Has anyone seen the One-A-Day Vitamin commercial that also tries to sell the product as a weight-watching supplement? Once more, I am confused.
thingamajig
which featured the alien from the Alien movies sititng at a desk in an office with a piece of paper with a face on it scotch taped to his face.

Whaaaat? Is it really the actual alien from Alien? Because if so, I have to stop watching TV right now until that ad stops running. There are very, very few things that give me nightmares, but that's at the top of the list.
lmds
I see the stupid Burger King "I'm the champion!" ad...

Every time I see this commercial, it makes me think of another commercial that I think was for orange juice. It was the one that first shows the family getting up in the morning and having breakfast in the 50's and then compares it to how it would be present day. In the present day version, the little boy is running around the house in his underwear with his superhero towel tied around his neck shouting "I'm the champion!".
TraceyBee
I haven't tried Press 'n' Seal, and I love Mario, but that woman on the ad with him has the worst voice ever. I nearly hurt myself hitting the mute button.

And, oh sweet Jeebus, I saw the Pepto-Bismal Dance of Intestinal Distress last night. What were they thinking? MrBee had to leave the room.
ChinkyGirl
Has anyone tried the Glad Press N Seal?

Mario is MAAAD!!!

Actually, wasn't the Filet O'Fish in fact created for Lent? I just hope the double-decker version sticks around too.

I just got a Filet O'Fish today b/c it's Friday and your posts got me craving one. No sign of the double-decker one there though (then again, this is the only McDonald's I've seen that has a Value Menu instead of a Dollar Menu - damn cheapskates).

I still miss the fish sticks though...it was like eating a Filet O'Fish, only in itty bitty rectangles :)
roosterboy
I saw that ad for the first time last night and couldn't help but wonder if they named the product so they could use that song in the commercial.

They must have. I can't see any reason for the name otherwise. Of course, maybe there is some reason that is only apparent when you go to eat them, but since that ain't gonna happen, I guess I'll never know.

And thanks guys, I now have that fucking song stuck in my head.

More hate for this ad. Is anyone doing the Pepto-Bismol Macarena at wedding receptions yet? Stay away from the buffet, man.
Cleo256
Whaaaat? Is it really the actual alien from Alien?

No, but it's definitely inspired by that alien. It's the long head, mostly. This alien is less scary, and entirely hilarious because of his lame human disguise.

That ad aired during the Super Bowl, and somehow was not deemed the best ad of the bunch. It totally cracked me up.

Has anyone seen the One-A-Day Vitamin commercial that also tries to sell the product as a weight-watching supplement?

One-A-Day has come out with a line of "custom" vitamins, one of which has some stuff in it for weight control. I tried it about six months ago, with no results. A few weeks ago I read a magazine article that studied and compared products containing weight control supplements, and One-A-Day was one of the products. The conclusion was that there wasn't enough of the supplement in the vitamin to make a difference weight control-wise. So, once I turned 50 and emptied the vitamin bottle (they didn't do any good but they didn't do any harm, either -- vitamins are vitamins in my book), I switched to Centrum Silver.

please tell me i'm not the only one who saw the bear that was shopping for the Hershey Smore Bar! it's so creepy because he hits on some random blonde girl. i don't know about you, but innuendoes about beastiality doesn't exactly make me crave chocolate!

Yeah, why does every other commercial involve bestiality now?
txmom2boys
I figured TWoP had a commercial thread, so decided to look...just for the Pepto commercial after Survivor last night. Sure enough, here ya'll are.

Disgust. I couldn't even believe some ad execs had the balls to advertise that way! Is it me, or does that girl really fart when she grabs her ass when they sing, Diarreah...!!!. I could not believe what I was seeing, so I rewound it and told txdad2boys to come look. He has a knack for arguing against my point just to stick up for the other team. Sure enough I hear him go, "Ewww...", then he realized he was on my side and he said, "Well, it made you pay attention though, didn't it?" I said, "No shit, (no pun intended) but I don't need a heartburn, nausea, indigestion, stomache ache, diarreah dance make me remember to buy Pepto. I know what it's used for!"

I've got to save that and show it to everyone that comes over. Never, never in a million years could you pay me enough money to dance by a copy machine, fart, grab my butt and be the diarreah lady.

Just thought, since Survivor has a "Make it through the pain" award for Survivor, since this showed after Survivor, they need to have an award who has the less diarreah after one of their food feast challenges. Cause you know they have the shits after eating all that food!
Jeebus Cripes
And thanks guys, I now have that fucking song stuck in my head.

Well, I see my work here is done. ;)

::sigh:: I don't know if you guys watch more TV than me, or if I'm just not watching the right channels-- but I still haven't seen the Doomed! ad, the Pepto ad, or the marionette ad. And yes, it's sad that I'm getting this upset about it. I *so* need to get out more...

His cooking show is ok, but the one he does where he goes around tasting stuff? I think they put the mic in his mouth somehow so you can hear him slurping and smacking. Repulsive. <shudder>

Topic? Sorry, I got nuthin'.

--everyone's a fucking champion!

