Enough with the joint George/Carolyn thread. It's not like they're not both cooler than Ereka, and she has a thread.

Yay to a separate thread for George and Carolyn. They deserve 'em. Maybe we can throw the Ereka and Katrina threads together to, uh, demote them.
I haven't seen this quote from him yet posted on any boards. From where Omarosa got fired:
George: "How do you think she did?"
Heidi: "OK"
George: "OK Good or OK Bad?"
Heidi: "OK Bad."
George: "OK."
Purposeful pseduo-logic deadpan, or is this guy just unconsciously way-cool? A big laugh either way.

I like George. He was tough with Troy because he knew Troy could handle it. I think they all knew there was no way they were firing Troy or Kwame, but they wanted to see how Troy would take the heat. George has been the toughest on the men. He grilled Bill in a similar fashion a few weeks ago.
I liked the sidebar George commentary. More of that please.

I agree. Plus, I think he was being tougher on Troy because he was the PM, and wanted to see if he would take responsibility for the loss. George seems to look for the "straight shooter" responses from everyone, which I totally admire. I hate it when business people dance around the topic or try to defer blame. Even if I'M the problem, I'd rather have someone I'm working with tell me than dance around it.

Agreed, I loved the sidebar commentary by George. The show needs more of that - not just showing the competitions and the boardrooms but also the thought processes behind George, Carolyn and DT.
I give George yoooge credit for having the life and work he wants to do at 76. One article I read said that he wanted to retire 8 years ago but DT convinced him to stay.

He's probably got the sweetest deal in history . . . dollars to donuts
The Apprentice is basically his only job at this point. The rest of the time he rides around on a phat yacht, golfs for free anywhere he wants, and lives like a king on the UES.
I wouldn't quit either :).
Edited to say that
this article pretty much confirms George's awesome life.

I really love George. Boy, I'd hate to be cross-examined by him; he has possibly even better bullshit filters than The Donald. And an impressive ability to skewer someone with a well-placed question.
Plus I bet he's a simply awesome grandpa!

George reminds me very much of my soon to be grandfather-in-law. Impatient with excuses, appreciative of efficiency and professionalism, and ultimately color and gender blind (though he will always refer to women younger than he as "girls.") If you are smart and sharp and professional, he won't care if you are male of female--and George strikes me as like that as well.
I love it when George goes "bup bup bup bup" over someone who is trying to waffle on an answer.

So amazing!
I was just doing some back reading of the forums and found out that George's last name is Ross. George Ross! That's my father-in-law's name.
I knew there was a reason my husband and I like George so much.

George has been in absentia on two occasions on "very important business trips."
It always cracked me up whenever The Hair had to inform the teams of another of George's absences. "Very important business trips." I half expected him to follow it up with the fact that although George wouldn't be there to tuck them in each night, he'd be sure to call them.
Although that does bring up a question I've been pondering: whether George might not in many ways remind DT of his sainted father. In the boardroom, you'd swear there really wasn't more there than a working relationship. But there's something in the way DT refers to George when he isn't around that makes me think there might be a fatherly aspect to the George/Hair connection.

Agreed,
ThatGrrl. I think if you've had a strong parental figure, you try to keep that figure around, even after your parent has passed away. If you don't do it in your personal life, you'll do it in your business life. I think that's what DT has done: chosen a no-BS, strong personality as his executive counsel.
Everything I've read about DT shows that he grew up with at least one such strong personality, possibly two. That's what makes him drive himself so hard. It would be natural, then, to keep someone like George (and possibly Carolyn) around that works as hard as he does.

George was absolutely fantastic on the Tonight Show-- snarky and lovable. It's clear that he's loving the show and the attention. He commented that in the beginning, if he'd had his way, they'd have fired them all after the first task.

Best George lines from his appearance on Leno:
"After the first task I wanted to fire all of them and bring in a whole new crew!"
"The winner of The Apprentice is the person who sold (David Arquette) this suit!"
I love George. He is the ultimate snarky grandpa. Miss Alli, you hit it on the head with that description. He's simply the best.

