Jessica is just really, really, really young beyond her years, IMO.
That, and she's also really, really, really stupid.
oboe_88
ITA that she is not dangerous or deliberately harmful (except, possibly, to my eardrums) but I do think that she is particularly selfish and self-centered and the way she treats her family, Nick and pretty much the world in general bugs the crap out of me. And the ditziness that was natural in the beginning is so put on and fake now that I just want to scream "CHICKEN OF THE SEA IS OVERRRRRRRRRRR!" at the producers until their ears bleed. (Not really. But you know what I mean.)

Nick on the set of Charmed

I saw the Angels video this morning. As usual, Jessica does all these weird moves that I'm certain she thinks are sexy but instead look like she's imagining what sex would be like and how it's supposed to emote. I don't know. How can you have Nick for a husband and have no concept of what it really FEELS like? The awkward shirt grabbing, boob rubbing, body touching self gratification leaves me wanting some pepto to calm the raging turmoil in my tummy.

I think this is because Jessica is only aware of how others perceive her, and does not have a well-developed sense of self. It's not "this is what I like and what feels sexy to me" but rather "this is what makes guys hot and makes me look sexy". No developed interior life, just constantly playing up (or down) to others expectations. Same thing with her stupid-blonde persona; she asks dumbass questions so that she will be perceived as cute and giggly and helpless, not because she is genuinely trying to learn.

Nick on the set of Charmed
Mmmm, lots of pretty going on there. I may have to start watching Charmed again and ignore everything except Nick.
oboe_88
Does anyone know what Nick's role will be? I've never watched the show so I don't know much beyond that it is about some witch sisters.
rikraq
He will appear in a guest role for six episodes as a ghostwriter who fills in for columnist Phoebe (Alyssa Milano) during her sabbatical and ends up falling in love with her.
oboe_88
Thanks!

I guess I must have missed that.
hmmmm
lol! well fame does cost you your soul...

Nick on the set of Charmed

Great Scott that boy is man pretty!
schoolzout
although I don't know much about the boy band craze (I grew up in the NKOTB fiasco) what makes Nick hotter than say, Nick Carter (is that his name, from BSB? or even Justin Timberlake who Jessica brings up) is that he is a total mans-man, DIY, who sticks up for his woman.

His level headedness is what keeps him even cuter, IMO. I wonder if Alyssa is going to/has molest(ed) him.
cjane
Good Lord, I can hear it now. Jessucka starts with a breathy "coooooOOOOoooAAAOAOOAAAAAAAOOOOOOOAAAOAAME they TOOOOOoooYYOooooYooooold MEEEEEEEE pahRUMP pa PUM PuuyuyyuyuummMMMM!"

Oh my ga, that cracked me up. I hate Christmas music.

she bop, I really think you're onto something here. You've really pinned down the exact reason why she is the way she is. I truly think you're right.

Jessica has never had a chance for self-exploration or self-discovery. She never went to college, she never explored hobbies or interests, and she certainly never was able to see life from the eyes of people who are different than her. She has no concept for people whose beliefs, lifestyles, or incomes are different than hers. She really does operate in a world that she believes revolves entirely around her, and that would cease to exist if she did not stay sexy, skinny, blonde, and stupid.

This is why she will never do the following:

* She will never explore or mature musically. Most people who really love music, and who really are in it for the music, experiment, switch styles for a while, basically change from their naive beginnings. Since music seems to be on the backburner for Jessica (fame being on the front), she will not care to be creative. I think my proof in this is the fact that she is now resorting to cover songs.

* She will never change her hair. Maybe she'll go a bit different in length, but nothing too major. And I'm not talking clip on bangs or wigs with red streaks in them. That's costume stuff. I am saying that she knows what her "role" is supposed to be, and the therefore the hair must remain big, long, and shockingly bottle blonde.

* She will never become involved with anything political or (for lack of a better term), "intelligent." As people mature and discover who they are, they somehow become interested and involved in charities, organizations, etc. sharing that belief. This does not fit who Jessica "is supposed to be" at all.

I'm sure you will all be able to think of many more things to add the the list of Things Jessica Simpson Will Never Do, which, sadly, is a much longer list than Things Jessica Simpson Will Do. I figure you all get my point with these examples.

she bop said it above: Jessica is only capable of seeing herself the way others see her, and she was too sheltered and she is too apathetic to look inside and find something really worthwhile there...because to her, it's whatever brings in the fame and the big bucks.

Well, I thought, as other posters have said, she's doing cover songs because she rushed to cut some more songs to re-release her album. That being said, I agree with your point but for a different reason. There was an episode where someone at her record company was I think discussing possible cover songs, and Jessica hadn't heard of any of the artists that were brought up. She's clearly not trying to grow as an artist, not seeing what else is out there to get inspiration, not even listening to music for her own enjoyment. To me, some of the all time greatest artists have incorporated other musical styles and culture into their music, e.g. Sting, Paul Simon, etc. Jessica probably couldn't name ten other artists besides herself--not that I think she's an artist, of course, more a product.

