I'm certainly not the only one who remembers this show, surely? A "teen soap" back in the day, I was probably 10 or 11 when it aired. But, ah, good times. I seem to recall Sarah Michelle Gellar and Brittany Daniel starring. And, mmm, my childhood crush, Shane McDermott. Discuss!
Oops! It was Brittany Daniel, not Brittany Murphy.

I remember the commercials for it, with the swans and the light voice "Watch Swan's Crossing." It aired on an independent station on Saturday afternoons, I think. I was like 7 so I don't remember much else.

I used to wake up at 6 a.m. to watch it, after they moved it from afternoons. Man, was I pathetic :-)

If we had a topic for it, it got purged. I did the search and only this one came up. And they aired it there at 6AM? Damn, was it really not that popular?

How long was it on the air? I remember watching it after school with my little sister when I was in middle school, but I can't remember how long it lasted.
I remember when SMG first appeared on AMC we were both like 'Hey...'.

IMDB:
Swans Crossing was a short-lived half-hour serial following the lives, loves, and intrigues of twelve wealthy teenagers who stir up scandal and excitement in their small town. Among them are: Sydney Rutledge, the mayor's scheming daughter; Garrett Booth, a manipulative charmer and Sydney's blackmailing ex-boyfriend; Mila Rosnovsky, a former television star; and Neil Atwater, a young scientist who is trying to create the world's first self-propetuated rocket fuel.
It was 1992...only one season. Yes, Shane McDermott was hot! I was way too old to watch it but I did anyway.

I remember watching this show everyday back in the day. Of course I was nine so I had very little comprehension of what was actually going on. I remember that there were always a bunch off bald men lurking about and that they were evil and try to bring down the town or something. Anyone know what the deal was with them?

Oh, I used to love this show. In my 17-year-old mind, it was the greatest. I was so jealous of SMG for being so pretty and thin. And Shane McDermott, my, my, my was that boy fine. *Sigh* The good old days.

My favorite episode was when Callie had the slumber party on her submarine, and the boys managed to find a way to crash it anyway. That was also the episode where the girls played the "Guess who I'm talking about?" game, where deliciously evil Sydney (the precursor to Katherine in Cruel Intentions) read the contract that Garrett had signed stating that he was only dating Mila on orders from Sydney, and that he will always love Sydney. Good times.

Yo, that episode took place in Mila's bedroom, not Callie's sub.
Anyway, Swan's Crossing? My favorite soap opera ever. I have every episode on tape, and make it a point to watch the entire series at least once a year.
Some random favorite moments:
"Switched and birth? Me and Sandy."
"Oooh I love myself."
JT and Glory's first kiss.
Garrett and Mila's first kiss.
The Fabian window screen.
The baldies.
Barek. I loved me some Barek.
When Callie fell off the ladder.
The explosion at the 4th of July
The slumber party.
Glory's kidnapping. That was some riveting stuff as an 11 year old.
Callie's misintrepreting Sidney's fall as a suicide attempt.
The opening credits: "Don't know where I'm going/My head is feeling strange..."
Good, good stuff.

"Oooh I love myself."
I loved it when he said that! Had me giggling like the goofy 12 y/o that I was. And I only wish I had the entire series on video or DVD.
Here's something for those of us who need a brush up on who's who and what's what in SC! (That is one weird trip down memory lane!)

Glory's kidnapping. That was some riveting stuff as an 11 year old.
yeah, I know. They threw here into a laundry bag and then hoisted her up into a cargo net. I remember being so freaked out by that kidnapping.
When Callie fell off the ladder.
That was one of my favorite parts of the whole series. Barek forced her to go up the ladder, then she stepped on the rung (which you could obviously tell was cut) and she fell down, only to be caught by Jimmy.
Yes, I was (am) obsessed...why do you ask.

aw, best thing about swans cross was sarah michelle gellar. in fact, i saw so much talent that i wrote my only soap letter to an actual show, where i suggested that she would be the perfected sorased bianca. well when she finally arrived on all my children, i was thrilled. not because i thought that show listened to my letter, but i was good at casting a character (e.g. erika's daughter). now she didn't start as erika's daughter but there was no doubt in my mind that kendall hart would turn out to be erika's
also, saw swans crossing because it was filmed a block away from my house.

