Hell, I'm not even a freshman yet and I have freshman eating like habits. Therefore, no freshman 15. But I can't see Rory not sucumbing (sp?) to peer pressure and getting compelete trashed. And knowing her, it'd be on the night before a big test. Because that's always how it works in tv land

Yale for Rory won't be too much harder than Chilton, IMHO. And that's mostly okay with me.
Why would it necessarily be?
I'd be surprised if a school like Chilton wouldn't prepare someone like Rory, who's a hard worker, well for Yale. Not that it wouldn't take some adjusting.
Alia James
You make a good point, MarissaAvid. Chilton would prepare Rory well. But along with adjusting to the transition of home-safe-home to closer-to-the-real-world, there's the fact that the stakes are a lot higher. Now it's not about whether or not Rory'll get into an Ivy League school, but what she'll be doing *after* she's done. And in reality, I cannot imagine that Yale is easy to anyone under any circumstances. Even if you're Rory.

All of this is to say that I don't think ASP or DP will put a whole lot of emphasis on how difficult Yale potentially *could* be for Rory. She'll study, she'll talk about books she likes, she'll talk about studying books she likes, and she'll get amazing grades - pretty much in that order. At least, that's my prediction.

Yes. Aside from that first night, Rory has had little trouble living at college. Oh, but that's right; She has that comfy bed, and can go home whenever she wants.
I wish we saw her having some sort of social trouble (who does she sit with in the dining room) or maybe realize that, yeah: She's still a smart girl. But she's not the smartest girl anymore.

I would've liked to see some scene with Rory (or maybe Paris) where she's a little bit choked: She worked her butt off (her words) in high school to get into Harvard/Yale/Princeton. And now that she has it, now what?

Wasn't Childton kinda like that?

I could see her having fewer social worries. Her experience at Chilton would have prepared her more. She's not as shy as she was (first day homesickness doesn't count), and I think it might have been harder to make friends in such a narrow environment as Chilton, than it would in a broader groups of people in Yale. But, I would like to see some real trouble academically. And, i don't count one episode where she gets a D and misses an important test, yet still manages to become valedicatorian over Paris (digs up dead horse. Beats it maniacally) as really dealing with it. We've seen her with a lot of studying, but no indication that the work was hard, just her being way to picky about finding a place to study.

Agreed, Dani.

At Yale, there should have been plenty of opportunities for academic and social worries, especially in her first semester (which has now passed). The show should still revolve on the Lorelai/Rory axis but part of that could include Lorelai providing support for a little Rory in a big Yale world. At college, no one tends to you, babies you, checks up on you. I don't know about Yale, but most other large universities do not. Rory has to hang with the stronger personalities (I'm figuring Paris has many like her there), leaders, smart people who are even more well-rounded than Rory (for example, Janet can't be a slouch, going to Yale and being the exercise/sport fiend that she is). Let Rory feel a little inferior, like she's got to struggle and fight for what she wants. That's why I liked the concept of "Die Jerk."

Her freshman year is halfway over and they have barely addressed any adjustment issues for Rory, or for Lorelai.

Right next to you, Dani, with a Louisville Slugger. I'm still *royally* pissed off about that injustice.

I thought I would resurrect this thread because there has been some talk about what we missed in Rory's freshman year at Yale. I wouldn't have expected that Rory would do many of the poll choices, but I would have liked to have seen her experience more college experiences, like the backstory of the broom and the loud dormmates. More experiences with her roommates, other than Paris, possibly explaining why Tanna is the way she is.
seawench
Will she become a Girl Gone Wild, or just Rory Without Curfew?

A little dramatic irony in Pamie's post from the top of this thread? Or have the Promo People been reading the forum?
bookie85
How did I manage to miss this thread all along? Well, considering we are more than halfway through year 2 at Yale, and other than a little booty we haven't gotten anything, I would say that she is one of the most boring college girls in the universe, but that said, because she is a lot like me, she is one of the most typical.
outtabreath
But she totally had the roommate from Hell, and still has her. At least Paris had the inappropriately older (and now dead) boyfriend. Too bad Pamie didn't add "Lesbian kiss on Spring break," I would've totally voted for that...and been right!

But was it ever established that Paris received perfect grades all the way through Chilton? For all we know, Paris could have messed up on a test or a paper at some point.
bookie85
In There is the Rub, Paris gets an A- on a chem lab and forces Rory to study with her. For hours. So I would assume that at some point during her season three meltdown she would get a few more of those A-'s because she missed a ton of lectures, and even Rory's notes couldn't make up for that.

I think it shoud now be titled what should have happened...

I think we should revive this thread but instead speculate about Rory's senior year. Because of the way things work on this show, I have no doubt she'll graduate in the spring, as was originally planned.

So, what will her senior year be like? Will she make more friends? Reconnect with old ones? Will we see her in class at all?
Bookwormrach
Great idea, Adina.

I'm all in favor of Rory having new friends--anybody not involved with the Life and Death Brigade! I know most viewers thought Rory's Freshman Year was too boring, that she didn't socialize enough (but as was pointed out to us in "The Hobbit, The Sofa, and Digger Stiles", that is typical Rory behavior.) I was more unsatisfied with Rory's socializing in Season 5 & Season 6. One of the most obnoxious things about the "new" Rory was her grating, snobbish friends (those chicas who always hung out with Colin & Finn--why did they keep getting screentime?).

So, I'm all for Rory hanging out with new people: non-grating, intellectual, driven, funny, funky friends.

Bookworm, I totally, wholeheartedly agree, and have expressed similar thoughts on the Rory thread (though not as articulately!)

Personally, I miss the Rory who was genuinely passionate about ideas and learning new things. I know some might find classroom scenes boring, but I'd love to see a return of the unabashedly geeky, book-loving Rory who gets far more excited by a classroom debate or a particularly interesting research assignment than 'partying' with the Hilton-esque people of Yale. I'll make myself even more of a nerd by confessing that the scene in "There's The Rub" in which she, Jess and Paris discuss books over take-out. I'm crossing my fingers for more of those scenes and that facet of Rory's character!

I loved that book discussion! It seemed so natural, especially for those three people.

I kind of hope she doesn't have a boyfriend at the end. It would be kind of cheesy to get her a new boyfriend who none of us have met, and to get her back together with Jess is likely to be too cliche (Dean even more so). I would be very very unhappy if she was still with Logan at the end. I just want her to go back to the Rory we knew and loved in the first four seasons. That Rory showed up maybe 10 times in the fifth season and 3 in the sixth.

As for her friends, while I doubt all of the Life and Death Brigade people will be gone because Logan is still going to be a main character (how? why?), I'm also hoping she gets some new ones, or at least hangs out with Paris and Marty (Naked guy? What happened to you? Come back with a girlfriend so you can show us that at least one guy can get over Rory) more often.
adina
You know what I'd like to see as far as Rory's friends? I'd like to see her hang out with people from the paper. Just go out and get a cup of coffee, and then maybe see a movie or something. She seems to have acquaitances there, maybe that could turn into friendship. Or chatting while at the paper but not about paper stuff.

While in college, and even in high school, Rory's come out of her shell. She's become more comfortable in social situations. She's becoming slightly more outgoing, and I'd like to see her DAR-Darling status transfer over to people her own age.

Rory and school - her senior year. I'd like to see her mention things about "I almost didn't get into my last requirement" or "I applied for graduation" or telling Lorelai or Logan about how she has to go to the registrar's office, meet with her advisor...normal college stuff. We haven't gotten much of that, other than the meeting with the professor for the D paper in 4th season.