And I know there's a lot of Nick love on this board, so I'm entering dangerous territory, but I thought Nick's few tiny little moments of acting on their wretched variety special were cringe-inducingly awful. I can't imagine he's going to be anything other than embarrasing on Charmed. Does anyone know if he's been taking lessons?

In regards to Jess' political involvement....according to CNN (CNN, people!) she is a Bush supporter and will be at the Republican Convention. I think it was mentioned on 60 Second Pop.

It boggles to think how she came up with the notion of which nominee to back.

She probably just went with who is in there now. Too much time and energy would go towards actually considering someone else, eh, Jess?

Exactly. In one episode of Newlyweds, she said that we should just trust that our leaders are doing the right thing. Because, of course, to question what they do and dig beneath what the American media feeds us would just take too much effort.

Not to get political and start a war here, but I honestly believe that a large number (not all, just a large number) of Bush's supporters are like Jessica. Take the simple way, do not question authority, just assume that everything is OK (even when its clearly not) because that is what we are being told and to consider anything else is too hard.

Yet again, the Nick and Drew show far outshines the Jessucka and KeighSea show. I was dying laughing at Nick tilling the plot...hehehehe. I wonder how long he allowed the slackers to hang around in reality...for their behavior I'd have booted them after 30 minutes of that crap.

What was Nick's square-o-gravel for, backing up in the driveway or something? Basketball court to be paved later?

I can't imagine having to lay 7k+ square feet of sod. I feel faint at the thought.
nique
Nick and Drew were looking good tonite.

The Nick and Drew Yard Improvement show may be my favorite episode of all, mostly because of them but also because there were only 2 minutes of Jess and you-know-who, and zero Simp parents in the entire show!

You know Nick hasn't gone Hollywood when his idea of improving the yard is making a trip to Lowes to find out how to do it himself, rather than picking up the phone and hiring a landscaper!

Loved the fact that they were undaunted by the magnitude of the job and wanted to do at least part of it themselves.

The scene where the day workers were eating pizza while Nick and Drew were toiling away in the heat of the afternoon -- priceless!

Favorite lines from Nick:

(after the Lowes guy tells him how many thousands of square feet of sod it's going to take) "So this wouldn't be a weekend project."

"How much would Astro Turf cost?"

(when the work was done) "Another Lachey production."

Nick thanks Drew for helping and Drew says: "Any time . . . I'm a glutton for punishment."

Love those Nick and Drew projects -- this I swear.

I love the Nick & Drew show. I didn't have to walk out on the show once this evening.

Actually, "a large number" of anyone's supporters are like that. There are just as many dumbasses on any side.

Especially since, if ever questioned about what 'glutton' is, Jessucka would most likely reply that it's some form of meat.

Hi - I'm just delurking for a sec to say I think you're right on about what makes Jessica so, well, shallow. But I think her parents are mostly to blame for that fact. Seems like from very young, she basically was a product - marketed, and valued not for any inner qualities, but for being blond, skinny and hitting the high notes. Plus it's got to be weird to have people commenting and judging you all the time. Seems like she got a lot of "be sexy", "no, too sexy" "get thinner", etc. After being valued and judged all your life by family, managers, based basically on your looks and your image, you'd start thinking that's all that DOES matter - it's been all you're told matters. I think if Jessica wasn't a singer, and had a normal upbringing, she'd be a lot cooler, & a lot less self-absorbed.
JulesP
That was the cutest display of brotherly love I've ever seen. Drew was doing some back-breaking work and didn't complain at all. He kept tilling even after those slackers got there to help out. I loved when Nick went to make the call and told Drew to take a break. Drew's response of "You don't have to tell me twice!" was awesome.

Do they dress alike on purpose? It seemed weird that they were both wearing white sleeveless t-shirts with green cargo shorts on the same day.
Gator
This was the best episode of this show ever, in my opinion. I loved it. Those workers? The laziest fucks I've seen in awhile, besides Jessica and KaighSiey of course. They were seriously on the show for all of 3 minutes. It was great.

gringa25, I completely see your point here. A lot of people on this board completely blame Jessica's parents for what she turned out to be. I, too agree with this, BUT, I think of it like this:

Many people throughout history who have been put on trial for terrible crimes (mostly murder), have tried to use the defense of "I am screwed up because of my upbringing." Many cite abuse, alcoholism, neglect, etc., and they truly believe that it completely excuses their own behavior.

