Seriously? Tiara?

Link to Tiara's bio.
WanderingSnark
No idea.

However, I've heard rumor that they think she will be the crown jewel of AI3.
Shack
That's just the best name, ever. Try to say it without giggling afterward. You can't.
Blake
Purifoy sounds like a kind of water filter. Tiara sounds like the stripper who goes on after Fantasia.
gentlemanindust
I like the way she comes across in her video. I'm looking forward to seeing her perform (or seeing anything about her, for that matter).
Lalaine
Who is she again?
FahrVerGnugen
She was part of a montage in Hawaii of people who were from the mainland. I think she said she was from Wisconsin and held up her lei and quipped with the banal, "I just got leid a few minutes ago."
It's old...but still...
Cracked my shit up.
Adammo88
Thanks FahrVerGnugen for pointing out the Wisconsin connection for Ms Tiara (*giggle* - you're right Shack, heh). Because I found this link from a Mariah Carey site (shut up, all of you - I like her, lol) that mentions Tiara from a Wisconsin newspaper.

Beloit Daily News Article Mentioning Tiara Purifoy

The article is regarding a NAACP fundraiser, and here's the Tiara (*giggle*) bit:

The program included a spiritual hymn from Jason Foster and an uplifting Mariah Carey tune from Tiara Purifoy. Both performances were peppered with applause and cheers.
Cheese Pleese
gentlemanindust - Same. I like her. I don't know if I'll like her singing but I like her.

Adammo88 - I like Mariah too. Her campiness is fun! Whee!

I wonder what Ms Tiara (yes Shack, you are right, I did giggle after typing her name...once again, spot on with your observations...;)) will sing for the semis.

She said she would like to have Whitney Houston as a guest judge right? I wouldn't know whether to laugh or cry. What a waste of talent!

ETA: I meant to say can you imagine CWH's antics on the show. Wow...it would totally upstage anything Paula has said. I wouldn't know whether to laugh or cry at the waste of talent. The drugs don't work kids!
prmami
Purifoy sounds like a kind of water filter.

That's the same thing I thought.

I remember the "leid" joke but I hope when her time does come up she's somewhat memorable. In a good way, of course.
El Aurens
I have heard that she is supposed to be really good. Maybe she'll pull a Latoya and come out of nowhere to give a great performance.
Make It So
Nice eyes. A little scary, but nice.
Cheese Pleese
Yes, she is supposed to be good. Well apparently Jasmine thinks she is the one to watch. Still, she could ruin her chances with a bad song. Group 4 should be interesting.
prmami
Where did Jasmine give her opinions on her competition?

About Tiara: I've seen plenty a' women with her hairstyle but she looks like she's about to take flight. Hope she has a new one next week.

ETA:

I found this on one of her fansites:

University of Wisconsin-Whitewater senior Tiara R. Purifoy, 21, who was Miss Beloit 1999, is among the 30 remaining contestants on the second installment of "American Idol" on FOX. She sang two songs, one of them her Miss Wisconsin talent selection, “I Will Always Love You,” before the panel of judges, which included singer Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell. Late last year, she won a radio station contest in Rockford, Ill., that guaranteed her an audition spot in Los Angeles , and she learned she had made it to the television series that starts Jan. 21. Last year's inaugural series included finalist Tamyra Gray, who was Miss Atlanta 1998; Melanie Noelle Sanders, Miss Vicksburg 2000 and second runner-up to Miss Mississippi 2000; and the then-reigning Miss Burleson (Texas), Kristin Holt. Ms. Holt, 21, of Plano, Texas, had to...
So Tiara tried out for American Idol 2?
Cheese Pleese
If you check out Jasmine's thread, I think posted a link to the post where I got it from. Anyway, basically she was on Hawaii radio saying that she thought that Tiara was the one to watch.

Ok, what does this mean? Was she an alternate? I'm confused.
Mern
Am I the only person that sees a striking resemblance between Tiara, and MadTv's Debra Wilson impersonating Whitney. BOBBBBAAAYYYYYYY!!! No? Ok.
Make It So
How long before she drops/changes the name? I keep hearing "Purify" whenever I see her name. Purify yourselves!

