Yes, what was up with them chopping down the legs of the table? That wasn't explained at all. Loved the closeup of the large chip that showed up so well against the black.

Next week, Nick and Papa Perv bond! In fact, Papa Perv seems to play a big role in the next Ashlee too. An entire hour of him? shiver

never happier to be a protestant...
Heh. No joke. Come join the Methodists... where the sinnin's easy

never happier being an athiest!

I know that with different cities, you can get a huge house for like $500,000. But a house in Monterey, Ca for $500,00 is damn near a shack. It sucks.
binkbink
Nick seemed to be drinking in almost every shot last night. Maybe it's just to get some money from Miller, but I'm thinking it's almost time for an intervention of some sort.

Anyone else think at first that it was Jessica who had been producing the turds in the yard?

Hated the hat and the dress didn't fit.

Loved the closeup of the large chip that showed up so well against the black.

A Sharpie will fix that. Decorating with Nick and Drew was (as usual) the best part of the episode.
beezer
Totally agree that the home projects with Nick and Drew rocks - they're the new Martha Stewart!

That episode? Was boring.

Wtf was with the previews and Creepy Pa Simp talking about he hasn't formed a relationship with Nick. First off, get friends your own age Creepy. Second.. er.. off, you never leave them the fuck alone, how can you not have gotten to know him?

Believe me, EVERYONE was disturbed by the sunbathing incident.

I'm not looking to start a whole thing, but I really wasn't at all disturbed by that. I still don't understand why they were disturbed by that - I totally understand people have different ideas about such things and grew up in different ways which is totally cool, it just personally baffles me that they were squealing over it. It's just boobs, I didn't think anything of it until they started with the screeching.
Albanyguy

MTV should jump on this and do a home-improvement show with Nick and Drew after Newlyweds ends. They could fix up celebrity "cribs".
Selma04
LMAO watching CaCee have to sit through Jessica's Escada shopping spree, looking at 30 or so outfits that she will never be able to buy.

I got the impression CaCee is from a fairly wealthy family. She seems to carry some really expensive handbags and wears expensive clothes. Or maybe I'm just projecting, because I can't imagine that anyone from the hard-working middle class would be such a shameless mooch. She just seems like someone whose daddy bought her anything she ever desired and now she's looking for a stupid man of her own to do the same, and mooching on her stupid rich friends in the meantime.

Nick seemed to be drinking in almost every shot last night.

I've been noticing that too. You can't blame the guy, but drowning your sorrows isn't a healthy way to deal with the hell that is your life, dude.

I'm so glad Jessica talked in her widdle baby voice for Nick.

Oh, grrh. At the race track when she won money and she goes into the baby talk, See how smart I am Nick, I picked the winning horse." She's a disgrace to all women.
binkbink

Yeah - but I was expecting that table to end up being 6" high. You know - take a little more off of the front left leg to even it out. Miscut. Take a little more off of the back right leg. Miscut........

I think we have a winner for the most boring episode of Newlyweds ever. I stopped watching midway through and did the dishes. And I HATE to do the dishes. Please tell me this means Jessucka is on minute 14.

I did the exact same thing. I couldn't believe it.
oboe_88
ITA this episode sucked. They are so destined to an Osbourne-like fate.

Their bodyguard looks like Keith from Six Feet Under.

WORD! I totally thought the same thing!
Hailey
Heh. No joke. Come join the Methodists... where the sinnin's easy.

Lutherans too! Mr. Hailey and I have been livin' in sin for 2 years. We're getting happily married four months from today. We weren't sure what we were going to tell the pastor, but when he called to confirm our meeting time, the message machine said, "this is Jake and Kelly's, please leave a message. *beep*" Ha!

Back on topic, I personally can not stand when people are late and don't care. How rude! [/Stephanie Tanner] I'm certainly not Patty Punctual all the time, but I'll put make up on in the car and apologize profusely for making people wait on me. Ashlee seems to have the same problem, so I blame her parents.

Nick's friend's watch and the new "sushi table" were my favorite characters from this episode.
oboe_88
I personally can not stand when people are late and don't care.

