I thought Kim came off great on tonight's 'behind the scenes' special, though, as always, there was way too little footage of her! I really empathized with her when she *sniff* cried to her mom over the phone, since I'm insanely close to my mother and would probably have been on the phone with her about three times a day throughout the tour! I do think it's good that they showed how emotional Kim can be, since during AI2 she had somewhat of a cold, haughtier image. Oh, and there was also some fodder for you Clocke lovers out there :)

As I read elsewhere, the special showcased different sides of Kim. That was cool.
Down To Earth Kim-In front of the White House
Wild and Crazy Kim-Licking Rickey's face(hee-was our girl tipsy?)
Serious/slightly annoyed??? Kim-The Clay mic episode
Sensitive Kim-"I want my mommy" scene.heehee
Caring Kim-Hugs for the marathon fan
I thought the special was cute. Though I suppose it's hard to be let down when you're not expecting much.lol

What I found interesting is that Kim came in third and we heard Trenyce sing. Nothing against Trenyce, but what's up with that? Also, Kim's Over the Rainbow (yes, the song I am sick of) got much better audience reaction than Proud Mary on tour.

I can understand why they didn't show Kim singing or anything else really, and I think it has to do with what CAP said. They probably just wanted to prop up the artists that stayed with 19E and BMG. Kim didn't, so IMO, this is her "punishment" so to speak. I was really shocked at how little time she got, and the way in which she was portrayed.

Bleh. That whole special sucked like a black hole. However, there were somethings I enjoyed.
--Kim crying and showing us her tears. (Love her emotions)
--Kim acting like a party ho!! (<3 Oh Kim, the diversity in your beautiful personality)
--Kim in her cute little nightie
--Anytime Kim waved to the audience
--When Kim followed Clay around to hear his bitching
--When Kim read the critics' reviews and nothing bad was stated about her
--Kim's awesome fan who sprinted to see her
--Ruben's "Wife" and a Clay fanatic bitterly exchanging words
I think that's all the parts I enjoyed. Oh, the American Idol III clips were all lame though. Nobody even compared to Miss Locke.

Maybe I just spent too much time in my youth (since I'm 23 now, I guess that's 17-20) partying, but that seemed pretty...normal and tame, as far as party behavior goes. Plus, it was Rickey. If it was a stranger's face, maybe then it'd be a good time to raise an eyebrow or two.

Wasn't Kim released from 19E along with everyone else minus Ruben and Clay? Furthermore, she was never offered a contract from BMG. How can you be punished for not staying with entities that did not want you in the first place?

Unless, of course, they have heard Kim's single and are just now realizing just how foolish they were for not signing her when they had the chance. Perhaps they see her as serious competition for Clay and Ruben and do not wish to give her any more promotion than necessary.
If so, I doubt we will be seeing any Kim appearances on AI3.

I enjoyed the special, though I wanted to hear Kim sing. I enjoyed Ruben and Clay and Trenyce singing, but what's up with no Kim? Carmen and Charles? I might be camped out on the grassy knoll thinking because she isn't a 19 E client/artist, that her singing was excluded. Dried And Talentless Spice was showcased on World Idol. She's a 19 E. recording artist. What an alternate universe 19 E is. Watching that special, or the Christmas one, most casual fans of the show would never know Kim signed a record deal with Curb, has a single dropping next Monday, and an album in a couple of months. They are proably thinking she went home and sat on her mama's lap. That small scene and the licking and the ear to Clay's rant and hugging the marathon fan, did show many sides of the personality Simon claimed Kim didn't have. Maybe when season three starts they will bring this up in the update on the Idols segments. Anyway, today I saw a small Kim reference in an article about a local jazz in Seattle paper today.
Gazarek has now signed a management contract with Stiletto Entertainment, which represents Schuur, Allyson, Barry Manilow and Kimberly Locke,

Well, I've seen the special. It was good to see all the idols espeically my favorite, Kimberley Locke. But speaking from a highly devoted K-Lo fan, FOX can kiss my big fat ugly scaley foot for all I care. They've rear-ended her in the Xmas special and they rear-ended her on the special. All they showed of her was her crying to her mom on the phone (I feel sorry for her. I'd call MY mom if I was on the road that long). But, hey. You know what? I'm not worried. Not worried at all. Kimmie's single's gonna drop in a couple of weeks and we'll see more of her very soon. I'll betcha FOX will have a change of heart, those cold, hearted snakes. As for Simon Cowell, who rated her personality a 4 1/2, he can kiss my foot too.

Now, that's just not true. They showed her on the motorcycle, licking Rickey's face, listening to Clay rant, the fake kiss, "waking up", talking about the color of the White House, etc. Sure, there could've been more Kim, but crying on the phone was certainly not the only Kim they showed.
And for the record, I can't buy that it's a conspiracy against her because she signed with Curb/Stiletto. If they hadn't included her in the Christmas Special/CD, maybe, but since they did, I really can't. If they were that worried about keeping down an artist that signed with some other label/management group (because they did NOT offer to sign her themselves...), then they wouldn't have featured her at all on the X-mas Special. And I'd have been pissed that they didn't tell us she'd signed with Curb and had an album dropping soon if they'd given updates on any of the others. Since they didn't, though, I'll cut them slack for that. I won't, however, cut them slack for teasing us with the promise of showing it.