What in the world is Tiara wearing in that Group 4 picture on the homepage of the official site?
deadpill
I like her name and I love her hair.
katymo

Bwaha, I know! Someone please tell her that a bra is to be worn beneath your clothing.

She does have some Debra Wilson-ness doesn't she?
VacaChico
I actually don't see the Debra Wilson in her at all. Hopefully she will bring something tonight, because I have a feeling the talent peaked in Group 3 (Hopefully I'm wrong). In Tiara's interview, it almost sounds as if it were the first time she was pronouncing her own name because of the awkwardness with which she says it. Maybe that's just me having a hard time digesting the juxtaposition of 2 names like that. By the way, she wouldn't change a name like that because it has an exotic nature - the only names that get changed are the exceedingly long ones or anything ethnic. Outrageous.
Make It So
I think they've got Tiara singing "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" in the radio trailers for tonight's show. She sounds good. I just can't take that song anymore, though. I want to take it and give it a quick death and burial. Out of all the songs in history, these kids keep choosing this one.

She'll have to come with a lot to steal any of Latoya's thunder from last week.
prmami

I wasn't feeling it either. Hopefully she won't be wearing that for the actual show.
I think they've got Tiara singing "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" in the radio trailers for tonight's show.

I know there seems like a limited list of song to sing from but Damn. Put that dead horse in some kind of casket already.
bluedawg
another article about tiara, from her home state
MC SammyD
Ugh. Why, Tiara, why? Girl has got a GREAT voice, but "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" will never be a good song to sing on AI unless you really got out there and, you know...DANCE! (I love you, J.Fu!) I'm still going to vote for her because she's got potential. *snerk* Like her, but didn't love her song choice.
BlueBikini
They shoot down the choices if they can't get performing license from the artist. I think she would have been much better on a different song. I also felt the tempo of the song was jacked up and that contributed to her shakiness.
rosa2003
Paula looked sober, but I doubt she was if she thought this was the second best performance in the groups this year, or did she say evah on AI? Tiara was screamy, pitchy and just plain off.
katymo
Tiara was screamy, pitchy and just plain off.

Perfect. That's exactly how I felt. She just wasn't pleasant to listen to.
superchunk
Too much hype, too little to back it up, but she'll get votes. And Suzy deserves each of her votes, if you're going for who does it better...
Slaebo
Totally over-hyped, and totally meh.

Which means she'll make it through, of course.

How scary is it that I agreed with Simon on almost every call he made tonight?
jcpdiesel21
I totally agree with Simon that her performance was a mess. She was very breathy in some portions, and her voice seemed very thin on the song.
Make It So
Tiara, Sally Field called - she wants her habit back.

With the pre-buzz, I thought she'd be the one to give Latoya a run. Happily, I can say, nuh uh.

She yelled. At least Latoya shouted with tone - this girl just shouts with shoutiness. She also didn't look comfortable - I could see what Paula said about engaging the audience. She looked as if "Ok, I just have to get through this" as if she doesn't enjoy performing. With those saggy cheeks, she looks like Droopy. I could've done without her "let America decide" comments, too.

If she makes it through tomorrow, I won't be mad. As long as it's not at the expense of George.
deadpill
Now, here's a girl who actually has potential. She showed off too many things she could do. If she just sticks to one style for each performance, I could see her doing well.

However, I still didn't like her too much. Though I think she'll be in the top 3.
the fresh maker
She looked as if "Ok, I just have to get through this" as if she doesn't enjoy performing.

I was waiting for her to smile, or something. Her face was so blah the whole time.

If she just sticks to one style for each performance, I could see her doing well.

It's sad the performers want to explode with the vocal pyrotecnics when their voices are strong enough to begin with. It was kind of funny when Paula mentioned her and Randy's knees bumped when Tiara attempted that note. My shoulder started rising trying to help her get there.
triggerhappyjack
She looked as if "Ok, I just have to get through this" as if she doesn't enjoy performing.

