Suicide missions often end in tears.
cuiusquemodi
Been 3 minutes, and no post yet?

Evidently. Guess everyone else is still in shock. I don't blame them, this would be one for the permenant video archives, eh?

I don't have much to say, really. After Daniels' explination, I figured he'd explain who Temporal Shower Man is. I really want to know who "she" is. Maybe she's the Sphere-Builder's Temporal Shower Woman. Of course... given the resemblance between the Sphere-Builder we've seen thusfar and the Suliban, who's to say they aren't one in the same (or at least siblings): [blatant speculation] TSM and Co. being the Sphere-Builders' attempt to supress humanity. When the Suliban failed to retard human exploration, S-B figured they had to destroy humanity outright.[/blatant speculation]

I would have liked a bit more resolution to at least one of the subplots in this episode, rather than a TBC that could be predicted 20 minutes from the end of the show.

Far from destroying the franchise, I think Daniel's mere comment will launch an Enterprise-J series of books. I wouldn't mark Enterprise canceled just quite yet.

Finally, to summarize the episode and quote the words of the m'eh Keanu Reeves: Whoa.
fuzzyduck
Well I'm assuming that there was a "To be continued" at the end of the episode. Stupid CityTV.

I really liked that episode, but I kinda knew that Quantum wasn't going to blow up the disco ball of doom that early in the episode.

Some things I noticed in the episode:
- There was a lot of head nodding in Quantum's speach to the crew. I was half expecting him to head-but someone in the circle.
- The disco ball of doom schematic reminded me of the battle moons from Shadow Raiders (eg. War Planets in the States) show.
- Also, the big Xindi ship looked like a ship in the Star Trek : Bridge Commander video game. Or it might have had the same colouring.

And I pray the dreaded reset button ™ isn't employed. Since we didn't see any of the (recognizable) crew members get killled, that's a good sign .... I think.

Been 2 minutes, and no post yet?

Sorry, I'm a slow typer. ;-)

I've been composing my thoughts but all I can say is, WOW! Pretty darn good episode.
Lagos
fuzzyduck, no there was no "To be continued" at the end, I watched it on UPN after CityTV ended.
CaptainCanuck
Wow. Some really good stuff here tonight. The return of Daniels was great, as was the view of the massive engagement in the 25th (?) century. Archer was all man tonight, making the tough decisions. Mayweather had lines, and scenes! This is easily one of Mayweather's best episodes, just in terms of involvement and a few character moments. Although his part is still pitifull when compared to the average screentime alotted a TNG or DS9 supporting character. I was really impressed with the believability of the scenes following Archer's capture. Watching Degra, Tucker-Xindi (the black humanoid, named so since he's played by Tucker Smallwood), and Furby-Xindi arguing over his information. As Tucker-Xindi predicted, the Council is fracturing. Reptillian-Commander blatantly disrespected the others, and broke his word. The Men and the Furbies work together closely. The Reptiles are clearly the Bushites among the Xindi, and the Aquatics could go either way. Neither Degra, Furby, or Tucker mentioned the Insectoids, which leads me to place them in the Reptile camp.
Also, according to Daniels, the Klingons will eventually join the Federation! I always wondered about that.
Hoshi seems to be taking Mayweather's place as the most ignored crewmember. She didn't even get a close-up during Archer's goodbye.
jen
The dreaded reset button is bound to make an appearance--aargh. Someone confiscate it. And who the hell is that weepy chick in the catsuit? If T'Pol's non-Vulcaness isn't resolved sometime soon, I'll...I'll...er, be really angry. All in all, good episode, but the T'Pol thing is driving me nuts. Excited to see how the Xindi politics play out. And satisfying to finally have the timeline sorted out.
frenchtoast
I think the T'Pol thing will be worked out. To me, it seemed she was having the Vulcan equivalent of a nervous breakdown. What irritated me is that Trip took forever to figure it out.

When Maywho volunteered for the mission, I thought, so that's how they'll get rid of Maywho. Thank goodness for small favors?

Man, the more I think about it, the more I like this epi. I giggled when Travis hit Enterprise test flying the shuttle. And is Travis Spiderman? How does that guy move so fast?

ETA Loyal Viewer, already? Woo-hoo

To quote Moe from the Simpsons...

Whhhhaaaaaa?

