Re Jen's website, this cracked me up:
Princeton University, one of the top universities in the world.
Uh, DUH...is it that obscure an institution of higher learning that it needs to have that qualifier in there?
I found her website to be really sterile and boring...almost as if it were a "tribute page" created by a stranger reciting facts about Jen, instead of a page created by the woman herself. Everything on there relates back to the show - photos, etc. Troy had set the bar pretty high, but he showed that you can have FUN with your website and
humanize yourself while making a good case for yourself professionally. (And without having
too much fun with it and looking like a nut.)
Reading thru her bio also made Sandy's comments hit home - honor society this, Ivy League that. Not that there's anything wrong with amassing these credentials, but there's very little "risk" going on.

ITA, but what stikes me is the unabashed pretentiousness of Jen's website. The way her resume reads, it just seems so strange that she decided to go on a TV show to get a job with the Trump organization or any other. It should have been a fairly easy transition to the corporate world for her, with her Ivy League network and corporate looks. She could have applied for a position the conventional way, by using a headhunter. Ok, so maybe she wouldn't get to "head a division" right off the bat, but I'm still not so sure Bill Rancic is actually doing that. Then again, Kelly's resume is a very good one, with arguably more relevance to Trump's organization. It'll be lawyer vs. lawyer this Thursday night. Let the arguing begin.

Regis Philbin? Are you fucking kidding me?! How does that make the reunion show must-see tv? Why are we bringing back She Whom I Refuse To Name? Sigh. I'm hating this reunion show already. And isn't Regis on ABC?

As one of the few Nick fans rooting for him to go all the way last season, it is kind of funny to see more people appreciating Nick. Yes, Nick was sometimes self-absorbed, but he wasn't mean, and he didn't gloat about the failures of the PM's on his task the way this bunch does. He seems to be in his element now, where he has a day job that pays the bills that lets him show up and talk to bunches of people, which he seems to enjoy, and allows him to do bit acting jobs on the side, and show up at the occasional public event.
I always thought he was hysterical in his confessionals, because I never thought he was taking himself too seriously.

I'm guessing this should be in the media thread. Jen's law firm, Clifford Chance, is throwing a finale party at the firm's office in NYC on Thursday from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. NBC will be filiming at the party. All Clifford Chance lawyers and paralegals were invited.

EXCERPT: Chris Webber is upset by the way he is .. portrayed ... .. seemed to be backtracking out of a commitment to serve as MC of a charity basketball game that Jen is running .. Webber says that he never agreed to appear at the tournament or on the show, and that the producers are simply using his name to drum up interest. Webber also says that his lawyers are considering legal action. (Hey, Jen's a lawyer, maybe Webber should hire her.) From the ABC article:
Trump said Perdew was "smart and tough" while Massey is "smart and manipulative." Trump will base his decision on how Massey and Perdew act under the pressure of the live audience.
At least one of Trump's friends will definitely be there. Daytime talk-show host Regis Philbin will co-host.
And despite his bravado, even The Donald acknowledged he's a little nervous about the live finale.
"It's going before 30 million people live. It's three hours live," said Trump. "I don't do live TV for a living. I build buildings for a living."
A few comments:
- interesting how Trump describes Jen as manipulative, not Kelly, when that was the word Jen chose to describe Kelly
- how can the finale be live for 3 hours? At least an hour will be the task itself, right? I can see the boardroom being live, but not 3 hours. Methinks Trumpy exaggerates.
- interesting that he's waiting to see how they hold up to a live audience. I don't really see that throwing either of them off.

The Apprentice 4 at the Trump OrganizationHas the annual salary been lowered? It says the job pays "up to $200K." I thought the award was always $250K? Maybe Trump's casino problems and having to hire so many new apprenctices are cutting into his cash flow? Or maybe this is "after tax" pay? I somehow doubt that, so I'll go with the cash flow problems.
It also says they're looking for a candidate with "mid to senior level" experience. Does this mean no more candidates of the likes of Andy? What is an apprentice if not, in some respects at least, a "beginner"?

From a chatty polo magazine/ezine I googled at
http://www.sidelinesnews.com/1623/pAsides.html (very minor spoilers included):
Greenwich Polo Club served as the set for a new chapter of NBC’s hit show "The Apprentice." "The Genworth Financial Trump Polo Cup," a fund-raiser for the Alzheimer Association featuring former Greenwich resident Donald Trump and his entourage, was held at Peter Brant’s polo grounds.. After the match was taped,
a silent auction was held along with a live performance by the legendary Tony Bennett. Seen in the crowd were the Hazen sisters — Greenwich residents Amy Spaeth, Lynne Morell, Lisa Davies and Mimi Burke of Rye, N.Y.; Katy Massam, Liz Paradise, Tracy Stetler, Susan Arturi, Stamford resident Karen Meizels and Deborah Larsson of Alta Restaurant in Greenwich. Note . . . If one of Trump’s apprentices is responsible for the invitation, he made a spelling error, and chances are — "He’s Fired!!"

