"Episode No.7"

"Barking Up the Wrong Tree" -- Teams face a corporate restructure that levels the playing field in a dog-eat-dog task that takes the battle to the parks and streets. One team gets their hands dirty while the other fritters away valuable time wandering the city in search of an idea.

This falls in the right timeline for this task, as QVC is 5/24 and each task takes about three days. This was written on 5/30. Start at bottom, read to top.

Dog washing?! That's too funny. This could be the funniest episode yet.

BlueSkies, you're amazing!
kulmo
Wow, kulmo. I looked and looked and played around a bit with URLs and didn't find the blurb on week 7. Who do you know?!

goobaletta, I don't really know anybody, I just followed a link from another site and landed here nbcumv.com

I agree with Tashanir and now think that Apex loses both task 5 & 6, forcing Trump to do the corporate reshuffle.

Assuming I'm remembering all the contestants (and assuming I can count) with Pam going over to Apex, both teams will be even with seven.

Trump probably wouldn't do a reshuffling if Apex won one and Mosaic won the other of the next two tasks because the teams would still be even. So I think one of the teams will win both task 5 and task 6. Now maybe its just cause I don't want them to but I can't see Apex winning two in a row.
goobaletta
Oh, I see. They put it on the page with all the previews. Thanks for sharing the link, kulmo!

(I feel so stoopid for not looking there before. D'oh!)
BlueSkies
Yeah, apparently she doesn't have a choice. It seems to me this could happen one of three ways: 1) The Donald orders her back to the women's team; 2) Mosaic is allowed to "pick" someone to give to the other team and decides to feed Pamela to the wolves; 3) Apex is allowed to choose and, in a shocking show of intelligence, they choose Pamela in hopes that she can rescue them--or so they will have someone new to blame if they lose. I hope it is either 1 or 3. Number 2 seems to allow Mosaic a chance to dump someone they perceive as weak and sabotage the other team. Which I don't think is fair. (Plus, if they're dumping someone weak, Pamela probably shouldn't be at the top of that list).

Poor Pamela. She must know even more than the men about how the Apex team is since she lives with them. I didn't know that was Pamela in the room with Ivana and Stacy R when Jennifer C was eavesdropping.

http://apprentice.tv.yahoo.com/theshow/rec...episode4_7.html

Stacy R. turned around and told Ivana and Pamela that, being Jewish, she was offended by Jennifer C.'s comments-- without knowing that Jennifer C. was listening in on her conversation as well.

THE APPRENTICE --(9:00PM-9:59PM) --(TV-PG)

"Episode No.7"

"Barking Up the Wrong Tree" -- Teams face a corporate restructure that levels the playing field in a dog-eat-dog task that takes the battle to the parks and streets. One team gets their hands dirty while the other fritters away valuable time wandering the city in search of an idea.

Wow, based on the facts above. Could we assumed that both Elizabeth and Ivana will be gone by the time Coporate reshuffle happens according to this? The women's team just sucked badly this time around. Who's doing all the casting here?
NYCynthia
Bwah! Dog washing! That's hilarious, especially since so many of the tasks have been so...hoity toity, for lack of a better word.

Regarding all the sex-spoiling going on...did it occur to anyone that both people involved in the incident(s) might be married, and that's why there were allegedly two divorces? Who's married...Chris, Jen M., Maria, Wes.
Kelly is "in a relationship" whatever that means, Sandy's bio on Friendster says the same thing; Ivana's engaged as is Kevin.
The rest of them are single, per NBC.
Bookrat
Well, that would be great if Apex lost the next task, but the previews for next week sure make it look like it's only the guys in the boardroom. I watched the previews again and the only woman I see in the boardroom is Carolyn. Please let the previews be a "fake out" and that the lovely Apex goes down in flames...as long as the coven doesn't team up against Pam and vote her out.
NYCynthia
I'm starting to wonder if the previews were edited differently in different regions, just like the "JAP" comment? Several people have mentioned this, but I certainly didn't see anything in the previews that would have spoiled me to think the men were facing the Cobra.
It also doesn't make sense to me that they would let such a big spoiler slip through editing, you know?
Zycron
Regarding all the sex-spoiling going on...did it occur to anyone that both people involved in the incident(s) might be married, and that's why there were allegedly two divorces?

Oooh! That's interesting... and quite scandalous. Based on all the spoilers, I'm pretty certain that Sandy is one of the cheaters. She also strikes me as "easy" and the most susceptible to a quick hook-up. I can't see Kelly going for her though... maybe Chris? We know he likes BJ's, and Sandy has those big Botoxed lips.