This might make me insane, but honestly? I would rather not go at all to something than be late for it. (OK, births, funerals, weddings, etc. are the exceptions. I mean like just a meeting or something.) I know its wrong, but being late just drives me completely out of my mind. And when someone is late to meet me, well, that is the height of rudeness in my opinion. If you, ya know, have a good excuse like saving a baby from a burning building or giving a dying man CPR, OK, but to just be late and not even apologize? That should be punishable by law, IMO.

(Sorry if I come off a little harsh, but this is numero uno on my list of pet peeves. I am almost religious about being on time.)
Ananayel
You're not insane, oboe_88. I often say I would rather be 30 minutes early for something than 30 seconds late. Even movies, where I know there will be 20 minutes of previews. I just can't stand that rushrushrush feeling, though I know there are people that thrive on it.

I missed the first couple of minutes, and tuned in for the shopping. I didn't know Simp was buying outifts for going to the race, I just thought she was shopping again. AGAIN! I almost yelled "Don't you have enough clothes, you stupid twit!" at my tv screen.

I would be surprised if Nick developed any type of crush on Casey (I simply refuse to type it the other asinine way.) I would not, however, be surprised if she had a thing for him, and I would also not be surprised that neither one has crushes or behaves inappropriately, but the show is edited to make it seem as though they do. And that will be exceedingly creepy, since PaSimp is a producer. And it could come around and bite them in the ass when it airs.
Hailey
I would not, however, be surprised if [Casey] had a thing for him

My favorite part was the "pretend punchings" Casey gave Nick at the restaurant when he was scaring them. Ahhhh to flirt like a 5th grader again....
ParadiseHo

Maybe Pa wants to edit it that way so he can have Jess to himself or to stir up publicity. Can you imagine the INtouch and Us weekly covers?!
ajra
I look at as Ma & Pa gearing up for the next big push: How Jessica survives divorce. They can squeeze an album, a book, a whole host of tv appearances, and possibly a talk show out of it. They need to set some things up now so that she can point to them later as 'evidence'.
snarkastic21
I look at as Ma & Pa gearing up for the next big push

I'm actually surprised that Ma and Pa don't put themselves and their own shots in the opening credits for their daughters' shows. They get more screentime during MTV's Simpson hour than their daughters do as individuals. I am really getting tired of seeing them, Pa especially. Look at next week's previews. PaSimp makes the episode about himself. Oh, and Nick. Pa, maybe you and Nick never formed a relationship because he's smart and doesn't want one with you? Ever think of that? "Out of sight, out of mind" never sounded so good.
oboe_88
I often say I would rather be 30 minutes early for something than 30 seconds late.

We must be of the same mind Ananayel, I say the EXACT same thing!! I always have a book or something in my purse because I am almost always at least 15 minutes early to everything. Anything less than 5 minutes ahead of schedule and I feel like I'm late.

Anyway, Pa and Ma Simp are bigger camerawhores than their daughters. I can live with Tina, but PaSimp is so clearly exploiting his daughters for his own personal gain that it makes me sick.
binkbink
Pa, maybe you and Nick never formed a relationship because he's smart and doesn't want one with you?

And how about Jessica wanting to form a relationship with Nick's mom? Other than Jessica trying to pawn off used sofas as a wedding gift to Nick's mom, she is rarely seen or mentioned.

I've always believed that habitual lateness is a control thing.
Ivana Tinkle
Does anyone know what Tony and Lisa (their friends) do? That was a damn nice house they had. I was confused though, and maybe someone who actually listened can clear this up. In the last episode, I could've sworn Nick said that the guy was a "fraternity brother" of his. Yet, in this episode Jessica said, "We are going to visit my friends." Maybe I heard wrong.

Tony had me cracking up in this episode. I loved how pissed he seemed to be getting at Jessica for taking so long. (Let's be honest...we know she was the one who was still in the "sweatpants"). Not to mention his asking how long they took to get ready because he wanted to leave early. No such luck. Poor guy. Hopefully he took Nick aside and tried to talk some sense into him.

I LOVED CaCee (dumb bitch) looking pissed while Jessica tried on her outfits. She didn't go to Kentucky with them right? That's why she was mad, she couldn't get another freebie. I'm guessing she's not from a poor family, probably upper middle class, but I think the reason she gets so many expensive bags is stupid Jessica pays her more than she deserves for being such a good "assistant".