'Apprentice' getting old?Nine months ago, the guy who writes this column decided to figure out why "The Apprentice" was the great cultural phenom of the moment, and he reliably cooked up several reasons: Americans' fascination with wealth, economically uncertain times, Donald Trump's hair and so on.
It was a bold, exciting, original, compelling column, full of many startling insights and observations, such as the fact that we Americans love hype and self-promotion, particularly when gilded by tall buildings, nice yachts, beautiful fiancees, helicopters, casinos and money, money, money.
Anyway, on the day of "Apprentice II's" three-hour finale (WNBC/4, 8-11 p.m.), the guy who writes this column would like to offer a brief amendment to that earlier piece:
Never mind.

I caught part of The Today Show interview with Trump and the 16 firees. I have to say that Katie Couric was funny and bitchy at the same time, and I appreciated it. She asked a couple of tough questions and got in some digs, smiling that smile of hers all the while. She took an extra-hard jab at Ivana for dropping her skirt.
Stacy R. tried to deflect Katie's questions about why the women came off looking so bad by saying that they really all got along in the end, it was just due to the competitiveness in the suite that made it look like they all hated each other. Maybe some of them do like each other, but I don't buy that all those women are now friends (or all the men, for that matter).
Katie asked if anyone was sorry they had participated in the show, and Stacie J. spoke up for herself quite nicely, repeating what I've heard her say before, that she didn't expect to be slandered on national TV, and that the decisions weren't based upon merit. Trump looked like he wasn't thrilled at her comments, but did say that Stacie wasn't crazy at all.
Jennifer C. mentioned losing her job, but blathered on about the glass being half full and tried to put a good spin on the experience. She mentioned having some offers, I think in some show business capacity.
Donald's hair looked even worse than usual! Melania must have fallen down on the job by letting him come on national TV looking like that. I can't begin to describe it fully, but the comb over effect was even more obvious than usual, and the back was ruffled up and messy. Just horrid.
He said one thing which I thought was uncalled for: that going into the final round last season he had already decided on Bill. That may be true, but I think he really said it as a dig at Kwame - maybe because Kwame is doing so well without him. Otherwise, why mention it? He says that he is totally undecided about who the winner will be tonight, which I personally think is crap. Since the tasks have been completed, what else does he need on which to base his opinion? I think he is just trying to keep viewers guessing.
One very interesting thing was that when Katie asked who was rooting for Kelly, I think only about 4 or 5 hands were raised. When she asked the same about Jennifer, I think almost all of the others raised their hands. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong about the numbers.
I had to leave just as the firees were asking questions of DT. Elizabeth asked about the improper and proper use of employing sex to sell. I didn't hear his answer, or any of the other questions. Maybe someone can fill me in on what else happened in the rest of the interview.

I liked how DT turned the sex sells question around on Katie, pointing out the outfit she was wearing (as usual, a short skirt, bare legs, and fuck-me shoes) in response to her lecturing the women about using sex to sell. Heh.
ETA:
Here's a good synopsis of the exchange from
colagirl, posted in the
Today Show thread:
She had been going on and on about how sexuality in the business world is portrayed on "The Apprentice," and how it was a poor example for her daughters, blah, blah, blah, when Donald said, "Katie - why don't you have a longer skirt on then?" (She had on one of her usual shorter skirts, no or very sheer hose, and high heels.) Very lamely, she responded, "well, that's the style now." It was a great moment, really, that knocked her down a few pegs.

I just read a companion article on CNNMoney.com where they interview Donald Trump and he says, among other things, that he had pretty much decided on Bill as the winner before the finale.
I think that's shameful. If he'd clearly thought Bill was better than Kwame, why the need for the finale at all? In fact, why base The Apprentice on performance? Why not just have Trump pick whoever kisses his ass the best and be done with it? I wonder how Kwame felt reading that he basically had no chance.

Sandy Ferreira: Well, let me give you a little insight: That final boardroom, once Kevin got fired, was four hours long. Trump dismissed us — Kelly, Jen and myself — into the lobby area three times because he could not make a decision. Essentially, Carolyn and George were encouraging Trump to fire Jen and bring me into the final two. That was the first time that [viewers] never saw Mr. Trump ask George and Carolyn their opinion, because it wasn't convenient for the producers to show it. So when people are like, "Why didn't you defend yourself?"...I didn't think I had to. I was relying on my performance from the past 14 weeks to advance me, not a screaming match.
I'm surprised at how quickly DT dispensed with Kevin. Was it
that much of a no-brainer? It sounds like the
real battle was deciding between Sandy or Jen, with DT pulling for Jen and George&Carolyn pulling for Sandy. You could tell that George&Carolyn were not happy with Jen, and the one snippet that they did show in the Yahoo extra clips was that of George arguing for Sandy. I think Carolyn's head will explode if Jen gets hired tonight (which looks inevitable).
Oh, and that pic of Bill posted upthread was ghastly! Did he get new plates for his teeth? He looks really horsey now. And those eye brows.... eww..... eww.....
