Applications up for #6 on CBS main page. Ya got til mid April. Ready...GO!
Currently the link at cbs.com points to
http://www.cbs.com/primetime/amazing_race_application/I'm not going to speculate about TAR6 (lest MA try to poke her eyes out with a variety of sewing and crocheting tools), but the application certainly says TAR6 on it. I figured this was an appropriate thread to mention this in . . .

The apps are real (they're not taking them down--it was planned) but that has no bearing on WRP completing the casting process, producing the show, or it ever getting aired. Just fill out the fucking applications and send them in already.

Still, with the uncertainty about TAR5's existence, it's really interesting that they would start potentially casting for TAR6 so soon. More than obviously, the thought has crossed their mind to have a TAR6. Why not be optimistic?
With, of course, all the usual caveats explained thoroughly by VB above.

You know this for fact? I'm sure you were paying attention when CBS posted the TAR5 apps for a few days, announced it on the front page, and then removed all traces of them for a while. I think this is the concern that they were expressing in the Media thread. When it comes to the CBS WebPeeps, there are too many half-assed examples from the past to ignore.
If I ever made it onto TAR, I'd have to seriously consider purchasing a big white Phil sweater.

I still haven't persuaded Papa Tiger that we should send in our app. Crap. Just because I still can't walk more than three blocks (from botched foot surgery) without pain, he has this foolish notion that I wouldn't make it very far around the world. What an annoying realist he is sometimes!

I think rather than being like, "WHAT IS YOUR SOURCE? WHO ARE YOU WORKING FOR?" and getting all Kiefer about it, you might just assume that Chris probably tells you stuff for good reasons, and the more you demand detail, the less you're gonna get told. Just a suggestion.

I was just pointing out the details that the other poster left out. I couldn't care less if the CBS freaks screwed up. I've already downloaded and printed the application. By the time I get a tape and paperwork finished, I'll know if they screwed up or not.

I just don't think that CBS would find your tax returns terribly interesting, leading them to cast you. I guess that's how you know you're truly entertaining -- if you send them your tax returns & they cast you

The thought occurred to me that if any posters eventually get cast, they should have to change their names according to the city in which they were Philiminated. Who knows? Maybe one day Novacscott could be rechristened, for example, Kievs Bitch.
On topic? Ok. Do you guys think CBS is looking to cast more women or mixed couples? We've all noticed that the show tends to be male-dominated. Do you think they consciously try to avoid this? I'm wondering because I'm trying to decide between 2 people with whom I might apply.

In reviewing the app, interesting to note the new questions asked:
Are you licensed to drive?(I wonder if this had been on tar3 if that wd have eliminated Flo immediately) Can you drive manual or automatic?
You're now required to be more specific if you're single: i.e. no sig. other, and you must list the boy/girl friends name but not so of your spouse's name.
Which airport is closest to your home.
The order of questions has also been changed.
Apps for TAR4 and TAR5 differed very little.

Another change I've noticed is that DVDs are now accepted. That allows for more creativity but AFAIK only A/A have tried the Spielberg route with any success; as VB posted months ago, just stare into the camera and explain to the producers why they will burn in Hell if your team isn't chosen. Probably the best benefit of the DVD format is the opportunity to edit clips on your computer until you get the app exactly the way you want it.

I'll be in the bleachers as well. The application and selection process is an interesting topic for me, just not a personal one: most of my friends can't spare the time from work, and most of my relatives couldn't climb halfway up an Italian Alp or Mexican pyramid without busting an artery. On the other hand, if there's anyone out there who can act the part of a separated-from-childhood friend, and who also happens to be an LP Hawaiian beauty-pageant winner...

Does it matter which city you send your application to? You have to chose one of nine places for your package to be directed and put it on the outside of the envelope, FedEx box, etc. I would think that some places, like Detroit, would have fewer applications than others, like Los Angeles. Would fewer applications mean that TPTB are more likely to notice your brilliance? Or do they not pay any attention to that for the first cut?
My sister and I would be willing travel anywhere for an interview (assuming, of course that the CAs will see our amazing brilliance). NYC is the closest, although still 6 hours away, but I've got nothing against North Carolina.

According to what Chris said during the TAR5 application process, I would say that it makes no difference. IIRC, there were so few teams who made it to the semi-finals
and chose the midwestern city, they asked A&C to head to one of the other cities instead. I simply chose the city I most wanted to spend a couple vacation days in if I were selected.
PS: All applications are mailed to Santa Monica. Your post kind of insinuated otherwise, so I wanted to clear that up.

Who's to say you'd have to skip Tahiti? The race may just go through there! And if you win, well, with a million dollars you could probably take an

A mother and son combination would be something new (unless of course they have one in TAR5), or father and daughter. Grandparent and grandchild would be another new concept. I can see my mother doing it, probably with my daughter. A real cat and dog fight around the world!!
Though when I think of mother and son, I think of a TV program here in Australia called Mother and Son, which started this brilliant elderly actress (Ruth Cracknell, who sadly recently passed away) as a mother suffering from senility (though with moments of complete sanity) living with her very much under the thumb son. A mother and son team like that on TAR would be brilliant.

If I remember correctly, our casting assistant asked us this specifically in the pre-semi phone interview chat things, as well as at semis when the higher-up type person was in the room too. (it didn't really make a difference in getting us on the show... but it's worth mentioning).
According to what Chris said during the TAR5 application process, I would say that it makes no difference. IIRC, there were so few teams who made it to the semi-finals and chose the midwestern city, they asked A&C to head to one of the other cities instead.
I'm not sure if this was mentioned earlier in the thread, but it looks like Pitt. is off the casting city list. My partner and I had actually considered trying to put that as our choice, guessing our odds for getting a semi-interview would be better... in the end, it didn't make a difference. I think the casting people might have been there the day before our semi-round, but they were being very non-chatty about the whole thing... they're really not joking about the confidentiality.

For those looking to see what's been done before, the audition tapes for the TAR3 teams are posted on the CBS TAR3 website under the team profiles --www.cbs.com/primetime/amazing_race3/teams. I know it's been said before, but I had forgotten and so I thought others might have too. For the most part I think they show that it's not the video that's important, it's the people on the video.

The TAR3 app videos are the only ones I could find. For some reason, CBS has always been stingy with TAR bandwidth. Now that Survivor Insider has gone into a free (sponsored) mode, maybe they can do the same for TAR5. I wouldn't mind watching a few seconds of commercials if it meant extra TAR footage.
NovacScott
Apr 1, 2004 @ 9:47 pm
I'd just be happy if they could get the links right each week for the various extra footage clips of TAR. But then, that's far removed from the topic.
As parks said, it's the people in the video that count, not the video itself. Mike & Kathy's video is the perfect example. (IIRC:) Laying down, holding the camera? Classic.
ETA: My co-applicant is coming out for the Easter weekend, so I might be able to get my application in the mail on Saturday. I can only convince her to apply by convincing her that the chance of us getting picked for the semi-final interviews is horribly slim.

Heh, that's how I reassure my buddy's wife. I told her there is no way in hell we would ever get picked, but it sure is fun doing the application and she giggles at the videos. I am firm in my conviction of never being picked for a show. I don't know how to play to the camera in the 'tell us about yourself mode'. I'll tell you all kinds of stuff by just yakking away, but the phrase 'tell us about yourself' shuts down any formal thought process on my part. Oh well. So, if anyone is interested, the open auditions are at the KDKA Studios, One Gateway Center, (Downtown Pittsburgh) Pittsburgh, PA this Friday from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. Good luck.
