Is selectman another word for mayor or just town rep?

Taylor wasn't the mayor. There was a guy named Harry that everyone called the mayor who showed up in the second or third season.

Yeah, I remember Harry, but then he was never at meetings so I wondered if he gave all his duties to the selectman. Because it would seem that ribbon-cutting ceremonies, along with bonfires, would be among a mayor's duties.

In the GG version of Town Meeting (which is even less realistic than most things Stars Hollow, BTW) government anything's possible, I guess, Gracelessly.
Not that it really matters, but did we ever learn Mayor Harry's last name? That question just popped into my head and shows signs of refusing to leave now that it's gotten in, the way dumb questions frequently do.

I can't believe Jackson Douglas is married in real life to Alex Borstein, the first Sookie St. James and later the crazy harp player. I wonder if they auditioned together?

So.... his last name is Belville, not Melville? That was the way Rev. Skinner was pronouncing it this week, but I always assumed otherwise.

I thought his last name was Melville, too! But the sign outside the church said "Bellville" and that's what the Rev. said, so I must be crazy.

It changed around the time of Tippecanoe and Taylor Too. At some point earlier, it was definitely Melville.

It had to have changed because in the beginning I thought it was Mellville. But TaTT said Belville and the church sign said Bellville and 5.21 is called Blame, Booze and Bellville.

5.21 was actually entitled "Blame Booze and Melville", no? Because Rory made a Moby Dick reference prior to the yacht-stealing.

It is Melville in "Blame Booze and..."
On the changing of his name from Melville to Belleville, The Triplets of Belleville had come out before "Tippecanoe," and "belle ville" means "pretty town," so I wonder if there was any point whatsoever to this odd renaming.

If the cast and ASP and DP ever have one of those panel discussions that are open to the public again (a la the MTR event a while ago), someone should ask them why did they change Jackson's last name? To see if we were paying attention? Or did the writer of TATT just screw up and they didn't correct it?
I know it's a minor nitpick in the overall scheme of things, but it is irksome.

I'm pretty sure in Blame Booze and Melville the Melville isn't talking about Jackson, it's talking about Herman (a la Moby Dick). Refering to Rory's rant about 'knocking people's hats off and taking to the sea'.
I think Jackson's name was Melville until TaTT, and it definately was in ICGS and the other Sookie/Jackson wedding planning episodes.

As far as BBaM goes, I was always positive that it was because Lorelai blamed 'Booze' for the pregnancy scare, and Rory blamed 'Melville' (Herman, author of Moby Dick) for needing to 'take to the sea' and steal the yacht. Hence, 'Blame Booze and Melville'. I don't ever remember Jackson's last name being Melville...the first time I remember his last name being mentioned was in TaTT right after he decides to run for selectman and is shaking hands with people in the town meeting.
Are there instances before then where someone actually says his name as 'Melville'? And if so, what are they?

BBaM is what confused me more. You guys are right (I'm a bad fan). But it was Mellville then Bellville then Mellville (I took BBaM as Jackson/Sookie's last name because they had the baby and the booze with Lorelai and Rory blaming Logan's dad as her reason to steal the boat) then Bellville. So I'm confused.
ETA: Who knew there was 2 pages worth of discussion on Jackson?!?

I'm certain that IMDb had Jackson Douglas listed as playing "Jackson Melville" long before this season began (although it still does, for that matter) and so that's probably where my assumption always came from.

My assumption came from S1's CR, where Jackson introduces himself to Chris as "Jackson Melville."

The real Jackson and his wife Alex Borstein (Drella/Miss Celine) are expecting a

According to the
Celebrity Baby Blog (no, I'm not making that up), the real Jackson and his wife Alex are now the proud parents of little Barnaby (maybe Jackson liked Dark Shadows as much as Sookie did, cause the new munchkin's name sure sounds like Barnabas the vampire).
Family Guy and former Mad TV star Alex Borstein and her husband, former Gilmore Girls actor Jackson Douglas, have welcomed their first child. Barnaby Borstein Douglas arrived on Monday, September 8th, weighing in at 8 lbs, 10 oz. He is 19 inches long.
