...or Entercon II: The Wrath of TWoP. Both are lis' ideas and both are excellent.

Twoppers, start your planning!
belsum
Ok, here's my agenda: 10/29/04 5:00pm go to wedding in Las Vegas Hilton. Then attend reception catered by Quark's. Smoke too many cigarettes.

10/30/04 Hope to meet up with TWoPpers somewhere for something.

If you're curious, here's the bride and groom.
WARNING: The bride's blog is not suitable for all ages.

Ah....

Edited after reading Meet Market thread.

I'll try to post this again...

I like the October date for everyone- it gives us all a chance to save our pennies and clear our schedules. Also, I think halloween in Vegas sounds like a good time.

This idea came up because the Borg Invasion 4D attraction will be opening at the Las Vegas Hilton on March 18th. Now, I am entered in a contest to be there on opening day, but chances are good I won't win, so an organized event like this sounds like the next best thing! (hee)
Gilmel
This is probably moot at this point since October seems pretty much decided on already, but would it be possible to do this earlier in the year when more of us actually can clear our schedules? For people, like me, who teach or others who are in school, our days off are already scheduled: summer, Christmas, and spring breaks and some random three day weekends.

Could we do this sometime in the summer, instead? Maybe July 4th weekend (three day weekend in the U.S.) or maybe early August before semester folk start heading back? That would still give people plenty of time to save up and plan their schedules.

Vegas is a place that is close enough for me to get to and afford, unlike Boston, and I will come to this if it is at a time when I can, but even a relatively short plane trip over an ordinary weekend is just not feasible for me during the school year. If I'm the only person October poses a problem for, I understand. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one.
keckler
Actually, if Gilmel hadn't said anything, I wouldn't have either because I didn't want to be the lone voice. However, I have a Chicago wedding to go to in October and the school year is difficult for us as well.
starri
Personally, it's easier for me to get time off in the fall, and I'd really like to go, especially since I couldn't go to Boston. But I don't think it's hard for me to get time off in the summer either. I'm just excited for face time with all of you, and having never been to Vegas myself...

If we're going for a summer date, I would vote against July 4th, since that'll be even more crowded and probably more expensive, but I'll bow to the majority on that one.
Gilmel
I just suggested the 4th because it's a three day weekend this year. So no need for that date on my end.
starri
Gotcha. If everyone wants to do it, I'll go along, it's just not my preference.

Now, where do we want to stay?
keckler
I've stayed at the Aladdin and the Paris -- they're both nice and subject to great deals.
starri
Sounds good. I assume we want something on the Strip.

I'm cool with anything that's not Circus, Circus. Because clowns and I don't mix.
keckler
Both on the strip, both nice.
akg
As long as we go after the spring (~april), I can make time. I've stayed at the Luxor and MGM. Both were nice but I wasn't in charge of travel arrangements so I'm not sure why they were chosen.
belsum
I sure hope you guys change your minds back to October. Between a wedding in Jamaica in May and this wedding in Vegas in October, there's no way I can afford an additional trip anywhere this year.
starri
Anyone up for a massage at the Canyon Ranch in the Venetian while we're Borging it up?
nqllisi
Oooh, 'spensive. Sounds good!

I don't have a preference regarding the date, by the way.
starri
Boss, would it be possible to have a poll about the date?
thingamajig
I'm not going, because I hate you all. No wait, scratch that, I hate you all because there's no way I'd be able to go, and I'm totally jealous.
keckler
The Aladdin has great spa facilities -- that's where I got my hot rocks massage last year.

We could, starri, but I'm afraid the results could get really skewed if random people happening by the forums just decide to vote for no reason.

Let's just start with people weighing in as Pro-October or Pre-October.

I'm Pre-October.
akg
I don't care either way at the moment but I do vote for starting a fund to cover thinga's airfare.
Cleo256
I'm not sure yet what my vacation schedule is going to be this year. I'll let you all decide when and where and then come if I can make it.
keckler
Oh, for those of you in the Seattle greater area, Mathra and I are hoping to go up to the islands this summer/spring and we might stop in the city to seem my great uncle, who just turned 100.
thingamajig
Aw, that's sweet, akg. Really it's more an issue of a lot of commitments and potential commitments coming up this year. Though maybe I could convince Mr. thinga that the big vacation he wants to take this year should be to Vegas?
Gilmel
I'm pre October (and post mid-June).
Gytha Ogg
I'm pro-post-October, because I like to make trouble.

Ok, partly that, but also because Mr. Ogg & I have been talking about a Vegas trip for our anniversary, in late November. We've even joked about renewing our vows Trek-style.

