Had relations? Is it 1958? This made me laugh out loud. I guess the image of Katrina fudging the terminology and using "relations" in an attempt to sound classy just cracks my shit up. It's s.e.x. Katrina. Say it with me.
It just sounds to me like she has watched The Nutty Professor too many times.

What in the world is Katrina trying to accomplish by smearing Amy?
Display a complete lack of understanding of public relations? Destroy her own career? Create a time warp back to the 1950s? Seriously, I wonder if her latter-day Puritanism is a function of having been involved with her fiance since she was 15 and both secretly desiring and fearing a greater breadth of experience with other men. Which she sees in Amy. And she's not getting that no one cares. Except her.

Katty-rina. You lost. You are a loser in every sense of the word. Get over it and learn to live with it. Your rage at not being the belle of the ball? Very junior high school. You sound every bit like the sore loser that you are.
The core of jealousy and pettiness runs quite deep with this one. That's about the only thing about her that could be remotely described as deep. I'm no yoooge fan of Amy, but Katty takes the cake. It's not even as if she does her first or second post-boot interview, realizes how horrible she comes off, and changes her tone. No, just more bitchiness and excuses. And again, with the talk of being "casted!"
Ugh. Just ugh.

Personally I am tired of these post-firing interviews. First, Heidi disses on Carolyn. Now the women are out for each other. Damn Omarosa for making me sympathetic towards Ereka! Damn Katrina for making me sympathetic towards Amy! Not a big fan of any of the women, and I hate feeling bad for any of them. (Amy lost me at her "don't hate me because I'm beautiful" comments golf course scolding by DT and Carolyn, and she has become increasingly annoying in the latest episodes.)
Say what you will be Sam or Bowie, but they NEVER slammed the other men.

Based on Ereka's website posting stating that the FHM spread was due in 2004, and based on Amy's trickling of interviews.....I'm getting the feeling she gets booted tomorrow night.
The May 2004 FHM spread issue drops here sometime in the next week. Definitely by next Tuesday. And by that time, if Amy gets booted tomorrow, she'll be able to do press about the spread for the magazine, since she would have been fired before it hit newsstands.
Just a guess, of course. In this month's Elle, Katrina and Omaorsa were quoted in a spread about 8 successful women and how they made it to the top. Of course, Kat and O weren't named one of the 8, but they were given little sidebar slots to talk about.
Kats response to the query " A Good Apprentice Should Never...."
"A good apprentice should never take criticism personally. Men don't. It's not personal, it's business! Learn to diferentiate or it will lead to your downfall., fast.
Omarosa's response....
"A good apprentice should never get caught sleeping on the job.; be disloyal-loyalty is a true indicator of character; look to a fellow competitor for a compliment..."
Ereka's website caid that she was going to be featured in the June issue of Elle. I wonder if she meant this same issue that Kat and O were in. Because by June (with the issue hitting the stands in early May) I would think the hoopla for all of them would be over. Waaay over. Hmmm...wonder if Ereka got the Manalo spiked boot out of this issue in favor of Katrina....

George and Carolyn on the Tonight show:
Jay joked about Carolyn looking sexy... but she did. She was in your basic LBD (little black dress). She's not got much in the cleavage department, but has nice legs and decent shoulders. And her hair is longer, and much better shaped.
Jay made a squicky comment asking Carolyn if she had a brass pole at home, but George kind of got a kick out of it.
George and Carolyn have obviously done quite a few interviews together by now--they seem quite comfortable together and have good comic timing off each other.
Carolyn (surprise!) revealed some amount of dislike for Omarosa. In fact she recalled with amazement that it was the Tonight Show where Omarosa claimed Carolyn was afraid of her. Jay recalled Oma as "very nice backstage" but quite unpleasant in front of the camera.

I believe Carolyn said Omarosa wasn't credible. Hee. I love Carolyn. She did look smoking. I was shocked to see her shoulders and her thighs.
George was snarking on David Aquette's over-the-top suit (was that redudant?) and said that the true Apprentices was the suit salesman.
Jay's an ass, but I guess that's to be expected.