It has been posted that the women sell steak knives and the men sell a panini maker. I was browsing throught the NBC Universal Media Village site and it looks like the men are selling something to do with sandwiches, but I don't think the women are selling knives.

It looks like Apex is selling some sort of cleaning product.

Here, here, here, and here.

That last pic of Sandy shows her holding a box with "It Works" printed on the outside. I Googled "It Works and QVC" and didn't find anything on the US site but found this on the QVCUK site. It looks like those cleaning blocks like the Mr. Clean ones used to get scrapes and dirt off walls.

Here are the men selling something to do with sandwiches/food on a QVC kitchen set - here, here, here, and here (you can see the panini maker).

I can't say for sure, but I think Wes and Sandy are the PM's. See here, here, and here.
NYCynthia
Great finds, clp.
I think you're right about the cleaning product because although I can't find the source now, but I saw something describing the Apex product as some sort of scrubbing thing. Sorry to be so vague. Heh.
I think you're probably right that Wes is the PM, just because that's the most pics we've seen of him, like, ever.
I tend to think that Smeagol is the women's PM, though, specifically because of that one shot where she's standing with the clipboard, wearing a suit. She's looking appropriately self-important and not-working.

BTW, from the spoiler I read at that site-I-now-can't-find, the women's product sells for about $26, but it said that the men's product sold for $73 or something...but on the QVC site the only panini makers they show are $36 and change or $43.50. I was gonna say that it would have been a mistake to sell a product that was three times the price of the womens' product, but it appears that the panini maker they're selling is the $36 one.
You think so?
BlueSkies
It looks like Pamela is still with the men unless they switch just before the task begins.

Group Picture

Look how tall Pamela is, and then look at Stacy R.
txsunshine33
Man, I didn't get an appreciation of how tall Pamela is until that group picture. It does look like she is with the men when they announce the task. Maybe Trump announces the twist then.
NYCynthia
I got the impression from that photo that it was taken right before Trump arrives to give them the task assignment...IIRC, it's the same setting as in the previews where they showed the announcement that Pamela had to switch teams. I don't remember where they were, though.

Smeagol creeps me the fuck out. (and I'm short!)
txsunshine33
Hmm, so given we see the women selling that cleaning thingy, are we still sure that spoiler is correct that the women win? How do we go from steak knives to a cleaning block? And why would the men pull a Sam and try to sell anything related to sandwiches for $70?

Guess I'm grasping at straws because I want the girls to lose again and the earlier spoiler to be wrong.
goobaletta
I think Stacy is the Apex PM too, for reasons I've stated previously and the clipboard shot. I, however, disagree about Wes for Mosaic. He's on air talent for this gig, with John of course, and I really think it's Chris who's PM.

My reasoning is the product they're selling which is one I think he'd be familiar with, and also it's just my reaction to the pix of him at NBCUMV, especially the one on the phone.

My question? Who the hell allowed Andy to walk around dressed like Bob the Builder? Isn't it bad enough that he's the baby of the bunch? Sheesh. What a doofus. Unless, of course, there was a danger of plaster falling and he went all Omarosa on them...

And the shot with the money? Why is there cash? Don't people buy from QVC with credit cards? That pic confused me.

Funniest thing to me in the photos? The stacks and stacks of sandwiches around the guys.
txsunshine33
My question? Who the hell allowed Andy to walk around dressed like Bob the Builder? Isn't it bad enough that he's the baby of the bunch? Sheesh. What a doofus. Unless, of course, there was a danger of plaster falling and he went all Omarosa on them...

Yes, I must get some context for this shot because it's so out of place. Why is he wearing a hard hat on QVC? This ain't construction. Don't get it.

The problem with me and thinking Stacy is the PM is that she always gives off this air of being in charge. So, her carrying a clipboard fits her.

I do think it's between her and Sandy..based on the pics. Gah. Sandy looks so much older than what she is.
NYCynthia

BWAH! I meant to comment on this too, could he look any sillier?!

The money was confusing, you're right.
Jaded Cat
Sheesh, does Maria own any regular, comfortable shoes or is her closet full of high-heeled, strappy sandals? Selling ice cream, selling who-knows-what on QVC, standing on her feet all day and she wears shoes like those in the above picture?