Well I'm definitely looking forward to the next episode!
And damn that was a good ep!
adhonus
That was the best episode of the series so far. And, I bet they won't be doing a reset button, at least, not in the same way they've done before. But, where were the Macos? I'm blind, but I didn't see a single one.

And, I like the T'Pol irrationality, and it's somehow satisfying to see a ship in mortal danger because someone completely froze up. Nobody's perfect.

ETA: I think it's understood that this will be continued because the whole season has been serialized, so they didn't bother to add that at the end. Maybe they're having fun with us, and are playing to the fear the show might not be on next year.
dml
Good episode, but IMHO severely over-hyped. The acting was very good and Travis not only had lines, but he was actually quite compelling.

I found T'Pol's behavior, especially towards Trip utterly disgusting. At least I was glad that Trip realized that there was something wrong with her. The complete emotinal breakdown and her failure to do her job as captain of the Enterprise was totally unacceptable.

Favorite scenes:

-The lovely shots of the underwater planet and the weapon, as well as Trip's reaction to seeing it for the first time.
-The final battle scene when the Xindi are blasting the ship.
-Trip running around Engineering trying to keep things together and save his people.
-The Trip/T'Pol confrontations were amazing, Connor and Jolene really light up the screen.
-The scenes with Drega, I think the actor is doing a wonderful job and turning him into a terrific re-occurring character.
cuiusquemodi
I actually hadn't thought reset button. After all, this is the resolution of the major plot of the series, not unlike the Babylon 5 episode Into the Fire.

This season actually does have the slight smell of JMS painted near it. Had they dedicated a whole episode to the interrogation of Quantum (and a whole season, or half a season to this episode plus its conclusion), I'd think that JMS himself was working for Paramount.
Skategrrl
Wow, that was a super ending.

I'm speechless.

(And yeah, I cried when Archer took Porthos to sick bay. I am such a sap.)
frenchtoast
(And yeah, I cried when Archer took Porthos to sick bay. I am such a sap.)
I cried, but for poor Porthos' ears. Sheesh, don't do that to a dog!
Beregond
I liked it quite well, especially our visit to the 26th century (though I knew it was coming). I still think Daniels could have given him a bit more to work with than a silly little medal.

Loved the underwater stuff, very nifty. It didn't seem that diving in slowed them down by much, though.

Q to Degra: "Hello again". Hee.

Wow, six weeks till we see more! Fun.
the47thman
Good episode. Not very good... just good.

*waits for hail of tomatoes to diminish*

The problem I had was that the episode lacked an emotional center. None of the Archer-saying-goodbye scenes rang with any finality to me; it was all too business-like. Still, I've gotta say, I am loving the return of the multi-episode arc. It's been too long. The end of this definitely redeemed the slightly chewy middle. I have a feeling that Snake Eyes isn't that keen on the idea of leaving survivors. And Trip was doing a heckuva job, even if he didn't have a door to roll under.
GoldfishGirl42
Yaay, I can finally post my thoughts!

Yes, the only words that could describe this episode aptly: Whoa. Or for the more profane among us:Holy fuck.

Yaay for Bakula; unlike the end of Shockwave, I was actually a little sniffly watching the goodbye on the bridge. ( Or maybe I'm just a sucker for gathered group goodbyes.) And I liked seeing him taunt the Reptilian- and then watching his face crumble learning Enterprise was under attack.

T'Pol going to hide in the ready room. Trip immediately calling her on it- and the scene that followed in the shuttle bay. "I'm not gonna let you kill yourself."
And the whispered "Get out." Brava , Jolene and Connor.

Actually, I think one of the most affecting parts was the silent explosion of the monitoring station, and Malcolm ( Malcolm!) actually wincing.

Continuity Fairy! ( And her friend ,PastDeedsComingBackToHauntYouMan.)

Damn, Travis had some good screen time. And they didn't kill him with the bridge bubble falling down. ( What was with Trip's "You want a senior officer for this , right?" I love the Boy, but he really seems to have a deathwish this season.)

The ending....wow, the ending. Unlike some Trek battles , with this , it's like you physically felt Enterprise get ripped to shreds. And we don't have a blast door for Trip to roll under- just him and his crew desparately trying to hold things together. Trip looking up sadly as his engine room burns. The bridge being abandoned. The final close in on T'Pol's haunted eyes. Wow.