Exactly. She couldn't have looked less like she wanted to dance with somebody. It's called a smile, Tiara, look into it. I know the wind nearly carried you and your hair away, but Lord, think of something that makes you happy.
Queen B
I disliked her performance for all the reasons I disliked LaToya. It was just shouting. Out of tune shouting, at that. And there was nothing to it, no substance, no subtlety, no warmth. She can go away now.
katiedid
Why was she dressed like the improbable black love child of Nelly Furtado and Rizzo from Grease? Why were her earrings the size of a small European nation, say Luxembourg? Why did her hair fly up, but her notes couldn't get off the ground? And anyhow, who wears sectioned prongs anywhere on their head as a hairstyle besides the statue of liberty? And why was I not surprised that her singing was not enjoyable?
katisha66
Oh, no - don't tell me somebody else sang I Wanna Dance With Somebody. When will they learn? It was a naff song in the '80s and it.still.bloody.well.is.dammit!
ferretrick
You know the first time I heard her I thought she was very good. Then I played it back and I agreed with Simon-it was a mess. The 2nd time I saw all the flaws-too much shouting, no smile, etc. I think she was all style and flash with no substance. Of course, that could be because that song is all about style with no substance.

But I still think because it was a pretty weak night second chair is between her and Suzy.
callmekitten
Oy that was bad. She had my cat cringing in the corner with her over the top shouting and vocal histrionics.
JohnDee
Tiara did not look good, and she did not sing good. Sing well, even. The judges need to stop smokin' whatever it is they're smokin'.
annonshay
Her performance matched her hair--crazy, frantic, and all over the place.

Simon hit the nail on the head with his remarks.
marlaas
She started out fine, but what the hell was she DOING at the end, and, for that matter, in the middle?! It was shout-y, off-key and just generally cringe-inducing. Awful, IMO---just hold-your-ears awful. As in Lisa-Wilson-level awful. Combine that with the fact that this girl was yet another one we barely saw during auditions while the cameras were too busy following around Scooter Girl, and I just can't see this girl getting enough votes to move forward.
VacaChico
I was fairly surprised when Tiara didn't make it through tonight, or even capture the 3rd chair. However, I was pleasantly surprised that she clinched a wildcard spot. Her hair is crazy and so was her song last night, but I have a feeling that she might be able to work on her mistakes and make next week far better. I am only hoping she will do well because some of the people in the top 12 or wildcard show seem awfully phony, and she seems to be a little more down to earth - I guess it's ridiculous for me to make that judgment - or is it?
nea1982
I am glad Simon picked her. She has a nice voice. Now, she needs to find a *ballad* to sing.
superchunk
This just in from the Stuckeyville Gazette, Ed fans...

Shirley Pifko could be your next American Idol! To be performed, a rendition of the Beverly Hillbillies theme song with words about Simon and Paula.

I keed because I love. Welcome, Tiara!
Make It So
It seems our girl has been given a pass. Don't waste it, Flying Nun.

I actually think she goofed and overdid it last night. I believe there's a good voice hiding under that yell. And even though she shouted at me (my mama never shouted at me like that!), I'm willing to forgive her. She'll have the chance to show the range of her talent if she makes the Top 12.

Listen to me, TP: Do NOT choose a Whitney song next week, if you know what's good for you.
El Aurens
I agree, Make It So. I think she's a good singer who made some bad choices. Uptempo songs don't seem to be her thing, she should go with a ballad.
Taxos
Yep... she has herself a mulligan. She has the voice to take full advantage of it.
DeeeDee
I think she got really lucky this week and as mentioned should take full advantage of the second chance she's gotten. I also agree that she has a seemingly good to great voice and am a little interested in seeing what else she can do.

I think a really really good song choice for her next week would be "Got To Be Real" by Cheryl Lynn. I could see her doing well with it for some odd reason.
Taxos
"Got To Be Real" might just work well for Tiara. She'd need to rein in her voice just a little, like Paula said, but she definitely has the range for it.
