. That information usually comes in later and most businesses are accrual-method taxpayers, so that affects it too.
Back to outlining tax . . .

I had always wondered if people with $$$$ still got out home loans to pay for their mansions. However, if he had the money, why on earth would Nick get out a loan for $1.1 million? The majority of the interest is paid in the first few years, and I can't even imagine what kind of interest that would be on such a large loan. Or maybe they get the loans to help their credit (not that they need that, either)?

Actually, I think you get a tax credit when you pay a mortgage (which you wouldn't be eligible for if you bought it outright.) Also, as Mr. Hollers pointed out, why not use your money for other stuff, and use someone else's money to pay for the house?

Absolutely it makes sense to mortgage as much as possible. When you're paying about 6% interest, plus it's tax deductible you're better off paying cash for your wasteful spending rather than using a credit card at 10-12% interest (or more).

Newlyweds. They were both C/D list stars and did not have as much money. Remember back in the first season when Nick would freakout over Jessica's shopping ($700 for undies)? I assume that they had a fair amound of money compared to your average person (especially for people their age),but I don't think that they actually had enough cash at the time for Jessica to be throwing it around, like it was no big deal. Lately she definitly does not freak about spending a few hundred dollars on a bra.
Also I think I remember her commenting in the Rolling Stones article (with her on the cover), that she was happy that they could pay off their mortgauge, because they were just starting to make a lot of money.
So it would make complete sense for them to have had to take out a loan for that house.

I thought I read they were selling it because they wanted to move closer to the city and that strangers were ringing thier doorbell.
They live in a gated community, so I can't imagine a lot of tourists and celeb hunters just walk up to their house, but then there are neighbors, and kids, friends, and relatives of neighbors, thus I guess maybe it does happen enough to make them want to move. Plus, they probably want and can now afford a bigger house that no one will recognize. The thought of them selling the house reminds me of the $25,000 closet room that Nick gave Jessica as a Christmas gift. Guess that won't be moving with them, but maybe the next owners will really appreciate it, unlike Jessica.
And then there's Nick's wonderful green lawn! How could he stand to leave it? Will we get a tearful goodbye scene with him walking over it barefoot one last time?

But since they live in a gated community, those would have to have been neighborhood kids. They could deal with that by complaining to the kids' parents, the security guards, the community association. So they'll now move to another gated community with other kids who will do the same -- what a senseless waste of money, but yet not surprising. But, of course, with Jessica's sure-to-be-fabulously-successful acting career and Nick's impending latest solo album, I'm sure they'll be rolling in money. Snerk.

[o/t]My husband is in the Navy and we have been stationed in New Orleans for almost a year. One day while driving, two cars infront of us got into a very minor accident and the cop car that was behind us, just drove around them. Didn't even stop. I know he saw the accident. Hell, I know he heard the accident. We have seen fist fights on the sidewalks and cops just drive right by them. They
are corrupt down here. I have never seen one actually doing their job. [o/t]
Nick and Jess seem to be spending less and less time together every season. I know this was a while ago, but that pathetic grilled cheese sandwich Jess made Nick, made me sad. I don't know, If I'm making my husband lunch, I'll make him at least two sandwiches and make sure they aren't all crumpled.

Or, more specifically, to keep him from divorcing her.
I'd love the irony if she is pregnant after all that work to lose weight and tone up. Those magazines are so funny..Jessica and Nick will probably deny the rumors, then they'll get snapped in a month or two somewhere and the headlines will be.. "Jessica already gaining the weight back! Fab back to Flab!" Then in 2 more weeks, they'll go public that she is pregnant.
ITA with everyone who thinks she looks worse now. VH1 has a show going on with the top 100 bodies or something, and when I saw the clip on Jessica, I thought, "Crap. There's 3 minutes of my life that I'll never get back now."

Regarding the nip-slip (which I greatly enjoyed while slugging down the days first cup of coffee), as far as boob authenticity goes, she is young, which is a point on the perky side, but as described by her and her pervy dad, she's had big boobs since forever, which is a big point on the saggy side. However, they have all kinds of shirt with built in support nowadays, so it's hard to say for sure. I tend to think they're real, but that's just because it pains me to think otherwise.