I like that theory,
CanadianGal. We all know how TPTB love a stacked deck - in their favor, of course. From the reviews of our ubiquitous TWoP spies at the concerts, Kim was getting a great deal of attention on the tour as well, but you'd never know that from this "special".
CryingKim. Just more fodder to solidify my crushy fandom. It was definitely good to see so many more aspects to her personality, since she's been touted by "some other contestants" as being standoffish and conceited. Saw no hint of that last night. How do you release something that is incomplete? Was she not still in the studio late in December?
The longest process is for an album to be recorded. Actually, that is not always true - Clay's album was recorded a lot faster than it was mixed and mastered. But, even after Kim is done all the work in the studio, then the engineer will mix the album. This is not a lengthy process - I would say about 4 weeks on average, maybe slightly longer if the album is very difficult to mix (ie. something like Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon). After that, in about 99.999% of cases, the engineer is NOT present during the mastering process, and the recording artist (ie. Kim) is not present either. This is in order to bring in somebody with impartial, fresh ears. The mastering process is shorter than mixing, no more than a few weeks.
The timeline makes sense if she was recording until the Christmas holidays. The mixing could take all of January, with the mastering done by late February. The cover art has been shot, so it's merely a matter of pressing and shipping. Therefore, mid-March-late April.
This album could not have been finished any faster. It's as if people think it's a matter of singing a song, they tape it and it's done. Since Kim did not have a contract until late in the summer, she did not go in the studio before or during the tour like Clay and Ruben had. With other commitments (going to Africa, singing on a couple of post-AI shows, award ceremonies), booking the studio, song selection, it is easy to see how the recording was not done quickly.
You can't cut time in mixing, mastering or pressing. The only thing that could have been done is to have recorded her album faster but two things: 1. would you want something that was put together hastily? and 2. would you want the first 12 songs that were recorded put on the album regardless of quality? I'm sure there are junk songs that were thrown out.
I honestly don't see how this album could have come out that much sooner than it did. Ruben and Clay got their contracts in early May. Regardless of when she signed hers, she essentially didn't get reap any benefits from it (ie. studio time) until well after the tour ended. Therefore, she was 4 months in the hole right off the bat.

Frankly, it was a pretty good special, but TPTB continues its "good TV" shtick, treating the performers as Reality TV Show people, and not so much as singers. They just had to be cruel to Kim by showing her crying on camera to her mom.

Hmmm...I definitely see both sides here. On one hand, it's very invasive to show someone during such an emotional moment. On the other hand, I think it can really improve the public's perception of her if she's shown as sensitive and vulnerable, since she was perceived as cold during the show. And, (and this is about as fanwanky as you can get!) for some reason I don't see her as someone who would be too upset by TPTB deciding to show that scene. She strikes me more as someone who would make a joke about learning to cry *off* camera from now on! I have no idea where I get this impression from---maybe just that she seems very confident, able to laugh at herself, and not overly concerned with how she's being depicted.

I wonder about that, too, deadpill, but mileage varies. It seems like it's usually a first impression thing in her case - which for a lot was the Simon Sucks incident. One of the people I know who watched never warmed up to her purely because of that. It was funny, though, because week after week he'd concede she was the best performing, but whenever he saw her, all he could think of was that one little exchange.

I mean. I've seen that exchange between her and Simon on the internet when she told him, "I thought you were sexy, you SUCK!" That action made me love her even more. If I were to rate her personality from 1 to 10 I would give it a +20 and a well deserved +20. As for Simon Cowell, as I've said before he can kiss my foot. I think it's a combination of that and her professional approach to the competition. She is obviously very close with Clay and probably Ruben to an extent, but maybe people felt she was distant and aloof? I know that a lot of people criticized Tamyra for treating AI as a competition only and not a way to make friends.

Totally think that's right. Well, I thought she gave a better performance anyways (now, he might've beat her regardless if he'd sang his wildcard round 'Don't Let The Sun Go Down...' that night), but she did something to make herself really stand out in the minds of voters. That's still why a lot of people never warmed up to her, though.
And

See, this reminds me of something. In a couple of interviews with Trenyce, even after the tour, she went on and on about how Kim made no effort to socialize with any of the girls on the show. Yet Kim is good friends with Carmen (*shudder*) and from what I saw on the tour special, she seemed to be right there with the group every time they showed more than one of them together. She was there at breakfast (?) when they were reading reviews, on the tour of DC, at the club in Connecticut, and backstage with Julia and Kim C. in Chicago. That struck me as odd that Trenyce brought up the notion that Kim never hung around anyone else on more than one occasion, yet everything on that special said otherwise.

Regarding her dis of Simon, I think it initially did help her to stand out in the eyes of the voters in the semis. If people were on the fence about which performance was better (between her OTR and his "Don't Let..."), that might've given her and edge. However, I think the more the dis was talked about and had sunk into the minds of the viewers, some began to view it as disrespectful. That, along with that song about warm weather, probably hurt her in the weeks to come. It took a while for her to warm the audience back up to her.
As for her being aloof or whatever, I think the footage from this tour special went a long way to dispel that MYTH. Not that it matters to me at all. She's my favorite artist - probably one of my biggest favorites EVAH - and will be until she drives over a box of newborn kittens. And even then, I want hard evidence.