OF COURSE I know that this is not even on the same level, not even close. Jessica has not committed any horrible crime (unless you count the music she has made, Newlyweds, and forcing us to look at her baboon face everywhere in the media as crimes). But, it's not entirely right for us to excuse her behavior by chalking it up to bad parenting.

Many people have grown up in households with bad parenting, abuse, and otherwise terrible conditions, and somehow had the strength and will to move on and above it all. It seems to me that Jessica is completely capable of becoming a mature woman with personal interests, desires, and opinions. Yet, it's laughable to us to picture her this way, because we all know that she has followed the path she is on for far too long to change now.

Can you imagine Jessica really standing up to someone about her views on something? Can you imagine her walking past someone on the street who is homeless, and actually expressing compassion and sympathy for them...I mean genuinely? Absolutely not, because she has and always will simply "play into" ( to use her own words) the stereotype that she has created for herself.

Word.

Tonight was another great Nick & Drew adventure. I love those boys and their DIY work ethic. It cracks me up how they just stand around silently looking at stuff. In this case, their beautiful new grass. Love them. Love.

A wise poster upthread mentioned a Home Depot commercial, and I completely agree. Lowe's should sign them up immediately.

As for those lazy bastards who were hoping they could come back the next day... completely useless and shameless, too.

The best part was when one of "the workers" came back to raid the ice chest when they were leaving. Classic.

Loved Nick and Drew - Vol. 2

Really liked that before beginning the project, Nick gave Drew a choice and didn't just assume he would automatically have his help. "It's up to you, it'll be a lot of work"

I also liked the shots of them looking out at the "laborers" and snarking on their "work". It's like they had no concept of someone being paid to do a job and actually slacking off at said job - not that I know anything about that either ;)

Show of hands as to who missed Jessucka and K. C.? Anyone? Bueller?

I was reflecting on Nick's phone message to Jessica: "I know you're spending money... it's okay... love you, bye." That's so nice. It's disgusting that she's got a good man (IMO) and doesn't appreciate him. Often, she seems to neglect or ignore him altogether... like not taking his call.

They'll probably defy the odds and live a long life together. He'll always be a grounded, personable guy, she'll always be a self-absorbed twit, and I will forever be waiting for Nick to wise the fuck up.

Color me surprised. I figured that nitwit was a sKerry supporter.

I saw the Tahiti trip ep last night. Nick and his brother are so much more entertaining than Jessica and her entourage.

A big word to all the Nick and Drew love. I adore how close they are and how they continued to work on the sod, even after they'd hired people to help. I also love how they introduced themselves to all the workers. I noticed that Nick did that when they were at the Taj Mahal last season, too. He just seems like a very down-to-earth person (save for being married to Bimbo Barbie).

Forget Lowes, MTV needs to give the Lachey brothers a "Trading Spaces" type show. It could be in the vein of "Pimp My Ride," only it would deal with celebs and their home improvement problems. Say, Snoop Dogg has a leaky faucet .... it's the Lachey brothers off to fix it! Or Xtina wants to remodel her bordello, er, bedroom ... enter Nick and Drew!
Alexa
As much as I like the episodes with Nick and Drew (and without Jessica), I am curious as to the motive behind these episodes. What I mean is that it surprises me that they wouldn't want to focus on their Precious Jessica every episode, and they seemed to have dismissed Nick so much in the past it surprises me they are willing to give him his own episodes--two in a row in fact!

For the viewers it is great, and I am certainly not complaining. Just curious, because Jess and Nick have been apart in many of the episodes this season.
Nana's Ghost
I got a laugh out of Nick's pixelated plumber-butt at the very beginning of the show. Thought a lot of the Nick lovers here would like that. The one useless dude smoking a cig in one shot and then puffing on his inhaler in the next one cracked me up, too. Man, those "laborers" were worthless! That lot did look much better in the end, though. I think I love Drew a little.
ld1
Nick looked so happy when the sod was all laid out, I thought he might tear up for a minute- so cute! He should have taken off his shoes to really enjoy it.

Also, re: the Charmed picture- boy looks sooo happy. Perhaps he's banging Alyssa already? I don't advocate cheating, but in his case I think it would be totally justified.

Heh, that's the first thing I thought of too.

Count me in with those who were happy that Jessica and Casey got almost no airtime and yet they STILL managed to piss me off in a one minute cameo! Could Jessica be a snottier bitch about Nick? Her whole "Oh he was mumbling about grass" comment complete with the "I couldn't be bothered to listen" eyeroll really irritated me.
Videophile
I wonder how much Nick ended up spending on his project. I heard the guy from Lowe's tell him that the sod alone would cost $4,925. When you factor in the cost of the tools, the laborers, and the landscape service, it must have added up to a hefty sum. But after seeing the look on his face when it was done you know it was worth every penny to him.

