Sistersledge, I get what you're saying. However, I don't think anyone is personally insulting Bush supporters, per say. They are insulting Jessica for claiming to "support" someone when she probably knows nothing about his platforms or beliefs. You are 100% correct that this is America and we each have the right to vote (or not vote) as we choose. As long as you are an educated voter who believes in what Bush stands for, then you shouldn't be insulted. I think posters are referring to people who are like Jessica.

Also, this is a snark forum...things are going to be touched on that may insult anyone.
bel326
When Jessica was talking to Casey about the project, Casey asked, "So does Nick even know how to do that?" and Jessica said something like, "I think Nick just learns as he does it." in her typical condescending tone. I was so annoyed with her! Yes Jessica! He learns by doing, and that's a great way to actually learn a skill! Nick so deserves a wife who will come home and positively gush over the lovely new lawn and how much hard work it must have been, take off her shoes and run across it laughing, and at night, sneak out with him and make love on it under the stars!

Arghh! I forgot about that part! As if it's so unheard of to actually try to figure something out on your own, I think that's how most newly married, first time homeowning men learn to do things around the house, they do them.

I felt so bad for him, he was probably excited about the project and she couldnt' be bothered to even listen to him and God knows she won't do anything but complain when she sees it!
DustyMama
I liked how when the job was done, Nick went out and lovingly stroked the lawn. Ah, to be that piece of sod .... *sigh*
Texaswonder
The fact Nick WANTS to do stuff on his own amazes me and if I were Jessucka, I'd thank my lucky stars I was married to that man, every single night. Ingrate.

Nick and Drew obviously grew up in a household where they were taught that the feeling of accomplishment is something to strive for and be proud of...Jessucka was taught nothing in a household where her mommy and daddy did everything for her and brought it on a silver platter.

Nick...seriously....run.

Drew...love ya!
oboe_88
Ah, to be that piece of sod .... *sigh*

Hee! I thought the same thing!
Ivana Tinkle
I got a laugh out of Nick's pixelated plumber-butt at the very beginning of the show

Me too! Then I thought....why? I wouldn't have minded. ;)

This episode was so great. I loved when Jessica and KC were shopping and they HAD to flash: Gucci, Prada...etc. Yeah, we get it.

Anyway, KC was trying on shoes that she probably normally could never pay and Jessica kept saying "I don't think you should buy those" and "No those shoes aren't good for you". You could just tell KC was getting so pissed. HA! Take that!

How much do we love Nick and Drew? They are just so damn down to earth, it's refreshing to see they haven't let fame and fortune go to their heads. (And they fact that they're hot makes them all the more lovable.) I've actually met Drew once...well I met 98 Degrees at a local radio show. Nick wasn't there (sob!) but Drew and the rest of the gang were. It was funny, now that I think about it they were teasing the guys that Nick wasn't there beacause Jessica didn't want him to be away from her. Drew is very cute on television, and I adore him, but I will say this: in person his nose is HUGE. I mean, it's so big it literally makes his face look bruised. But, it doesn't matter he still gets my love.
Decormaven
With the large Sympathy Vote Nick is amassing here, it won't be long until there's a non-profit set up in his name: The Nick Relief Fund. I can see the commercial now: sad shots of Nick, unloved, unappreciated. The dollars will come rolling in! "Just think, for pennies a day, you can bring a smile to Nick's face."
Kkidman19
I have had a love for these 2 men back when they were boys in 98 degrees. I just think these 2 guys are the most down to earth celebraties out there (eventhough Drew hasnt done a thing since their last album) but I love these 2.

Now on to my boyfriend Drew. How could you marry a girl like Leah when i am still single and ready to mingle with you.

Does anyone know what Drew does besides sodding a lawn with his brother. Does he have a job?

Also in the scenes for next weeks episode is that Leah (drews wife) teaching Jessucka how to dance for her tour. I thought i read somewhere that she is or used to be a dancer.

I would defanitly watch the Drew and Nick reality show. Since this is the last season of Newlyweds maybe the producers are reading this message board and will get the Nick and Drew show ready for next season.
Hailey
I felt so bad for him, he was probably excited about the project and she couldnt' be bothered to even listen to him and God knows she won't do anything but complain when she sees it!