Tutu loves Milla
That phrase has been stuck in my mind for years! Loved how evil Sydney was and how cocky but cute Garrett was. It came on at 7am before school when I was about 15 or 16 and I never forgave my younger brother when he let me sleep through the final episode one morning.

I was in middle school when it came out. It came on at like 5pm on UPN, I think. I totally remember SMG. I remember thinking she will have a career. I liked the show but I hated it too. I liked it for the soap element. But I hated because of the soap element. It's high school for pete's sake.
SM, I used to think he was hot! Now, not so much. I totally forgot BD was on this show. I wish I had it on DVD to see if it as cheesy as I remember.

I had a Swan's Crossing doll/action figure that I absolutely loved and always used (Sarah Michelle Gellar's character, and it had riding gear for an outfit). I remember SC and watching it, but since I was so young the plots have been blocked out in my memory. I wish they'd put it on DVD.

I thought I'd pop in and say hello to everyone. I'm glad to see I'm not the only person who remembers this show, and I'm certainly glad to see that I'm not the only person that looooved it. I was 13 when this series began, and I was more or less obsessed with it all summer (I believe I was also obsessed with an Australian soap called "Paradise Beach" (featuring the future Jax on GH!) around this time). I had the obligatory crush on Garrett (Shane McDermott), I really wanted to be Sydney (SMG), and I couldn't stand Mila (mainly because she was always getting in Sydney's way). I was one of the luckier ones, I guess, because the show aired at 5 p.m. where I lived (I could also catch it on another station at 2:30 or so if I couldn't stand to wait until 5), and it definitely aired in the summertime, so I didn't have to worry about missing episodes because of school.
I remember being SO upset that the series ended the way it did. I was so crushed when Garrett took Mila (instead of Sydney) to Swan's after the big baseball game, and I spent the rest of the series wanting Garrett and Sydney to hook up again. I firmly believed that when they ended the season with the words, "To be continued...let us hear from you!" that they were asking fans to let them know what they wanted to see on the second season. It never occurred to me that the show wasn't coming back.
I have a few episodes on tape, but they are of really poor quality and are all scattered around somewhere in my parents house. I can't believe that all these years later I can still sing the theme song. For many years afterward, I could reenact scenes as well, but apparently I can no longer do that.

Welcome deinira!
I still love this show, and have actually spent the last few weeks re-reading some of the fanfiction on Mary's sight at
Miss Swan's Swans Crossing Page.
Some of the stories are really good, if you swing by make sure you check out the following, which in my opinion, are some of the best: WARNING: some of these are epic:
Swans Crossing: The Return
Swans Crossing: 1998 Addie Butard's wonderful trilogy:
*
Senior Year
*New Beginnings
*GenerationsDoug Keppler's
Swans Crossing USAand so on. If you find one you really like, let us know which one to read. I belong to a yahoo group with a lot of the authors, and I'm sure they would be thrilled to know their works are still being read. On a related note, there are two stories I began at the very bottom of the Miss Swan page, I'm currently working on updating them.

My memories of this show are as follows:
1) The ultra annoying way that they prevented anyone from kissing. They would have a couple about to kiss, and then they would have a third party interrupt. I swear there may have been like two completed kisses in the entire show's run.
2) The Baldies. Hilariously inept.
3) The penultimate episode, wherein the butler comes skidding into the auto shop on that scooter, and he says something along the lines of "It just got away from me." and Barek says "This is the place for runaway skateboards..." and then he grabs the scooter and finishes "and runaway imaginations." and then they get the freezeframe to end the episode of Callie, Jimmy and Sasha looking all suspicious. I don't know why that stuck in my head, but it did.

Swans Crossing S dance *sigh*
To this day, my sister and I only need say "Swan's Crossing" to each other and then we bust out in the dance. It doesn't matter where we are. We try not doing at funerals, however.
This is proably a stupid question, but is this show available for sale anywhere? I would love to own the whole series.
I too am ecstatic that others remember this show.