I don't wanna wait 6 weeks to find out what happens!! Damnit.
gforce2002
I thought this episode was probably the best of the series (so far), or at least tied with "Twilight". For one of very few times when watching Enterprise (although I like the show generally), I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. The final battle and closing scene of the Enterprise drifting in space was very dramatic.

I had to laugh (!) at Archer's interrogation scene though - did anyone else find the line: ReptilXindi: "What do you think my specialty is?" - Archer: "Stinkin' up a room!!" laugh out loud funny? I cracked up.

Anyway, great episode!

ETA: Forgot to mention the nice bit on (alternate timeline) continuity when Reptilian Xindi says that he wants to make sure EVERY human is eliminated. Nice reference to "Twilight"...
pennyq
Talk about role reversal between Trip and T'Pol! Now who's acting emotionally and who's acting rationally? Well, now we know SOMETHING is wrong with T'Pol and so does Trip.

I LOVED this episode. I winced with the characters when they blew up the lunar outpost. I was weepy when the captain was saying goodbye (even though I knew he wasn't really going to die), I thought the underwater scenes were really cool, and I was so glad they brought back Daniels and got back into the TCW story.

And the end -- I don't even know what to say, but watching bodies floating out of the ship, and the ship crumbling...

Six weeks?
Are they crazy?
Isaboe
6 weeks til the next episode? The hell? Why? Curses!!

I didn't start tearing up til the ship started to disintegrate. But I know Quantum will get them out of it.

6 weeks!!..... AAAA!
cuiusquemodi
Looking at the airing schedule on ST.com (Airing Schedule (Possible Spoiler)), we find that the next episode, Damage, is scheduled to air the 21st of April, making it 7 weeks hence. The last three episodes of season three air the 28th of April, and the 5th and 12th of May. So whilst we must wait, this is not a two parter. It's (presumably) a five parter! Not sure if that constitutes a spoiler, but better safe than sorry.

I just found it so incredibly ballsy that not only did one redshirt fly off into space, but at least three. It is possible that they were MACOs, but I think Hayes at the least (if not Daniel Dae Kim's MACO) deserve more than a floating away body shot.

But I just can't get over one question: Who is She?
fuzzyduck
6 weeks!?!?!???

KAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!

Holy crap. I'm actually anticipating an Enterprise episode?
metal666
1. Enterprise J, whee! Had me giggleing like a fool for ten minutes, good to know they didn't stop after the TNG movies crashed like three of them.
2. CQ handing Porthos over to Phlox, aww sniff.
3. CQ telling reptile about turtle soup. Are turtles actully reptiles?

Did any one else notice the effects of random people being blown into space at the end? Eeww, but kind of cool (effect wise).
frenchtoast
I had to laugh (!) at Archer's interrogation scene though - did anyone else find the line: ReptilXindi: "What do you think my specialty is?" - Archer: "Stinkin' up a room!!" laugh out loud funny? I cracked up.

I, too, cracked up during the interrogationg scene. "They [the dinos] died out because their brains were the size of walnuts. That's something very small." Hee, hee.

And Mr. GF Toast, had to wipe the spittle off his face after Archer and Daniels discussing the benefits of negotiating.

Was the ep a little overyhyped? Yes. Perhaps the next two or three episodes will justify the hype. But I must admit, I really enjoyed the episode.

6 weeks til the next episode? The hell? Why? Curses!!

My thoughts exactly. I am looking forward to Keckler's recap.
CaptainSnarky
You...Klingonserveryou...atemypost!

I can't friggin wait till Saturday, which is when I'll finally get to see this episode. I have a feeling this will be my "Jem'Hadar"(the episode that got. me. HOOKED on DS9)
Psychohl
Is it just me or did the Xindi weapon look just like the Death Star? Giant spherical weapon that can destroy a planet and the only way to destroy it is to fly down a tunnel and shoot at a tiny explosive target, that doesn't sound familiar at all. Sorry I'm not as much of a Star Wars geek as I am a Star Trek geek but it's very obvious. Couldn't they come up with something more original?