Girl will be having back problems in 10 years if she doesn't stop. Weight doesn't matter, it's the way they force your spine/back into unnatural positions.
txsunshine33
BWAH! I meant to comment on this too, could he look any sillier?!

The money was confusing, you're right.

What makes him look even sillier is the look of self-importance.
NYCynthia
But they're so purrrrrrty! Hee. I have to confess, I spent many years as a victim of the high heeled strappy shoe brainwashing as well. I used to sing at and host telethons in my early twenties (don't ask), and yes, I wore wildly impractical shoes. Now that I'm in my mid-30s, I don't have back problems, but I did have a much harder time than expected recovering from knee surgery after a ski accident. My doctor told me that my arches were so messed up that I probably did permanent damage to my feet and legs. In fact, the only time my feet don't hurt now is when I'm wearing heels, because the arch was somehow artificially heightened (?).
So...yeah. Practicality is a good thing sometimes, Maria.

Anyway, I went back to the original (Wednesday) promo, and the women are in fact selling "It Works!" 31 piece water activated cleaning block set, for $27.23.
The guys, however, are selling a DeLonghi Retro nonstick Panini grill with cookbook for $71.25.
That's expensive, and probably why the guys clash over price and lose in this task.

I also paused on the boardroom scene, and at least on my broadcast it was the initial boardroom, with both teams, from last week...I can tell because Pamela is 1) on the guys' side, and 2) wearing that hideous orange thing. Everyone was in the boardroom in the shot they showed.

I got the impression from that photo that it was taken right before Trump arrives to give them the task assignment...IIRC, it's the same setting as in the previews where they showed the announcement that Pamela had to switch teams

I confirmed this with my re-watch. There are a bunch of UPS trucks wherever they are, so it's either some shipping depot or more likely the QVC headquarters.
ItsJessMe
Today's Philadelphia Inquirer had a bit about this week's task. It seems like the QVC hosts are the ones doing the selling though, not the apprentices.

Donald Trump and the 13 remaining contestants on the NBC "reality" series take over QVC in West Chester on Thursday's episode (9 p.m.). The night's challenge is to select and sell a product. QVC offered conference space and 12 precious minutes of time in late May. QVC viewers at the time had no idea that the products, sold by hosts Dave King and Lena McIlwain, were affiliated with The Apprentice. The products are still a secret. The Trump-QVC love-in blossomed publicly last Tuesday, when QVC sent cameras to New York for the release of his book Trump: Think Like a Billionaire. More than 26,000 copies were sold in the half-hour, including 1,000 he autographed. QVC doesn't make out too badly. The channel will devote an hour (10 to 11 p.m. Monday) to sell the products that the contestants sold, plus the DVD set of the show's first season.

ETA - I read this again just now and in the last line it says "that the contestants sold", which contradicts the "hosts sold" comment earlier in the paragraph. So now I'm even more confused!
NYCynthia
Hmm, that's interesting. I wonder what the deal is, then, with the on-set shots of the contestants on camera?
And also...if they weren't doing the selling...then WTF exactly was there for them to do? Know what I mean? It's not like they're doing order taking, fulfilment, shipping, or...anything.
This whole task seems kinda lame-ish to me, without having seen it.
SuzyP
In the few times I have flipped by QVC/HSN and stopped to watch whatever crazy thing they were hawking, there always seems to be a host and a guest host (the creator, owner, spokesperson of the product), along with models demonstrating the product. So that would explain the QVC host as well as a few of the team members being on camera.
Bookrat
The previews I saw, the vioice says " one team will end up in the boardroom." Shot of what looks like just the guys. Trump is then shown pointing at someone who I think is Wes.The voice says, "someone will be fired." Shot of Trump saying, "you're fired."
Man, I hope this is a fakeout, and the women's team is the one which loses. (crosses fingers)

I'm guessing that Stacy must be the PM that all the women hate and makes them long for Bradford. She seems THAT bossy. I don't see Sandy that way, but maybe she's can be really bitchy and bossy too.

It would be great if the men won selling something soooo expensive and the women lost...because they are Apsux. I would love it if they bombed trying to selling their product because they can't work together to do anything.
RhondaGC
Re: Task 7--which appears to be dogwashing, above: Oh, this should be good. If the Apexiennes were above getting their hands dirty by actually waiting on tables this week (which is the only explanation I can find that makes sense of why they hired others to do it while they just stood around) how are they going to handle having to handle dirty, soapy, wet dogs? Hee hee! I kinda hope Maria and her "designer suit" and strappy high heels are still around for that one.

