What can I say? It's snowing, I'm on vacation, I'm bored. May as well revive the fanfic thread!
This is a very good one (and fairly short) that assumes William and The Truth never happened. And
this one has the dubious honor of being my favorite fanfic ever. So read it if you haven't. It's kind of a fill-in-the-blanks for season 7. And it's quite long, but well worth the investment of your time.

Good recs,
greenshirt. I'd never read False Memories, and Parabiosis is an old favorite.
ETA: Sorry, DD_lurve, I never saw your post from November. I had nearly all of my fic pulled from Gossamer. I think I only have one or two stories on there. If you want to torture yourself with my early writing, you can find it at my site. Thanks for the compliments!

I wasn't quite certain where to place this tidbit, so to the Mulder file we go...
I saw this while checking the AP wire for horse racing results:
<< NEW YORK (AP) - Spooky Mulder won the $52,000 allowance feature at Aqueduct on Wednesday, pulling away from Kazoo in the middle of the stretch for a 3 1/2-length victory. >>
Classic.

Well, this is actually the fanfic thread, but that is pretty funny. I've always wanted to name a pet after one of the XF characters. One of these days I'll move into a building where I can have one.

Slip, I never saw your post in January, because I've been off TWoP for a while, but I went to your site and may I say: You are a fanfic goddess. It's brilliant.
Also, word to the great recs, greenshirt. Got any more up your sleeve?

Jan 25, 2004 @ 6:45 pm
Aw, well thanks DD_lurve! I don't know if that's entirely accurate, but I appreciate the sentiment. If you're not careful, talk like that could get me writing again. Which would be BAD. Very, very bad.

Jan 27, 2004 @ 8:33 pm
It would be good. Very, very good. (At least for me. Maybe bad for you.)
I don't know if this is the right place to open this for discussion, but what the hell. Does anyone else find that a ton of songs remind them of XF? Or am I just a lonely freak? ;)

All right, I'm going to dive into the world of fanfic for the first time, starting with Slippin' Mickeys site. But first let me just say something - this photo? Kicks. ass.

Is the internet hating me today or what??
Slippin' Mickeys

Nope, it's geocities that hates you. You'll have to cut and paste the web address into the bar. You can't link. It's dumb.

Sometimes, the internet sucks major ass. On my father's decidedly ancient machine, our internet regularly completely demolishes the whole system. (I have no idea how... My comuter literacy extends about as far as 'Push button, program opens... Yay!')
About time for some more recs. Hmmm...
This is pretty good, and I didn't even see
Small Potatoes. But
This is quite frankly one of the funniest fics I have ever read.
Slippin' Mickeys

Oh my God, that second one is brilliant. Why hasn't anyone thought of that before? Other than Helen Fielding thinking of it before, I mean. Loving it!

I didn't even see Small Potatoes
*Gasp!*
The horror! That's one of my fave eps.
Anyway...I think that I've seen that diary fic before and loved it. It seems like I've been reading tons of fic lately, mostly just to fight this awful winter we have going on....and also to drown out my physics homework.

How did I not see that the first time I read your post? I second what

Feb 12, 2004 @ 7:26 pm
I know, I know... I feel very left out sometimes, because I haven't seen so many important episodes (like Redux I & II, Herrenvolk/ Home, the entire CancerArc), because of my pathetic lack of money for DVDs and the shameful absence of XF from Canadian airways. It's only on one station, once a week. Ever.
Glad you guys like the Bridget Jones one. I love it to death. Any more to recommend?
This is a nice one.

I was just coming in here to ask for more recs. I'm totally stuck and bored at work, and there are people in the boardroom behind me so I have to look like I'm busy. You know, doing work on the computer instead of reading these magazines or writing in my notebook.
So keep them coming!

the shameful absence of XF from Canadian airways
What would I do without my DVD's? Not that I live in Canada, but with Track practice in the afternoons and lack of eps on Tuesdays (WTF is up with that?) the programming picture isn't much better in Indiana. At least for me.
Unfortunately, I have no rec-able fic. But I am looking forward to an update of the Bridget Jones' one.
Vile Tom?? Couldn't stop laughing at that.

Slip, have you read Midnight Mark-up by Louise Marin? It's a fun little romp. It's rated R for naughtiness. But it's fun. Wee!
Here it is.ETA: I can't seem to link directly to the story. So the link above goes to the page on gossamer that lists it. Maybe there's no way to link to stories directly on gossamer? I sure as hell don't know.
Slippin' Mickeys
Feb 19, 2004 @ 7:46 pm
Sadly, there are few fics out there (pre 2002) that I haven't read. Midnight Mark-up isn't one of them. Totally read it! (and enjoyed) but you never know, so keep them coming!
I'm so effing bored at work right now, I drooled a little on my keyboard.
And it wasn't just because the hot intern walked by.