Much like the time she threw a FIT when he dared to make some decor improvements around the house without her permission. And yes, that STILL pisses me off.
oboe_88

Oh! If only! But if they listened to us, they probably would have had the Nick and Drew hour going awhile ago. We've been pretty Pro-Nick almost since the board began.
kallaloo
In regards to those "laborers," they're lucky that Nick and Drew kept them around as long as they did. But you have to give it the dudes...one of them DID tell Nick that doing that type of work was not his area of expertise. For God's sake...they came dressed as if they were going to hang out at a bar or in front of the local K-Mart for the day.

I hate those Do-It-Yourself shows...but I think that Drew and Nick would be a perfect fit if the show were marketed to the right audience.

But seriously, I could not take another show just featuring the brothers. They were nice and all, but too bland and normal for me to watch as a form of escape from MY normal life :-)
lids
The best part last night was the pizza discussion between the day workers. The one guy said, “I fell on my head on the plane and now I have a trigger finger.” HA HA!!! I just sat up and laughed and laughed at that scene. At first I though MTV had planted them as loser workers but they were way too funny to be plants. I mean who goes to work and does that, well, I know people do, but still, I could not believe they were that lazy on television. No jobs for you ingrates!!!!
jerry
Nick so deserves a wife who will come home and positively gush over the lovely new lawn and how much hard work it must have been
Word!

I wish they'd shown us her reaction. She could score some points with me, if she had gushed over it. It would show character development.

I'll gush instead. It really, really looks great. That was a wise home improvement, too. That area was an eye-sore that looks great now and improves the curb appeal by about 100%. It really gives the landscaping a finished look that was missing before. Nick and Drew should feel very accomplished, since they did a lot of the prep-work themselves. Great job, fellas.

I liked how when the job was done, Nick went out and lovingly stroked the lawn. - DustyMama
Word. And if I'd done all that, I'd be out there caressing my lawn too. Actually, even if I'd only paid the bill, I'd be out there lovingly massaging the grass blades. It looked like walking barefoot on it would've felt soo good.

If Nick's parents watch this show, I bet they're so proud. I would be if those were my boys.

No kidding. Both Drew and Nick come off so well on this show.

And dont you know that Joe Simpson just hates that. I'm sure when he oks these shows he thinks "He'll look like such a cheap skate" and that people will feel so bad for Jess because she has to live with such a miser. Unfortunately for him, about 99% of America cant afford the luxuries that Jess seems to take for granted and the shows do nothing but alienate us from her even more. Nick is completely relatable, Jess is NOT.
Phaedra
Man, those "laborers" were worthless!
Union workers usually are.

I'm late to the party on this one! But IF those day-workers were union, doesn't mean that's what makes them worthless. I'm union (my professional government desk job requires that we be), but that aside, what I was thinking about when those 4 guys showed up was that they didn't know they would be working outside. One guy had his heavy lifting belt on, like a furniture mover would. I just got the feeling they didn't know what task they had been sent there to do. I also sensed that they needed a foreman type person to tell them what to do (that their expertise was physical labor not mental labor).
juliaz3
maybe the producers are reading this message board

Maybe NICK is reading these boards because about 200 posts ago I was ranting on about "what the hell is that ugly area next to their house and why don't they get some landscaping or something?"

Thanks, Nick. Great episode.

It's that kind of stuff that makes this show seem scripted or manipulated. Why wouldn't they know what they were coming to do, and where were they hired from? (I missed part of the show, maybe it said?) It just seems like it was set up as a comedy bit to have the workers slack off while Nick & Drew slaved away.

They were hilarious. The slow-mo walking/funny theme music intro they got earned a giggle too. And there are so many guys like that on seemingly every block (and city bus) here in Los Angeles.

What a treat to get back-to-back episodes with almost zero Jessica!

Count me in with those who'd be perfectly pleased with Newlyweds ending its run and being replaced with a Nick & Drew reality show. How much did I miss Jessica's annoying Texas twang? Exactly not at all.
pmstranski
Is next week's episode the last of the series or the season?
oboe_88
Yes. Next week is it.