I really wish they would clear up the Vulcan with emotions plot line too. I find myself yelling at the screen, "Vulcans don't cry!" and "Vulcans do not kiss people... even if they are a friends clone, who is going off to die in order to save the original guy he was cloned from...." or you know something like that :0)

The rest of the episode was awesome though. Enterprise has really hit it's stride this season. Like the last few Star Trek series I think it takes a few seasons for them to discover the carachters and get down to the good storytelling.
tothemax
Where to begin. Where. to. begin. Loved it. Simply loved it. Archer, my man Travis, Trip, even weapy T'Pol. LOVED IT!

Some of the plot wasn't surprising at all. No one was actually stupid enough to believe that Quantum was going to kill himself, much less halfway through the episode. That part didn't have any dramatic tension to it, I thought. Although Quantum's goodbye speech was sad.

For once I was glad to see Daniels. Enterprise-J was just a wet dream come true. I liked that Archer did not blindly trust Daniels, whom I don't trust. A big fuck you, future boy.

But most of all, I loved the ending. The ship being torn apart, T'Pol's face, the 3 crewmen being blown into space. Must rewatch. Now.
RiverThames
I don't think, in <cough> years of watching Trek, that I've seen a space battle scene like that, or one where the ship was just shredded like that. Fully blown up, sure. But never a torn up mess.
ciscokidinsf
Whoa...... memories of the destruction of the first Defiant in DS9 came back when I watched the last minutes tonight. OK, I'll say it... best.episode.ever... slightly better than 'Twilight' plot-wise. Plus the shot of the 26th century gives it extra points , yeayy! Bring back Trek from the future (future=more than 24th century)

Whoa... I wonder if they can repair the ship... word to those who said to 'hide' the reset button... 'cause I love my Trek hard and gritty.

The speech tried hard to be emotive, but the little details were much more deep... Porthos and Phlox...T'Pol's tears and bitchy attitude.

I'm confused on a small part, who is the future-woman they keep talking about?
Dane
Wow. Damn. I am going to be so pissed if they cancel this show now, when it's kicking ass like this.

LOVED Archer going for broke, with nothing left to lose in the interrogation scene -- just having fun pissing off his captors. That walnuts line was hilarious.

I'm sure I'm the last one to this particular party, but <rampant speculation> I think Daniels is the Captain of the Enterprise-J, or maybe the K. The Xindi medallion, I'm guessing, was given to him by a member of his crew. I mean, I can see the scene in my head where the crewmember gives it to him and says, "If it'll help, sir."</rampant speculation>

I can't believe we have to wait so long for the next one.
Anabanana
WOW!
I *really* liked that episode. I thought Bakula did a great job most of the time. Yes, we knew his "goodbyes" were unnecessary (though who knows who might die on the ship), but how wierd would it be if the Capt. went off on a suicide mission without saying goodbye? I'm sorry to say I wasn't as impressed with the interrogation as some of you were because it seemed like a ripoff of the Firefly episode, War Stories. Biased? Yes, I am. I do agree it was clever, funny, and gut-wrenching at the same time. I loved Bakula's reactions to the ship being attacked. Utter horror.
Trinneer and Blalock were awesome. I do agree they'd better address T'pol's un-Vulcanness, but it seems to be a plot point, not bad acting/writing.
Yay on Mayweather and Hoshi! They seemed to be 3 dimensional this episode.
I also really like how Degra is developing. Hurrah -- development!
The "ending" was great. I doubt they will press the reset button. They have made too much progress in the main arc. (IMO.)
I am really looking forward to the next episode, and that's saying something...
the47thman
But I just can't get over one question: Who is She?

I love how that was just dropped in there- subtle, but juicy! At any rate, I think she's the direct contact between the Sphereoids and the Xindi; she's the one who told the Xindi directly "You need to Kill All Humans." I think Degra and co. think She may have facilitated the RepXindi's trip to Detroit. Suspicion abounds!

How much of a Trekkie am I? I knew that the ship Daniels took Archer to was a Federation vessel... from the carpet. Yikes.
miss_tess
After reading all your comments, my views have pretty much been voiced in several areas. Since there is so much wild speculation, I'll add my own....

Suddenly out of the blue...the Andorians sweep in and Shran saves the day. Hee. Sorry couldn't resist. I just found myself liking Degra so much in this one that it reminded me of my dear blue boy. Is it a bad thing to like the aliens better than the crew? Nah....it was like that on DS9 too.
Gilmel
I liked the episode. When they took the ship into the water, I thought that was cool. When they found the orb being constructed underwater, I got excited.