So I am one of the fortunate ones who has this entire series on tape, thanks to a wonderful person I met back in the early days of writing my SC fanfiction. I basically stopped writing when I went to college and just never found the time to get back into it, since I met my now husband, got a job, etc. I had my tapes stashed away and probably hadn't watched them in 7 or 8 years.
My husband started working nights, so I've been home by myself a lot lately, so I dragged out my old Swans Crossing tapes and started watching them.
Man, what a riot. I've been wanting to write down some of my observations about the series watching it consecutively again after not seeing it for a long time, and I thought, "I bet TWoP has a forum!"
First off, the fashion is starting to look really dated. Poor Callie in her high-waisted jeans and Sydney's ultra-teased hair. And of course Sandy rocking the baby-dolls, bike-shorts and Doc Martens.
I'm also wondering what the deal is with the sets. I really like the older episodes because they venture outdoors- to a park, the cliffs, a town square in the first episode, etc. I think the last outdoor shot we ever get is Glory walking through a park while she's being watched. Why did they all of a sudden stop shooting outdoors, do you think? It's kind of distracting watching it consecutively like this, because the outdoor sets offered a sense of realism that goes away in later episodes.
Another thing I never noticed watching this show obsessively in the 90s was the timing of the events. Four or five episodes might pass between big events, but really only a day is supposed to have passed. Which doesn't make a lot of sense when it the timeline works like this:
-Baseball game, Sydney doesn't walk off field with Garrett, so he goes off with Mila. She has Nancy spend the night, they scheme.
-Slumber party- this actually happens the day after the baseball game
-The dance- I think this is supposed to be just two days after the slumber party. Garrett gets grounded, helps his dad, comes up with the switched at birth plot, then gets off for good behavior and gets to go to the dance, all in one day.
-It also seems like Glory gets kidnapped, and then the very next day Neil goes into a coma, and then comes right out of it.
I just never noticed this the first few times I've watched the show.
Anyway, I'm having so much fun reliving this silly but so unique show!
Darn

Never having watched SC, I'd say budgetary reasons. Sunset Beach started with a lot of outdoor scenes but that inflated the budget and they eventually cut back on them.

Does anyone remember that song that one of the characters (the more earnest, not SMG girl) supposedly wrote and performed?

SLourdes: good to see you again! You were one the old school SC MSN group, weren't you? Back when we actually posted several times each day? LOL. Long time ago.
Anyways, I had this dream the other night that Garrett and Jimmy (the characters, not the actors) were the bad guys on Veronica Mars (shown from inside the car from Supernatural). I woke up and for an hour tried to figure out how to get my UPN back (the cable company switched it for WB, and I'm in withdrawl for VM). It took a while for me to realize it was just a dream and not an actual preview.

Two years since my last post here...and I've still managed to continue my yearly viewing of the series. I actually just bought a DVD Recorder, so this year, the viewing will also serve as a DVD back-up.
Oh man...I think the one thing I regret not being able to see the most was the Callie/Sidney emerging friendship.
And word to whoever mentioned the kissing thing. I think the worst offense was when JT and Glory were about to kiss at the post-crashed slumber party, and then the camera panned down to the giant teddy bear. Or when JT and Glory were about to kiss (again) at the hospital in front of Neil while he was in his coma and he woke up and saw them. The absolute hurt in his eyes...oh man, Neil loved him some JT.
Garrett was hot, of course, but I was kind of a Jimmy fan myself.
My vote for most under-rated character? Nancy. We never really saw much of her as anything other than one of Sidney's bitches. I would have liked to seen her step up or get a romance or something. She kind of liked Jimmy, but he was never gonna go for her. Oh, speaking of Jimmy and Nancy..I loved her fantasy of serving him a hamburger. Folding the cheese in. Cutting it in half. Scary truth: I adopted that way of serving my own hamburger for years.
Love this show.

Swans Crossing was the ONLY reason I started watching Buffy -- for SMG. Wouldn't never gotten into the vamp genre otherwise -- I scare too easy. For that, I am grateful.
(That and... well, I'm extremely grateful for the hilarious opening dance sequence, where they put all the boys/poorer dancers in the back, and you can very briefly see Shane McDermott in the very back, about six beats behind everybody else and laughing his ass off. I will never forget that. Ahh. Good times.)

Good lord how stupid was this show???? Yet like all of you, I ached to not miss a second! The super duper dramatics of this show were WAY BEHIND the time and I think that's why you HAD to watch it...you were embarrased for the actors as though you were watching your highschool play and not a television show....LMAO that "Mila" song her mom sang for her, and that one episode where her birthday cake kept spinning around and falling apart...I can't be the only one who remembers that!!!!

"Gotta grow up, gotta grow up sometime" Didn't Sydney's mom kick her out and she slept on a park bench and woke up with salamanders in her hair? Even then, Sarah Michelle was fearless.