I place the blame solely on Angel.

I had to come in and ask because I dont know if I was dreaming last night or if this was an actuall movie commercial, but has anyone seen a movie coming out with a little girl and she looks at the camera and has a really mean look on her face and then the next shot she is jumping in the hallway. This scared the shit out of me and I changed the channel quickly, so I dont know what the movie was or if it was even real. Has anyone seen this? What is it? It has truly haunted me all day.
Shelwood
I just realized that the model in the commercial where she marries a nerd and has a cute nerd baby is a model for one of the websites I work on.

Last night's conversation in the Shelwood house:
Me: You know, genetic stiudies show that children are more likely to take after the father, appearance-wise, but intelligence tracks most closely with the mother.
Mr. Shelwood: So?
Me: So that baby is more likely to turn out nerdy-looking and model-brained. If they wanted a nerd-brained model-pretty baby, the dad should be pretty and the mom should be the rocket scientist.
Mr. Shelwood: (Gives that look of, "I love you, but I can't remember why.")
Me: At least you're pretty.

(then again, this is the only McDonald's I've seen that has a Value Menu instead of a Dollar Menu - damn cheapskates).

Ours doesn't have a Dollar Menu either, despite the incessantly played commercial for the Dollar Menu in my area. Grrrr.

This was a few pages back, but:
roosterboy: And IIRC originally those Pace commercials said "New Jersey?!?" instead of "New York City?!?" Don't know why they changed 'em, though.

You are correct. The very first TV spot ever to use the Pace Cowboys used New Jersey, not NYC, as the place of revile. But because so many New Jersey-ites, who are notorious for being sensitive about jokes made about the Garden State, called and complained, the ad makers re-shot the commercial and replaced New Jersey with NYC, and continued to use NYC thereafter.

The Japanese Navy's "Seaman Ship" commercial is the bestest commercial EVER in the history of the world!

Okay, after catching up, I have to chip in something about the California Cheese ads. The ONLY one I've ever seen is the one with the black-and-white pig who thinks he's a cow. I don't care, you can't go wrong with talking pigs.

Has anyone seen the Citi Identity Theft commercial, with the woman who has the man's voice? Obviously it's dubbed in, but...It freaks me out for some reason.

Also...I saw a few bits of the GoldFish commercial with two guys playing guitar, and then they turn orange? WTF? That freaked me out, too. What's with all these freaky-as-hell commercials?
Miki The Brain
I love that Citibank ad. I think they recently started replaying it, but I know I've seen it before- the one with the pretty young black woman at the salon right? What always gets me with that is that her thief used it to make a real robot woman for a prom date. It's even creepier than the rest of them for that fact alone.
spots
Does anybody remember that Super Bowl commercial that Pepsi did that had a young Jimi Hendrix choosing pepsi along with his first guitar? I just saw that on TV and thought it was weird. I loved that commercial. Are they going to play it more? Are they dropping their trashy celebrity commercials and never going back? Could they be replacing them with witty commercials?

Well.. maybe that's too much to ask for..
Mangetical Anji
Oh, good god. Proof that the spongmonkeys are the work of the Devil: I come home for spring break tonight, step off the train from New York, completely exhausted. What is the first thing my parents show me? A Quizno's commercial that they taped. My parents proceeded to practically fall out of their chairs laughing.

I looked at them and said, "You know, we do have TV up in New York."

They've gone mad. Dad keeps busting out with, "They got a pepper baaaaar!"

It sure looked like it, but I was laughing too hard at its lame disguise to look closely. I wonder if he got his disguise idea from Beldar and Prilak?

Darn you all -- I got one too! No sign of the double fish burger nor the shamrock shakes either.

The Japanese Navy's "Seaman Ship" commercial is the bestest commercial EVER in the history of the world!

Hee! You said "seaman"!
VeronicaNC
Hee! You said "seaman"!

They have been showing that commercial all day on CNN. I thought Soledad O'Brien was going to cry this morning when she saw it. Anderson Cooper showed it 4 or 5 times on his show alone and kept saying, "Seaman Ship!" and giggling, because like me, he is 12.
skittl3862
Haha, yeah I saw the Seaman commercial at the end of 360. Anderson just randomly kept finding excuses to show it. And rightfully so, b/c that IS the best commercial!
vegasusa555
please don't stone me, but what are shamrock shakes? what's in them?

Ok, the Citibank ad with the old guy talking about a "leather bustier" is funny, too. I like both commercials, especially the one in the salon. The guys voice that's dubbed in is just so funny.
Miki The Brain
vegas, you poor thing! You do not know the glory that is the Shamrock shake. It's a St. Pat's Day thing that starts at the end of February (my local McD's has had them for a while now) and goes through Mar. 17. It's a minty sort of shake....and wonderfully delish. I had a Shamrock Shake and a Filet of Fish today for lunch and loved it. :) Damnit, I'm lovin it. Fucking A people.
ObscuredbyClouds
When I had Shamrock shakes, they were a green minty concoction, that actually does rock.

Indeed they do,ObscuredbyClouds!