And I'm sorry, maybe I'm just too jealous, but if someone who's realitively cute was all over my husband, punching him and other childish flirtations, that bitch would be out the door with a big boot stuck up her ass. Jessica needs to get a clue. I just think a real friend knows what lines shouldn't be crossed and should know better than to flirt with your husband in front of you.
oboe_88
And how about Jessica wanting to form a relationship with Nick's mom?

Maybe spend more than two days a year with them? And don't act like you're totally bored when you're there? Or maybe take them on vacation with you instead of your camera obsessed parents who are at the house every damn day?

Just some suggestions.
Alexa

I think she was there...you didn't see her until they were at the Derby, but she was the one posing in the pictures with Jess. That's what confuses me about the show...they make it look like Nick and Jess are going somewhere alone, and then all of the sudden there are all of these people with them. In this case, once they got to the Derby, Casey was there as well as Drew.

That is why it always looks so weird when her parents magically show up as well. I mean, if all of these people are going to be there, just tell us that. Don't act like you are going alone, when you clearly are not...
Nana's Ghost
Casey didn't go to Kentucky. That was Leah posing in the pictures with Jessica.
chelseabelle
I thought it was weird that when they visted Tony & wife there was not one speck of evidence that they have a child. No Mason, no baby toys, no highchair. Maybe it was a stunt baby for the AZ episode.

I'm thinking Tony must be slightly older than Nick. He may be established enough in his career that he can afford a McMansion in Kentucky. After all, it's Kentucky, not Manhattan - real estate's got to be near the national average. (No offense to Kentuckyans here).
oboe_88
Don't act like you are going alone, when you clearly are not...

I know. That annoys me too. I think this is probably a standard celebrity thing, but when Nick and Jess say "Oh, we wanted some time to ourselves, to get away.." they are invariably joined by family, friends, assistants, bandmates, etc. It would drive me absolutely nuts. Alone time means you are alone.
Alexa
Casey didn't go to Kentucky. That was Leah posing in the pictures with Jessica.

Thanks for the clarification...with the hat and makeup it was hard to tell who it was so I assumed it was Casey. But it makes sense that it was Leah since Drew was there.

The more I see of Casey's involvement with Nick and Jessica, the more it occurs to me that Jessica was nowhere near ready to get married when she did. She seems to treat her marriage like an eighth grade romance with the 24/7 giggling with her friend and gossiping about Nick, seemingly always joining together with Casey to gang up on him, etc. Who acts like that when they're married??

And this whole crush rumor? Is assinine. IF that actually did happen, wouldn't that cause, oh I don't know, marital problems? There is such a thing as boundaries, not that I'd expect Jessica or Casey to realize it, but Nick at least should know better.
oboe_88
And frankly, Nick does not strike me as interested in the least in Casey. He can barely stand Jessica, and he is already annoyed as hell at Casey's constant presence in their lives. I cannot imagine under what circumstances he would develop a crush on Casey.
supercb611
Did anyone understand what happened at the Derby? Did Nick place two bets one on Smarty Jones for Jessica, and one for himself on the field? The previews made it seem like they lost a lot of money, but all we saw was Nick pulling for Smarty Jones, which would mean he lost his bet.

I think Nick bet most of their money on the field as an exacta, so basically he would win no matter who won, but the bigger the underdog, the higher the payout. He also bet a litte on Smarty Jones for Jessica, so they won on that, but not a whole lot since Smarty was the favorite and the odds weren't as high. (Smarty did win the Derby and the Preakness, but lost the Belmont.) And there's horse racing 101 for ya.
TGC-64
I cannot imagine under what circumstances he would develop a crush on Casey.

Well, not unless you count 'crush under the wheels of his car'; but that's just in his fantasy-life. ITRW, Nick would just grit his teeth, and yell " Casey, move".
Millie
I also thought there was potential comic gold if the poo in the yard had turned out to be from a papparazzi. But alas.

I thought for sure that Cacee had been sneaking out at night to mark her territory.

Big fat WORD to everyone who pointed out the relative boringness of this ep and the magic that is the brother's Lachey. They are the new Lucy and Ethel, IMHO.
supercb611
In the last episode, I could've sworn Nick said that the guy was a "fraternity brother" of his. Yet, in this episode Jessica said, "We are going to visit my friends." Maybe I heard wrong.

I think you're right, Tony was/is a frat buddy of Nick's.