But cf. Gilmel re: needs-of-the-many-cakes.
kgoklahoma
I'm cool either way. My only request is not the first week of any month - I work in accounting and that's our closing schedule.
PoliticGeek Pro
I'm not going, because I hate you all. No wait, scratch that, I hate you all because there's no way I'd be able to go, and I'm totally jealous.

What Thinga said. :-)

(PGPfamily's previously announced possible US vacation and Disney-world trip is about as well-funded as Mr. Bush's Mars mission: It will only serve to pump up the dedicit, and it sure won't happen this year....)
starri
Sorry for not casting my vote earlier, but I'm in for either.
LadyBunbury
Terrible's is relatively cheap, and it's on the strip, although not all that near any of the big, big things like the Paris or the Venetian ... We got in for a promotional rate this December at $9.99 a night, which is jaw-dropping. We also had a better experince there than we did at the MGM Grand. My stepmother contends she liked it even better than the Rio, but I had no problems with the Rio. My dad liked the Rio a lot, too, but I think that's because he got comped there with his gambler-ness.

However, I'm broker than a broke, broke thing, the schoolyear's impossible and my dad would be heartbroken if I went to Las Vegas without him, so I probably won't be turning up no matter when it is. ;-)
Belchimaera
Here's a little teaser for the Borg ride!
Gilmel
The topic's been stagnant for a while, so I guess everyone who is going to vote has voted?

I tallied up the results so far:
  • pre-October: 2
  • pro-October: 0
  • post-October: 1
  • anytime: 4
I didn't count people who said they weren't sure yet, or people who said they couldn't come no matter when.

Did I miss anyone, or does anyone else want to vote? If not, do we want to decide on a month or wait?
ciscokidinsf
Alright, I'm in...( secretly wondering how much fun will keckler be while drunk!) But seriously, the summer (June-July,August)works much better for me.

Vegas baby! (Its like Risa, but without annoying plots)
belsum
Silly Gilmel, of course I'm pro-October! I'll be there anyway for the wedding!

In other news, I just found out tickets to the Borg ride are part of the wedding package. YAY!!!
Gilmel
Oh, oops! Looks like I neglected page one when I was tallying. Sorry! So now:
  • pre-October: 3
  • pro-October: 1
  • post-October: 1
  • anytime: 4
I like lists. They're orderly. :)
keckler
Oh, my -- I'm so much fun drunk! I make Dr. Mathra sing "Ode to Joy" in German until a vein pops out of his forehead. He's fun drunk too. And loud -- the boy's got no problem with emoting.
keckler
There's going to be a massive Trek Convention at the end of July... Thursday - Sunday
July 29 - August 1, 2004 (to be precise).
Gilmel
So a crowded, crazy time we'd want to avoid? Or a fun, Trekkies-take-over-Vegas time we'd want to join?
keckler
I'm thinking the latter.
starri
I think so too. I'm with the majority opinion on this, so whatever works.
Gilmel
*gasp* starri! You were the one who wanted to avoid July 4th because of the crowds. Trekkie crowds are different, no? Hee.
kgoklahoma
That would be good for me too. I'll start saving my pennies.
starri
Trekkie crowds are different, no?

I suppose those are kindred spirits and all.

Also, I've never been to a convention, so that's part of the appeal.
akg
Is there any way we could convince Glark to design us a t-shirt or will we all be going in costume?
kgoklahoma
Oooh, oooh, oooh - a Glark-designed T-shirt! I vote for that!
Dane
Ooh, August 1 is my birthday ... think of all the drunken, Trekkie fun I could have! I'll do my best to be there.
dalek
July 31st is my birthday, so I could justify it as a birthday rpesent to myself. Plus I've got more vacation time this year than I thought I would, so I'm pretty sure I could make it and still make all my other commitments like weddings and stuff.
nelamm
July 31st is my birthday too! OK, I gotta work on this...
nqllisi
Hmmmm. My summer vacation is already booked for the first full week of July, so I don't know if I'll have fundage for a late July boondoggle to Vegas. I will have to see.
PrettyButterfly
I'm insanely jealous. I would sell my soul to be there with you all.

However, I did mention to my mother that I was thinking of going on holiday during summer. She asked where and I said Vegas. (testing the waters for an overreaction) Her response? Bring me back a mug. Thats practically permission. Hmmm, I can dream I suppose.
ciscokidinsf
So what's the deal-io y'all? Any other updates for our BorgCon this summer? Is the place/Time already set in stone? I just want to know. It has been a looong while since we brought it up... and daylight's burning.

(or if ENT gets cancelled, does it mean we will go protest at the Paramount Network instead? Just saying.)
