It's been two months, so I'm double posting. Hope it's okay...
Please tell me someone else saw TRL today with Omarion from B2K! I love the producers of this show for constantly cutting back to the one crazed fan in the audience who was in hysterics over the extremely tragic breakup of B2K. First of all, I don't think I have ever seen a group of performers with such little talent provoke such extreme emotions from people. Maybe I was just out of the loop, but was B2K even that big? Now they break up and TRL is making a big deal out of it. However, the girl on the green shirt on today's show who did not stop crying the entire time Omarion was interviewed must be the most emotionally unstable person in the world. B2K? Really?
I now remember why I hate this show so much...

MC SammyD, that's exactly what I was thinking when I saw today's episode. I kept thinking, "What B2K song could possibly cause a woman to break down into TEARS on NATIONAL TV?" I admit I found Uh Huh catchy but for the most part they were never really what I would have considered a vocal group. I can't remember a time in which they actually sang live at a performance and said performances were usually so heavily choreagraphed as to detract from the fact that they sounded like a bunch drunken frat boys.

I'm as confused as you about this whole B2K deal. They had success, but they weren't huge stars by any stretch of the imagination. But I guess there were loyal B2K fans, just like any other group, but I never thought B2K would be around forever.

I LOVED the show during the 1999-2001 era! I lived for the cheesy co-hosted episodes where Carson was joined by Nsync or BSB! Just to see the fans in the audience crying and freaking out when they got to ask one of the bandmembers a question, only for them to ask if they remembered looking at them at one of their concerts, or what has now become the obligatory "ask your heartthrob" question of boxers or briefs! But nothing could top psycho/batshit/crazy mofoette Tiffany, the BSB fan that had the Britney Spears body and Daphne Aguilerra face....."IM GONNA KILL YOU CARSON"

What a sad, neglected thread. Anyway, today Ben Affleck said that it was harder for him to wear a Yankees jersey than it would be for him to have sex with a man. And all I can think of is my longstanding theory that Ben Affleck and Matt Damon totally used to be a couple.

DavidK93 It's not sad. TRL sucks all kinds of ass. The fact that they need four people (at times) to introduce 10 videos is ridiculous. Even more, they play the same damn videos every fucking day! And if I here one more person give a "shout out" to one of their friends I am going to scream....

Well, they clearly all share a brain so the only way any of them can function is to annoy the living hell out of everyone and have all four present. Mind you, Damien does that by existing.
Ben and Matt were
so a couple.

The only reason I will watch this show is for Damien Fahey. But then I hear La La and Sway practically yelling about something and I flip the channel. BTW, Damien was on Regis & Kelly this morning.
The only way this show is tolerable is for me to turn the sound down and watch the eye-candy that is Damien.

Did anyone see the plaque that P.Diddy got today from TRL with Damien and LaLa gushing about how Bad Boy helped make TRL what it is today? I could have sworn Backstreet Boys and NSYNC and Britney made TRL what it is today?

A few questions about TRL if anyone can answer:
Carson Daly is listed as a producer on the show. what gives?
Suchin Pak does the news sometimes and wears some of the most god-awful outfits (Ryan Seacreast eat your heart out). what gives?
Could someone kill Sway?
What kind of name is "La La" and "Quddus"?

But boy bands are
soooooo four years ago. Britney gets a pass because she's a chick taking her clothes off, and that's always cool. Frankly I think TRL wants to forget they ever existed, which is kind of messed up, even if others feel the same way. Today's teenyboppers want to be hip and all into hip-hop for the most part. The 12-year-olds who loved *NSYNC, etc. are now completely ashamed they ever did. They're not alone; Justin Timberlake seems to be in the same boat. TRL has followed his lead on that one.
A couple months ago they had a feature which I considered very hypocritical. They featured videos that had been on the countdown previously which they considered cheesy and bad. O-Town's "We Fit Together" was on there. Yes, it sucked ass, but it was #1 a lot and retired, and they didn't say jack about it when it was on. That video was just as laughable when it first came out.

I was one of those individuals that went to the TRL message boards, bought Britney, NSYNC, Spice Girls, and Backstreet Boys merchandise (no Christina because she was apparently off limits for a Britney Fan), and worshipped this show. Of course, this was 2-3 years ago when this tired show used to be fun. Carson Daly was a tool, yes. But, at least when he was on the show the tool made the show a bit fun. He would kiss the asses of the artists so that they would return and make more fans cry and practically pee in their panties out of love. That was the TRL I loved -- total fandom, total cheese, and unapologetic. Now? For all the talk on how sex burns the eyes of children and makes them become prostitutes, I don't see that much talk being centered on the current trend of hip hop. Sure, Nelly got some heat for running a credit card through a girls’ behind but those flames do not compare to the virtual fire that most of the female artists went through. Hip hop, to me, is a much more dangerous territory to be stepping into for tweens of 12 or 13. But, it's cool! It's more "real"! It's so legit!