Was it just me, or was it totally obvious last night that Lisa can't stand Jessica? She kept rolling her eyes and making snarky comments, like when the kids were waiting outside the house hoping to catch a glimpse of Jess.

Edited because me like spelling.
Helter Skelter
And how about Jessica wanting to form a relationship with Nick's mom? Other than Jessica trying to pawn off used sofas as a wedding gift to Nick's mom, she is rarely seen or mentioned.

Maybe his family was asked but declined because they aren't rabid famewhores. That's what I've always assumed, anyway. Nick and Drew seem like down-to-earth guys, and I'd imagine that their family is much the same. I noticed during the Christmas episode last year (in which they spent time at both family homes), the Lachey segment was maybe three minutes and consisted of Nick's grandma and her gross dog, while the Simpson segment was the larger portion on the episode. I don't think the Lacheys want anything to do with Creepy or his little show--they're too busy working regular jobs and behaving like normal people.

(Author's Note: It may seem as if I'm spending an inordinate amount of time defending the Lacheys; no, I do not know them personally.)
Selma04
like when the kids were waiting outside the house hoping to catch a glimpse of Jess.

Those kids were my favorite part of the show (and by favorite part, I mean the only part that didn't lull me into a coma). Jessica's fanbase, not a one over the age of eight.
Hailey
The more I see of Casey's involvement with Nick and Jessica, the more it occurs to me that Jessica was nowhere near ready to get married when she did.

I totally agree with this. Maybe it's just par for the course for "celebrities" to constantly be surrounded by an "entourage", but it seems like she goes out of her way to involve other people in her marriage. i.e. vacationing with her parents, having her parents work for her, inviting a friend to live with you for an indefinite amount of time, having cameras follow you around for 2 years, etc. I personally, would be fighting for some alone time with my new husband if I had her travel schedule. Although, that would require her to have an intelligent conversation and do something other than smash her boobs in his face, so whatever.
BlueSilver
No Mason, no baby toys, no highchair. Maybe it was a stunt baby for the AZ episode

I was thinking the same thing, but then in the scene where the girls come downstairs for the Derby, you can see an Exersaucer and a few toys at the bottom of the stairs.

Other than their anniversary trip to NYC last year, was the Kentucky trip the first trip they've taken without CaCee or Ma & Pa?
oboe_88
Its the first trip I recall where we haven't seen either Jessica's family or Cacee (excluding the trip they made to see Nick's family).
faninohio
Did it mention where in KY that his friend's live? I missed most of the show last night, but saw bits and pieces of the Derby segment and wondered where these friends lived. And yeah, 500K will buy you a nice house in this neck of the woods. They are young though, I would love to know what he does for a living. And I cracked up at all the kids, but I thought it was the friends wife that said "oh, this happens to us all the time", being funny.

I know this might be stupid to ask, but, Nick went to college? When? Is that the reason for all the University of Cincinnati shit he wears? I went there too but you don't see me wearing all the school gear!
singinkid
I know this is a little late, but I was watching last week's epi before this week's last night and I noticed something. When they were sitting in the hotel room watching tv with Mason, President Bush was on and Jessica said something stupid like "look it's our leader" and I almost spit-taked my diet coke I was laughing so hard. What I found funnier is that Mason started crying when he she said it... Smart kid.
KateQD
Other than their anniversary trip to NYC last year

IIRC they were there too (her parents not KC). When they're at Tavern on the Green you can see Ma and Pa at a table near them. And someone also spotted her dad in the hotel while they were checking in.

I thought that noise in the back yard was a Cyote, but it didnt even cross their lips that that would have been a possiblity, which I thought was strange.

Count me in as one of the people who thinks KC in totally in love with Nick. She reminds me of my ex-best friend who constantly flirted with MrD and even once flipped up her skirt at him. If Jess realizes what's going on the friendship is doomed soon, but she may not even be able to wrap her head around the idea that her friend is doing this to her, thus it will continue and get far worse until she realizes what has been happening. Trust me, as a person who lived a wierd friendship like this (except for the money and the living together) it will all hit Jess like a ton of bricks sooner or later. Its just the 'when' factor that I would like to know. However, MrD had no idea what was going on (he's a bit naive when it comes to girls) I do think Nick knows she's flirting and in return is flirting back. Possibly he is so stagnant in his relationship with Jess that the challenge of how far can it go is interesting to him.
snarkastic21
(Smarty did win the Derby and the Preakness, but lost the Belmont.) And there's horse racing 101 for ya.