Lets all pray for a good dose of Nick and Drew. And I hope to God that CaCee moves out or we find out that she does. I'd like some closure on that issue in particular.
squirrleyQ
You know you all might be surprised at Jessica's political knowledge. She could very well keep up with it and because it wouldn't fit her "image" she just doesn't go around spouting off things about the political race. Which, personally I find refreshing. Nothing irritates me more than people who use politics to make themselves fashionable-can we say P. Diddy? I wish more young people who are voting would take the time to actually research and really look at the candidates before voting instead of taking what some one like P. Diddy says as the gospel or just going by a five minute blurb by Kurt Loder. Myself-I'm not a Republican, I'm not a Democrat I just look at the issues and who I agree with more is who I vote for because to be honest with you all politicians lie and they all say what they have to say for votes-it is their track record I look at. Maybe that's what Jessica does. I mean really we all sit in judgement of her but none of us really know her except what we see edited on a thirty minute television show that is going along with her stereotype of the dumb blonde who doesn't do anything but shop. I mean seriously none of us know how she chose the candidate she's backing so we shouldn't make fun of her for it. Just my opinion.
juliaz3
I have to admit this: I am going to be lost without my weekly dose of "Nick and Jessica" (and assorted relatives and hangers on). I have enjoyed watching this show (and snarking on it!) way too much.

When do Nick's episodes of "Charmed" start airing?
Phaedra
I wish more young people who are voting would take the time to actually research and really look at the candidates before voting instead of taking what some one like P. Diddy says as the gospel or just going by a five minute blurb by Kurt Loder.

But the stuff those guys say is actually non-partisan. Kurt Loder is a reporter, he reports the news (doesn't give editorials or opinions).
P. Diddy with his "vote or die" shirts is hoping to get more people involved in the process. He was at the Democratic convention, but also said that he will be there (with the same shirt on) at the republican convention.

MTV is really good about not taking sides on political issues IMHO.

Also, it does make sense that the Simp clan (with their religious background) would be in the republican camp.
Lizziedrew
I think this is because Jessica is only aware of how others perceive her, and does not have a well-developed sense of self. It's not "this is what I like and what feels sexy to me" but rather "this is what makes guys hot and makes me look sexy". No developed interior life, just constantly playing up (or down) to others expectations. Same thing with her stupid-blonde persona; she asks dumbass questions so that she will be perceived as cute and giggly and helpless, not because she is genuinely trying to learn.

This is from a few pages back, but she bop? WORD, and thank you. I have been trying to say this and couldn't get my head around it enough to say it this eloquently. I think you're exactly right.

Drew? Get Leah and the rest of the family and stage an intervention to get Nick away from her. I would watch the Nick and Drew show all day.

I mean really we all sit in judgement of her but none of us really know her except what we see edited on a thirty minute television show that is going along with her stereotype of the dumb blonde who doesn't do anything but shop.

Television. WITHOUT. Pity.

Why wouldn't they know what they were coming to do, and where were they hired from?

I know I can't speak for every Manpower in the country, but from my experience, there is no way they didn't know where they were going or what the job was. You have to tell the Manpower folks what your skills are. They have some jobs that they already know they need to fill (the local car wash was one) and then they have some that just get called in like Nick did. They would have been told beforehand that it was a landscaping gig and that there was a tiller involved - they don't just throw 4 guys in a truck and drive them somewhere. The one guy didn't say this wasn't his area of expertise, he said he wasn't familiar with the one particular type of tiller.

Also, they would have been informed where they were going because they would have to sign MTV releases. If it took them an hour to get there (like Nick said), they wouldn't have waited for them to get there to take a chance on them not signing (and the company not being able to provide workers for Nick, thereby losing a chance at repeat business); they would have told them about that upfront.

But this is Television Without Pity, so we have to make fun of her. We make fun of everything else about her that we don't "really know".

I read the Elle magazine article about Jessica today and had a good laugh when I read this because you know Jess must have gotten so pissed off! First her sister gets her own reality show and a hit record, and now people are "gushing" over Spacey Cacee!