I cared about this show about five years ago. Back then, I was all optimistic and voted for stuff like Blur's Coffee & TV (which is still my favorite video and my current favorite band). Somewhere along the line, I realized that MTV would never play anything I liked and that Carson Daly was not only a tool, but desperately trying to hang onto his youth. It's almost sad. Or not.
So that was the end of my MTV days.
The last time I saw him was about a year ago when I subjected myself to his awful talk show because David Bowie was on. It was hilarious because it was quite clear that Bowie didn't like him very much. He kept interrupted him to say something to the audience and he ended the interview with a long rant against radio, MTV, and the like. And Carson just sat there, squirming, and trying to pretend he doesn't make a living kissing Jessica Simpson's ass. It was good times.

When did Carson Daly get kicked off of TRL, and got replaced with 4 dimwits? The only one I could actually stomach was Hilary, but now she's doing OTH. I CANNOT stand LaLa or Sway. They need to find some fresh faces who actually have a brain and have an inside voice instead of shouting like Sway.

Yeah, I hate the VJ's they have now. I actually don't like any of em too much. I remember the good ol days when I used to have that love-hate relationship with Carson. I would talk about how lame he was, but LOVED how he hosted TRL. I will never accept another replacement. Ever.

Jul 2, 2004 @ 5:17 pm
I knew Carson had to leave sooner or later. I felt that Dave Holmes would have made a good replacement. Even though he came in second to Jesse Camp in that VJ contest that MTV held a while back, he was obviously better. I guess Dave Holmes didn't have the body type that MTV was looking for in a VJ. Quddus and Hilary haven't been too bad as VJs though.

Okay. o.k. Let's take everyone's snark at face value. Breathe. Good. Now,who is by far the lesser of two evils. Dare I say it--the biggest tool;Carson Dreary or Ryan Seabiscuit ? I totally hate myself, but I actually find myself kind of liking Damien. He makes me laugh sometimes. He seems like a cool guy to hang out with, and he's a bit cheesy and I like that. Hillarie is also good, but she's hardly ever on anymore. La La is tolerable, but has the worst name ever. I HATE Vanessa and Quddus. Vanessa because she's just a complete airhead and laughs at her own jokes when no one else does. Quddus because he just seems to think he's too hot and too cool. He just tries too hard. I do find myself watching this show on a regular basis, though. Usually I just have it on in the background, but they do have good guests most of the time, so I watch. And I cry. But I still watch.

Does anyone know, Is LALA still engaged, I remember her getting engaged on ne year's last year or the year before, but I don't see a ring on her finger anymore, what happened?
MC SammyD
Jul 4, 2004 @ 12:18 am
No, she's not engaged anymore. I remember watching a show last year -- I believe Clay Aiken was the guest because they had people in the audience play with "Claydough" -- and they had to make little clay models of the TRL VJs or something. One girl made one of LaLa, and when LaLa picked it up she pulled off the engagement ring the girl had added on there and said "It doesn't need this. I'm not engaged anymore." It was kind of awkward. The girl looked embarrassed and nobody knew what to say. I remember laughing because it was such a weird situation for the guests and other VJs, I'm sure.
and his name was bob
Jul 13, 2004 @ 3:45 pm
Ooo, I remember that Claydough table and the ring. I was actually at TRL that day and I was standing right behind that table and I didn't know what the heck that doll thing was about. But yeah, TRL is trash. I've actually been on the show more times than I've watched it. Its a cool place to meet celebrities though. I usually go when Kelly Clarkson is there. The last time I went the One Tree Hill cast was there too. CMM is one attractive dude. And though they both annoy me when I watch back the show, Damien and Quddus are pretty hot, and actually pretty friendly too. Better than Carson, IMO. Even the Seamonkey is better than Carson in my book.

TRL tanked around 2001. I'm still a big fan of the BSB but that's the only people I've remained loyal to from the big TRL era or 1998-2000. Use to loved Britney, *NSYNC, Christina, etc but it's obvious that TRL isn't about the viewer. Hell, MTV isn't even about the viewer. What's hot in the 'hip, preppy crowd' is what goes. I don't like using labels, but that's about it. Carson was dumb as a rock, but at least he made it fun. They only play like 20 seconds of the video now, they have the same guests over and over again and they play all these stupid fcuking games. It's ridiculus.
The only way you get played on TRL is if they like your IMAGE. WTF cares about talent, anyway, right?!