I am pissed as hell about emotional T'Pol. Not because she's an emotional Vulcan, but because she's an emotional female Vulcan. Because if she were a male Vulcan there is no way in hell they would be making her weepy. But we can't forget she's really a woman, and emotionless, frigid women must be thawed because deep down all women are just emotional piles of goo. Goo! Not logic. Never logic. No, goo! *pant pant* [/rant]

Although now it's been posted here that there's a spoiler to be known about why T'Pol's being emotional, so I guess I'm not supposed to be ranting.

This season actually does have the slight smell of JMS painted near it.

This episode sure did. When they said to magnify the lead ship, I said to myself, "That looks like a Minbari war cruiser." And now the warrior group of the council of disparate groups is going behind the council's back and doing things they're not supposed to, like in B5. And the council's starting to break up because of this. And the supposed enemy Xindi should be working with humans against a greater, common foe. Yep, screams B5 to me.

I was not at all impressed with the interrogation scene. I thought the dialogue was stupid and not funny. It destroyed any seriousness that scene was intended to evoke.

Seeing bodies being blown into space is always chilling (again like in one episode of B5 when some aliens spaced their captives).
Cleo256
Apparently Vulcans do have emotions. They just know enough to go someplace private when they need a good cry, so their reputation stays intact.

Great, great episode. Quantum finally seemed captainly in his goodbye speech. And I disagree that the speech was unneeded. He's separated from the crew, and they suspect he's dead. Who knows how long he'll stay separated from the crew? (although I suspect it'll just be until the next episode)

Loved the music when Quantum was flying away on his "suicide" mission. I haven't noticed the music for years and years, because it's never allowed to stand out, so this was great.

I don't think... that I've seen a space battle scene like that, or one where the ship was just shredded like that. Fully blown up, sure. But never a torn up mess.

I think Nemesis did it better (people flying through the remains of the viewscreen), but only because they had a movie budget. I'm more emotionally attached to NX-01 than to Enterprise-E.

did anyone else find the line: ReptilXindi: "What do you think my specialty is?" - Archer: "Stinkin' up a room!!" laugh out loud funny?
Yes. Me. That was such a John Crichton line. And Archer channeling Crichton? Nothing's gonna be wrong with that.
Kris_AB
Aside from some good T'Pol/Trip, Archer taking Porthos to Phlox, and that spectacular space battle at the end, I wasn't all that impressed by this ep. In fact, after all the sweeps build-up (and goddamn filler episodes, though I suppose "Hatchery" may play a larger part eventually since the writers could've found other ways to sneak the crew into the Xindi water headquarters aside from stolen insectoid ships), I felt pretty let down. I dunno, it just didn't do much for me. The Daniels bit was clumsy, the Xindi interrogations and conversations bored me to tears (though I agree that the guy who plays Degra is a pretty good guest star), and I was starting to fall asleep duruing the captain's farewell.
Jeebus Shuttlesworth
Apparently Vulcans do have emotions. They just know enough to go someplace private when they need a good cry, so their reputation stays intact.

I don't see how this violates any canon about Vulcans. We knew since TOS that Vulcans feel emotion, they just suppress it. Even Spock shed a tear once in a blue moon.

Yay, arcy goodness! Loved that Maywho got to do something meaningful. Loved the timewarp, Daniels, and Degra. And the battle scene was gutwrenching.

I thought of the infamous "gazelle" speech during the interrogation scene. "Eons ago, my planet was dominated by large reptiles. But then gazelles came and...zzzzzzzz." Quantum really loves those nature documentaries, huh?
nerdyduck
Anytime Porthos makes an appearance, you know it's gonna be a good show. Such a bittersweet goodbye when Quatum handed Porthos to Phlox. "Give him a piece of cheese" practically had me tearing up. Skategrrl, I don't blame you for being a sap because I'm one too!

What's up with T'Pol? I understand getting a little upset about never seeing someone again, but damn if she wasn't about to rip Trip a can of whoop ass.

Great action sequence at the end although I get creeped out when I see bodies go in space like that. Huge explosions and T'Pol's face at the end just had me in shock.

Yay, arcy goodness! Loved that Maywho got to do something meaningful.

