I totally agree - I hope Ivanka comes back. Carolyn proved that she has NO class, with that stupid comment about not even knowing who Pepi was. I got so used to Ivanka that Carolyn's lack of class really pissed me off.

I'd always wondered why she looks so dour in the boardroom, but after the scary faces she made tonight when she was laughing, I can understand why she keeps a lid on the smile. Brrr...
I guess something hilarious must have been going on because she wasn't just laughing about Pepi, she was laughing during the entire boardroom. I'm probably not being totally fair to her.
She needs to eat more, she's looking too skinny now.

I thought she glanced at Pepi early on and then chuckled to herself and that it just grew until it bubbled over after everyone had left. Ugh...this is why I hate this show. I can't watch it anymore. I may catch the final epi, simply because I've watched every other episode, but this grotesque parade of truly awful and unprofessional behavior turns my stomach.

I always though she was overrated relative to George (and even Bill) and that she has been phoning in her performances for the last few seasons. The worst moment for me was the time in S1 when Versacorp won the flea market task by a huge amount. Instead of taking Protege to task for an absolute disaster (far worse that the performance which prompted a quadruple firing in season four) or congratualting Nick's team she starts of on a silly little rant about the fact that they didn't offer much plus size clothing. Despite being totally misdirected and irrelevant it also made her a little bit silly for demonstrating that while she may be able to supervise the running of a (small) golf course she didn't know anything about retail or the type of audience that they were selling to.

To be fair, Carolyn wasn't there that week when Pepi got fired, Ivanka was. Also he was gone just after the second week, so he probably wouldn't have left a strong impression on her. I just thought it was funny when she started laughing about it with Trump.

I don't have a problem with her getting the giggles. I might have too. The lack of class comes from the editors for leaving that in.

Jun 6, 2006 @ 12:09 am
If she hadn't been laughing at him in the first place, the editors couldn't have shown the scene.
I wonder if she got a lot of negative reactions for that little scene, because she was very low-key at this finale.
I wish she could have just said, "You both suck". As much as I complain about her, I would have loved her for that.
Something I hope Carolyn remembers at some point...Chris from last season was fired in episode 2, just like Pepi this season. She didn't seem upset when Rebecca chose him.

Why does it matter when someone was fired as to how good they are? Candidates get eliminated when they supposedly screw up. That screw up can occur in week one or further down the road. When someone gets eliminated, unlike in Survivor, really does not indicate someone's value or rank. Eliminations are not based on someone's cumulative worth. Just a silly criteria for Carolyn to use as to whether someone is competent. Brent lasted longer then Pepi, should Lee have chosen Brent? No, of course not, so Carolyn laughing at picking Pepi is both offensive and stupid on her part. The only thing that can be said is that Pepi lacks familiarity with the process since he has been gone so long, but that is minor, so really nothing to laugh at him about.
Trump, at the finale, saying about Pepi, that he is "getting a bad rap". Trump, Pepi was not "getting a bad rap", you and Carolyn are making fun of him. How is that getting a bad rap like the rest of us are disparaging him? The only one to say anything besides Trump and Carolyn was Sean and the candidates say a lot of negative things about each other, so that put down is minor.
Carolyn is always the expert on how to act after the fact. She decides, as both judge and juror, what is important and what should have been done. She couldn't even articulate a preference after explicitly saying she was going to do just that. Ivanka needs to be the regular viceroy. Enough with Carolyn with her bitchy put downs only to those candidates that she does not admire.

I agree that Carolyn's reaction to Pepi was awkward, to say the least.
I took it as her ridiculing Lee for his choices, not putting Pepi down. The awkward part of it is in that Pepi got hit by association he became sort of a collateral victim. Coming from lady Carolyn, who is always so proper, was somewhat surprising and disappointing on one hand. On the other hand, Carolyn is human she made a mistake. Hope Pepi got over it.

What bugs me about Carolyn is that while I don't doubt her job is a tough one, she runs a golf course. That requires some skill sets, but they aren't necessarily the same skill sets that would win the variety of tasks that Trump/MB cooks up. In other words, if Carolyn was a candidate, she might make the same dumb mistakes the candidates make. And this is something Trump, George, Bill, and Ivanka all seem to understand to a degree. But Carolyn seems to think these candidates are sacks of shit for ... making a mistake. She adopts a really disrespectful tone with them that I find very off-putting, and quite frankly comes across as camera-mugging. And the strange thing is, in the interviews of her I've seen outside the show, she's very low-key and respectful of the candidates (except for Omarosa). So on the one hand, she does seem to understand that making a mistake does not equal stupid, but why can't she behave like that on the show?

You know, I wish I could feel sorry for Carolyn, but I can't. Unlike George, she seemed to take active glee in firing candidates. In the past season especially, she's harped on any little weakness in a candidate with that icy smirk. Like she's never done dumb shit on the job in her life. So Carolyn, you're fired. Doesn't feel so good anymore, does it? Payback's a bitch, that's all I can say.