I would like to give a BIG Thank You!! to whoever it was that had the "We Love Chilli" sign outside of the TRL studio when Usher was on today. I think they removed you after camera panned over you that first time. I hope he and Chilli see that shit.
The arrogance was on full blast today. I can't believe him. True that little prick is crazy talented but it's as if someone removed any trace on humility left in his body. That dude had the nerve to say something like "Everybody loves Raymond". No, you cocky bastard, everyone doesn't like you.
MC SammyD
Jul 30, 2004 @ 10:58 pm
I purposefully avoided TRL today knowing that Usher's arrogant, fetus-head ass was going to be there. Now I kind of wish I saw it so that I could see the "We Love Chilli" sign. Sounds hilarious!
I did see an amazingly wonderful moment on TRL earlier this week, though. They had a behind-the-scenes segment of Omarion (formerly of B2K) recording his album. They came back and got feedback from the audience. I kid you not, one girl broke down into tears on air and said "I can't wait for Omarion's album....but it's just not the same. *Sobs* I just miss B2K soooo much!" It was just unbelievable. I was shocked that anyone actually cared when they broke up, but to see that 6 months later there are girls still crying about it boggles the mind.
I laughed for, like, 5 minutes, though.

I saw that Omarion moment too and I laughed all the way to work because of it. TRL is such a travisham (or whatever the Miller Presidential guy says). Every time I try to watch it I have to change it cause they show around 9 seconds of the video then God knows how long of Vanessa or Quddus or Damien and then I have to supend my rage to kill then and then they punish me by showing Hilary Duff and her not-real sister and I have to flea the scene.
Poor TRL.
Gator
Aug 1, 2004 @ 10:05 pm
I saw that too! I couldn't believe it either. B2K had moderate success, they were no Backstreet Boys or NSync. I had no idea their break-up would bring someone to tears! Months after it happened! Hilarious, though.

I just happened to decide to watch TRL today and who should make an appearnace to co-host?
Carson Daly.
And all of a sudden, I could care less how toolish he was interviewing Lil' Flip or how La La sucks. All I could do as stare dumbfounded at the tv and say out loud "Carson should just come back and host." Tol or not he at least comes off with some level of normality than the TeamSuck they have right now.

Word, TRL and Carson Daly are synonmous as far as I'm concerned. They both kind of suck, but when you put them together there is something kind of pleasing about it. Maybe its just nostaglia talking because I remember the good old days when I would come home from school, turn on MTV, and watch Carson stumble his way through video introductions for an hour.

Does anyone agree with me that it seems like Vanessa and the other VJs don't really get along? Especially her and Damien. I dunno, I could be wrong, but I just sense so much uncomfortability between the two, whereas its the complete opposite when its Damien and the other VJs.
Gator
Aug 24, 2004 @ 1:48 pm
I think the opposite. I think Vanessa and Damien get along very well. When they hosted the MTV Reality Awards they were all over eachother. You can also tell that Quddus and Damien get along well and La La did some kinda cute touching of Damien the other day when she was trying on Beyonce's perfume, so I think they all get along fine.

Carson was hosting again today for the special VMA edition of TRL. Looks like he'll be involved with the festivities. I'd much rather see him tooling around the red carpet than Quidditch or whatever the hell his name is.
I was a little creeped outh though, as Carson was interviewing Asslee Simpson. They apparently used to date and it made me a little nauseous watching them be flirtatious. Especially since she looks like she could be his little sister.

I, too, was a big TRL fan in the grand old days of 99 through 01. I loved BSB (still do), enjoyed Britney and could even stomach Nsync if need be. Nowadays? The Duff sisters are murdering Our Lips Are Sealed, both Simpson sisters are on the countdown plus everything Murder, Inc. throws on the market. No, I can't say that I like that show anymore.
Plus, I hate how they're kissing Timberlake's ass but are neglecting JC Chasez's vastly superior efforts. His video for All Day Long I Dream About Sex is hilarious. What? I'm a Chasez fan.

Tack on NSYNC and I'm right with you. I even miss Carson. The show just isn't the same without cheesy pop (which I love, by the way) and Carson kissing everyone's ass, and switching personalities for the different artists on the show.
I flipped to the show last night, and Damien (I'm just guessing that's his name since I know it wasn't LaLa, Vanessa or Quddus) was outro-ing (is that a word? it was after the video went off) the new Outkast video and he said it was by Benjamin Andre. Had to turn the channel on that one.