And the previews I have Zaprudered also show no evidence of just the men in the boardroom. So maybe the speculation above about there being more than one version is correct.

I tend to think that Smeagol is the women's PM, though, specifically because of that one shot where she's standing with the clipboard, wearing a suit. She's looking appropriately self-important and not-working.

Ah, yes, "looking self-important" and "not-working": the two most important characteristics of an Apexienne PM.

And if what SuzyP says is true, and all the teams do is choose the product that they sell (maybe) and then stand around and look pretty while someone else sells it, then I still don't get exactly how that involves any kind of business skills. I mean, I suppose there are some brains required in deciding which product to sell--do you gamble on a higher-priced item thinking you'll need to sell fewer, or go with a lower-priced one that might sell better? Other than that, it looks like there's very little ability really required. But I will be happy to be proved wrong. Perhaps there's more than goes on behind the scenes than I know.
NYCynthia

Oy, that's not at all what I saw. Weird!
Sadly, I do believe that the bitches win this week. Wonder what the hell Wes does to get fired, if your spec is true? So far, we have seen literally zero from him. (Maybe I just answered my own question, come to think of it)
MandolinViola
Regarding all the sex-spoiling going on...did it occur to anyone that both people involved in the incident(s) might be married

Since I've read in various threads (spoiler, media, individual) that it's Pamela who is getting divorced and Sandy who's now separated, that would certainly make for some interesting TV.
NYCynthia
Heh. My gut tells me that Pamela was already divorced or divorcing prior to the show.
And also, I have a feeling she has better taste than scraping the bottom a la Sandy. No pun intended with the "taste" thing.
Douggley
My gut tells me Pamela probably killed her husband for looking at her wrong - unhinged her jaw and swallowed him whole. Pamazon doesn't play around.
NYCynthia
*snerk*
goobaletta
It's more than possible that the spouses not on the show were the ones who did the cheating. Just sayin'.

My vote for the potential Mosaic bootee? I'm torn between Chris, who I think is the PM, and Andy the Builder in his hardhat.
ultrustic
I still thin APex is going to lose the next two tasks. Corporate Reshuffle only happens when one team is badly operating. If both are good, then there's no need to reshuffle. All DT would do is to let one team select a member from the other team. I think Apex is going to lose so badly the next two weeks in that they need to reshuffle that deck.

Plus, does it ever occur to anyone why that cleaning product is not selling in QVC U.S., but the panini maker is selling at the QVC website? It got to make you wonder which product really did do very well in May.
NYCynthia
does it ever occur to anyone why that cleaning product is not selling in QVC U.S., but the panini maker is selling at the QVC website?

Maybe Mr. Clean has some sort of restriction on obvious rip-offs of their products being sold domestically? Just a thought.
jillcharlie
Why, Why ,Why would the men let that inarticulate shyster , Wes, on air and not the lovely Raj who can probably sell just about anything???? Remember how cute he was at the ice cream stand??
vicesick
Look how tall Pamela is, and then look at Stacy R.

It's like the Guinness Book of World Records.

The men surely look mismatched...
RhondaGC
Wonder what the hell Wes does to get fired, if your spec is true? So far, we have seen literally zero from him.

Well, judging solely from the pictures linked above it appears that Wes is deeply involved in the operation, either as PM or, more likely, as one of the on-air people, so maybe he does something to screw up. Or maybe he is the mastermind behind choosing the Panini maker which doesn't sell well.

I also wish to see the women lose again this week. And I have a tiny gleam of hope from the fact that the same spoiler that said the women win also said they were selling steak knives, which now appears to be incorrect. So I've got my fingers crossed. (Besides, if Wes goes it blows my whole theory about Wes being the one who hooks up with Sandy. And I can't have that.)
Moodeln
And also, I have a feeling she has better taste than scraping the bottom a la Sandy. No pun intended with the "taste" thing.

Ah, but was the pun about Sandy being a big bottom-scraper intended? Ehhhh, wink wink nudge nu--

Right, then. I'll just let myself out.
Tashanir
NEW YORK -- October 5, 2004 -- In this episode which features cameos by tennis ace Anna Kournikova and legend John McEnroe (CNBC's "McEnroe"), each team first decides on a product to showcase then they must establish a price and a sales strategy. Afterwards, they select two team members to sell the product for 12 minutes live on QVC. The team with the highest gross profit during this time period wins.