Feb 21, 2004 @ 6:17 am
Okay... Keeping em coming.
Black Boxers and Strawberry Hair? It's a parody of MSR sexy stories. My favorite part?
"What fools we've been!," wailed both in unison, their tears commingling to
roll down their faces, soak into their clothes, and spray around the room
to spot the many papers and posters that lined the walls.
Heh. It's just the tear-spraying visual. Get's me.

Feb 22, 2004 @ 9:25 pm
Ha! That was pretty damn funny. I like the part about naming their kids, beacuse soooo many stories do it like that:
So that's what they did, and they had little Fox Dana Mulder and little Walter Fox Mulder and Samantha Melissa Mulder and Ahab Margaret Mulder and Skinner Mr. X Mulder and Scully CSM Mulder.
Ha ha ha ha...

So I'm bored as hell here at work, and in an endeavour not to get written up for the second day in a row, I figured I'd do something completely innocuous like read some fanfic, which I haven't done in a while.
Tell me, did fanfic used to be better, or am I just a complete elitist these days? Because... wow. Little did I know in the last couple of years how pervasive badfic was.

Oh wow, I hear ya slippin mickeys - a few years ago I was all over the fan fic thing...totally addicted. I used to hide it in my text books and read it during lectures etc. But now - feh - can't seem to get enthused about too much of it. It's all going over the same old/same old to me. That's not to say I wouldn't get excited about something new from Penumbra or your good self....
Slippin' Mickeys
Apr 5, 2004 @ 2:28 pm
Thanks, ipso facto, that's really sweet. I would have to agree with you on the Penumbra front. How long as Upsidasium been in the works?
Anyway, if any new (well written, exciting new plot-y) fic comes out, I would love a poster/lurker rec!
Come to think of it--I don't even mind a rehash of a plot that's already been done, as long as it's well written. I'm sure you can all dig.
DD_lurve
Apr 5, 2004 @ 7:08 pm
Well, this is isn't very plot-y, but it's an extrememly well written, "Memento"-ish (but not action driven), post-col. fic. Great characterization, great idea, beautiful writing... Great everything. Can you tell I like it?

Apr 7, 2004 @ 5:54 pm
I don't know if
this is what you had in mind,
minneapple, since it's not really so much about M & S being on the run as it is about the emotional aftermath of the William situation, but it does feature post-Truth lamming and a bedtime story within a story (you have to read it to understand) which actually bored me at first, but which I eventually found kind of touching.

OK, now this may be a dumb question, so you all have to promise not to laugh at the stupid Australian*. I need someone to explain to me the scientific nature of 'on the lam'. I mean, I know it's like they're on the run, but 'the lam' - where the heck does that come from? Is it an abbreviation for something I am unaware of? Please help!
That said, I was half way through when I realised I had read that fic greenshirt but it's a good one, thanks!

Welcome, ipso facto, from another kangaroo dodger and seasoned Steve Irwin avoider. Which part of the wide brown land are you from? I'm in CQ.
Hmmmm topic! Gossamer's just updated and there's a great story by mort there. It's Krycek/Mulder slash, which I don't usually read, but it's really good. The title is "Dancing in the Shadows" and if I was more talented I'd include a link, but I'm not, so you'll have to do your own research...

Some of my favorite old fics are by
Dawson Rambo. Umbra was amazing. Long, but well thought out, with interesting new characters and some old favorites.
Dawson's PageI also enjoy the work of
Prufrock's Love. Especially the AU stuff.
Prufrock's LoveProbably everyone has read this stuff already, but hey, maybe there are a few new people out there.
I should say its almost all MSR, but well done, I think. Sometimes the talent of people just amazes me.

Hey Crass! Thansk for the welcome. I'm way down south in Melbourne, and it's getting pretty damn cold down here again. Drat. Nice to know I'm not the only antipodean on the boards.
Err..topic... wow, I've never heard of Dawson Rambo, so will definitely be checking that out! A nice long fic is just what I need four weeks out from my first thesis draft right?

Still toasty up here in CQ! I second the love for Prufrock's Love. Dark, very AU, post-col but great characterization. Possibly my favourite fanfic writer, apart from Xanthe.

Just read Your Platonic Relationship, and Slip is right: it was both funny and well-written. As well as very much in character. I enjoyed it, and I'm not all that much into fanfic neither.
Crass, I have to ask: "CQ"?
[OT]ipso facto, there's something else you can do in Melbourne when your thesis gets you down. Go to Fast Eddy's on Bourke Street (assuming it's still there) and have yourself one of their superb choclate fudge cakes. Then have one for me. It's been way too long.[/OT]