My only complaint about her dress was that it was so loose fitting--it seemed to hang off her like a paper bag. Yes, the length and the off-the-shoulders thing looked good on her, but it would have been even better if it had been more fitted. Maybe she's not comfortable in form-fitting clothes (although I'm pretty sure a couple of suits we've seen her in were more curve-hugging than that dress).
And George seems like quite the cut-up. He was actually pretty funny. And his line about the winner of the Apprentice being the guy who sold the suit to David Arquette? Genuinely funny. Even Jay was laughing.
Also loved it when George said that after the first task he wanted to fire the whole lot of them (I think he was referring just to the men, but I'm not sure) and bring in a new crew. Hee! He specifically mentioned the stupid things they did like the Fulton Fish Market faux pas, idiot-David (although he did not call him by name) chasing people down the street, and Sam trying to sell a man a cup of lemonade for $1,000. Then, Carolyn backed him up on how unimpressed they were from the get-go.

Damn! I thought, just once, I'd be the first one with a recap!
I thought Carolyn looked lovely in a simple off-the-shoulder (and short) black dress, black hose and strappy black pumps. She could have used some jewelry, though. Jay complimented Carolyn on her dress and said it was less conservative than how she appears on the show. Carolyn responded by saying the show is business and this isn’t the boardroom…this is Jay Leno!
George was...well...feisty!
They were both disappointed with the men on the first task. George mentioned Kwame’s horrible location choice, David chasing people with a sign and Sam trying to sell a $1000 cup of lemonade.
Jay asked about the women using sex to sell. Carolyn said, “We know sex sells, but give us something new. We needed some brain power – it’s a job interview for goodness sake!"
Jay also asked why so many men went at first, then all women. Carolyn said it was simply the process of elimination. First, the weaker men were fired, then the weaker women.
Jay asked what they thought about Assy (he called her Amarosa - hee!) and said he found her very likeable backstage. George said Jay must be the only person who doesn't know Assy's name. Carolyn mentioned that Assy claimed Carolyn was afraid of her. Jay said, "Were you?" Carolyn replied by saying she doesn’t think Assy's a very credible person. you and about a billion other people!
Carolyn was okay, but I think she almost came off as a little snotty. George was George and cracked me up with his comment about the winner being the guy who sold David Arquette his suit.

I thought the same thing,

George seemed way more comfortable in the Jay Leno setting...Carolyn was almost too serious. They both seemed like they had fun though. And I've always liked Leno, but his comments went beyond his regular flirtations--it was almost like he was hitting on her!

I find myself looking for clues wherever I can find them:
Did anyone notice that on The Tonight Show, Carolyn seemed a little unsure how many guys were left? She said, "Well, right now, we are down to one woman, and . . . four . . ." (looked at George for confirmation). George said, "Yep, four." Carolyn finished, "Four men."
Anyone else notice? Does it mean anything? Other than that I need some serious help? Is there an Apprentice Addict support group for me to join?

I didn't think much of it. After all, this was filmed months ago, and she's gone back to her normal job/life. In her place, I wouldn't be watching the show (she's already seen it all), so I have no problem with her forgetting for a moment at what point the show has aired to.

Jay made a squicky comment asking Carolyn if she had a brass pole at home, but George kind of got a kick out of it.
I thought that was a hugely insulting thing to say - especially to a classy lady like Carolyn. Maybe he was just trying to compliment her on looking sexy. But suggesting someone looks like a stripper implies they look tacky - not sexy. I thought that comment really threw Carolyn off and she did sort of come off snippy at times in the rest of the segment. I'm a big Carolyn fan but questioned her choice of ensemble. She may have been trying to counter all the comments about her being so "prim" but it seemed at odds with her criticisms of the overly revealing outfits worn by the women on the show.
But I loved her calling Omarosa out on that nonsense about Carolyn being afraid of her. Yep - don't cross Carolyn. And interesting that Jay felt the need to get a dig in at Assy - saying how awful she comes across on TV.
I also found it interesting that Carolyn paused and checked with George before saying that there are four men left.
She was sure enough about the one woman left though. So I think that is a strong indication that the men's numbers get whittled down before Amy faces firing (if she ever does). I'm 99.9 % sure a man goes tonight. Besides - it's damned unlikely Trump would fire 8 women in a row. Last week he was upset at having to fire the 7th woman in a row. And yeah - you just gotta love George. "I'm just a lawyer." Hee!

