I had a lot of favorites in just this one episode:
"This is worse than being in the jungle"--a somewhat tossed out shout-out, should actually be the theme of this show. :-) (one of the women said this--not sure which)
"The American Dream"--Sam the Sham
"How do you clean a house like this?"--said to Donald's arm-candy girlfriend
"We have people."--Arm Candy response.
"Ultimately whoever wins is going to be dealing a lot with me... and I don't want to deal with an idiot. What's easier than selling Lemonade?"--grumpy old V.P.
"Sales is not my Forté"--aka, the sound of David kissing his own ass goodbye.

I could have sworn that Ereka said "She's trying to make me her prag, just like she did to Tammy."
Which would have been the greatest line in reality television ever.

Nobody could call it a "favorite" but in terms of plot importance Ereka saying to Omarosa "you're calling the kettle black" has to be included. Obviously this is a minor derivative of "the pot calling the kettle black", with Omarosa being cast as the pot and Ereka casting herself as the kettle. Racial undertones or not (being debated elsewhere on the site--they don't seem to fit here), it was definitely a turning point.
But wow, those other quotes from this epi. were mostly crack ups. Also, the way the blond Viceroy put Sam on the spot -- "I think you are fighting for your life" was good--mostly for the way she said it as opposed to it being a great or unique quote though.

That was the smartest thing anyone has said on this show. I totally plan to add it to my phrasebook as well.
I don't have the exact wording but I about died when Trump told Sam everyone hates him. Sam says "I don't think they do." And Trump says, "yes, they do." And Sam instantly agrees. "Ok, they do."

I'm pretty sure the word was actually "prey" not "prag." But if Omarosa starts wearing a little cap on her head, I'll know you were right.

Better than the Kwame to Sam "respect" line was the disconnect with Sam and Trump over the respect phrase.
I cued up the recording. Here are the actual words:
Sam (as a complaint): I have not earned the full respect of everyone at this table.
The Donald: That's for sure. I would say that's true. That's probably the most true statement you've made.
Sam: And I can't lead until I have that respect.
The Donald: You have to get the respect.
Sam: I do.
Think about this. Sam and Donald are having 180 degree different interpretations of the exact same words.
Sam hears:
Sam (as a complaint): I have not earned the full respect of everyone at this table. <Sam adds in his head-AND I DESERVE IT>
The Donald: That's for sure. I would say that's true. <Sam in his head-OH DONALD IS AGREEING THAT I DESERVE IT> That's probably the most true statement you've made.
Sam: And I can't lead until I have that respect. <Sam in his head--GEE DONALD IS BUYING THIS!>
The Donald: You have to get the respect. <Sam in his head--HE UNDERSTANDS ITS NOT MY FAULT!>
Sam: I do.
Donald hears:
Sam (as a complaint): I have not earned the full respect of everyone at this table. <Donald in his head--YOU BET YOU HAVEN'T YOU WHINER.>
The Donald: That's for sure. I would say that's true. <Donald in his head--YOU HAVEN'T DONE A THING TO EARN IT>That's probably the most true statement you've made.
Sam: And I can't lead until I have that respect. <Donald in his head--THAT'S RIGHT LOSER, YOU HAVEN'T BEEN LEADING YET>
The Donald: You have to get the respect. <Donald in his head--ANYONE HAS TO HAVE RESPECT TO LEAD, MORON.>
Sam: I do.
Then Viceroy Carolyn chimes in and pounds it home to mentally deficient Sam what Donald actually means, by explaining to Sam that the respect needed has yet to be earned. Sam looks truly surprised--he was assuming it was his due and it's absense caused the problems in the first place.

Kromm, I think your translations are exactly on target. Sam just doesn't get it. He thinks respect is something you get -- with a little bow on top -- not something you earn. And he honestly doesn't see how his freakouts and his interminable football analogies while other people are trying to actually get work done can contribute to his not having that respect. As far as he's concerned, if he doesn't get respect, it's everyone else's fault for not giving it to him.
But, having rewatched the last episode (I am so MB's bitch), Sam's glare at the end now looks much more like someone trying not to cry than like a psycho-stare. It feeds into that translation -- Sam really never saw it coming.

Request for info: I was typing up an interview a reporter did with Carolyn and the reporter kept insisting that there was a recent episode where Carolyn criticized Heidi for attacking other women but laying off the men. Carolyn insisted she would never make such an observation (she feels she generally avoids the gender issue) and the reporter, despite her enthusiastic claims, did such a brilliant job of mixing up the episodes and what happened where and not being able to the exact quote or the situation that she's no longer a reliable narrator. I can't remember this, either; anyone?
RhondaGC
Mar 17, 2004 @ 4:35 pm
Well, I don't know Dusty. I certainly can't recall Carolyn saying something like that to Heidi, or to anyone else. Nor do I think she would say it. It did remind me, though, of something Heidi said about Carolyn in the recent TV Guide online interview (the link is posted on page 56 of the Media thread). In it she basically accuses Carolyn of being tough on the women in the boardroom but never taking any men to task. She interprets this as being a result of the fact that Carolyn hates women, or some other such nonsense.
Maybe the reporter, she was as unreliable as you indicate, simply got her stories mixed up?
And to add a quote (or rather a paraphrase):
Can't remember if it was last week or the week before when after firing the person in the BR TD turned to the Viceroys and said something like, "That was good, huh?" to which Carolyn responded (I believe) in some vaguely affirmative fashion and George just gave a very funny non-committal, "Eh." Hee. George so rocks.

OK, I think I had conflated two different incidents in my mind. On tonight's ep Trump said, "That was good, huh?" and Carolyn said something like "yeah" and George was heard (but not seen) saying "I loved it!" Hee.
I'm pretty sure there was some other week, though, which ended with George saying "Eh." I'll have to check the recaps and find out which one it was.

I don't remember this at all. The only remark remotely close was DT questioning Carolyn's critique of Heidi as being a "woman on woman thing". IIRC Heidi has always been sassy/fiesty with both sexes and I really doubt that Carolyn would make a false accusation. Before last week Carolyn rarely said more than 2 or 3 words!

Thanks for the help, guys. That seems more reasonable than what the reporter suggested. I just didn't remember anything like that at all, but she was really forcing it. Even after Carolyn's husband went off and doublechecked the episode she had in mind, she kept insisting she'd seen it somewhere.