Betting back on-topic, who remembers the ads for Shamrock Shakes featuring the Grimmace's green Irish cousin?

Dork Tower's take on them

Dork Tower, just by the way, is one of the best gaming/geek web comixs out there.

Yesterday, driving home from carpool, I asked my 2 year old if he was hungry and would like to stop by McDonald's.

Instantaneously, wafting forward from the back seat, I hear, "ba ba ba ba ba... I'm lovin' it!"

I swear to God I almost hit a tree.

It was so funny, and yet sooooooooo frightening at the same time. He's TWO!
And, like Pavlov's dog, at the mention of the word McDonald's, he spews out the jingle. Lordy, people.

P.S. The best thing about the newest Citibank commercial is that kid's adolescent, nasal laugh. The actress does a great job of pulling that off realistically.

Cleo, your family is very polite. Whenever my family passes a herd of cows, we just open the window and go "Moooooooo".
Heh. Me too.

I wish the commercial for LG (L.G. Life's Good) dryers would disappear. The kid is awakened by some sort of cartoon nightmare, after which the viewer is treated to a shot of the kid's comforter getting wet. The kid gets up with his trusty canine companion and takes the pee soaked bedding to the dryer and tosses it in. Mom hears him, but hides as he dries his comforter while looking on with pride.

I get that the kid is embarassed, but he's putting urine soaked stuff in the dryer! Plus, there's the sheets still on the bed. You know they got wet too. What's this kid gonna do, just let the damn sheets stay on the bed?

I'd hate for my new quiet running dryer to smell like pee.

I get that the kid is embarassed, but he's putting urine soaked stuff in the dryer!

I know! The first time I saw that ad, I was like..."Is he going to remember to use detergent? Oh, apparently not, because he's putting it in the ... DRYER?! Ew!" It's like he's baking that stain right in there. Grosser than gross. And what kind of mom just sits back and watches her kid ruin good bedding and appliances when she could use it as a teachable moment. It's never too early to learn how to do the laundry properly, kids!
Poodle Hat
We discussed this one WAAAAAY upthread. The general consensus was that it was sad that he was so scared of having peed his bed that he got up to wash his sheets in the middle of the night. And what kind of psycho-mom stands back grinning about it?

Dork Tower, just by the way, is one of the best gaming/geek web comixs out there.

Squeee! I love Dork Tower, and I'm not even into gaming. Hubby and the boys are though.

Speaking of dryers, I saw a commercial for the Dryer of the Gods the other day. It's a Drying Center, with a regular tumble dryer, drawer units, and a cabinet for hanging stuff and all of it is connected to the heat/air source. God, I don't even have nice clothes and I want one. The commercial is pretty funny too, with a little girl maneuvering her way around her house where things are hung up or laid out to dry on every conceivable surface.

Has anyone seen the commercial with Wayne Brady riding around on a Segway in a red room? I have no idea what this ad is for. I keep thinking it is for Aveda haircare products. But would you really use Wayne Brady for a shampoo commercial?

thanks MIKI, i'll have to go try the minty goodness that is the Shamrock Shake! and ITA about "pissy petey" from the LG commercial. i know the mom is happy that he can wash, but if my mom saw me put a pee soaked item in the washer, i would be pissing teeth for a week!
Sikamikanico
Saw for the first time a horrible, horrible Pepto-Bismol ad with office workers dancing and singing about their various intestinal disorders. The woman with diarrhea was absolutely giddy about it.

The thing that pissed me off most about this commercial was that it came on while I was eating dinner. Hearing someone shout "Diarrhea!" while you're trying to eat is just disgusting.

For those of you weeping bitter, bitter tears over Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights, just do what I do. Close your eyes and pretend that the movie is not some cheap rip-off of a cheesily-good movie from the '80's but instead all about Diego Luna. Diego bathing, Diego swimming, Diego talking, Diego engaging in threesomes with his equally hot male friend and their older, gorgeous female companion......mmm, that's the stuff. Ah, denial has never been so sexy.

I think the actress in the pedicure chair in the citibank identity theft commerical is great. It's just the way she absolutely sells it. "This is going to be the best prom ever!"

I too have never had a Shamrock Shake, but I'm definetly going to get one as soon as they start selling them here.

You were close on the name, but not quite. It was for Avaya a corporate telecommunications/IT outfit.

I remember when I was a kid, every March when "Uncle O'Grimace" or whoever showed up on TV, my mom and I would make a pilgrimage to McDonalds for Shamrock Shakes. I was heartbroken when they stopped having them. I knew a surprising number of people who thought they were gross though.

eta: I just saw that LG commercial for the first time this morning and had the same thoughts as all of you re: drying a pee-soaked comforter without washing it first. Yuck. I also love how the mom just lets the kid keep wearing wet stinky pajamas instead of bringing him a clean pair.

i am getting really annoyed with the Febreeze sniffing ads. the newest one i saw had a wife walking in and out of the bedroom while the husband was staring at her. he just had this creepy look in his eye that said "i'm gonna bang you so hard, you're gonna walk crooked for a week!" eeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwww!