On the car ride to Madison Square Garden that first afternoon, Cobb, her assistant, sounds like a late-night infomercial crowing about how much weight she's lost since she started working for Jessica in January. “These new pants? Size 6!” she says. “I was wearing 10's or 12's when I moved to L.A.” She pulls out her license to show the group her “before” picture. “And I thought I looked good then!”“It's just about getting away from Texas, where you think fried chicken is healthy just because it's chicken,” Simpson says, giving a little laugh, which is surprisingly deep and masculine.
Cobb continues her testimonial: Jessica's colorist, Rita Hazan, has transformed Cobb's hair too. “My hair used to be dark brown,” she says, wide-eyed. It's now honey blond.
When Newlyweds executive producer Rod Aissa sees Cobb at the Garden he gushes, “You look great! You're so great in the new episodes! I smell spin-off!”

You can read the rest of the Elle article here.
Ivana Tinkle
From the Elle article:

“They did not like me. They wrote die, bitch in shoe polish on my sidewalk,” Simpson says. “I mean, I had friends, and I had people that I adored.… It was only that group of mean girls that now work at Hooters.”

So THAT'S why she hates Hooters girls so much!

“She's just the perfect personality [to handle the pressures of stardom],” enthuses Jessica Melker, Simpson's best friend since junior high school. “She's always been the type of person that you're like, 'Jessica, Jessica,' and you have to say her name, like, five times before she even notices. And so when there's [a crowd] around screaming at her and stuff, a lot of times she doesn't even notice. And afterward, I'll be like, 'Oh my gosh, did you see that person do this and this and this?' She's like, 'No.' She just kind of blocks things like that out really well.”

Maybe she blocks things out really well because she's a dumbass dipshit.
cleopatraseven
Actually they are NOT union workers, but day laborers who can't find work elsewhere. They are temporary workers who show up at the temporary agency every morning and hopefully get a day job. They get paid in cash at the end of the day, most don't show up the next morning but in a couple days when the cash is gone. I speak from experience and knowledge, my brother is a "salesman" for a huge temporary day labor firm. Also, my husband is a "union worker" and he works his ass off.

Word. Here, the state agency that handles this kind of thing is called the "casual labor" office. My husband is union too and he makes my 40 hour week look wimpy.
Applehead
you're like, 'Jessica, Jessica,' and you have to say her name, like, five times

She probably forgets her name.
Joe Perry Rocks My World
Didn't Jessica say that she picked teams for the ncaa bracket because of the colors? And she picked a horse at the Derby because of the name? So I wouldn't be surprised if she picks her President some equally stupid way. Like, who has the whitest teeth or something.
nique
No one wants to give any love to the people that actually laid the grass. Nick and Drew are getting all the credit but ultimately they didn't have anything to do with it or did I miss something. But overall, yeah, I love Nick and Drew.

Isn't it amazing that Cacee has been on screen for a total of like 12 seconds in the last two weeks and yet I still manage to loathe her.

And I was completely happy when Jessica treated her like a minion instead of her "best friend" during the shoe shopping in Saks.
oldbabe
A wise poster upthread mentioned a Home Depot commercial, and I completely agree. Lowe's should sign them up immediately.

A contract with Home Depot or Lowes as their spokespersons could be very lucrative for Nick and Drew, and the right ad agency could make the commercials as entertaining as their appearances on this show. And a successful ad campaign could lead to their own show (sitcom, or celeb home improvement as described upthread, which is a great idea!). And THEN maybe Nick can run, not walk, from Simp & Co.

Nick and Drew obviously grew up in a household where they were taught that the feeling of accomplishment is something to strive for and be proud of

ITA. I could imagine their dad being very handy around the house and teaching his sons the value of a job well done.

LMAO!!!
chelseabelle
I don't think you need any kind of "expertise" to remove rocks from a field and rake dirt. Those laborers appeared straight-up lazy!

I love Nick's DIY attitude. I wonder if Jessica will even *notice* the new lawn!?
nique
I think Nick had a side deal with Lowe's. He probably played them against Home Depot. Remember in the first season when he wanted to kill the bees he went to Home Depot's for the bee killer.