This makes me sad. I know Carolyn's demeanor had changed somewhat over the seasons, but I still have a lot of fondness for the way she conducted herself in the early days of the show. I still strongly identify her with the time when I adored this show, and I think she was part of the reason the show was a success in the first place.
Maybe Trump was justified, I don't know. But I have a sneaking suspicion it was as much to do with wanting Ivanka to replace Carolyn on the show on a full-time basis. Ivanka does a great job, so I don't blame her. But with Carolyn gone, that's just one less reason for me to watch the show.

OK, I can see Trump firing Carolyn from his show, since that wasn't her primary job with the Trump organization. But to just fire her outright? I don't know.
Good for her, though, getting fired rather than quitting. I'm sure ol' DT is going to have to pony up some big bones in severance.
And I've always thought that she was too good to be in his dog and pony show. Plus, he's such a disgusting letch, I don't know how she put up with him for as long as she did.

Carolyn was great. It's too bad Trump dumped her. However, I think he might have been planning on it, since he started phasing in Ivanka last season.
By the way, it was probably just a coincidence, but did anyone else notice that Ivanka was in EVERY Synergy boardroom and Carolyn was in EVERY Gold Rush boardroom? George and Bill got to see a little of both teams, and Don Jr. only appeared twice, but it seems funny that the two ladies only got to see one team in the boardroom the entire time.

Really not a surprise. The show had declining ratings and was already retooling with the LA gimmick. George was trying to retire, and without him Carolyn's position was much weaker. Plus, Trump was now ready to fully bring in Don Jr and Ivanka, which was the plan all along. Finally, there was only room for one inflated-ego superstar at Trump, and that's Trump.
Carolyn had a good run.

Didn't Carolyn take a failing Trump property, the golf course, and turn it into a money winner? That's something all the king's horses and all the king's men haven't been able to do with the casinos.
Since Trump treats his wives in an equally dismissive fashion, I'm not surprised he'd be so callous with a female employee. Shows a complete lack of class and loyalty on his part, in my opinion. "Spend some time with your family and then find a new job." Asshat.

He seemed to admire the work she did for him. He spokely highly of her many times. This leads me to believe that she must have screwed up big time. I believe the article - she was fired because she became a prima donna.

Heh. I agree 100% with the first part, although I admit it's part of what makes watching him on TV kind of fun. However, I'm not sure I agree that he would have fired Carolyn just to make room for his Ivanka. He could have just taken Carolyn off of the TV show without firing her. She might have quit, but then this would be an entirely different discussion.
Based on what the full NY Post article said, which is posted in and I talked about in the media thread, I think he probably fired Carolyn because he's the same crazy old bastard in real life as he is on TV.

Looks to me like Trump is pissy because Carolyn's popularity is still high while his declines. I vowed after last season I wouldn't watch this crummy show again, what with the inept candidates, dull tasks and Trump's boring kids filling in. It's become nothing more than a 60-minute commmercial for whatever movie, soft drink, toothpaste, dog food or other crappy product that ponied up some money to be featured. With Carolyn now gone, it makes my decision that much easier. Asshole Trump just made a huuuu-uuuge mistake. Trump firing someone for being too self-promoting . . . next he'll start firing people for being pompous, tasteless, sexist blowhards with bad hair.
Anyone have any idea how much she made at the Trump organization? Hmmm . . . toss off a few platitudes at the Chamber of Commerce luncheon for $25,000, or order more golf balls with Trumpy's picture on them and sit by the phone in case he calls . . . she'd better hurry up and cash in as much as she can on the famewhore circuit before her 15 minutes runs out.
She may have become a prima donna, but the capper had to be that she wasn't there for his phone call. There's only room for so much ego in the Trump organization, and 99.9 percent of it is under that dead weasel on the boss's head.

Firing for self-promotion at his expense, all the while using said firing to promote at her expense. What a tool. Carolyn had lost her edge. Her perception of what was real and what was Trump reality the last couple of seasons seemed a bit blurred too much for my liking, but I still prefer her to the two bland Trumpettes who, while no where near as irritating and asinine as their father, still had too many moments of sticking their finger in water and declaring proudly it was wet.
And even worse is the notion that Carolyn's ouster means making room for more "I just wet my pants but maybe if I smile really, really stupidly no one will notice" Rancic. Or screaming Richard Quest clone Sean. It's bad enough that Ivanka had to sully my Project Runway viewing experience this season.
Of course these is a perverse side of me that actually hopes Trump somehow talks NBC in renewing TA after this fall because I want to see just how ridiculously bad Trump can make it.

How much of Carolyn's firing was motivated to make way for Ivanka to sit permanently in Carolyn's seat?
George was easier to push aside for Don, Jr. He's 78, isn't really into being a celebrity, and is a loyal family operative of the old school (he came up when "loyal to the family" was an all or nothing thing). Just say George didn't want to travel to LA all the time and he'll go along. Also, he's a guy, so he's allowed to get older and still be seen with DT.
Carolyn, however, is 36 and has an entire career ahead of her. She's probably looking at a near future when she's no longer useful to the family (no longer pretty enough to decorate DT's arm) and trying to establish herself outside the organization before being put out to pasture (probably at 39).