Yikes. Only 3 weeks maternity leave with both children, plus she works 70-80 hour weeks? Then, she adds this show into the mix? As much as I admire her, this makes me lose a little respect for her. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but you shouldn't have kids if you have no intention of making them a priority in your life. I may be jumping to conclusions - she may be a true superwoman capable of successfully juggling it all - but, I'm just not comfortable with the possibility that her kids get so little of her time.

Luckily her husband also made the kids and helps out at home. As he should, they're his kids too. She can see them when she gets home, weekends (same as if she worked a 9 to 5). Is her husband a stay-at-home dad? Makes sense, she makes plenty I bet. They go rock-climbing as a family, which is awesome.
I personally thought Carolyn's attire was totally appropriate for the venue she was at. She's on Leno! She dresses for the occasion. And boo to Jay for likening her to a stripper. It was probably meant as a compliment, but it just smacked of a way of putting a strong, intimidating woman in her place. I hate the fact that no matter HOW capable these women are it's: heyyyy legs! ooh boobies! I mean, appreciate the female form, sure.. but what about her abilities?
I just can't imagine Jay going "Hey Troy.. nice arms.. Kwame nice ass! Bill... who's been working out?? Got a chippendale's uniform at home?" He's such a grr!

I'd say that's a bit rash to assume that she's away from her kids. Leno is taped in LA, who's to say she isn't there with her husband/kids and going to DisneyLand tomorrow as part of a family trip. (A lot of guests do just that on the talk-show circuit apparently.)

Luckily her husband also made the kids and helps out at home. As he should, they're his kids too. She can see them when she gets home, weekends (same as if she worked a 9 to 5).
The article inferred that she leaves the house before her kids get up. I guess you could speculate that she leaves the house by 5am, works a 10-14 hour day and is home between 3pm-7pm. That, of course, doesn't take travel time into account. Or, The Apprentice into account. Plus, it would mean that she also puts time in on the weekends (which would make sense since she manages golf courses).
The article also mentioned that her husband was a project manager at another company.
It's probably just my personal baggage rearing it's ugly head - and a yooge assumption on my part that you can't have it all - but I'm guessing there are plenty of missed school functions, sporting events, dance recitals, holiday dinners, good night kisses, etc. It's not a big deal when looking at the big picture, but it is a big deal when you're little.
ETA: This goes for mom AND dad, not just mom. If mom can't be there, dad should be and vice versa. Just as long as the nanny (or whomever) isn't the one really raising the kids and the kids know that when push comes to shove, mom/dad will be there for them.

I couldn't agree more. It is about time that men make their children a priority in their life, too, it is a relic of the 1950's that women should be expected to sacrifice their career to raise their children. Working in Westchester and living in Connecticut probably means she can get back and forth pretty quickly, and props to her for going after what she wants while still maintaining a balance with her family. Honestly, I'd rather see a child raised by a strong, successful woman like her than some of the nitwits on this show even if they stayed home 24/7.

Oh dear. I hate the idea of women judging other women for their personal decisions. I really believe that it's up to the individual woman to do the things that she believes are best for her and her family and that she shouldn't have to feel guilty for either staying at home or working . But I must admit that I understand your concern, kattam6175. Does she really work 70 to 80 hour weeks? I don't have any kids, but I imagine that even my cats would feel seriously neglected if I worked that much, let alone my husband. And there are all those studies that say that when it comes to spending time with kids, it's NOT quality, it's quantity. That said, if anyone can make it work, it's Carolyn.