I think their show has a product placement deal with several companies.
Selma04
I agree that based on what we know about Jessica, it's unlikely she could give even one example of a Bush policy she supports. My guess is that her family supports Bush because he's from Texas and they're Christian Coalition types, and Jessica just believes whatever her parents taught her. I just don't see any indication that she's got the ability or interest to form her own opinions.

I think it's a hoot that MoveOn.Org is putting together a concert tour with huge group of artists known for their depth of knowledge and activism on various issues, and the Republicans booked Jessica for their convention. Does she have any fans that are voting age and would be swayed by her support for Bush? I wonder if she's going to give a speech about saving yourself for marriage or if she's going to massacre one of our national songs complete with epileptic seizure movements and the disturbing jaw movements. I might have to watch the convention.

And word to all those who responded to the offbase comment that the day workers were union. I like the fact that Nick likes to do things for himself, but, dude, you get what you pay for. You hire a couple of guys to do day work, you get bad workers. You hire a company of professionals, like the sod layers, and you get good, well-managed workers. Those day workers just screamed right out of rehab and living in a transitional shelter to me. I did love the wacky conversations though, especially the part about the trigger finger. That was comedy gold.
nique
I think whatever she knows about politics it is because she has learned it from Nick.
KateQD
Is Nick managed by Joe Simpson?
cjane

I find frightening any person who would choose a candidate because that choice is also the choice of his or her favorite "rock star." I'd like to think voters can think for themselves. Most celebrities out shilling for candidates have no real grasp on the issues anyway.

Is Nick managed by Joe Simpson?

For Nick's sake, I hope not!
Beannie
I loved Nick & Drew's DIY gusto . . . but I hate people in the desert who want green grass, then need to find the water. Thank the lord that Nick's great home state signed an agreement with other great lake states to prevent siphioning off the great lakes water to California and like states. If Nick wants green lawns I suggest he comes home to his green state! Would love to have him back!
nique
Is Nick managed by Joe Simpson?

He is/was managed by the same guy that manages Britney. He was also the executive producer of the show. I don't know if he does either anymore.

It has also been rumored that Drew is his manager.
oboe_88
I wonder if thats true, since when he was promoting his album back in season 2 (or was it 1?) we didn't see Pa Simp or Drew. I really doubt its Pa Simp, since we just had that episode about how they were "bonding" and hadn't really gotten to know wach other "that" well. If they had been working together that wouldn't make sense.

I think it's a hoot that MoveOn.Org is putting together a concert tour with huge group of artists known for their depth of knowledge and activism on various issues, and the Republicans booked Jessica for their convention.

I know!!! I couldn't stop giggling when I read that.

nique, are u talking about Johnny Wright, the guy who manages N Sync, Justin, Britney, and BSB. I didn't know he managed Nick, Johnny is slipping, his artist are always popping on the charts and Nick's sashaed a little and then died.

Not so much. I'd venture to say unbiased reporting is a lost art in these days. That goes for either side.

And please, can we just stop this? I don't want to get banned.

Nick and Britney are managed by Larry Rudolph at ReignDeer Entertainment.

OT: Johnny Wright with Wright Entertainment Group in Orlando manages J. Timberlake, Nick Cannon, and P.Diddy.

On topic again, I think Nick and Drew should be hosts for Lowe's "House Rules" if it comes back for season 2.

Most celebrities out shilling for candidates have no real grasp on the issues anyway.

That's a rather unfair, sweeping generalization. I've heard some celebrities speak very intelligently on issues that are very close to them. Celebrities who have lost a loved one to a certain disease are often instrumental in bringing attention and funding to research. The Elizabeth Glazer Pediatric Aids Foundation springs to mind.

I agree that no one should base their vote on what their favorite celebrity believes. But some celebrities are very intelligent and involved, and have a right to speak their mind. Jessica, on the other hand, doesn't know enough to come in out of the rain.

I agree with you on that, particularly when the issue relates to personal experience. However, some of the celebs who are most vocal about foreign policy have very little grasp of the issues about which they are speaking.

But some celebrities are very intelligent and involved, and have a right to speak their mind. Jessica, on the other hand, doesn't know enough to come in out of the rain.

We all have a right to speak our minds. That's an important part of what makes this country so great.