Word. Totally digging this action-packed Maywho. On a shallow note, it's better if he's sleeveless or shirtless.
Michmak
I loved this episode - and I thought T'Pol losing it - as far as Vulcans can lose it - was fantastic. Is it because of the expanse she's going a little loopy? Because of the "mind rape" from last season? I also thought that her final scenes with Archer where fantastic - really picked up the bond they seemed to share the first two seasons (and from Twilight this year). I know that I am in the definite minority here when I say I hate her and Trip together - but I love the thought of Archer and T'Pol.

It's also really nice to see Reed playing a larger role the last few episodes - I love him! Hoshi snapping at T'Pol about the Universal Translator was brilliant, and even Maywho got to shine.

I can't wait for the next ep. Can't. Wait.
Hercules Q. Einstein
That was awesome. I couldn't believe it was the same show that I had been watching. But the "slip him some cheese" line just made me laugh. I thought, "They just slipped us some cheese." And then it made me remember that last time he was going off to his death he gave Porthos to Hoshi? That's a total party foul. If you give your dog to someone once when you're going off to your death and then the next time your going off to your death you give him to someone else, you're going to offend the first person. That is, if that person actually had any screen time.
frenchtoast
Suddenly out of the blue...the Andorians sweep in and Shran saves the day.

Wow, I thought the same thing. How cool would that be? However, [Speculation] I think the Primates and Arboreals are going to swoop in and save the day [/end Speculation].

As for the weepy T'Pol, as enraged as the promos made me, it seems to be a plot point and we should learn about it later.

Which is another aspect of this epidsode that I loved. All the hints and tidbits dropped. Plus all the little points that were added from previous eps. Good stuff.

And I admit a guilty to pleasure to enjoying the interrogation scene. While some have pointed out that it was inappropriate place for humor, for me it was a welcome relief to be able to laugh. In fact, I liked most of the humor that was placed in the ep for that reason, a small release of tension.

It seems that the writers really seem to have hit their stride with this show. Certainly makes up for some of the episode they gave us previously. But only somewhat.
Sheap
Good episode - long time trekkie, this might be my first time posting in this forum on TWOP though.

A couple of things bugged me and I don't mean insectoids:
1) Archer should not be feeling any remorse for blowing up the Xindi observation post. Innocent? They are enemy soldiers in a war who were about to disrupt your mission. Killing them is your job.
2) Archer not being willing to "order" anyone to die: Mayweather volunteered and so did Trip! You don't have to order anyone to do anything. And not only did they volunteer, either would be better for the job, not to mention not being the captain.
2a) Instead, Archer should have said that he is going to try to negotiate and only destroy the weapon if negotiations break down. A forced negotiation with Archer holding his finger on the trigger as leverage to make the Xindi bargain would have made more sense (i.e. it would have made any sense at all). The way it was, it seems like Archer fumbles his way into the (presumed) solution totally in spite of himself. And, it would have avoided yet another Archer Goes To Jail situation.
3) Don't they have a better name for the Sphere Builders than just ... Sphere Builders? It's like Species 8472. Is there some rule about trans dimensional races never using their real names?
4) After the captain left on his mission, what is Enterprise doing hanging around waiting to be discovered? Once Archer reached the planet, they should have gotten out of there as fast as they could.
5) The Enterprise-J is sort of dorky looking. Heh. (looks nice on the inside though!)

But the good:
1) Incredible battle sequence - it also reminded me of the Defiant's destruction.
2) The battle of Procyon(?): That looked like a Sovereign-class ship fighting in that battle (or maybe it was the Rhode Island from Endgame?). Either way that makes it seem to me like the battle is not native to Daniels' time either, probably instead 25th century, or else the Federation was using some real relics in the battle. Also, Procyon is right in Earth's backyard, if that's actually what Daniels said. Of course, they probably only used the Sovereign class ship because they already had a CGI model for it.
3) Amazing CGI effects also - especially the big splash into the water. It is very, very hard to do convincing water with CGI and it only very slightly looked computer generated.
4) Apparently the Klingons are officially Federation members by the 26th century. Neat. No mention of any of our other friends from the 22nd through 24th centuries though. Well, I guess the Klingons are by far the friendliest of all the non-Federation races in the 24th/25th centuries so it makes sense, but I would have been more impressed if he'd said Cardassians or Vorta (or Kazon...)
4a) If there are Xindi serving on Enterprise-J, would it have hurt them to show us one? It would have gone a long way toward convincing Archer (and me). And I wonder which of the Xindi species they have on board. :)
5) Lots of homages to previous battles and shows:
Archer hanging from the ceiling like Picard in "Chain of Command" (similar room too)
The ceiling falling in on the bridge like in Wrath of Khan
The fire on the bridge, and the evacuation of engineering, very reminiscent of "Yesterday's Enterprise." Actually, the entire battle reminded me of that show.