Two members of "Mosaic" disagree markedly on a price point and the project manager for "Apex" attempts to bring motivation and structure to the chaos from the past two weeks. In the boardroom, one of Trump's favorites is put on the defensive and George& Carolyn expose some major weaknesses on the losing team.

"One of Trump's favorites?"
Trump has had little interaction with the men, so I think it's a far stretch for the press release to call one of the men a favorite. Who's seen enough of the footage to know that? I don't even think the guy who wrote the press release would have that kind of info. So, "favorite" to me sounds like Jennifer M.

"Attempts to bring structure to the chaos" of the Apex team. Hmmmm...attempts, as in tries but maybe fails?
goobaletta
I can't think of a Mosaic favorite, unless it's Andy the Builder. He got a pass before because Trumpy thought he had potential. Does that count as favoritism?

What blows my mind is that they only have 12 minutes. Now I'm really thinking the women do win based on the difference in the products. The panini maker is a lot more complex, odds are, to operate than some cleaning thing or other, so I would take longer to demonstrate and thus be less likely to sell as many in the same amount of time.
CousinIt
That spoiler makes me think that Apex does indeed win this one.

I'm thinking either Pamela or Jen M. is the PM for this week because of the "attemps to bring order" line, though Sandy could also be a possibility.

It's unlikely that any other weaknesses could be exposed in Team Apex or that the exposing of said weaknesses in this teamship would be even remotely suprising, which makes me think that all is not as great as it has seem in the men's team and we just haven't seen it because the men have been on a winning streak and compared to Apex they look like regular Einsteins.Just makes more sense when I think of "exposing weaknesses" in this context.

It also makes sense that if there are big differences between two mosaic members it could end with them losing.

Trump called Andy his "project', much like he did Nick, so it might be him that they mean by favorite.

If I have to see Mosaic lose the only thing that might make it slightly more bearable is watching Andy get smaked down or possible fired. If I have to see Apex win, I'm hoping it is because Pam or Jen M. manage to control the rest of the freaks and actually get them to work together.
bwaybelle
If it says that they are "exposing major weaknesses" on the losing team, I'm thinking Mosaic loses. Because the weaknesses on the Apex team are old news.

*edited because my mind isn't thinking straight*
keg411
In this episode which features cameos by tennis ace Anna Kournikova and legend John McEnroe (CNBC's "McEnroe"),

EEEEEEEE! Tennis people! Okay, Anna Kournikova sucks, but John McEnroe? I don't give two shits about his talk show but I adored his book. Sounds like this has something to do with the reward -- and I'm seriously jealous of whoever wins this one if it does.
txsunshine33
I'm sadly thinking that Mosaic does lose based on this information from the release. Exposing some major weaknesses in the losing team indeed sounds like it's a teaching moment for the men who finally lose and have to sit in the hot seat and have an analysis of their weaknesses.

This favorite person is harder. Given how much the men charged for their product, I do wonder if it's Andy's doing because he seems to be about the "big idea" -- much like Sam was (although Sam was goofy). But, I don't know if being a favorite is the same as being a "project".

It's hard to say who is a favorite because the men haven't been in the boardroom much. The only person on Apex that got praise was Jenn M. Standouts on the men's team seem to have been Kelly and Raj given they won outright. Kevin won, but only because Apex went over budget. So, this favorite thing is harder to pin down.
CousinIt
I doubt Raj is a a favorite as Trump openly dissed him in front of everybody and then made fun of him with the women of Apex because of the cane/ snazzy outfit thing.

The only person I've seen him praise, other than Jen M.and Pam, is Andy and, to me, he is also someone who is likely to make major mistakes or clash with the other members. Maybe the next Mosaic PM isn't as enthusiastic about Andy's "big ideas" as Kevin was.
txsunshine33
Yeah, I don't count Raj as a favorite in Trump's eyes either....I just noted the folk on Mosaic who actually were PMs and won flat out.

I don't recall him praising Pam...when was that?

Yep, Andy seems all about proving he belongs there and obviously his debate skills work because he's convinced the team to go after his ideas for the toy and for the million dollar giveaway.
CousinIt
In episode one Trump called Pam "impressive" (as did Andy).

Which leads to theory #2: Pam is the PM and Apex fails.
Helter Skelter
When has Trump ever praised Jen M., or even noticed her in any way?
CousinIt
Last episode Trump called Jen M. "smart" and most of the extended board room scenes in ep. 3 and 4 shows Trump being quite impressed with her answers.