Don't remind me. Us Philadelphians are still licking our wounds.

And someone also spotted her dad in the hotel while they were checking in.

He probably booked the room nextdoor to the "newlyweds" to ensure there was no sex or shenanigans going on and Jessica's virginity was being preserved. Either that or he drilled a hole in the wall to be able to observe everything. He's a sick person. I honestly cannot understand why he has to go EVERYwhere with these two. Step OFF, Creepy Pa Simp. Even Michael Jackson is watching you and telling you to get yourself into a program.
Hollers
So Tony and Lisa are now my favorite characters on this show - Mr. Hollers has friends just like them (And I think, when Jess introduced the latest episode, she said they were visiting "Our friends", although the friendliness towards Jess seems kind of forced. SHE probably thinks they're all friends because they're Nick's friends, and they are nice to her....)

Nick went to school in Miami, right? Something like that. So, faninohio, I think the Cincinatti stuff is because that's where he's from - it may be a family thing. In my house, it's the Chicago Bears and Notre Dame, even though no one in the family has ever actually attended Notre Dame.

I also think we saw very little baby stuff because they cleaned the house, knowing that they were having guests and a camera crew over. I would.

Re: Nick's family's involvment on the show - is it possible that, being the producer, CreepyPa edits the Lacheys out of a lot of the show? Maybe there's more interaction with Nick's parents than we see. Just like Drew and Leah - they were pretty well received in the first season, so now we don't see much of them. I don't think that's a coincidence.

Is it me, or is anyone else sort of pissed that they're saying this is the last season? They were both in career purgatory before the show, and now they're getting crazy publicity and outrageous job offers (at least, Jess is) BECAUSE of the show. So, now that I'm hooked on the show, they're going to just stop doing it? No fair! You don't get to take our money and run - you come back here and "entertain" me until I'm done with you! (Plus, I don't want to miss the downward spiral that most of us are expecting.)

Oh, and as far as Jess's cross over to Ashlee's show, has anyone noticed how PISSED Jessica looks on her sister's show compared to hers? She's so quiet and mopey looking. What's that about?

ETA:
Nick went to school in Miami, right? Something like that

Miami University is in Ohio.

Oh.

Damn.

lol - well, I ~knew~ I heard him say Miami! I'm pretty sure I knew Miami U. was the one in Ohio - I just didn't put them together... Thanks for the correction, binkbink
Ananayel
I do think Nick knows she's flirting and in return is flirting back. Possibly he is so stagnant in his relationship with Jess that the challenge of how far can it go is interesting to him.

I hope he's not doing this, because it will degenerate into an epic shitstorm, and he will be partly responsible. I agree Jess is clueless, and I think Casey will push it as far as she can without endangering her meal ticket, but if Casey is determined, nothing short of Nick not speaking to her at all will work. And that would alert Jessica to the problem, and he may be trying to spare her that/spare himself the nightmare of dealing with it.

And some guys just don't get it. They are either like Mr. Kate QD, aren't paying very good attention, or don't believe that a woman would come on to them like that, since after all, he is married/engaged/taken. It's usually the ones who have been properly brought up that are like this. I once worked with the single most gorgeous man I have ever met, who turned out to also be one of the nicest and most decent men around (instead of the raving asshole whose looks got him everything he wanted, like I was expecting.) It was so amusing to watch women do double-takes, devolve into simpering giggle-bunnies, find excuses to hang around his desk, pretty much do everything but disrobe and drag him into the utility room. But he had no clue. He had a long-term GF, and none of it got through the shield. Sometimes, after a particularly obvious one, he would look at me and say, with great perplexity "Is she all right?" I usually didn't have an answer. Not one he would have believed, anyway.

Couple things here. One, Casey strikes me as the kind of gal who'd sell her best friend in a heartbeat for a chance to be with Nick seriously. She seems a very "all's fair in love and war".

Two, she could be delusional to think that she can step into the place and be "Mrs. Nick Lachey" and just replace Jessica.

She may not realize that Nick is just biding his time and when/if he gets remarried, it will be to a normal gal and they will live a simple, non-camera, no-LV bag lifestyle. Casey would be better off hitting on PapaSimpson in my opionion.