To Dane: Daniels is no captain. He's too young, for one, and the jobs he does are not captain material (they seem more like Lieutenant or Lt. Commander level). Based on his uniform, he's probably not even a Starfleet officer. It's likely that the Temporal Agents or whatever they are called are attached to Section 31 or some other non-Starfleet agency.
Sooeygun
I giggled when Travis hit Enterprise test flying the shuttle.

Had to rewind and watch that again. Loved Reed's wince.

How did the Captain get through the detection grid? Wouldn't they have noticed the same ship going through again? Or did he just go really fast and hope for the best?

[Speculation] I think the Primates and Arboreals are going to swoop in and save the day [/end Speculation]

And then help them rebuild the ship....
skye1974
Once again, everyone has echoed my thoughts. Darn early bedtime!

Anyway, I loved Azati Prime. GoldfishGirl, your honor is completely safe. I would give it an A (in fact, I did).

They just know enough to go someplace private when they need a good cry, so their reputation stays intact.

Cleo, I don't think T'Pol knew she was going to cry. It seemed as if the tears were a surprise to her. I know you were being facetious but I just thought I'd point that out.

As for the weepy T'Pol, as enraged as the promos made me, it seems to be a plot point and we should learn about it later.

I was a bit skeptical, too, about how that would be handled. I thought JB did a good job with it. As someone mentioned earlier, it's sort of amusing that the tables have turned and a logical Trip is trying to rationalize with an emotional T'Pol.

As for Quantum, he's definitely growing on me. The issue was raised by someone after last week's ep about him having to pay for all the ethics he's been "bending". It seems as if Quantum himself feels he has to pay. I wonder if he will come out of this a different and better captain, or will he go back to being same dope he was before.

Man I can't wait to see how this is resolved. I chime in with the "six long weeks" crowd.

That looked like a Sovereign-class ship fighting in that battle

Another board I post on said there was a Prometheus-class ship in there, which begs the same question of antiquity.

But I just can't get over one question: Who is She?

All I could think was "Oh crap, not Alice Krige again?"

But I liked the episode - a lot.

I just assumed that "She" is the Xindi name for Future Guy. Or maybe their Future Guy is not the same Future Guy as the Humans and Suliban see, and is actually Future Girl, but from the same race(?).

Also: Prometheus class, yes, that's what I meant by Rhode Island, but couldn't remember the name of it.

By now I'm pretty much going to hate any episode of Enterprise. How this stays on the air instead of shows like Firefly makes me daydream about how I'm going to take over a television network just so I can have something good to watch on TV.

Anyways, my thoughts:

1. Okay, so Daniels tells Archer that the only way to save Earth is through diplomacy, by reasoning with the Xindi. Archer ignores this, decides to destroy the weapon, fails, and gets caught. So then what does he do? He decides to alienate his captors further by making fun of them! Yes, what a great way to prevent a war, idiot! Reason number 2394581247 why I hate Archer.

2. If the Xindi were smart, wouldn't they equip their detection grid to detect non-Xindi life signs?

3. Trip and Mayweather testing out the Xindi ship in the cargo bay/docking bay/whatever by pressing random buttons? What if they accidentally hit the warp/full impulse button?

4. So Hoshi can't make the Xindinsectoid-to-English translator sound non-computery, but her English-to-Xindinsectoid speech generator somehow is perfect enough to fool real Xindi?

I hate this show. I'm a huge Star Trek fan, but this show is giving me second thoughts, almost like how Star Wars Episodes 1-2 must make a lot of Star Wars fans feel.

Apparently the Klingons are officially Federation members by the 26th century.

True, but on the other hand, Daniels isn't going to bother rattling off too many species names that would mean nothing to Archer.

When Daniels was talking to Archer, I thought Daniels said the battle the Federation was fighting was called the Batle of Omicron Persei 8. I really should stop watching so much television.