Edited for spelling.
oboe_88
I think I love Drew a little.

*heh* Me too! But unlike Nick I actually like Drew's wife, Leah, too. She seems very laid back like the guys, not a famewhoring princess like Jessica.

Damn, now I'll have to start watching Charmed again...

Its kind of pathetic how happy I am that Nick - someone who I have never met and chances are, never will - landed a role on that show. I hope an acting gig works out for him - its pretty obvious his singing career is over.

At least he's finally doing something on his own. I feel bad for him because the editors kind of portray him as hanging around the house all the time, while Jessica is out slaving away at her job. IMO its better that he's doing things on his own (ie, vacationing with Drew, doing home improvement) than tagging along with Jess and Co. to all of her events. Remember last season? Nick was constantly just sitting around while Jessica got her hair done, wardrobe picked, shot commericals and advertisements, etc. When she sung at the Rose Bowl, he actually handed her the microphone, like he was one of her little minions, and not her husband! No one even announced that he was there! Personally I'd be alot more excited to see Nick in person than Jessica. And I'm not just saying that because he's hot (although that does help!!).

It might just be the editing, because obviously there is a lot more that happens off-camera, but it seems like they are NEVER together anymore. And they definetly don't seem to ever be alone.

Union workers usually are.

Probably because, there's only so much "J & C shop shop shop!" a viewer will hang around for. Or maybe their cameramen got bored with filming Jessucka signing receipts and quit filming.
squirrleyQ
I think we will see a rise in popularity for Nick over the next few months-especially with the Charmed role and a decline in popularity in Jessica. The difference is because Jessica is so out there in terms of marketing, she is in every magazine, on every television show, etc whereas Nick is just quietly going along and working on his career. Also the whole "look I'm dumb but funny" act has gotten old and her singing isn't that great either-used to be but now she wants to screech and breathe and moan too much -and people just get tired of it. When Nick can't be at her beck and call because of his own career she'll get ticked and pout and that will be when the marriage falls apart. At this point her sister is more popular than her and that's just because while she can be grating on the nerves she isn't a butt to everyone and expects everyone to bow down to her.
pmstranski
Man, those "laborers" were worthless!

Actually they are NOT union workers, but day laborers who can't find work elsewhere. They are temporary workers who show up at the temporary agency every morning and hopefully get a day job. They get paid in cash at the end of the day, most don't show up the next morning but in a couple days when the cash is gone. I speak from experience and knowledge, my brother is a "salesman" for a huge temporary day labor firm. Also, my husband is a "union worker" and he works his ass off.

Regarding Jessucka voting for Bush - I think her main motivation for doing so is because he is like from Texas like just like her! Squeal~

As far as last nights episode - love, love, love Nick and Drew - Jessica just needs to go away for a really long time (read: forever).
PippinsApple
It boggles to think how she came up with the notion of which nominee to back.

He's from TEXAS! and Jessica LOVES TEXAS!!

And ditto to the union workers working their asses off. The "laborers" on this episode were temps working through an agency, not union workers.
oboe_88
So thats how she picked her nominee. I'm sure you're right, I never even thought about that.
sistersledge
You know, there are people on this board who are Bush supporters. And intelligent. These backhanded 'comments' are insulting to me. Jessica is an American and has every right to support any candidate she wants. That's the beauty of our country.

And *gasp* I live and work in NYC.
juliaz3
Remember when they were comtemplating the cost and labor of the yard project. Nick said, "Maybe I can just look out of the other side of the house." and Drew said, "How 'bout some green spray paint?"

I missed Nick's pixelated plumber's butt! Thank Jebus I taped this one!

Word on union workers being serious workers. I don't know how unions have gotten such a bad name in this country (well, ok, I do, but it's because of a few bad apples). Thanks to the union movement, we have what's known as a "weekend" and a minimum wage.

Anyway, I love that Nick and Drew put themselves to work and got the job done. Nick could easily have called in the landscapers and gone off to play golf, but the look on his face when it was all done said the one thing that mattered: He felt that he had accomplished something.

When Jessica was talking to Casey about the project, Casey asked, "So does Nick even know how to do that?" and Jessica said something like, "I think Nick just learns as he does it." in her typical condescending tone. I was so annoyed with her! Yes Jessica! He learns by doing, and that's a great way to actually learn a skill! Nick so deserves a wife who will come home and positively gush over the lovely new lawn and how much hard work it must have been, take off her shoes and run across it laughing, and at night, sneak out with him and make love on it under the stars!
NoLife
I was talking about how JESSICA chose to vote. I think if Kerry were from Texas, she would be supporting him. She doesn't know a thing about either candidate, but Bush is from her home state, thus, he is just like her! (How she feels - not anyone else that supports Bush).