Nick... what can he say? Can you imagine him having a conversation with Jessica, that goes like "uh, hun, I think your best friend from childhood is giving me the googlie eyes and wants to get busy with me. It's probably best you kick her out". I'm sure Jess would negate any of Nick's intuitions and then say he's being cheap and mean.

If it weren't for the fact that they are "celebrities", doesn't something strike you as very Jerry Springer about this set up? (I can just see Nick saying "well, you were never around, and it just happened?!) And Jessica bitch-slapping Casey as she flaunts around.
maggiegault
Notre Dame, even though no one in the family has ever actually attended Notre Dame.

Boo hiss! Go Purdue! Go Purdue! All hail to the Old Gold and Black!

Notre Dame fans are an awesome sight, though. My mother, despite having two Boilermaker daughters, feels as though it's her Catholic duty to root for Notre Dame!

As for Nick's fascination for University of Cincinnati apparel, my Dad was the same way. On the weekends, the man was never without some sort of BearCat-related piece of clothing on his body. He had this godawful shirt that he wore constantly, so much so that it was more hole than cloth at one point. We almost placed it in his coffin before he was buried, but it was such an important Dad artifact, we kept it.

Mr. Maggie and my brother-in-law are Boilermakers, too...and BIL in particular seems to adorn his body with as much Purdue paraphenalia as humanly possible.
faninohio
Crikey, Nick went to Miami University? Damn. I went there for three semsters myself, (way back when Nick was probably a toddler), before transferring to UC. Huh, learn something new everyday. I guess my first assumption about all the UC stuff was right, just wearing the hometown school gear.

Oh, and I about barfed when I heard/read somewhere that Nick gave Jess that damn dog she wanted for her birthday. I feel so sorry for that poor thing.

I usually lurk here but I found this article I thought I'd share
___________________________________________

Nick & Jessica Go Back to the Beginning

Reality TV couple Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson have found the perfect way
of ending their Newlyweds: Nick And Jessica show - returning to the place
where it all started.

The couple revisited the Riverbend Church in Austin, Texas, where they wed
two years ago to renew their vows - and they took a camera crew with them.

Family and friends were banned from the secret ceremony and only one staff
member of the church was allowed to stay for the quick service.

Simpson's father, Joe, says, "They just wanted to go back to where it all
began."

The couple have announced they're keen to end the show which has made them
stars on TV because they no longer feel like newlyweds.

So much for a Hawaii renewal like Nick wanted.

Oh TOTALLY! I can also see her rubbing Jessica's nose in it until the day she dies. She'd be proud to bust up a marriage if it meant taking something from someone she's so obviously jealous of. And the husband is the best prize of all.

Boo hiss! Go Purdue! Go Purdue! All hail to the Old Gold and Black!

Notre Dame fans are an awesome sight, though. My mother, despite having two Boilermaker daughters, feels as though it's her Catholic duty to root for Notre Dame!

lol (again - someone's going to hear me and think I'm crazy!) - an old roommate of mine went to Purdue, and they seem to be equally fanatical about their team. He HATED my friend, who went to Indiana U. They would argue all the time.
And, yeah, the catholic thing may have something to do with it (Attending a ND game is like going to church, right?) 'Course, being from Chicago, I'm a heathen for not remembering to mention the Cubs - the ultimate in crazy fans. Now THEY are a fun crowd!

topic? You guys are creeping me out with the Caaycee/Nick stuff. I hope, hope, hope he doesn't go for her - it would seriously hurt my crush on him. I'm shocked that Jess doesn't see any of what y'all are seeing, though, even if it's not true. I trust Mr Hollers beyond reason, but I still get my hackles up when a girl is overly friendly with him...

MelissaEhle, that article squicks me out. So, they brought the MTV CAMERA CREW, but not their family? WTF? Somehow, I'll bet that Creepy Pa and Ma managed to get in anyway...
Hailey
The couple revisited the Riverbend Church in Austin, Texas, where they wed two years ago to renew their vows - and they took a camera crew with them.

oh for fucks sake!
So they are going to renew their vows in Texas AND in Hawaii? Getting married 3 times in 2 years seems a bit forced to me. Whatever you think you're going to recapture by getting married again just isn't there. You two ain't gonna make it. Cut your losses and split already!