What I wish TPTB would do more often would be on-the-fly interviews with George (and Carolyn) DURING the tasks. When they asked George about his opinion with Kwame's move in the Art Eppie and he was calmly smoking his cigarette and talking about the risks of business.. he just seemed so worldly, so informed and experienced in the business world. I wish we could see more of the Viceroys and their opinions/slants on various moves.
I know Donald asks them things in the boardroom, but they're so freaking SMART, and LOGICAL. Sheesh. Smart, logical people on a reality show. I love this show! It makes me feel smart (sor of like The Amazing Race!-ish, but.. I think better) and it plays down the drama and up the strategy.

After watching George on Leno last night, I want him to be MY Grandpa!!! He's a hoot! He really carried the crowd with his snarky comments. :) He had me in stitches and I was really thinking that they should show more of this side of him on the show. I hope he's not gone this week on another business trip.
My favorite George moment last night was also the David Arquette comment - hee!

Where'd you go, George? Why weren't you there to save Troy?!
What I love about George is that he's not afraid to say it like it is. He hates something, he'll say it. If he's impressed, he's not gonna be a hardass and beat around the bush --no, no. He'll say he's impressed. Just like he does when he mentions Troy. Puts on his big ol' grin and gives the man a compliment.
We missed you, George!

George deserves a shout out for his "that really sucks" line on SNL
This guy is so trusted by The Donald that Donald doesn't even read the contracts or legal documents. He just signs them.
But he has a great comedic snarkiness about him...I want to see more of George!

Access Hollywood had a spotlight on George and Carolyn.
The host got to hang out with both of them. He went with George to a Knicks game, courtside seats of course. The host said that there were others coming along, George asked "who?", the host replied "Omarosa", George quipped "leave me off at the next street"
The host was given $10 by Carolyn to buy George a "fuzzy finger", and have George wave it at the game, he did.
The funniest thing about the George bit was the host stopping by a strip club before the game and taking George in.

1. I hope so too. Casino Mark had more of a role this week really. One or two lines vs. being shown up as a slight down-smackee. Can't say I missed Bernie this week tho'.
2. Not if the Apprentice DVD hits the store shelves quickly. He has to be in the extras they slap in those discs.

George is there because he wants to be, les. He doesn't have to be there at all. He's more than old enough to be retired. He has plenty of money and then some. He is doing TD a favor by still doing contracts and by doing this show. As George has put it in several interviews, if it's not fun he doesn't do it. TD was guilty of being just as rude as he said several of the apprentices have been in the past. Also, George is older than TD. That alone merits more respect than TD showed George.

Apr 10, 2004 @ 11:07 pm
About the interuption of DT... Carolyn often inerupts and/or interprets DT's questions. For example, the question posed to Kwame about leading. Seemed wrong for DT to treat George that way. Very harsh and very humiliating. I also think both Carolyn and George were annoyed at being usurped in evaluations by the four other executives. They seemed to have PO'd looks on thier faces. Anybody agree?
dannymoon
Apr 11, 2004 @ 11:09 am
I noticed that too, especially the look on Carolyn's face when the four associates were finished and walked out. Of course, that look could have been given at a different moment, and just shown then.
Color me surprised to see TD snap at George, and yes Carolyn interrupts too, but I think TD just really wanted to get out his point. It probably happens often.

Apr 11, 2004 @ 2:40 pm
Both Carolyn and George have interjected questions in the past and in my opinion their questions have added greatly to the boardroom in that they have first hand knowledge of events and can cut through the candidate's bullshit responses. This was the first time that DT snapped at either of them. Seemed wrong to me. That along with the interviewing viceroys, seemed to demean George, as well as Carolyn.
bobosh
Apr 11, 2004 @ 3:22 pm
I don't think Trump's decision to act based on the viceroy's feedback necesarily demeaned Carolyn and George. I wouldn't be surprised if they agreed with those decisions too. The fact of the matter is, the apprentice is not just going to work with Carolyn and George if at all. It makes sense for DT to factor in the opinions of other valued members of Trumpland.

Too bad Amy didn't take the cue from DT's response to George when Bill interrupted her with his "I respectfully disagree..." defence. George looked a little sheepish after DT snapped at him, but I also thought I detected a bit of grin. I couldn't help wondering if the sub-text of the DT-George exchange was a lesson in boardroom "top doggery". If you're interrupted - interrupt back and take control. As it turned out, Bill hijacked Amy's chance to defend her statement and made himself look better in the process. heh, I still hate him.