Not very happy with ppl jumping to conclusions about Carolyn's time spent with her kids. :( As someone said about Leno's tacky "stripper pole" com(pli)ment (not so much, Stupid Jay!)...would he say "Great ass in the boxers, Kwame, do you have a buttbuster machine at home?" Same thing with hard-working guys...no one ever thinks to say, "Wow, you work 60 to 70 hours per week, Mr Executive. When do you spend time with your kids?"

You just nailed it. It's the usual Catch 22 for women in the workplace. If a man said he worked the way Carolyn does - he'd be hailed as a dedicated corporate star. But when a woman says it - she's just a bad mother. If a man says he cuts back on his working hours to be with his kids - he's a dedicated family man. If a woman does that - her bosses and co-workers question her "focus" and "committment" to her job. btw - I'm not speculating about this. I'm living it and hearing it, both ends of it, all the time.
But this is just one more reason why I really like the show. There's nothing like a prime time television hit to make people think about these kinds of issues. And these are issues that deserve more attention.
miaK
Apr 1, 2004 @ 3:12 pm
I'm sure that Carolyn does prioritize her kids, but the fact is that there are only so many hours in a day and if you're working 13 to 15 hour days, there's not much left at the end for anything else. And I don't think this is a gender thing. Well, it isn't for me personally. Kids need both their parents. There was a survey last year about workers around the world that found that Americans work more hours and take less vacation time than workers in any other developed country, including Japan! Now I'm thinking that if we're working harder than the Japanese, then there's something wrong here; ) Until our country starts to value family and leisure time more, neither men or women are going to feel comfortable openly prioritizing family over work.
True story: I used to work at an organization where leaving on time was given the hairy eyeball (though nobody would actually say anything about it). So every night, there would be this Mexican standoff between a bunch of us to see who would leave the latest. It was kind of ridiculous because I suspect that some people weren't really working the extra time, just balancing their checkbooks, making calls, or playing solitaire on their computers. I always felt for the moms (yes, they were always women) who had to leave because they had kids to get home to. They were seen by the passive agressive jerks in charge as not being serious about their jobs. It was a pickle.

Unfortunately, in the US we're defined by our jobs... or fortunately depending on your viewpoint. What do you "do" is one of the first questions we ask. We also don't give much time for maternity, for yearly vacation and we tend to be a society of excess. (lots of food, lots of work, lots of.. lots of..)
On the other hand there are societies where the women have babies and the babies go to work as soon as they're able to have motor skills. Life's not perfect.. but we all do the best we can.
And I think Carolyn is a great role model for women, and young girls. They see a woman who has a commanding position and does not compromise her dignity. She speaks plainly, she's accomplished, and she she uses her brain. I think she's just fabulous!

I'm not questioning the validity of the study, I just want to comment that I'm closing in on Stalker (5000 posts) and I don't have a computer at home. Times are a changin'. It's very rare for mothers to stay at home 24/7 until their kids are all grown up. I really don't know any stay-at-home soccer Moms. Both my parents had careers and worked long hours, but that's life. My Mom went back to work one month after she had my youngest brother. We had nannies, grandparents and day care, and went to boarding school for a few years when we lived overseas. I don't see anything wrong with how we were raised. I know when I have kids, my husband and I will do a lot of juggling and exercise more time management. Kids are pretty resilient and as long as they know their parents love them and are there for them, they'll adapt.
How come no one criticizes Donald Trump for his long hours??? He has 4 kids, one who is 7, I think, (with Marla Maples) whom he barely sees. There does seem to be a double standard at work here that mandates that women play a bigger role in childcare than fathers. Working mothers do seem to be vilified more for their career choices than working men.
Oh, I thought Carolyn looked very sexy on the Tonight Show. I didn't realize how slim she was. And she has great legs! It's funny because that was how the female Apprentice-wannabes dress for work every day.
